Excellent new addition to Monterey Park, taking the location of the old NY Seafood Restaurant. Went on a fairly dead Tuesday night. The place was still half full. Ordered the steamed Tilapia, half duck (they were out of the huck and BBQ pork combo), and green beans. No joke, I think this was the best roast duck I've had in years. The meat was absolutely tender and not gamey, and the skin had a perfect crisp. The fish was cooked perfectly, and the fish itself was fresh. However, being bottom feeders, the Tilapia meat tasted noticeably earthy/gamey--moreso than usual. Green beans were good. This restaurant serves an excellent HK iced tea, just like at an HK style cafe. They also had the obligatory paper placemats with the James Wang ad on there. The service was very attentive and friendly! I appreciated the clean dining room, covered seats, and the clean newly-remodeled bathroom. This was an excellent dining experience. The food was reminiscent of the home cooking I grew up with. The restaurant was the NYC Seafood for many years at the South end of the shopping plaza at Atlantic and Garvey. The food preparation was all thumbs up, very tasty with just the right amount of flavor and spices, no need for MSG as our mouths were not dry or thirsty from afterwards! My first time to eat here. Outside it looks old but inside it is clean and bright lights. I ordered pork with honey and it was delicious and plenty. It comes with white rice for $17 plus tax. They also give soup and hot tea for free. The servers were very nice and courteous. I will definitely come back here. Parking is plenty. read more

My dad always gets excited for lunch specials, so we came on a Thursday lunch to try this place out. The place was so packed and people had to get a number but it was also really hard to wave someone down to get a number. The place seemed pretty cramp but it still works. The menu had a lot of good lunch specials. I ended up ordering the beef curry, the salt and pepper pork, and clams in black bean sauce, plus we got two drinks. The milk tea was good and strong but the coffee milk tea was very weak, so I would pass on that. You get free soup and white rice, and the soup was pretty good but a little salty with various occasional hard piece of bone or leaf, so please be careful. The curry was watery and I would pass. The flavor was very weak. The salt and pepper pork chops are good and flavorful but definitely seem to have some fatty pieces. The clams were huge and good but I kept biting into chunks of raw onion so that wasn't cooked too well. I also ate the occasional piece of food that was super salty so I dont think they mixed everything evenly. Service was pretty bad, we had to wave down someone 4 times just to get the box and check. It probably is because they're super busy. I don't know if I'll be back, as there are other similar restaurants nearby with more preferable service and taste palate. read more

This is a new restaurant that opened Aug. 1, 2024. I actually went to eat there 2 times last week to try the dishes and see the small private rooms available. The staff is very nice and service is good. We sampled dishes at lunch on a Monday and then dinner on a Friday. The restaurant is still new and wasn't super busy so we got seated right away. We actually reserved a private room for Sunday lunch @ 11:30am. The prices are reasonable and the portions are pretty large. I did not get pictures of food from Sunday's lunch but here are a few from Monday's lunch. They serve Cantonese style food and offer drinks for $1.99 (Coffee, iced coffee, milk tea, lemon iced tea) at lunch. We ordered a deep fried whole fish, bitter melon with beef, and minced chicken with salted fish & eggplant in clay pot. Since we came for the lunch special, we were immediately greeted with complimentary soup and steamed rice, which is traditional at many Cantonese restaurants. The dishes arrived in quick succession. The fish was nice and crispy on the outer side, with a thin, savory dipping soy sauce beneath and raw green onion garnished on top. The beef pieces were nicely velveted and seasoned, and the bitter melon was not too bitter. The eggplant and chicken were both very tender, and the salted fish provided some nice umami. To me, this restaurant is a worthy replacement of Golden City Seafood / Happy Garden, which unfortunately burned down in the Shau May fire a few years ago. read more

This store location used to by NYC or something like that from the 1980 or 1990s. The location was closed and unoccupied for quite a while until Fuxing Spring came along recently. The interior is just typical of ordinary Chinese low budget decoration restaurant. Nothing fancy, modern or impressive if you are entertaining guests. HOWEVER, you come here for the food. Just like any typical traditional Sam Woo restaurants nothing fancy but you get good Chinese food. We tried the lunch specials today, and surprised at the large portions of food they served. Most lunch specials in the neighborhood normally serve much smaller portions. Fuxing Spring lunch specials food portion is equal to other's dinner portion. Taste wise, we enjoyed the food. The beef is tender, but most of all it doesn't have the baking soda taste which many other restaurants do used as tenderizer. Definitely will go back again. read more

