They have good cake and good pastry. However, they need to improve their customer service.

I've been craving cake for a while so today I finally stopped in here to get myself a slice of coffee cake. Very good price for the size of the slice ($2.85) and it had nice layers (#aesthetic) but the ratio of cream to sponge was WAY too high. I would've preferred it with much, much more sponge and much less cream. I've also been here several times for their baos (nothing very special but always good) and once for a birthday cake (looked great, was tasty). read more

If you read my two previous reviews you'll already know that I practically live off of this bakery, but it turns out that all of my really favorite items are located inside the refrigerated box near the cashier station. Here is my latest update: Coffee Cake Slice (http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/xZy6wcfJLd2nT6RHq9Dm_w/l) - The cream is typical of that from many Chinese bakeries in that it is barely sweet and almost slightly salty. The multiple layers of cake had a subtle flavor of sweetened coffee. The cake is quite dry. Chocolate Cake Slice (http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/xsVDFSueB8Vs7X3fg_0wWg/l) - One can tell by its color that it is not very chocolatey. The cake is very similar to that of the coffee cake slice but with a faint chocolate flavor instead. The layer of whipped cream and powdered cocoa on top definitely help the overall taste of the cake. Tiramisu Cake Slice (http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/n_qFtt4VrFVj78Sg20BACg/l) - One layer of each of the coffee and chocolate cakes are used with lots of whipped cream. The whipped cream is nicely flavored and definitely helps in moistening both layers of cake. The only thing that I wished for was a dash of liqueur but that's easy, I can do that at home. It's a rolled cake (like a jelly roll) with a moist, soft sponge cake, whipped cream and fresh strawberries. Delicious! Mixed Fruit Cake Slice (http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/ZvB05gXLLxULcEricfuTJg/l) - I imagine their whole cakes are similar to this. This is my favorite cake slice. The soft sponge cake is used in this one too also with whipped cream, canned peach segments, fresh kiwi and fresh strawberries. It is topped with more fresh fruit. Yummy! Fresh Fruit Mini Tart (http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/TjBDqmibcr04dewiVTsy1Q/l) - They have these in full size tarts also. It's a simple pie crust with a big dollop of custard cream in the center. Canned peach slices are arranged on top along with fresh strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, a blackberry and a cantaloupe ball. All of the fruit is held together by a thin film of sweetened clear gelatin. Another favorite! Mango Chocolate Mousse (http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/C2bstQqEeUIxunsF6VldZQ/l) - It looks great but didn't taste very good. Oddly enough they've stuck a chocolate cake slice in the middle of the whipped up mousse. The mousse had zero mango flavor though and just tasted like sweetened, rich cream. The chewy gelatin on top had no mango flavor either. Nice to look at though! Orange Berry Mousse (http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/OYRfWMN0mD0K7rLWwf3ujQ/l) - I liked this one much more. The flavors on the two mousses are very distinct - one orange, one strawberry. There's a thin layer of chewy strawberry gelatin on top. Mixed Fruit Cup (http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/BxbH63JSYulMwPtUXGMnDg/l) - It's another one of my favorites. The bottom of the dessert is Asian rainbow jelly. An assortment of mixed fruits in soft gelatin is layered on top of the jelly. Then comes the whipped cream, a layer of the soft sponge cake and another layer of whipped cream. Surprisingly light and very tasty! Mixed Fruit and Jellies Boat (http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/ySNIcCF94_9QRONX96lWpg/l) - They sell out of these often and for good reason. Beautiful to look at and refreshing to eat. I don't understand why they don't use the mousse in this dessert for the mango chocolate mousse. The bottom layer of the boat is mango mousse mixed with a little gelatin. The mango flavor is excellent. Strawberry gelatin and a layer of rainbow jelly complete the boat layers. Up top is a dollop of whipped cream, fresh fruits and both dark and white chocolate ornaments. I keep going back to look for this only to be told that I have to wait because they're all gone. Round 2 of my Chinese pastry binge. The pastries here look so pretty that I just want to keep putting more on my tray. And there's so much variety! * Strawberry yogurt cup ($2.50): This dainty little dessert starts at the top with a thin layer of strawberry gelatin, then a light, airy layer of strawberry mousse (faint in flavor) underneath, a somewhat bland, slightly sweet layer of dense chiffon cake, whipped cream with strawberries and another layer of cake on the bottom. The fruit flavors could have been stronger. Also, I have no idea where the yogurt was. * White chocolate cakes: Sold in a pack of two, these small oval shaped cakes were interesting but also somewhat bland. A thin layer of white chocolate covering a dense, slightly sweet chiffon cake. * Ham & cheese bun (85 cents): Actually it seemed more like a ham and green onion roll. The dough was chewier than usual. The ham bits were finely chopped. Flavorful but too salty. * Nut cake ($2.75): It's like a giant sponge cupcake topped with almonds, slightly eggy taste, not too sweet, denser than usual, pretty good Sunday afternoon was a good time to visit as they kept bringing out trays of fresh pastries. I love this place! I haven't been here in a while, but I love coming here whenever I'm in the area. All the breads are so fresh and SOFT!

