food was super tasty! we got the beef noodle soup and the pork over rice. the popcorn chicken was good too! seasoning for both was perfect and exactly how it should be. our kids enjoyed it too. nina was super helpful!! also liked the ambience of the place. some chill mando pop songs in the background.
A classic Taiwanese restaurant in a busy plaza, we decided to try this place out. We ordered the Taiwanese beef noodle soup and chili wontons- they were nothing special. Granted, the beef was tender, but the flavor profile was quite flat... I've had better. The chili wontons also tasted more vinegary than the chili oil flavor, not a big fan. Overall the dishes were okay. Service is friendly and the interior is clean and well-decorated with options for bar seating or some tables. Parking is a real hassle especially on the weekends but pro tip: park in the side streets for free. To note, the reason why this place has so many positive reviews is because they offer you a free non-alcoholic drink in exchange for writing a review. I should've read the reviews before coming here lol

Came here after our 1st option didn't workout and I believe it was meant to be. The only downside to this location is the parking can get a little rough but it's so worth it. The vibe of the restaurant is super modern with mostly bar seating. The service was great super attentive and helpful when I asked for recommendations. Now the important part the food, I ordered the Taiwan mazesoba off recommendation between that and the Sesame noodles. The flavor was delicious the egg yolk added such a good creaminess to the dish so it is important to mix well. My boyfriend ordered the pork over rice which to be honest was our favorite, the flavor was PERFECT and we're both suckers for a jammy egg. This place already has amazing reviews but I'm just glad I can contribute in saying how delicious it is!
Came here with my wife and daughter for dinner. We had a craving for beef noodle soup and the beef roll. Wound up getting those plus cucumbers, mazesoba, and a couple of "cocktails". The beef roll is the best we've had in San Diego, the beef noodle soup is too. The noodles have great texture, the beef is flavorful and the broth is great. The cocktails are soju based so are lighter and a little sweeter. The staff is always so sweet to my toddler and the service is solid. It's a casual place that mostly has bar seating so don't expect fine dining service. It's very attentive, direct, and you have all you need without the pomp and circumstance.
It's located in a plaza with tons of other dining and so the parking gets busy. I had to park a bit down the way and walk over to the plaza. The restaurant is pretty small. They have very few tables and bar seating. My group had to wait to get seated, but their food was worth it. Their popcorn chicken was nice and crispy. I wish there was more flavor though. The beef noodle soup was probably the best I've tried around the area. The noodles are perfectly chewy and soaks up the very flavorful broth. The broth was so delicious. The service was quick once we got seated.
Broth is flavorful, noodles perfect texture. Beef is tender! It's a small space so come early if on the weekend. The beef noodle soup is a pretty huge portion so I would recommend sharing.

Everyone knows parking in convoy is terrible especially on a Friday night. The parking lot in this shopping center in also terrible. But that's all I'll say for parking 1/5 When we arrived there was just a short wait, roughly about 10minutes but it was fine because it gave us time to go through the menu. We got bar seating which was a nice vibe and plenty of table space to eat. Great lighting and also great customer service. The staff was friendly and very helpful, always making sure we were ok. I got the Taiwanese beef noodle soup which was so good. There are two options for noodles, Wavy noodles or classic straight noodles. I picked Wavy noodles and it worked out well and was delicious. The portion size is huge, I couldn't finish it so I packed it to go. The beef was torched to give it a Smokey taste. We also got the Popcorn chicken and that was also a huge portion! It was soooo good! 5/5 Also got two drinks lychee and pomelo 5/5 Overall experience 5/5 I'm going to come back forsure!
Genuinely amazed at how good everything here was! The menu is small and they've seemed to perfect every item on it. My personal favorite was the Taiwanese beef rolls. The scallion pancake was perfectly sweet and savory with such flavorful and juicy beef inside. The cucumber added the perfect crunch. The pork over noodles was fantastic and packed with flavor. I loved the texture of the noodles. Last but not least, the chili wontons were fabulous with such an amazing sauce that we could not get enough of. I can't wait to return to try more off the menu.
Came to formoosa with a couple of friends. I know a terrible parking experience is expected in Convoy, but formoosa is on a whole other level. The parking lot layout is odd, small, and tight, with heavy foot traffic, so expect to struggle during peak hours. formoosa itself is a pretty solid spot. The inside looks very clean and modern, and the decor makes the place feel very bright and inviting. It was not crowded at all when we arrived around 5 PM on a Tuesday. There are QR codes on the table that you can scan to view the menu on your phone. FOOD: My friends and I had mixed reviews about the food. One friend got the pork over rice and said the pork oddly tasted more like beans than meat. My other friend got the sesame noodles and enjoyed them. Taiwanese Mazesoba (3.75/5) - Tasted good and had a nice snappy texture. The flavor itself felt pretty one-dimensional and was on the salty side, even after a good mix. It felt like it was missing an element of something I couldn't quite pinpoint. I'm not mad about it, though. Scallion Pancakes (4/5) - Crispy and flaky. Came with a dipping sauce made of what I think was vinegar, chili oil, and a kind of soy sauce. SERVICE: The service was great and attentive. Waters were kept filled, and they checked up on us often. Food came out pretty fast after ordering, too. TLDR// Solid spot in Convoy, but I'm not sure if the food here totally justifies the parking lot turmoil. Wouldn't be mad at returning.
I got the mazesoba, very solid! Has a good balance of flavors, not too salty and the right amount of umami kick. Wasn't too oily either. The noodles had a good amount of Q. Would come back again!
Stopped by here for lunch on the weekend. The place was pretty packed but we didn't have to wait long. Aiden and James were the ones on staff and they were decently attentive for how busy it was. Vibe was kind of cute with the bar seating. It's giving sushi bar seating. Ordered the pork over rice, Taiwanese beef roll, and popcorn chicken. Everything was good and tasty but a little bit expensive. Popcorn chicken was a decent size and tasted well but 14.5 was a bit high. Kalee & Aiden were in today and super helpful! I got seated right away for a Sunday evening :). Kalee was so sweet to everyone and was working non stop! This was my second time here and both times were amazing. It's been busy both times but the service is fast and everyone looks like they are happy to be there. The grapefruit lemonade tastes like candy but in the best way. The marinated cucumbers are a great appetizer, and the chili wontons are delicious! Beware of the parking though as the parking is limited so you might have to walk a bit, but the food is worth it. read more

