A great place to go if you'd like to disappear - or at least be forgotten by your waiter. In that sense, the service is very French, certainly Parisian, though without the compensating burdens of culture or culinary excellence. There are French words on the menu, but you're no more likely to hear them spoken here than you are to see a ghost at Disneyland's Haunted Mansion. The food feels like an uninspired facsimile of what Americans who've never been to France imagine a French café serves: a collection of clichés presented with enough confidence to satisfy people pleased by the idea of Frenchness more than the thing itself. In fact, "cliché" may be the most authentically French word associated with this place. Figaro is to French restaurants what Emily is to Paris - cute, perhaps, but mostly embarrassing. read more

The ambiance is lovely and people watching superb, feels like you're in Europe for sure. Really annoyed at when they brought the bill, the tip was already included (for 2 people) and the server didn't have the decency to tell us so we did another tip on top of that. The service definitely didn't warrant a 40% tip- forgot our 2nd cup coffee, we had to ask for silverware and had to get our own salt/pepper. But food good, so cheers to the chef and the barista. We'll be back but will make sure there's no double tip. read more

As a French Parisian, this used to be my go-to spot for éclairs au chocolat. Sadly, they are no longer authentically French. The traditional yellow custard filling, known as crème pâtissière, has been replaced with a generic crème chantilly. It's a real disappointment. What they now serve is a typical American-style éclair, the kind you find at supermarket bakeries like Whole Foods, not the rich, classic French version I grew up with. The mille-feuille has also changed. It no longer has that subtle touch of rum or kirsch that once gave it its depth. I also tried their profiterole, and it was hard, not soft and delicate as it should be. Just not the quality of authentic French pastries. Next time, I'll save my money and go to a real French bakery. I'm not trying to be overly negative, just honest and objective. The quality is not good, and it is absolutely not authentic. With the new management no longer being French-owned (and same for the head baker), I personally no longer consider this a true French pâtisserie. read more

I had had breakfast here many times and thought is was just ok. Tried the dinner menu last night and thought we were onto something good with the French onion soup which was amazing. My partner had the beef stroganoff and I had duck confit. The duck was the driest thing I have ever had and I could barely chew it. The beef stroganoff was almost flavorless and sat on top of crispy fries. I returned the duck and got a mushroom and truffle pasta..again flavorless. The fresh pineapple juice equally flavorless as it mush have been super unripe. They also forgot the tea we'd ordered. It was a busy night but no excuse for the flavorless gunk we got and the price being not worth it. Staff were lovely was the only good thing. Will not be back sadly :( read more

Figaro is a fun spot for a really cool vibe. The place feels like a bistrot right out of Paris, from the outdoor seating, the eclectic tile work and wallpaper to the signage in French. I also loved the lounge area which was very comfortable, chill and quiet. It's a fantastic spot for a date night or if you're just missing the French vibes - but not so much the food. The food was good but it was more like a flare on the classics. And while my friend's steak was perfectly cooked, my duck was a bit overcooked. They have some sweets and coffee, but you come here for the atmosphere. Service is mixed, mostly friendly, but not garanteed. It's a French bistro, and ironically, it reminds me of so many spots in Paris for the reasons I've listed above. Foods not that good, service okay, but socially a great spot to be. Been coming around more recently for Happy Hour and such, for the solid martinis ($8), snacks like the new photos show - lox, shmear, capers on toast points ($13), the Figaro Burger w grilled onions, bacon and mayo ($13) - as well as that key lime tart. I love everything French and their zinc bar just woos, as I like watching the hard working staff and all the cooler-than-thou folks socializing and eating... it really does have the vibe of those neighborhood cafes in France. My girlfriend and I visited Figaro Bistrot for weekend brunch. The restaurant, to be honest, looked kinda old and dingy. We sat outside and it was quite lovely (minus all the flies). Our server was nice and friendly. Food, on the other hand, was very average. + Steak tartare 3/5: I thought the value of this dish was pretty good because there's a lot of raw beef, sliced baguettes, and salad. I had to ask for more baguettes because the three slices just weren't enough. The raw beef got kind of heavy towards the end. I had to force myself to finish it. I also had to ask for more balsamic vinaigrette because I didn't taste any mixed in with the salad. + Large carafe of mimosa 1/5: For $33, the carafe seemed a bit small. It wasn't the best either. The champagne tasted flat and the OJ was ridiculously sweet. It's definitely not fresh squeezed. read more

Very quant venue accompanied by a very powerfully and very extensive packed menu. Inside and outside tables and natural look takes you from Los Angeles to France. The escargot was perfectly done. Garlicky, but not to the point where everything for the rest of the meal (or month) tastes like garlic, and plenty of fresh herbs. The service and the food was so good! I think my server was either filipino or some sort of Asian, but she was excellent. I had two croissants, one plain and one chocolate but they were so huge and I had a café latte. The chocolate croissant was filling, so I was only able to eat one, but it was so flaky, puffy and delicious. I can't wait to go back again, wish I can go every day. read more

