This was our first time trying this place, and I'm super glad we did! We ordered delivery online, and someone called back to check with our allergy notice. He made some changes to the dish to accommodate us, and the meal arrived in record time! And even with the delivery charge, the bill wasn't very high at all. Ok, let me start with saying that the food at Honduras Kitchen was actually pretty good. Honduran food seems to be similar to Cuban food with lots of plantains, beans and rice on most dishes. Service was decent, but the atmosphere wasn't really anything to write home about. NOW, let me tell you what happened after our dining experience there.. The next day the 5 of us that ate there all woke up with some form of food poisoning and were sick for at least the next 24 hours. We notified the health department, but I feel they really haven't looked into it. All I can say is that the Honduras Kitchen will never see any of us again. read more

I have never had such incredible food as I did here. Friday night got there about 6:00pm. Parking is kind of hard to find but well worth it. My wife and I chose the Bisteak Encebollado. Came to us presented beautifully everything on that plate was fantastic. It was not to busy when we arrived one waitress but then it got packed real soon and another waiter helped. I bid on a gift card during a KPCC fundraiser, and this afternoon my husband and I finally headed up to Long Beach for a very early dinner. The restaurant interior is modest, but they have made the effort to dress it up with linen tablecloths, photographs of Honduras, and a lovely large mural of the country. Our server was friendly and attentive. She was great at explaining the different dishes and cooking methods. We received absolutely stellar service. And then there was the food. Oh boy, was it full of flavor! Their tortilla chips come in a small basket with Honduran salsa (on the chips but they are not soaked) and a dry cheese that I think is a type of goat cheese. A completely unique flavor from the sauce and cheese make these an absolute must! I ordered the fried yuca with ground beef, and my plate came with pickled onions (super!), shredded cabbage, and diced veggies (like pico de gallo). Imagine a tostada served on top of seasoned french fried--only ten times better! My husband ordered the steak and veg on a skewer, which came with shredded cabbage, rice and refried beans (better than any I've ever had), and ripe grilled plantains. He loved everything (especially those chips!), including his passionfruit juice drink. Before or after your meal, you could also spend some time doing a little shopping at the cool antiques and thrift stores on this small stretch of Fourth Street. read more

Before writing this, I asked myself whether this place actually merits a full 5 stars. After eating here 4-5 times, I feel confident about my 5-star rating for a few reasons. First, the young lady who served me is a kind host (I feel like a fool for not catching her name but I will update this review later). She makes good suggestions and is happy to share her knowledge of Honduran food. This place has made me wonder why I slept on plantains for so long. I really recommend fried plantains with the pollo mesapa (the best dish I've had here so far). I feel like I can still taste it when I think about it. On weekdays, the baleadas are a hearty appetizer for a good price. They also have a cool of teas (I recommend the passion fruit). This place is really chill. They've set up some cool outdoor seating for COVID, though I look forward to dining inside again. My wife and I leave here feeling full and happy. read more

Don't let the outside fool you. A group of friends and I came in late one Monday evening. They were closing at 10 and it was around 930 (I know.. we were THOSE people but everything else was closed and we were starving) we made sure to let the waitress know we were sorry and would be in and out as quick as possible. She was very sweet and patient. Said to take our time, made recommendations, and got our round of drinks. I order the steak dish (can't remember what it was called) and it came with rice, beans, and plantains. Everything was SO GOOD! Super flavorful and cooked perfectly. I also am a fan of hot sauce with anything so I asked if they had a hot sauce and she brought one out that was to die for. Super spicy. But oh sooo good. Went for New Year's Day dinner, walked by earlier and it smelled amazing! My nose didn't lie, I had the conch soup and shrimp ceviche. My favorite was the empanadas...omg that place is amazing and unbelievably delicious. The waitress was amazing and helpful with our millions of questions. Went to Honduras kitchen for dinner tonight and was a little disappointed. It started with the staff who only spoke Spanish. I am lucky I can speak some otherwise I am not sure how I could have communicated with them. Upon entering, you immediately feel as if you are at a night club or a pub because is all dark inside with no windows...kinda strange. They were playing music videos on 2 TV's and they were extremely loud and annoying. It killed the atmosphere. The food took about 25-30 minutes to arrive and it was very greasy. The rice was hard! Not good...but I have to admit that the service was very good and for that I am giving 3 stars. For the food I am not sure I feel the same...perhaps 2 stars. Would not go back there nor recommend to anyone. I really wish I would have liked it...oh well! read more