As I grow older, my tastebuds have also started to become more...shall we say... corrupt. I started appreciating the finer things in life that are not necessarily good for you. Cured meats, smoked animal proteins, fattier cuts of cha siu/bbq pork, marinated innards (except liver and particular uber nasty bits), very well executed carb based dishes from certain rice plates to old world style Italian pasta to lo mein drizzled with shrimp or fish roe (karasumi, bottarga, wuyuzi/Taiwanese cured mullet roe...all the same thing). Except I am not sipping on fermented sour grapes while enjoying these rotten yummy pleasures, nor do I consume soju like a poor sod from a K-drama show. But an occasional bottle of Tsing Tao can hit the spot. And it feels like I'm up to no good. I'm just missing other vices like gambling and smoking, which I do not partake. In an age where organic foods and eating healthy is important, people freak out at the mention of GMO beans (and thus shy away even from Soon Dubious Korean tofu stews). Organic has been the vogue word at farmers markets and causing a ruckus even in Hong Kong (where if you want to eat healthy you pay 3 times the cost of inorganic from China). Some say life is short, so why not eat like a pig and enjoy (and maybe pay for it later)....thus the million dollar question: what good is the quality of life if you cannot enjoy foie gras, shark fin (just kidding I'm not enamored with the stuff), abalone, toro, animal protein with insane amounts of fat, and shellfish head/innards/brain juice, or sea urchin gonads, or fatty pork with liver basked in honey sauce, or food deep fried with all sorts of old fashioned lard, without worrying about blood pressure, chloestrol HDL/LDL etc, since we are all going to croak eventually? So with that said, one of the finer (unhealthy) things in Hong Kong local food...is a pineapple bun (bor lor bao)...not made with pineapple, but named as such. Baked bun with some sweet dough layers on top. And if it doesn't get any better than that, cut a slit either cross section from the top or on the side like a bagel, and insert a mondo sized slab of salted butter. Pair it with a solid hot HK milk tea (or coffee) and it's one of the best (and worst) things ever for your body. It's ok to skip the butter... but you're missing out. Even better if you can sit down to enjoy fresh piping hot out of the oven, and freshly brewed drink. In SF Bay Area there are a dearth of options for being able to savor this combo. And when that is out of reach, you just take what you can get at a HK café or a local bakery. If geographic location and lack of competition being a factor, it is easy to understand why this bakery gets good reviews. Quick, fast, cheap, and the goods hit the spot and does what it needs to. The baked goods are slightly better packaged, more visually appealing, unlike some of the unrefined fugly you see in parts of Chinatown. It is a favorite for the locals, some of which are Cantonese speakers, but the majority appear to be Toishanese from Southern China (after all this is their territory!). Looking at the words on the wall, it's shorthand Chinese...so the only Hong Kong "style" is the approach, but it ends there. The baked goods are a bit too sweet for my liking. Egg tart (dan taat) - cookie crust rendition. Unfortunately even at 8 am, this must be either yesterday's batch...it was as cold as the morning air. Not terribly exciting, but definitely better than something like Hong Kong Bakery in downtown Mountain View, or Sheng Kee Macau style Portugese egg tart (po taat) - these are at the bottom shelf from the regular egg tarts. Don't bother...these are the worst po taat I've ever had. What is the opposite of "fancy"? Head to Sogo Bakery in Burlingame, and if you are lucky to encounter ones fresh out of the oven, they are indeed the Lady Gaga of Egg Tarts. Pork Sung Bun - Looked like a pretty elegant non layered croissant. The inside was sweet...like a coconut paste, and they mixed in the "pork floss" (yok sung or rou song in Mandarin). This was more palatable than the egg tarts, but still not quite my bag. Maybe the ham and pork sung hairy bun would be better...but this unfortunately did not blow me away like it did to my other Yelp friends. Hot milk tea - Eeek....again too sweet. But being able to get a hot coffee or hot milk tea here in the AM is already not bad (not like you can find it elsewhere nearby I think). At least it did not give me the runs like some of the other bakeries in the Peninsula that do this drink. It's not HK café like goodness (like Tak Kee Lee). Maybe a Yin Yang remix would be better (half coffee half hot milk tea)? Don't know. read more

