So I woke up hungry and didn't know what to cook so I drove to the restaurant and ordered 6 bowls of noodle soup. Totally early, no sign of any customer yet only me. Waited for roughly 10-20 minutes and got my bags of noodle. It was nothing i ever expected. The noodle was horrible! There was a taste but not a delicious kind, it was very bland, the soup doesn't smell good, and the noodle was too soft. I look at my dad and he can't even chew those food in. I thought i was the only one having a taste problem but my whole family can't even swallow the noodle down. I guess the cooker is not much of a morning person. read more

Enjoy eating here. Have never had a bad experience. Owner is such a hard working man. They transform the restaurant into a ballroom setting for private parties. I go there once or twice a month for a wedding or birthday parties. Most of the time over 300 people. Food is always hot and service is wonderful. I highly recommend this place. read more

So what I thought to be hilarious was that we actually came here on a whim and didn't know that there was an event happening in it.... I called to check their hours and they were just kind of like "come on down!" The food is pretty good! The portions are very generous and they've got a huge menu full of Cambodian dishes I've never heard or seen before. I got the beef over the fried rice with a fried egg and it was delicious! The plate was too large for me to finish. By the time I was done it looked like I barely ate anything. And it was only $9! This is definitely a one plate per two people kind of place. Service was good. They were friendly and efficient. They did check up on us from time to time but we were too busy watching the random people dancing to Cambodian music in front of us. I've been here twice. The first time, I wasn't impressed, the food lacked flavor and some of the vegetables didn't taste fresh, but I will admit that their pan fried noodles are up to par (mi gah tang). Second time I was here was for my cousin's wedding, which is why it got an additional star. The place really transform to a banquet hall once all the decor is in, instead of the outdated decorations they normally have. Ample seating and open bar with a bartender who was knowledgeable, so it helps. The wedding food was also better than what I've had here. read more

