Amazing place! Our new go-to middle eastern/ Persian restaurant. Been coming here for the past few days weeks, food and service are top notch. Order the eggplant for appetizer, then recommend the beef koubideh, chicken koubideh and lamb shank for your main dish. The tea is also amazing after you've finished your meal. "Javan is back!" Javan cooks up some seriously good Persian food - it is honestly one of my favorite places to frequent on the Westside if I'm ever having a craving, and I actually only first tried here during the pandemic. Everything from start to finish is a fantastic experience - from the actual taste of the meal to the pickup and pay experience along with the customer service. The owner really works hard to make sure you're satisfied with your order and I can't say I've ever had a bad experience here so far. I'm a big fan of the chenje combo and anything with koobideh, and the amount of food they give you in a plate is so worth it. It has the option of coming with heaping pounds of rice, roasted tomatoes and onions, salads if you opt for the substitution, huge slabs of naan-like bread, tadig, and more! It is more expensive than your average place, but the quality and quantity speak for themselves and I would gladly shelve out for this over another place! Support small businesses during this time - I always call in my order by phone or use their direct website. Was here last night with a large group of family. Was seated and took over 10mins to even get greeted by our server. The waiter mentioned that there was no appetizers or bread. After impatiently waiting, one of the older members of our group complained about the lack of service just to be told that they were short staffed. Food finally arrived after 45 mins. 2 of our orders were wrong. Specifically told them half rice/ half salad for 2 of the plates. It was either all salad or all rice. When we told the server he said hell be right back with the correct order but never did. Instead arrived with day old bread. Rice and meats all arrived cold. Uncooked, stiff beef kabob and cold bland burnt flavor for the chicken kabob. Never coming here again. Non of our members were satisfied. Take your business somewhere else. read more

First time Persian food and it was great! We had a family combo of chicken and beef skewers and a starter with eggplant. Both are really tasty! Probably the best service I have received during my time in West LA so far. Appetizers were amazing and our server Alex made sure we were taken care of! They even split a single app into two bowls for us. Portions were huge! We had some leftovers that we took home and left in the fridge for a few days. Amazing food and great service in a beautiful restaurant! The tadigh is to die for!! Best one I've had in West LA. The rice is cooked to perfection - fluffy and flavorful. And all the meats were grilled & seasoned beautifully, with generous portions on each plate. The service here is excellent, and all the staff were attentive and welcoming. My friend brought in an ice cream cake for my husband's birthday and they even lit a candle and sang for him! The people here made our intimate celebration feel like a banquet for royalty. The owner was kind enough to give us some of their famous house fesenjun to try out and it was delicious. The chicken, salmon, and steak are all prepared and seasoned very well. Came here a little while ago, and I still think about my dining experience at Javan on a weekly basis. Every dish was consumed with immense and deep flavor, and made my mouth salivate. Service was also spectacular and fast, in a very open and clean restaurant environment. You are doing yourself a disservice by not trying their eggplant, and their dolma's were an ethereal experience that I have never tasted outside of this restaurant. Periodically I would crave for cherry rice so I decided to return to Javan after not having much to eat all day. It was late in the afternoon so there was hardly anyone there with two large screen TVs to keep me company. The dark wooden interior looked even better in the afternoon sunlight, and I noticed they now offer free Wi-Fi even though this is not necessarily the kind of place where you would bring a computer to hangout all day. After trying their fish kebab the last time, I decided to go with their Lamb Kebab with Cherry Rice ($21.95). The kebab was well done and still tender, nicely marinated with lime and saffron, but pieces were smaller than and not as juicy as expected. The cherry rice had good texture and separation, but the number of cherries was moderate with flavor that failed to fully mix into the rice for a better result. The lavosh was not very entertaining, but the veggie kebab was pretty tasty that added a nice caveat to the meal. My water was refilled multiple times, but my server Vahid was not attentive or respectful of my presence as he was looking out the window as we were going over the menu. 2.5 stars for the overall experience. With so many other Persian restaurants in the area, I'm not expecting to return anytime soon. read more

