We ordered the equivalent soup noodle dishes we get at Noodle Shack and we were pleasantly surprised. Each dish was slightly different. But they were just as good. The prices were very affordable and portions were good too. It definitely doesn't look like the cleanest place, but the food is good. Cambodian friends recommended this restaurant because it was well known as the venue for so many Cambodian weddings and events. Service here wasn't great as a waitress ignored my friend's request, was very rude as if she didn't want to serve us and we weren't greeted with a welcome once we arrived so we definitely didn't feel welcomed here. It feels like a decorated warehouse when you're here not for a banquet. But the food is as authentic as it gets, and it's not an ethnic establishment you want to skip. Fried Pig Intestines sound scary, but they're delicious. Rings of fabulous fat with pickles and a scoop of rice. There's a great beef soup on the side as well. Lok Lak is a staple dish, salty bed cubes sauteed in coverlet soy, with a tangy dipping sauce. All that meat, and there needs to be seafood. I can't resist a giant Salt and Pepper Crab. It's super-salty and greasy as sin, and it's everything I hoped for.  Those rice plates and side soup are so filling, and they are impossibly cheap. Less than $10 for a full meal? Done deal! Not the best neighborhood, but that's no reason to miss out! read more

Have been coming here since I was a little girl. My grandpa was a musician here before he passed away in 2005. Food is great and they still have some of the same servers from way back when. Those who complain about service need to understand it's not an American restaurant. Waitress/waiters are nice but they don't come to check on you every 15 minutes. They come over to your table once you are seated to take your order, bring it out and that's it. You'll have to flag em down if you want something else. And for new customers, when it's time to pay, you go up to the cash register, tell them your table number and pay up there. read more

This is probably my favorite place to grub on beef sticks and papaya salad. The meat is burst with flavors and perfectly barbecued! The lemongrass and Khmer seasonings are well blended. This place is like a family picnic. It helps that through marriages and a huge-ass family, I'm probably related within 3 degrees to the proprietors. Everything here is inexpensive, family sized, fresh, and most importantly, well made. Trust me, I know my Khmer food. Not just from growing up, either - the month of December for me was spent in the homeland drinking more beer than water. It was like a gauntlet of authentic Khmer cooking and not dysentery. Thankfully. So, from a month of having only street Khmer, picnic Khmer, home Khmer, and restaurant Khmer food, I can say that the folks at Hak Heang know what they're doing. They even mistook me for Chinese, just like the Khmer people in Srok Khmer (that's Cambodian for "Cambodia," whitey) did. Ah, what a month! The highlights: salt batter squid, the house special chicken, sach ko ang (grilled beef sticks), and pleah sach ko (Khmer beef salad/carpaccio). Get them. Be merry. And, put hot sauce or peppers on everything to experience the sensation of actually eating in sweaty, 95 degree weather. One thing: I'm not sure what importing is like for Angkor beer, but that would just make this place that much more legit. read more

Do not eat here! I got food poisoning from ordering #26 or #27 I forget . It's the rice noodles with beef n gravy. The Chinese broccoli tasted sour n I should've known better but was hungry n I also gave some to my friends daughter and she got sick too! I feel bad for giving it to her but it's not my fault. All these Cambodian Restaurants in Long Beach are all the same to me, not one of them really stands out where I'm like "wow" about it. However, when there's no food at home and I'm craving Asian, I usually call in for take-out at Hak Heang because it's fast compared to the other Khmer Restaurants. For example, I would call to make an order and then ask them how long will it take until I can pick up my order and their answer is always five minutes, and it's true each and every time. It really does take them five minutes to make my food, I don't know how they do it, but it's done! This was our first stop on Cambodia Day. Arrived here at 10am to a security guard sitting out front and blaring Cambodian music when we walked in. A trio of performers took turns singing the latest pop hits out of Cambodia. The music was way too loud but I kind of enjoyed the vibe that it leant. Seriously though, too loud. The four of us could barely hear each other. On to the food: Apparently Cambodian restaurants usually serve a combination of Chinese, Thai and Cambodian food. So be ready for that. Fish Porridge (3.5/5): Actually very fishy and gingery. I was surprised by how much the fish flavor imparted itself into the porridge. Balanced nicely by the ginger. This was a great way to start our meal. Chinese Donuts (3/5) Ordered in conjunction with our porridge. The donuts looked great but they were a little greasy. Not quite as crispy and airy as I wanted them. I think they need to turn their oil up a little bit more and they will achieve great success on these. Although not the best I've ever had, these pair well with porridge as they provide that crispy texture that makes soft porridge taste so good. Lemon Grass Stew(4/5): By far the most Cambodian dish we had. The flavor is great. Nice and tart. The water spinach is my favorite component of the dish. Cooked so that it's soft yet crunchy is the way to go. If you come here, I suggest you order this dish. My only complaint was there was not very much meat in it. A lot of tripe, not a lot of anything I liked aside from the soup and the veggies. = Seafood Mixed Flat Rice Noodles (3/5): Not actually the name, more a description of what it is. This wasn't very good. Not that flavorful. I would probably pass on this dish. Over-all I enjoyed this place for the experience but I can not fully say that it's the best restaurant that I've ever been to. One thing that was cool is walking out of the restaurant at 11AM I had just felt like I had just pulled an all nighter gambling in a casino. Authentic Khmer food. Came to visit family and we stopped by for lunch. Parking can be a hassle. It was full when we arrived but the employee valets. We ordered steamed fish, stir fry ginger lobster, meat kabobs, beef sour soup, lemongrass frog legs and stir fry clams. All was delicious and felt like my mother's cooking. I'm not Cambodian, so I always feel a bit out of place whenever I come here. It's a big restaurant (usually used for banquets and weddings) that's usually full with large families. There's live music and a stage. I guess the most notable dish (at least according to the party I was with) is the ka tieu. It's described as cambodian pho, with soup on the side. Simple dish, but pretty flavorful. The other dishes are decent. But personally, nothing outstanding. Don't get the fried donuts, when we ordered them, they tasted old and weren't warm. read more