Don't waste your time or money. I've never left a review, but the food at this place was so bad I had to make an account just to let the people know. Servers were great nothing wrong with them, but the food was terrible for happy hour. Fries came out really soggy so we asked for new ones extra crispy, they came out still soggy. Then we tried the crab cakes and they were SO FISHY and really disgusting. Since my friend ate one in one bite (they're small) and I tried a half of another, they told us the chef would not let them comp it since we ate "two" of the three. Then the manager said chef wouldn't let them comp it since they "already had to refire the fries" and tried to tell us it would cost them too much in food costs LOL Basically telling us the chef is a cry baby who was mad that they suck at cooking. If comping one order of happy hour crab cakes will put you out of business maybe you should close down. No wonder this place can't even get close to 4 stars. read more

I have walked by this place for years and felt intimidated because there's always a lot of people sitting outside. I finally decided to give it a try. I was seated inside and it's beautiful. The table and seat was a bit low and the left arm was falling apart. The menu is huge. I sat there waiting for a long time before anyone came to help. When she finally did, I ordered the Beet Salad and small order of Mussels and water. Everyone came out at once including the water. The food looked beautiful and big portions. The Beet Salad was exceptional. The mussels were alright. They didn't have much flavor and the broth had a lot of wine and was bitter. I tried to put butter in to make it taste better but that didn't help. I wanted more water but my server would disappear or walk by quickly without checking. I asked two different busboys for water and they said yes but never came back. I also noticed everyone else in the room I was in was asking for water. After a very long wait and many failed attempts to flag and say excuse me to my server, she finally stopped. I was gonna order desert but I was annoyed I sat there so long with no water that I got my check, paid and left. Ambiance wise. Menu wise. Food wise. This place is great. The menu looks extensive, so for our first time we stuck to the happy hour offerings. DAILY OYSTER: 6 on the half shell with classic sides - served with mignonette and fresh lemon and cocktail sauce. Oysters were the sweet kind and refreshing. BURRATA CROUSTINIS: one of the prettiest dishes. These three huge slices of burrata were accented with blushing slices of beet, the slices of cheese were so big they dwarfed the toasts beneath, with a drizzle of balsamic at the base. BEEF CARPACCIO: served with a generous shower of salad and shaved parmesan PROFITEROLES: three big ones, dipped in chocolate and sitting in a luxurious puddle of some extra, oh how fresh they tasted, whipped cream and sliced strawberries and powdered sugar. Food: Coconut shrimp (5/5): exactly what you'd expect, very tasty Beef carpaccio (6/5): SO good, whatever dressing they put on the beef was delicious, and the fresh salad on top was great Garlic truffle fries (3/5): needed salt, nice and crispy, way too much raw garlic on top Salmon toasts: (3/5): kinda burnt toast, salmon was good but overall the dish was nothing crazy ***their decaf coffee is INCREDIBLE, highly recommend ending your meal with it! My expectations were rather high, since she was from France herself. The atmosphere itself is very cozy - from the cute tables outside to the warmly out interior with lots of classic personality. We happened to arrive during an evening happy hour and tried various items from the back to share- carpaccio, escargot, fries to name a few. Everything was excellent and the service was friendly and pleasant! My favorite was the creme brulee. I'm not a big fan of the dessert in general but apparently I haven't had proper style because this was excellent. Overall it was a great experience all around and I would definitely recommend. When it came time for the bill though we were never given a copy of the receipt so definitely make sure if you'd like a copy that you ask before they take the machine away because once the bill was settled it was difficult to get to someone. read more

Overall Figaro's is a 5 Star. However, I give it 1 star or no stars for my dinner last night. The Duck Confit should be the ultimate Duck dish. I was served half of a leg that was dry and tough on a plate full of mashed potatoes, without sauce, and a minuscule plating of veggies. Figaro's has the audacity to charge $35.00 for this fraud. No flavor! It must have been lying around the frig drying out to the bone. A very sad experience, since I really like this place. I get to visit once a year. I am sorry to say it was a bad experience. Ricardo however served a great Negroni, one of the best I have ever been served. I will return, but I will order something different. Very cute place for brunch. It's always backed both outside and in but if you go slightly after lunch hour there's usually some space. It's on a nice pocket of LA that faces a building with cute architecture so it's nice to eat on the patio as if you're on a French street. Service was quick with requests as we kept order more once we discovered the expansive pastry and cake cabinet! Tonnes of options for lunch even escargot. I've been here many many times and I love the mussels but after this last experience it's not worth the hassle. I ordered the duck confit and it was just gross, the skin was boiled and visibly gooey (that's not duck confit) and the meat was anything but tender. I could barely pull the meat off the bone, it was like eating dry jerky. I asked the waiter to return it and he says that if I do he has to pay for my meal, I asked to speak to the manager and he insisted he was the manager. I said sorry it not edible and he said well you are a lot to which I said no I pulled pieces off trying to find meat that wasn't dry but it was just so horrible I asked for the pasta instead. He finally agreed and gave me pasta that had about a cup of oil in it. Chef wasn't happy to know the food was horrible and actually retaliated. See the mountain of oil in picks. Forgot to take pics of the duck but trust me, this is not duck confit. The chef will sabotage your food and the waiter will lie to make you feel bad that their food sucks.
