IT doesn't get more real mom and pop than this Taiwanese restaurant.

since it's one of the few Taiwanese restaurants in the area that opens 'til after midnight, it's a good quick fix for all those Taiwanese who have the habit of staying up late and finding themselves hungry. i mean, there are always cafes and norms and fast food that are open 24 hours. but true Taiwanese hunger can only be tamed by Taiwanese food. and that means fatty pork, rice, stinky tofu and other trashy foods of the like. i usually only order a fixed couple of dishes here. most of them rice with the stuff that they simmer in soy sauce. so that includes any pork with rice dish there. the portion is a bit small for me, and I'm pretty sure they don't put a lot of effort into preparing it, since the preparation is mostly as follows: 1. get rice 2. get the pork (minced or chunks depending on your dish) and an egg from the pot and dump it on the rice 3. garnish it with a pickled slice of radish but i can't help but drool over it. if you're not in the mood for fatty pork, the shredded chicken over rice dish is also pretty good. that's one of the fixed dishes that i get. if you're into noodles, there's a dish involving dry noodles (without soup) -- although i forgot the English name. in Chinese it's straightforward, -- literally xiao hwei dry noodles. xiao hwei is just some random name. for sides, the stinky tofu is decent. i usually like to get intestines or plain sliced pork, tastes left from years of my mom's cooking. I'd rate the service at a C. it's a small place (seats around 30-40) so i don't really mind that they're mostly killing time right outside the store smoking and whatnot. if you want your service here, you just go ahead and walk up to them and they'll be happy to get you what you need. from how they talked I'd say they sound like mainland Chinese, although the main cook seemed like he's lived in Taiwan before. I'm just glad, really, that the authenticity has not been stripped and pseudocized. rated 4 stars for late night supplying of decent Taiwanese food. read more

I really like this restaurant. the lady is very very nice she helps us to order Taiwanese local food. is tasted very delicious, especially the transitional Taiwanese chicken soup. i definitely will visit more in future. read more

What do you say about a restaurant that's open from 6PM to 3AM? They are on China time?! I would so love to come here if they were open for lunch, but I guess if they are busy enough they don't need to. A long time ago I gave up on the local café spots because the food was just so artificial. I really don't know how I put up with it for so many years... Good Shine was my late night sober up savior... Almost everything on the menu is good and it is usually hit or miss when this place is busy or not. Sometimes you have to wait, other times its empty. This place also uses a kind of Japanese rice (I believe) for some of their dishes giving the food a pleasant twist. I usually don't write reviews but this place deserves 5 stars!! I probably come here at least once a week with a group of friends that the staff remembers our order and how we like it cooked. One of the best after hour spot after a heavy night of drinking. Open late until 4am. I always order deep fried pork intenstines x 2 and pig ear....BOMB!!.... My experience with Good Shine is from many months ago but I just realized this funny experience right now from reading a fellow yelper's similar story. This is going to be the most bias review for this place ever. We originally went to JJ's but it sucked, I'm not surprised. So my friend took us here instead. I walked in, sat, placed my head on the table and was out cold. The next time I woke up, I was in the car on my way home. Yes, I was drunken asleep while my friends ate, took pictures and clowned on me. So there you go Good Shine, you get 5 stars because I slept peacefully while my friends ate. This is a pretty small place for Chinese/Taiwanese food. It only opens from 6pm to 4am so that's a plus if you're out partying all night and wanted a late night meal. The food is okay but I find everything very greasy. read more

Food at this place is really good. My friend and I came here last week at 3 in the morning on Thursday because we were hungry but nothing open except tasty garden. We've been there quite number of times already so were like nah. Let try something new. And we saw the this store. The lady welcomed us as we walked in. I really wanted to give this place a good review, but I just can't. The food looks really good, but once you take a bite it's very bland. It just tastes like... I can't say because there really wasn't any. It just felt like warm stuff in my mouth. And this isin't based upon one item off the menu. This is based off me trying my food (vegetable fried rice and stinky tofu), and two of my friends food, consistently bad. Decent place to get your fix for Chinese food. Not the best I've had, but this is about as good as it gets when it comes to late night eats in Chinese food. I recommend trying their sausage fried rice and according to the owners, they make their own sausages. Cheap, good tasting late night food, this is definitely the place. read more