During Covid, this restaurant was shut down and I thought it would never re-open. But earlier this year, I noticed that it finally opened back up. The restaurant is located in the same shopping center as 99 Ranch and Capital Seafood on the corner of Garvey & Atlantic. There are some parking spaces right out front, but most of those were taken when we got there. We came on Mother's day at around 11am and there was no one in the restaurant yet. They were able to accommodate our party of 10 in 1 table. According to the pictures on Yelp, I didn't see any large tables. Walking in, there was a small table to the left and down the hallway looked to be another room. I didn't go to the restroom so not sure if that was an actual dining area or they are just using it for storage. Because it was a holiday, they did not offer the lunch special menu. We decided to order the Combination D for $248. This was more than enough food for the entire table. We had a lot of left overs. For the most part, the food was pretty tasty and nothing was off putting or regret getting. The Peking duck was good, but it lacked that crispy skin you normally get. But because this is Cantonese style, it's not super crispy. The only thing that I didn't care for was the cold chicken with ginger sauce. The texture was not great as it was either an old chicken or they over cooked it. It was soft and crumbly almost like how roast beef would taste like if you over cook it. It was ok and would have tasted better if it didn't have that texture. We also ordered the salt & pepper calamari. That was seasoned well and crispy. It was a pretty good sized serving too. After we finished eating, the manager or owner came by and said that we get dessert. It ended up being red bean. We waited about 10 minutes before it came out and he came by and apologized about the wait. The red bean soup was actually burnt and you can smell it right away. It didn't throw off the taste too much, but you can definitely taste that it's burnt. I don't know if I would come back here, not because it's bad or anything. On Father's Day, my dad recommended we eat here, and it was actually his second time coming within three days. He really enjoyed it with his friends the first time and wanted to celebrate Father's Day here, along with a few birthdays in the family. The food was amazing. We ordered lobsters, winter melon soup, fried fish, clay pot rice, snow peas, honey walnut shrimp, Shanghai rice noodles, and salt and chili wings. Everything was tasty and delicious. My family holds very high standards, and honestly, they are picky eaters. They just know what's authentic and good. No nonsense, no cheap substitutes. Fuxing Spring delivers exceptional quality and gave us the best service we've had compared to most restaurants in the neighborhood. Bin was a true star. He's the perfect example of how to treat customers like family and made sure we felt welcome and full. Thank you to all the staff as well, because everyone was just as kind and attentive. The ambiance was great, and the accommodations were just right. They have a karaoke room and private rooms where you can enjoy a more intimate dinner with family and friends. I went with a friend for a Friday lunch so we chose 2 lunch specials that we shared family style. Right away they serve a large bowl of soup. Not sure what I was eating/drinking but it was a tasty start to the meal. Ordered lemon iced tea and we shared Egg Tofu with Mixed Mushroom and Beef Broccoli. When dishes were ready, they brought out a container of steamed rice with enough for about 4 small rice bowls worth. We still had rice leftover as well as some of the egg tofu and beef broccoli. When we asked for the check and containers, the server asked if we wanted them to box it for us which they did. Portions were large enough for another regular sized meal. So price value was really good. Both dishes were very tasty. I would get both again. The gravy on the egg tofu was delicious mixed with rice. Service was attentive. Whenever a new Hong Kong cafe opens in the San Gabriel Valley, I make it a point to stop there to try it at least one time. When I saw Fuxing Spring was so close to me, I knew I had to come give it a try. This restaurant has a breakfast menu until 11:30 so I knew I had to come give it a try. I came here with my family for brunch. The restaurant is quite spacious with abundant seating, which is quite nice. We ended up sharing a congee with rice noodle rolls and also a corned beef scallion sandwich with ham macaroni. The servings for the rice noodle rolls were generous. The congee was solid for San Gabriel Valley. I loved the corn beef sandwich. I also loved that this restaurant's breakfast entrees can come with cold beverages without extra cost, which I love for the summer time. They have good lunch specials. The food is actually pretty good. You know it's a good deal when you see a bunch of senior citizens eating there during lunch. We only tried a few dishes and they were all solid. Everything had good wok-hei. I'm happy they speak English because most of their restaurants in this neighborhood only speaks Chinese. We came here for the first time to celebrate my grandma's 92nd birthday and it did not disappoint. We had the private room and it was the perfect amount of space for ~18 of us. The food was delicious and the service was great. The room did get a little too cold at times but they quickly adjusted that for us. Even tho they close at 10 and probably closed the kitchen in about 15 minutes...but when I asked I was told it was OK to order, so i got their soy sauce chow mein 5/5 with bean sprouts onions and green onions. The dish was ridiculously generous...and its a feast for the eyes.. thank goodness my friends wanted to try it and loved it. They had difficulty ordering earlier, apparently no one spoke English....but I swoop in and get them a refreshed pot of hot tea and a coupla forks. Only the servers and kitchen staff were eating at 9:45 pm...no one rushed us or pressured us to close out the check. Really kind, nice setvers. Unlike most other restaurants where each dish comes with one rice. Seafood noodle is at the lighter side. Clam is fresh, chicken is tender and we really enjoyed the scallion sauce. House special fish is fried with sauce similar to sweet and sour. It is good with rice and was crispy when it first came our. You really need to eat it while is still hot. As for dinner, the size is pretty decent. We still have two left over dishes. We might return or might not since nothing really stood up.