Been hearing of this place for a while and decided to give it a try. I made a reservation for a party at four and was seated right away. The restaurant is quite small with only one table that seats a party of four. The staff is really friendly and service was fairly quick. My friend group is all Taiwanese Americans, so we were very excited to try this place. However, it fell a bit short of our expectations. The food wasn't particularly bad, but it wasn't authentic Taiwanese food. The beef rolls were good, but not authentic, and it was a bit too soggy. The scallion and pancakes were very dough and not crispy at all and the pickled cucumbers lacked any flavor. I did enjoy the sesame noodles quite a bit, but the beef noodle soup had a broth that was too sweet for my liking. I think this place is great for a quick bite, but if you're looking for an authentic Taiwanese restaurant, there are other options. Needless to say, we still had a good time here! read more

My fiancé and I ordered the beef rolls, beef noodle soup, and pork over noodles, and everything was delicious. The beef noodle soup was especially impressive--rich, flavorful broth with incredibly tender meat. Service was excellent and very attentive. Had a great experience at Formoosa. The vibe was on point--really nice ambience, great energy, and even better food. We ordered the beef rolls, the spicy beef soup, and the pork over rice with the pickled cucumbers, and everything hit. The beef rolls were a standout, the soup had the perfect kick, and the pork over rice with the pickled cucumbers was just straight comfort food done right. Shoutout to Rachel and Bella--they were awesome. Super friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience smooth without being over the top. Solid recommendations and great timing all around. Wow! Spectacular service and food. There is limited table seating and some bar seating. We waited around 15-20 minutes to get seated on NYE. My favorite dish was the beef roll. The meat was very tender and the scallion pancake was very tasty and flaky. I would recommend the beef soup over the mazesoba but both were great. read more