Warning, this place has no bathroom. Laundromat next door has a public one (not clean/creepy). Bring quarters, it cost a quarter each time using that creepy bathroom. Food is below average, environment is poor. Tried the pork chop on rice, over priced, and doesn't come with an egg. I have had this dish at many other places/a basic Taiwan rice dish. This is by far the worst. For a place with such poor facility, and quality of food, they charge too much. I gave two stars for decent service. read more

I haven't written a review in awhile and it took this visit to good shine kitchen to motivate me to write a review again. The oyster pancake here is legit and is the closest to the ones in Taiwan as I've had. I also tried their xlb, pot stickers, sausage fried rice and stinky tofu and they were all good. The stinky tofu definitely stinks real good and the other items although not outstanding, definitely still beats a lot of other popular Taiwanese restaurants in the area. This place is fairly small and can get packed, but the service is excellent and they turn their tables pretty fast. This will be my go to place for authentic Taiwanese eats from now on. This place is quiet weird it opens up at 6Pm and stays open until till 6am. a great late night spot if you want to avoid the cafe's and denny's. i recommend the xiao long bao, hot and sour soup, and this fried rice with a fried egg on top, which is topped with ketchup. quiet weird but yummie! read more

I just can't take their oyster pancake - five small oysters in a small omelette, how could anyone that had stayed in Taiwan take this? In additional, the soup part of the beef noodle is fine, but the noodle is not. The noodle brake in half before you even start eating them. Not to mention that their seafood is terrible as well, and the vegetable is hardly chewable. At last, the chef is not Taiwanese and the guest is not Taiwanese - which probably explains everything. read more

I love this place! It's a small hole in the wall with limited seating, but it's soooo worth it. The fried pork intestine is to die for. All I can say is that this is my comfort food. I eat it when I'm drunk and sober and it always satisfies my cravings and is always GOOD. However, I will say I have not tried their whole menu and I always get the same thing everytime, but my review is based on what I eat. Good Shine has never disappointed me! i love this place for late night eats. like ive said in other reviews, when hungry at 2-3 in the morning, the last thing i want is a big mac or some burger from a drive thru. this is where good shine kitchen shines. :P open for the late night crowd. and closed one day a week. ill pick good shine kitchen over dennys or norms any day after a night out. from what i am told by friends and yelp reviews, this is a pretty authentic Taiwanese style eatery. the cook is always whipping stuff up and working his magic, and the lady is always nice and ready to take your order with a smile and remembers me everytime i come in. her friendliness keeps me coming back. i always try to leave a tip for her to show my appreciation, seems most people dismiss leaving a tip here. i am still trying new dishes every time i go. but the ones i regularly get are the hamburger rice, or shredded chicken rice, with an extra egg. perfect combination of meat and rice, and proportioned enough to fill you up without feeling like youre being forced to finish the food. i also like their deep fried goodies, salt pepper shrimp is basically like deep fried shrimp, and there not tiny baby shrimp either. salt pepper chicken is basically like popcorn chicken, except with more flavor. salt pepper pork intestine, is thinly sliced then deep fried, delicious and moist. i usually don't order innards like that when i go out to restaurants cause they tend to be hit or miss, but good shine is a hit every time. ive had their shrimp fried rice which was very delicious, i asked the chef to make it a little spicy, and a little spicy he made it. nice fried rice dish for sure. oyster pancake was good too, but a little to saucey/soggy for my everyday taste, but do crave it once in awhile. i still need to go back and try more things. if i lived closer, theres no question id be eating there every day. nothing beats good shine kitchen when you're hungry at 2-3 in the morning. read more

I was there 3AM this last Sunday AM. The place was clean and full. We had the Burger Pork rice and stinky tofu. Both were very good. Looks like a lot of interesting dishes to try out. Meh! Don't get me wrong the good was decent and price was relatively inexpensive. But over use of oil in every dish from their stir fried noodles [satay beef chow mein] to their soups was unappealing. I was eager to float ice pieces in my soup to solidify the excess oil. I mean it seemed as an oil tanker had spewed creating a barrier to their broth. Other than that this spot is extremely popular post clubbing or whatever night owls conjure up. I can admire this with deep respect and that was the humble, polite and courteous manners of the staff. Although younger patrons venture in, one would never notice the age stratification. Regardless of what creed you are the welcoming greeting to the simple thank you as you leave is refreshing for any Asian restaurant. And on that lone factor I would be a repeat customer...in our technological based world I feel customer service in any sense has always been fleeting. So go try out GOOD SHINE...you'll have a good time ahahahaha read more