2 1/2 stars. We arrived around 1 PM. The restaurant was big, there were plenty of empty tables and we were seated right away. There was a live band playing on the stage in the far back and it also appeared that customers were allowed to sing, karaoke style I ended up ordering the rice and beef ( I believe it's called Lok Lak) and it came with a side of soup. The food was ok , the portion was big and it was well seasoned but there was nothing that stood out about it. I don't know if it's because it was my first time having Cambodian food but there was strong a odor coming from my dish and I could not finish it. On the plus side, service was great and it's very inexpensive. I will probably go back and try another dish, have a couple drinks and maybe sing a song. We'll see :). read more

Cheap and delicious authentic cambodian food (most of their dishes are very indentical/similar to vietnamese dishes as well). Don't expect a fancy dining experience here. Just expect good food, that's all that matters! Parking can be tricky on a busy weekend. They do have someone park your car for you if there are no spots vacant. Although I'd prefer to park my own car. I usually always get the Hu Tieu Trieu Chau (combo rice noodle soup..broth is super flavorful), mom in law got Hu Tieu Do Bien (seafood version), and hubby got Hu Tieu Xao Do Bien (stir fry seafood noodles w/gravy). The grilled beef stick with pickled carrot and papaya was also yummy. All were delicious! read more

Although, I've always been curious and am glad that I've gotten to satiate that curiosity with places like Hak Heang Restaurant situated a little north of Downtown Long Beach these past few months. Having lived in Long Beach my entire life, it's surprising that I finally was able to get to it after all these years. I had the opportunity to check out Hak Heang Restaurant with some friends of mine who were Cambodian and recommended this place. I guess it helped having them there with the comfort level as I would otherwise be too intimidated to go in by myself. They recommended I get the Bo Luc Lac with a fried egg with a side of beef broth. SO GOOD. My palette for Cambodian food is limited, but I enjoyed what was served. The service was quite quick - within minutes of ordering the food came out. We came during the lunch hour, and parking was not too bad. However, I've driven by this place during the weekends, and it looks insane for the parking situation. It's a huge hall with space for a dancefloor and band, but we came during lunch on a weekday, and only half the room was occupied. Overall, I'd recommend checking out Hak Heang Restaurant. If you are a Long Beach resident and have not had Cambodian Food, you're missing out. It can be a little intimidating, but if you're willing to step out of your comfort zone, you'll be quite surprised how delicious it can be. I'm still in the process of discovering Cambodian cuisine, so stay tuned, but places like Hak Heang Restaurant make it easy to jump right in. I've been coming here with my fam since the late 90's and the service at Hak Heang is usually a hit or miss. Sometimes the waiters notice us, sometimes they don't. If you plan on eating here on a Saturday morning, try to come around 10-10:30 AM because once it hits lunch time and they still haven't noticed you and/or probably have forgotten about you, you and your empty stomach will both be hangry. Plus, the parking situation sucks at that time too, so be prepared! You have been warned. Aside from the cons of this place, the food quality of this place has changed in a good way. All of the dishes come out well presented and the portion sizes are enough to make a person finish their food and be full. My only complaint with the food is that the complimentary soup lacks flavor and tastes too watery. read more

Atmosphere was loud music which would be nice if they turned down it a couple of notches with the speakers. Food took little bit over an hour to be served. I had a spot where I used to get Lok Lak but they closed during COVID. Decided to try this place after my neighbor recommended it. Honestly doesn't compare to my old spot. We got the lok lak and a few other items off the menu and it just seemed like I was eating takeout food. The taste was meh not great especially for the price.