Finding a cake for your wedding can be so difficult when your on a budget! For about 250 guests, wedding cakes can cost over $1000, which i think is just way too expensive!! Believe me, my husband and I sampled so many cakes (and he doesn't even really like cake!). But whenever bakeries quoted us, it cost almost $1000 bucks, which is just ridiculous for cake! Although my husband doesn't really like cake, he said he does like one type of cake -- mixed fruit cake with whipped cream from Chinese bakeries. He mentioned Fancy Wheat to me, and that he tried stuff from there before. So I checked them out on Yelp and they got great reviews--mostly about their buns and desserts, but they actually do wedding cakes too! When we went to the bakery, there was a huge language barrier since hardly any of the workers speak any English. But I spoke with Cindy, who does speak some English, and she showed us their wedding cake pictures. They don't give out samples of their cakes--you just buy the small cakes they have already made and tell them which one you want for your cake. We ended up ordering a 3 tier cake plus a sheet cake for 250 guests and for HALF the price we would have originally paid if we went with those other fancy bakeries!! Our bottom layer was tiramisu, middle layer was mixed fruit, and the top layer was strawberry mango mousse. All were delicious, especially the tiramisu!!! Our sheet cake was half tiramisu and mixed fruit. We paid the deposit in cash, and all we had to do was bring in the ribbon with the remaining deposit before the wedding. On my next visit, I brought the ribbon and remaining deposit, and met with the baker, Wesley, who was the guy who would be making our cake. He spoke perfect English, so i felt more comfortable knowing that there would be no confusion on how the cake should be made. He was very nice and gave me his email to contact him for any questions. Wedding day: The cake arrived on time and it was exactly how I wanted--beautiful, simple, and delicious. All of our guests loved it!! Some said it was the best tiramisu they've ever had! We even had some cake leftover, so we brought it to our family party the next day. Fancy Wheat Field Bakery is the best Chinese bakery around! Their cakes are delicious and affordable. Their pork buns are also to die for and super cheap (i ordered some each time i went there)!! I'll definitely go back for more! read more

OMG, this place is going down FAST in ratings! Forget that this is a neighborhood bakery and that they have delicious baked goodies to offer. This bakery is starting to skimp on its ingredients and the pastries are no longer fresh. I tried the honey bun and other sponge cakes and they were terrible. Let's just say they stopped putting in the full amounts of oil/butter/shortening that is required in the recipe. Instead of soft and moist cakes, these were dry and difficult to swallow. I almost choked my way through eating one of these. Please, please do not give any of the sponge cakes to children. This is a choke hazard. If you liked the shredded pork roll, think again. Don't even try to get these. They tend to run out fast and the kitchen fails to re-stock them in time. Also, I found out that the fresh buns gets mixed with the old ones so you might end up with one that is dried out and hard. Not appetizing nor sanitary. Also, beware when there are people rummaging through the trays of pastries. I caught one woman dropping one of the buns and putting it back onto the tray thinking no one will look. Hello!!! I saw you do it! Trays and tongs are not cleaned properly when they are placed out for customers. Wiping the trays and tongs with a dirty rag is not sanitary nor is it appetizing. I am very sad and disappointed in this bakery. In the beginning it seems they were trying to go beyond the typical stereotype of a Chinese bakery and create a wonderful business. Now I can see it is all about the money and cutting corners to save a little. Employees look over worked and irritated with customers. No friendly or helpful employee can be found here. Pastries and cakes are not fresh and made poorly. Not enough oil in the cakes and the taste is not like before, lack of sugar? Also, the establishment as a whole is not clean any more. You find buns and pastries on the floor, crumbs everywhere, and pastries are not kept in the proper temperature. When you buy a cake you expect the cake to be kept in a cold enough fridge and not melt on the way home. read more