Took forever for food to come out (but still good food). She only had 2 other tables but I think she was cooking and waitressing maybe??? She only checked up on us a few times and would take her time coming back with the check or the box. We did see he hanging out taking to the other customers. She lost the voucher I printed out for her. Just horrible horrible service. So yes... Food is good but service is bad. I'm hoping they bring back the guy from the first time I went... This place is definitely a LB secret! The only downside about the restaurant is no parking (although it was easy to find free street parking) and it's pretty hidden in the sense that you'd walk/drive/bike right past it without ever realizing there's a gem of a restaurant inside (in terms of FOOD, which is all I care about). It had a kick but not too much for me (like most salsas). I ordered a seafood soup (sorry I can't remember what it was called). All I know is, it had coconut milk in it and a bunch of different seafood. It was creamy and delicious. It had crab, mussels, shrimp, conch, fish, and 2 different kinds of plantains. Next time I'm going to get this but probably just get it with crab. The fish (with bones and a fin) kind of startled me (yes i know, I'm so American) when I discovered it at the bottom of my bowl. The conch was good but slightly chewy (but I think that's how conch is). The soup came with rice and it was a delicious combo! My BF ordered the shrimp ceviche. He's a foodie too and hard to please. HE LOVED IT! He also got a Tamarind drink and I tasted it.....sooooo good!!!! Next time I'm getting some Horchata or a Aqua Fresca of some sort. We were told there's some YELP check-in thing where you can get some free taco or something like that if you log into Yelp, but I didn't bother since I was so full and satisfied with what we ordered. Customer service was good the entire time we were there, maybe since it was just two of us in there. We were going to use our Groupon deal originally but saw that their lunch specials and breakfast were decently priced so we decided to save it. Our food was amazing although the beans were salty in all the of our dishes, the fans were blowing in all directions so I was cold the entire time, that was my only issue during my visit. Fantastic meal! Ate here on a Friday night with a group of 4 young kids (who could draw on the paper tablecloth - yay!) and 4 adults. It doesn't look like much from the outside (one of my companions said it looked like a cross between a liquor store and a barber shop), but it has a charming interior, helpful, friendly staff, comfortable ambiance, and delicious food! First of all - a bucket of 6 beers for $20?! Yes, please! Great beer selection, including Honduran beers and Modelo, etc. Kids meals are unique (authentic?), meaning not the usual hamburger, realistic portion size, and affordable (like, $4). I had spicy arroz con camarones (shrimp and rice), served with cabbage (yum!) and white bread toast (could have skipped that). It was delicious! Lots of well-seasoned shrimp and a heaping pile of rice. Make sure to ask for the very spicy homemade salsa. Other meals were not as memorable, but all were good and at least seemed authentic (to this non-Honduran person). Wait staff was attentive without being pushy, and very friendly. Found out later one of them is the owner's son. There is definitely a particular pride and enthusiasm you don't see at more corporate type restaurants. Even the chips before dinner were unique and memorable - this is not like any place I've ever been. I will definitely be back very soon! read more

I found this place by accident just driving by and thought it would be great. The food is great, prices are reasonable but the only thing I didn't like was the fact that they have no ac but instead just two big fans. I usually come here for the appetizers, but today had a typical Honduran dinner, it was really good. The coffee has improved as well, service is good. You must ask for water and refills of coffee or else they won't bring it, but that's just tradition that's how is done in Honduras, server very nice and polite, place is clean the chips are refresh lyrics made and so are the flour tortillas, do try the baleadas they are a meal alone, over all pretty good food I recommend it. read more