The Taiwanese noodles is similar to the Vietnamese bo kho that many people love to eat with banh mi, but this is with handmade noodles and the meat was tender and good. The service was great. Was exploring San Diego and we stumbled upon this place in a busy plaza. It's quite a small place so prepare to wait, but it's worth it! Service was quick and our food came out fast. We had the Beef Rolls, Cucumber, and Beef Noodle Soup. Beef Noodle Soup is a MUST! You can easily share this dish with two people (potentially three). Spent the weekend in San Diego and my dad recommended Formoosa - this is his all time fave!!! We shared their famous beef roll (so succulent and juicy) and the pork over noodles! Their portions are so generous and the service is incredible. Our dishes were so flavorful and exceeded quality expectations! This is a perfect spot to enjoy a meal with family and friends. Loved our dinner here! We ordered a variety of things and everything was really well done. The Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup was so good -- the broth had great depth of flavor, and the portion is definitely big enough to share if you're also getting appetizers. My boyfriend had the Pork Over Noodles and gave it a big thumbs up. The Popcorn Chicken was perfectly crispy with really tasty seasoning and sauce, and the Chili Wontons were flavorful and not too spicy. The Pickled Cucumbers were crisp and refreshing, which balanced out the richer dishes nicely. We also tried the Guava Margarita and the Cosmic Mule and both drinks were tasty without being overly sweet. Service was quick and the whole experience felt easy and enjoyable. Nice ambiance where customers sit around bar seating watching servers prepare and serve food and drinks. This type of environment makes it feel more intimate and interactive. We ordered the popcorn chicken, beef noodle soup, beef scallion pancake, and pork over rice. The popcorn chicken was nicely fried but a bit salty. The noodle soup was disappointing in that it lacked the deep rich flavor of the beef. Beef scallion pancake was way too oily and pork over rice was not very memorable. We dined here for early dinner, so there were plenty of tables around. Although the parking is pretty chaotic here since it's very compact... Our server was nice and quite efficient. He got our order down fairly quickly and processed everything smoothly. We weren't too hungry so we thought about just sharing everything, so we got the beef noodle soup, chili wontons, and the popcorn chicken. It didn't take too long for our order to be ready, so that was pleasantly nice. Starting off with the Beef Noodle Soup.... okay it was decent, but it had a strange distinct smell that I wasn't sure what it really was. It's an unfamiliar smell compared to the past beef noodle soup places that I've tried in the SGV or even Taiwan, so the taste was a bit funky. The noodles were also a bit too chewy for beef noodle soup. It was almost similar to the noodles used for udon (but less chunky). Also the beef wasn't even that tender, it tasted a bit more cooked that you have to work for it to pull apart. So based on this noodle soup, like the flavor was a bit off, but it can be enjoyable as it could be. I did like the spice that it had. Next I tried the chili wonton, okay so this was where I thought it had the strangest smell. There was a distinct smell & taste that really was off-putting. I would say this one was the least enjoyable one cause it was kind of unpleasant lol. I didn't want to waste, and at least it's still edible... I actually took this home as leftovers and showed it to my mom and she also said it smelled sooo weird. Then we tried the popcorn chicken, honestly, this was the safest one that was close to Taiwanese cuisine, but it was pretty bland. It was missing all the spices bc this one was kind boring. It was basically just fried chicken with basil. We took this home as leftovers just to elevate it on our own lol. Overall, the taste here is very confusing. I been to Taiwan recently and it really does not taste like this. Even in the SGV, there's no Taiwanese food that tastes like this. I would say it does taste like it's catered to the "gwei-lo"s (IYKYK!!) bc that's San Diego lol. Besides the food, service is good. read more
Cozy spot for Taiwanese beef noodle soup and appetizers! The chili wontons were a little disappointing, they were more vinegar forward and not as spicy as I would have liked. I also tried the popcorn chicken, which was flavorful with the sauce and moist. Lastly we got the beef noodle soup with wavy noodles. The broth was good and the meat was tender, but I thought the wavy noodles would be chewier, they were quite thin. The restaurant is pretty small, with the majority being bar seating. We got here around 5:30pm on a Friday and were seated immediately, but as we were leaving the line got very long. read more

I love this place! I've only been here twice so far and the food and drinks are so yummy. I got the Mazesoba which is new on the menu. It has a strong garlic flavor. I've also tried the pork over noodles which is also very delicious. As far as cocktails, I've tried the lychee colada and the mango one, which are both sake based drinks. They have a happy hour for their cocktails from 2-5pm during the week which I'm sad I can't usually make but it is available. My only qualm is the parking (the lot is impossible to park in during normal hours) and the small space of the restaurant (had to wait 45 min-1 hr for a spot for 4 people walk-in) for dinner on a weekday night. There isn't a lot of seating :( P.S. check in on Yelp for half off any drink and if you finish your food you can get a free dessert (sesame balls)! read more

We had such a great experience here. Everything we ordered was delicious :) The sesame balls were perfectly crispy on the outside with a warm, sweet red bean filling inside. Such a comforting dessert. The Taiwanese beef noodle soup was pure comfort. Rich, flavorful broth, tender braised beef, wide noodles, and egg. Exactly what you want on a cozy day. The scallion pancake was tasty, especially with the sauce, but if you're choosing between this and the beef roll, definitely choose the beef roll. It was my favorite thing on the menu. The peach tea was super yummy and not overly sweet. So good we ordered 2 pots! The Taiwanese beef roll is a must order. If you only get one thing here, make it that. Hands down the best item we tried. Aiden and James were very kind and helpful and made the experience even better. We'll definitely be back! read more

Is this place kids friendly?
No. Only eight table top seats, two tables that seat 2, and one table that seats 4. All the rest of the chairs are seats at the bar.
Are the sesame balls vegan? Any vegan options?
based on my experience, sesame balls are made out of red bean or yellow bean paste covered in sticky rice dough coated with sesame and deep fried. better to look at the inderigent lists if they are vegan pr not as there are different vegan…
Came here 1 day at 9:10 and another at 9:40 when Yelp says they close at 10:30 but both times I was told by the worker they were closed?
How do I make a dinner reservation? I've called multiple times and no one has picked up.
We've been and it was only walk up. Some say you can make reservations but I see no evidence of that beyond calling the restaurant.