Complete disappointment. Everything LOOKS really good, but that's about the only good thing about this place. My family bought a bunch of different items, so I was able to sample a lot of them. Fruit tart had a hard, burnt-tasting shell and was filled with whipped cream (rather than custard that I'm used to). They have three different types of cheesecake -- all of them were dry and virtually tasteless. The pineapple buns were completely stale. What a waste of calories. =( The service was just as bad. They were completely stingy about giving boxes and insisted on throwing most items into a bag. I guess we could pay the extra 50 cents for a box, but they have a sign up that says you get a box with a minimum of 10 items purchased -- we easily bought 40+ items (large family). When my family protested the fact that they bagged things instead of boxing them, the workers said we need to take it up with the owner, who was right there in the store stocking, but completely ignored us. Seriously, if your customers buy a bunch of stuff and want a few boxes, is it really that big of a deal? CASH ONLY. read more

I luv this little bakery. Discovered it when my colleague treated us for some at work Delish!!! Now I come here once a week, to get 8 buns for my boys. Why 8? Because it fits nicely into one of their beautiful distinctive whimsical pink n green checkered boxes. I always buy the pork sung rolls, about $1.25. Delish, slightly sweet mayonnaise on a fluffy sweet bread, rolled up with pork sung covering each end. I also get the sausage buns with tomato, great for breakfast or snack, about $1.25. The cocktail buns gas a nice glaze about .55 cents. The corn and gam buns are moist and Delish. I usually have it for breakfast when I'm in a hurry for work. Usually a box of 8 costs less than $10. That's also includes 50 cent meter parking which buys me 15 minutes park on San Bruno. Sometimes I get lucky and find parking in the sides streets which are free. I swear I'm here every week, buying Pineapple buns. YUM! Especially when you get them fresh and piping hot right out the oven, the only thing is that quirky crumbly top that tastes NOTHING like Pineapple. There's sweetness to it, but no inkling of pineapple flavor. And how can you hate on a dozen for $6, of course you're welcome to only buy one at 50cents, which still isn't bad. My son loves to have his school sandwiches on them the next day! I've also had the pork sung roll, which is good until you get that surprise mayonnaise action in the middle. Lol. I think it could be PERFECTLY fine without it. The pork buns are actually very good too, the best ones on San Bruno Ave IMHO and a decent value at 90cents without having to drive into Chinatown. There's a good ratio of bun:meat! My girls love the coconut "custard" bun and mom says the red bean bun is decent too. Tried a slice of the fresh mango cake and the nice thing is for being an individual slice it hasn't lost its moisture. Mangoes aren't in season yet tho so they were a bit tart and didn't quite match the cake. Nice addition to a rather eclectic neighborhood. San Bruno Ave has so many random stores and restaurants on it, Fancy Wheat Field is definitely a step in the right direction, if only some of the other stores and store fronts can be as inviting. read more

This local San Francisco Chinese bakery chain is amazing! Forget Sheng Kee and 85 degrees; those Taiwanese chain stores got nothing but highly processed pastries that all taste the same. I got a ham and egg bun, $1.75, and a pineapple bun $0.50 (we Cantonese call it a pineapple bun because it looks like one, not because it has pineapples in it; the more you know.) The ham and egg bun had a real over-hard egg in it! None of that powdered crap like they serve at sheng kee. The pineapple bun was one of the best I've ever had. Bring a bib; the crumbs will fall everywhere. read more

This bakery is in my neighborhood and this is the very first time I'm trying it out. I got a mango crepe cake for my moms birthday and it was delicious! I will say there is a big language barrier. I keep reading reviews that the two women that work upfront are rude but I honestly believe it's the language barrier. I went in and asked for a mango crepe cake and they said "no" right away, they probably meant they don't have any on hand. I was persistent and pointed to the wall and told them "Mango crepe cake like that one, with mango. For tomorrow" then she simply replied with, "for tomorrow, ok" She proceeded on taking my order although it was obvious that they hardly understood English. If they wouldn't have had the picture on the wall I would have probably tried showing them a picture on my phone. I'm not sure how much crepe cakes cost but this one was around 60 bucks. They should think about hiring someone that understands English, their cakes are pretty good and it would be a shame to lose clients based on the language barrier since they are in the portola district. read more

