Stringbean tofu lunch w/brown rice, fresh veggies & sesame balls $10.95 To go
Donna N.

Take out only for lunch today ! ? She has a variety of wonderful lunch specials available, that come with either chowmein, fried rice or brown or white rice plus there are extra sautéed veggies ( broccoli, cabbage & onions included ) My favorite is the stringbeans & tofu !! We went across the street to a bench in the parking lot to eat our lunches. Very tasty & she even included some sesame balls !! Service is very quick & food is always yummy !! It's too bad she doesn't have inside seating anymore - it's spacious & nicely decorated

Finally I found a great old school authentic Chinese place! Chow fun is how it should be, and wide noodles with great flavor. Decent prices and good portion. Waitress even so nice she gave me a few sesame balls for dessert that were delicious! Only downside is take out only. Would love to sit for lunch sometime. Definitely will be back!

We always enjoy the food here. It seems fresh and well made with simple flavors that feel like eating home Food.

The website listed here is AI generated? The featured photo is a large piece of glass that someone found in their food and posted to Yelp. I called the restaurant to place an order and they did not answer, so I found them on Uber Eats and placed an order for pickup. When I got there, the person who handed me the food told me "call us to place an order, if you order through UberEats, every dish is $2-3 dollars more." I ordered their seafood on pan-fried noodles, salt and pepper pork, and dry braised string beans. I was 10 mins late to pick up, so I understand some of the food got soggy from steam inside the boxes. HOWEVER, the pan-fried noodles were so stale that it was inedible. The pork was extremely salty and most of the pieces turned out to be bones that were battered and fried. It could have been better balanced with plain rice (which was not included), so I had to make some at home to pair with the leftovers. The green beans seemed undercooked and limp, but I don't know if that's from steaming in the box. (I miss the days when it was expected for all Chinese restaurants to include white rice instead of charging $3-6 per individual bowl... but that's not Holly's Mandarin's fault.) I think this food could have been greatly improved if we were able to eat it fresh but they only do take-out at this time.

They say it's take out only but they let us sit with the other patrons that were there. They seat with reservation but made an exception. The waitress was really nice & the food came out quickly & was tasty. I was full but still had a small portion left so well worth the price for me

I found a big fat nasty pubic hair in my food here. The server was just as horrified as we were. Yuk.

Wife and I went for a quick Tuesday lunch and had Jook and Fun. For the Jook, we had Fish Filet Jook with Chinese Doughnut for dipping. It was nice, hot, and not runny with slice of fresh fish, although I prefer my fish skinless. For the Fun, we had Beef and Mushroom Cheong Fun that had smooth beef and shitake mushrooms that you can taste. Gum Kuo is the place to go for fresh, silky, rice wrapped rolls. Iconic for Oakland Cheong Fun. Overall, glad they're still around for quick comfort food. Service is multilingual so no need to worry about ordering. They get DT Oakland office peeps although the office crowd has dwindled post-COVID and the rose of remote work.

There were folks waiting for their order so I just asked them if they were in line and they actually ordered already. The staff were super busy but did their best! I ordered three porridges and the fried dough stick. Used my credit card. Then i waited maybe about 8-10 minutes. I love the hustling nature of the restaurant. It gave me nostalgia to see the uncles chopping poultry, the aunties making rice rolls! The porridge were delicious. Dough sticks were soooooo crispy and I loved dipping it into my porridge.

This was my experience with pretty much every dish I ordered on a recent trip to Yu Yu Za Zang. I'll admit this is one of those places I've walked or driven past for years and have always meant to try but just never got around to it. But I finally had an opportunity to drag my cousin/regular dining buddy with me. We ordered Yang Jang Pi (also known as Double Skin in some places), regular jajang (spelled zazang here) myun, and tang sue yuk (beef - which is the traditional Korean meat for this dish). My cousin and I are huuuuuge fans of the Double Skin at Great China in Berkeley, so the Double Skin here had a pretty high bar to reach. We were pleasantly surprised to find it more than held its own. The portions of everything were very generous, and the mustard dressing was nice and spicy. Perhaps the veggies were not quite as crunchy as Great China's, so not as much of a variety of textures, but this Yang Jang Pi was still delicious, and I still think about it days after our visit. The jajang (zazang) myun was also very generously portioned and pretty tasty. I haven't had any in Oakland in a while, so hard to say how it compares, but I would definitely eat it again. The beef tang sue yuk was incredible. Again, large portion, perfectly crispy outside, tender beef inside, and one of the best sweet and sour sauces I've ever had with this dish. The vibe is simple and clean; nothing fancy, but I went for the food, so I was fine with that. The service was also friendly and fast. There were barely any people there on a Saturday evening, which made me sad, because the food really is good. I can't wait to try the rest of their menu. They also have soju and beer. Although Hanshin Pocha next door is popular, I could see Yu Yu Za Zang being a decent spot for delicious, very reasonably priced food that one can share with friends while having a couple of rounds of drinks. And in this economy, aren't we all looking for a good deal?

The building itself is so unassuming, you'd never expect a great dim sum place to be here! Came on a Saturday mid-afternoon, and fortunately, did not wait too long for a table. My partner and I definitely ordered TOO much for just us two, but we wanted to try an assortment of things! The standouts were their rice noodle roll w/ crispy shrimp, siumai, and hargow. Their siumai and hargow were so plump and juicy! Usually they're tiny at dim sum spots. Everything else was good as well! We even took some home to our families.