I am from the midwest, so it was refreshing being able to go to a khmer restaurant. Parking is a little tight, but the restaurant itself is pretty spacious. This place is so good! Its taken us 3 years to try it since moving to the neighborhood and we are sad we didn't come sooner. The prices are super affordable and the flavor is on point! We had the beef lok lok with a fried egg on top and the lemon grass chicken. The beef was super tender and served on a bed of veggies and was our favorite of the 2; though the chicken was very good too. The portion of the food always filled me up like the jelly filling in a donuts lol.. the flavor is always on point to my need. On the weekend, they will have live band playing khmer pop culture music. If u like good music and don't mind they singing in khmer(language) I do recommend going on the weekend. The prices on the menu did not add up to the amount I was charged. I should have asked to double check my orders but I was in a rush to leave. I went in 10minutes after the time he gave me because my friend ordered for me once before and they took longer than what we was told. Another good restaurant for Cambodian food and a few Chinese noodle dishes. I have eaten here a few times and food was always good. Service is slow but it's not surprising, just be patience. I don't know what happened to this place. It's good some days and just boo boo the next. I've been coming here since I was a little girl and had loved the food here. We've attended so many family dinners, wedding receptions, birthdays, graduations and ceremonies here When you walk in you either see a bunch of tables or you walk through these beautifully decorated waiting area with sheer curtains, crystal curtains, and pillars from events held there probably. There's no greeter but that's typical for Cambodian restaurants so no biggie just a fair warning to others. Their service is OK. The owners know my parents since we've been coming here for so long so we haven't received bad service yet. The food however have been changing over the years. It even seemed like they try to put a Thai fusion to it by calling the me ka tang, pad se ew. When she repeated my order I was like "what? No, I want me ka tang!" Pad se ew and Me ka tang uses the same noodles, meat and certain veggies but that's as far as they go for being similar. They are 2 completely different tasting dishes and if I wanted Thai food I'd go to a Thai restaurant. Anyhow my me ka tang came completely dry which means no flavor, what little flavor it had was in the sauce and I had none. The one I had ordered to go for my mom however was full of sauce?! I'm like wth?! This was not how it use to be. Their fried pork intestines came out soft and not even a hint of crispiness if that's even a word. Their noodle soup and family meal deals are still on point though, haven't had a problem with that yet and I hope we won't ever because it's a great deal for yummy food. So 3 stars for dine in service because of the inconsistency with the food. For events this place is beautiful and the food served at events are always on point! They have free valet parking. Security because the area's not the best. The service is great. There's a small changing room behind the stage. This would be 5 stars for the events I've attended and was a part of here. All together 3.5 stars. I would recommend this place for events and for walk in dining I would recommend their noodle soup, porridge or family specials but not the me ka tang. I took my wife, daughter and friend here for lunch today. The service was horrible! You figure we would get great and fast service because we were almost the only ones there, only 3 tables with people, but service was non-existent. I ordered a side of fried rice, and that is all I wanted, they should have told me they were putting chunks of sausage and shrimp in my rice. I just wanted rice. My wife ordered a soup on the menu because it looked so good, but when they brought the soup out, it did not even look close to what was in the pictureon the menu. They never came back to our table to provide refills on our drinks, you have to get up and get them to refill. They never came back to our table to offer us a desert menu. There was a lady cleaning and setting up tables around us, and always looking at our table. They never came to our table to clear the dishes. I was sitting at our table with my credit card out hoping someone would come and bring the check, and no one did. There was a lady even looking at our table and you could tell she was never going to come over. I had to get up and walk to their register, and the 2 people standing at the register asked me, "Are you ready for your bill?" Really? Yes, I was ready 15 minutes ago. How lazy can they be. A big sign outside their building saying "Free Obamacare sign-up!" Really? You don't put this stuff up outside your restaurant. A big red Home Depot sign at the register that said WARNING! and warning people about drinking alcohol. Totally wrong! And a big sign saying they reserve the right to refuse service to anyone, right below the register. Totally wrong! You don't put this crap up in a restaurant. They have another sign on the wall near the front door telling customers to monitor their children at all times. Totally wrong! This place seems totally paranoid about bad behaving customers and legal problems to put so many warning signs up everywhere. Just take them all down, everyone knows this stuff already. It is your restaurant, and you can deal with problem customers in private without having to put huge warning signs up to tell customers what you can tell them in private. Just take all the signs down. It makes us think we are all at the local DMV office! LOL My wife had to get up and ask someone for a to go tray so we can take our leftovers. My wife told me she will not come here again, and I agree. There is a total disregard for customer service in this place. If you go to this place, be prepared to get up yourself and serve yourself. So I came here for a Chinese wedding... it was a nice wedding. The place is small - it fits about 200 people and probably that's it. There is a dance floor and stage. FOOD: So the bride and groom ordered the standard Chinese ten course meal - appetizer, soup, lobster, crab, fish, duck, fried rice, etc. It was alright. * Lobster - it lacked in the standard Chinese flavor that other restaurants have. I was looking forward to this dish, but it was rather lacking in flavor. * Soup - Lots of crab meat... so this was good, but again... lack in flavor. * Crab - Okay... this was the best dish along with the duck. It had a lot of meat, which is always wanted for a dinner. * Duck - flavorful * Fried rice - standard SERVICE: Very lacking. Everything started late and we weren't checked up on at all. Wow... we had to serve ourselves for the soup... which is VERY UNCOMMON for a Chinese restaurant, especially for a wedding. AMBIANCE: Restaurant style... standard PARKING: Very limited. They did offer valet, but I think that was from the bride and groom. My friend's parents threw a graduation dinner for her and invited about 20 of her friends and 60 of their friends. It was almost like a wedding reception except she wasn't getting married. They just felt like celebrating the new doctor in the family. Hooray for us because we got to try some Cambodian food. The dinner started with a cold platter that consisted of cold cuts, shrimp, picked vegetables, and some jellyfish concoction. It was definitely edible and started out our meal with some light munching. The next out was the spicy beef salad. It was on top of a bed of crunchy noodles. Delicious. Our next dish was shark fin and crab soup. The soup was peppery and not fishy at all. I despise fishy anything and the fact that it wasn't, made it better for me. You don't want to see this girl spit out her food. Next up, sauteed lobster in jalapenos and green onions. This was surprisingly yummy. The lobster was sauteed in the shell so we had to dig it out and boy were those claws HUGE. There was another soup that arrived but by then we had already used up our little soup bowls so we had to ask the waitress for more bowls. The soup was a prawn soup with potatoes and tomatoes. It looked like a bouillabaisse, but I didn't have any because the boneless duck dish came out. I love duck. My family enjoys a healthy dose of Peking duck ever so often, but this boneless duck was weird. It came out in molded from a bowl (how it was cooked) and it was fall apart soft. Unfortunately, it was dry and bland. I was seriously disappointed. I'm sticking to Peking duck from now on. Lastly, the fried rice came out. Why does fried rice always come out last? It was so-so and nothing special. For dessert they brought out a bowl of lotus seed che. It is a cold, sweet soup served with sugary syrup full of lotus seeds, dates, and leaves that I can't identify. It was a refreshing end to the array of courses we were just served. The food was coming out at a rate of a dish for every 15 minutes. We had a max of 3 dishes on our table at once, the others would not have fit. Super fast service. The entertainment were Cambodian singers singing in Cambodian. It is similar to what I'd expect from Vietnamese banquet restaurants that cater to weddings as well, so it was nothing new. The music was loud and it was hard to hear the people around me. The food was ok. The ambiance was fun and lively. The occasion was worth celebrating and my friend had a wonderful time. read more