One day I came home to a table of fancy cute looking baos! To my surprise, my grandma bought them from Fancy Wheat Field. =) I'm so happy they opened this bakery on San Bruno Ave! The pork sung and ham bao is delicious! My brother goes here JUST for the pork sung & ham bao. I haven't tried many of the other baos yet... however, I LOVEEE THEIR CAKES! I bought a FRESH MANGO CAKE (see pictures) from here for my brother's birthday. I got really lucky since the lady brought it out fresh from the back! It was the best mango cake I've ever had. FRESH fruits & mango slices on top and with FRESH MANGO inside. If you ever see a mango cake, I recommend that you buy it! (but I'm sure its only seasonal) I also got the green tea mousse cake from here. I usually don't prefer mousse cakes, but the green tea caught my attention. It was also really good! My new favorite mousse cake! =) Overall, their cakes haven't failed me. They're not too sweet and DELICIOUS!... and only for $22-$25. I'll definitely be coming here for more birthday cakes and BAOS! Truly a hidden gem in San Francisco's Portola district. Excellent cakes and pastries at an affordable price! I absolutely love this place! I have tried their tiramisu mousse cake, mocha mousse cake, and green tea mousse cake. All are as delicious as they are aesthetic; far better than Sheng Kee. The tiramisu and mocha cakes are fairly as expected, but the green tea mousse cake was a very pleasant surprise! Moreover, the cakes were only $23 each, which is very reasonable considering the quality. WILL DEFINITELY GO BACK! read more

Ok, so I've been back multiple times since the first post. My mom and sister have birthdays about a week apart, so we bought cakes for both of them. Chocolate Cake - $18. HELLA GOOD. The cake was light and not overly sweet. The frosting wasn't heavy and I actually ate it (i NEVER eat frosting...). It was topped with fruit and had chocolate pieces on the side. Tiramisu - $22. Also REALLY good. It had less fruit than the Chocolate cake, but it was really yummy. Topped with chocolate flowers and had strawberries on it. We bought over $20 for the other cake and it came with a choice of a Fancy Wheat bakery hat or an apron. AWESOME. Incentives keep me coming! read more

Omg I always have to drop by here as soon I drive into San Francisco! I don't come often so I make sure to get some bread here!!! They are widely known for their pork sung roll! That would be one of my recommendation. The parking is a problem, but that's not why I didn't give them five stars! The four stars are for their breads and other foods offered here because they are made daily and fresh and you can definitely tell! The problem is the workers that work here! Some are just rude and and have staring problems. Just get in grab the breads to your liking then bounce lol I just feel like I'm being judged every time I go in here. read more

I just called to try to place a custom cake order, but the woman that answered the phone spoke limited English and was unhelpful. She told me that I would have to come into the store to talk to a "different lady". When I explained to her that coming into the store was not an option today, and asked her if I could have a contact number or email, she said No. But here's the kicker- I asked her if that lady and/or manager was there in the store right now, she replied YES but that I would still need to come into the store to speak with her because she's "busy". Makes ZERO sense. What's the point of having a phone number if you can't help or provide any customer service? I was lured into ordering a cake here from all the fancy custom cakes featured on their yelp page. But beware, they won't help you unless you come into the store in person, supposedly. And honestly, who wants to deal with this kind of BS when trying to place an expensive order? Time is valuable. The extra star is for the pleasant experiences I've had at the other locations, So now I'm not sure if this chain is franchised or not. read more

I come here once in a while for some baked goods. Most of the buns on display are decent, but the section I like the best if the cold dessert section. My favorite happens to be the cheesecake. It's nice and light with a slight cheese taste. Some of the more warm buns are dry and not as flavorful as I'd like in a savory bun. The one in question is the ham and egg bun. The both the ham and egg was really dry and a tab bit salty. Perhaps they had a bad batch? I'm curious to find out where most of their product comes from because time and time again, I see a big truck parking nearby and workers coming in and out of that truck to off haul some supplies and not just raw baking products, but caskets of already baked goods. Interesting... They seem to have an entire bakery behind the cash register, but most of the display items aren't nice and piping hot. I might drop by again and ask them why this is. read more

Okay, so first things first, I really like the baked goodies I got here. HOWEVER, it is a tiny little place with a not-so-thoughtful flow/floorplan, so the line gets backed up, interrupted, and muddled CONSTANTLY. Also it is cash only. Also, bread is baked fresh constantly so it's super soft and yummy! Also, its a popular bakery so be patient and know that you'll probably get bumped. Definitely better than Sheng Kee. Also, because of said popularity, shelves will constantly be depleted so you may have to wait for them to bring out anohter batch if your fav thing is missing. Delicious WEDDING CAKE! We went cake tasting at a number of places for our wedding cake. Although this place doesn't advertise that they do wedding cakes, they absolutely do! And why not? Their usual stuff is fabulous and delicious! We got a 3 layer cake, 3 different flavors--green tea, tiramisu, and chestnut. Everyone loved the cake! It was soft, moist, and not too sweet. We knew we wanted a mousse cake but most places we inquired with said they could not make a layered mousse cake, not even the fancy and expensive cake places. Fancy Wheat Field has it figured out! We got a beautiful and delicous 3 layer cake for a much better price than most cake places. They also delivered our cake across the bridge for a bit of a fee. read more

Really good treats. I aimed towards the cakes and mousse. They had chocolate which is soooo good, and tiramisu, and green tea. All of which have cute presentation and the taste to compliment it all. This bakery does specialize mainly on Asian treats like taro tart, egg tarts, red bean bread, etc. So if that's what you're aiming for then definitely try this. Went here before a long time ago for afternoon snacks, the orientation of the store is just like Sheng Ky, you grab a tray and place what you want. Your typical asian Bakery, simple and to the point. They have your typical array of hot dog buns, corn and cheese, shredded pork, etc. Came back today to pick up their green tea mousse cake that all the yelpers wrote about, and they were right. DELISH! I called to order this morning and the lady on the phone was kind even though she had a hard time understanding me. I came to pick it up today and it was ready to go. It was very tea-y, fresh, and light without being overly sweet. My mom loved her birthday cake and at 25$ a pop this 8 inch cake was a steal. Will definitely come back again soon to try their other cakes. They have a huge display of cakes! If you're looking for a sweet treat without overloading on the sugar, this is the place to be! It was Christmas and normally we have a table full of desserts, but this year... nada! How does one end a meal without dessert?!?! We made a trip over here to grab a cake and we picked the Tiramisu. It was ~$20 for a 8" cake, which I think is pretty normal for an Asian Bakery cake. It was fully decorated on top with lots of plastic decorations (some decorations looked like it was from Thanksgiving), but we were here for the cake, so we didn't care that much. They wrapped it in a pretty cool box and we told it home and immediately started serving. Considering the Tiramisu was Asian made, it was really good! Had the chocolate, cream, and coffee flavor and it wasn't too sweet which all the older members of the family always appreciate. I enjoyed it and had too slices (though if you put any cake in front of me, don't expect too much leftovers hahaha). Overall, this cake was good so it's definitely on our list of Asian Bakeries for cake buying. I'll be back to try the other pastries as well. read more

my go-to local bakery. fruit cake is what I get for every birthday. the cake is just so soft and fluffy and the cream is not too sweet like european/american cakes. buns are also tasty... very fluffy but they need to be eaten fresh the day it's bought. faves include pineapple bun, ham&egg bun, hotdog bun, pork sung roll read more

I am a regular customer here and I never had any complaints until today. I was overcharged for an extra bun that I didn't order. When I went back to kindly bring it to the attention of the cashier, she rudely dismissed the problem. After a good few minutes, she wanted me to get a another bun instead of a refund. I had to explain to her that I don't want another bun. I got a refund and received NO apology. Terrible establishment! I will NEVER go back here again!!! This review should have come a lot sooner, but I've kept putting it off, and off, and off...until now. This is only one of 2 bakeries worth going to on San Bruno Avenue (the other being Red House Bakery -- a review for that coming soon). I've been here many, many times and have tried a variety of baos -- the hot dog bao, yok soong bao (the one with the shredded pork thing, ham, and green onion), the bao with coconut, the pineapple bun, the bao with ham, cheese, and green onion, etc. etc. (As you can tell, my Cantonese stinks, so bear with me.) Good quality for a good price. (I am just in love with their baos, in case you didn't notice!) The place is self-serve (another plus!), which kind of reminds me of Sheng Kee on Irving in the Sunset (only half self-serve). I love how you can pick the best looking baos for yourself and leave the burnt ones for the unsuspecting construction guys who come in for a quick bite and run back outside afterwards to take a couple of more drags on their cigs. haha. My mom's also bought a couple of cakes here too -- not too sweet, which is exactly what friends say when they take a bite. (Too much fruit though, in my opinion. I'm not really a fruit girl.) Pork sung bun with the ham and green onions and cream/mayo mix is on point. Though the buns here are on the pricier side, they are good. The place looks clean and there's a large variety of baked goods. After trying it for the first time, I would make my way there every weekend or make my sweet uncle go there for me just so I can load up on those buns. Tried the tiramisu cake, my family loved it, but i thought it was okay. Waiting for someone's birthday to give me an excuse to try the mango cake. read more

So I am ordering a birthday cake for my aunt... And my aunt was adamant she did not want strawberries on her cake. That's fine its her bday....my mom and I went to fancy wheat field and ordered a mocha 8 in cake... My mom told the lady can she not put strawberries on top? Can someone tell me why it cost an additional 5 dollars to have NO strawberries?