I enjoyed the music and was glad to see a few of my favorite singers all together at the same time accompanying me to my meal. I think they sang all of my favorite songs... so I liked that. The frog legs were yum! Parking sucked though... and I heard about some shooting awhile back where they didn't want to be liable, so they dragged the victim to the street. Booo! A friend took me here for lunch.. some thoughts. [the menu] The menu really looks like a cross section between three cuisines, VIetnamese, Chinese, and Cambodian. In reality the dishes probably all came from the Chinese and propagated to the other se asian countries. You get your standard faire stuff like pho, bo luc lac (i reckon to say vietnamese), mi xao don (crispy fried noodle), etc. [deep fried chicken pieces] One thing that impresses me much about Hak Heang is their control and usage of heat. All of the chicken pieces had skin, and were fried pretty perfectly. Served with rice, some pickled vegetables, and a bowl of beef broth (at least in Vietnamese culture, you serve a bowl of broth with dry ingredients to offset it). [beef skewers] The beef seemed to be marinated in lemon grass and soy sauce, but again, their char on the beef was pretty amazing. It really takes care to get that nice browned exterior on beef. [overall] Hak Heang doesn't push any new culinary boundaries. You aren't going to see any new dishes, and in some ways I feel that their menu plays it safe (well the sub header to the restaurant DOES say "Chinese Seafood Restaurant..") What you will get is food done really well at good places. I don't know if I would drive across town for it, but if I'm nearby, it is a definite place to stop by. read more

This place is only good for weddings. This is one of the best Cambodian restaurants in Long Beach or even near by. I suggest Hak Heang or New Paradise if you want to eat real Cambodian food. If loud music bothers you, do not come during the weekends in the morning - they will have live bands and it's really loud but my parents enjoy it. Overall Experience/Service: i've been born and raised in Long beach and use to come to this restaurant growing up while my dad played in their band. I had not gone there for a long time and recently went there for Father's Day with some friends and family for lunch. I was extremely disappointed with the experience. I know it was busy because of Father's day, but we had to literally hunt down for a waiter for at least 20 minutes and our food all arrived at different times so while others were eating at our table, some were just sitting there watching..... The Food: Excellent, great flavor and presentation. Environment: The most upsetting to me was the performance. The singers were very inappropriate, I went during lunch time where there were many families with young kids (we had kids under 8 at our table) and it looked like a strip club on stage. The Singers were collecting money in their private areas and enacting "sexual acts" on stage by grinding one another. Our table was so disgusted by their unprofessional actions. Our kids felt very uncomfortable. There was even a kid having his 5th birthday party there! The singers had no shame and was surprised management didn't say anything. I have never been to a khmer restaurant where the singers were sexual, immature, and unprofessional like this. This place was recommended by a friend. We came here for dinner at around 9:30pm and to my surprise there was music and dancing. At first, I thought it was close for a private party, but they were actually open. We were accommodated right away & was serve with hot tea! Perfect for the weather since we came from Big Bear that night. So that's a + I was looking through the menu and I decided to have egg noddles with beef ball. One of my favorite Cambodian restaurants! My go to if I'm in the mood for some rice dishes! I usually order their lok lak which is stir fried cubed beef served with either white or fried rice and a side of lime and pepper sauce. It's sooooo good!! I don't know how they get their beef fried so well. Just writing this review is making me hungry.