I've been here 6 times since posting my first view(Yes I counted) and I still love this place. Some great memories to go along and I thought it made sense to post yet another update! I visited this gem last night and I absolutely loved it. The owner was sharing that they had just reopened a week and 1/2 ago. My fiance and I ordered a plate of their beef kebab and chicken kebab to-go. As we waited for our food, we had the opportunity to chat with the owner. He was extremely hospitable from the moment we met. He shared the history of the location and how other restaurants had missed the mark and didn't survive the business. He also shared how Javan is different and how their quality of meat really stands out among the rest. He even included their in-house homemade bread with our to-go order for us to try! It was a wonderful experience getting to know the owner, the restaurant's history and the food. I hope they have a successful reopening and that more people learn about how Javan has reinvented themselves on this part of town. Javan is consistently top notch. I've been coming here & ordering in for years & I always leave happy. Last night, the service was it's usual extra gracious, polite, on top of their game, excellent. Parking at the meters just outside is free after 8pm, which is great. All the food came out fast & was delicious: Appetizers: Hummus - super creamy, yum! Kashk Bademjan - my FAVE! This warm eggplant dip topped with caramelized onions & a yogurt sauce is the BEST! Shirazi Salad - cucumbers, tomatoes, herbs, in a light vinaigrette - yum! Cucumber yogurt dip - creamy, refreshing, herby, yum! Lavash bread, butter & raw onion are always on the table & are perfect to eat with all the dips. Mains: Lamb shanks - I ordered 2 sides of their long, slow-cooked lamb shanks in the most delicious tomatoey brothy sauce ever. I was behaving myself with carbs tonight, but otherwise their cherry rice is amazing with the sauce! Veggie kabobs - a gorgeous plate of two grillled zucchini, bell peppers and onions (ordered from the side dishes as well) My friends had: Boneless Chicken Kabob - a huge portion of fluffy rice, and the most moist & perfectly marinated delicious breast of chicken pieces, with bell peppers and a perfectly grilled tomato Lamb Kabob Combo - one skewer of the yummiest marinated lamb chops, and one skewer of seasoned ground beef kabob, served with another huge portion of fluffy rice and perfectly grilled tomato Dessert: Persian Ice Cream - this cherry-topped, saffron and rose, pistachio-studded soft ice cream is always my FAVE!! This place is pretty tasty. I ordered the chicken kabob and I was able to try the filet mignon kabob as well. The meat was so tender and juicy on both items. I also requested the spiciest sauce they had and it wasn't as spicy as I wanted it to be. But you can ask for that if you want some extra flavor. We had a bottle of Pinot Noir as well that was mediocre. I do not remember the name, unfortunately. The interior is nice for elder peeps. It's a rather large restaurant so you don't necessarily need to book reservations. I strolled into Javan with my date on a Friday night. It was a little after 4:30 when we arrived and I was surprised to see that there were already diners. Javan has a lot of square footage. It has a full bar and a hearty menu. We ordered the lamb kabob with herb rice and the chicken kabobs with lentil rice ($48+). The chicken combination comes with two types of chicken. One was a little dry but the other was very tender. The lamb was seasoned perfectly and surprisingly moist even though it was well done. You are comfortable walking in here with jeans on or a party dress. The prices are also a little better than other places. I am a fan of their cherry rice! It is a little on the sweeter side, but it is delicious! I love their Loubia polo and white fish too! The fish was perfectly cooked. You can't go wrong with the dishes. The reason they don't have 5 stars from me is that I wasn't a fan of their appetizers. Their Tahdig (crispy rice) dishes are not how Tahdig should be. It was too soggy and not crispy. Maybe I'll ask for the sews on the side and not on the rice. Their Burani (yogurt and spinach) was decent but my dad and I did not enjoy the Asheh Joe (Barely Soup). It was not to our tastes, I guess. Those are the tiniest issues though and very personal to your tastes. Try everything at least twice is my motto! I dig tahdig! (Wonk! Wonk!) If you don't know what tahdig is, let me tell you! It's an appetizer that consists of a thick layer of cooked rice with a crispy bottom topped with a delicious stew. Here at Javan, they have several stews to choose from. We picked the beef stew that had lentils and wonderful spices. The combination of the stew and tahdig was a wonderful flavorful experience. And eating Persian food, it should always be a wonderful experience! Javan is no exception! I must tell you, I LOVE Persian food. Wow. I'm surprised that I haven't already reviewed Persian food before! Why do I love Persian food? First of all, Persian hospitality can't be beat! They will bend over backwards to please their guests. I have experienced this when visiting homes of Persian folks and a few other places. And here at Javan, it's no exception! I walked in and was readily greeted. They were happy to assist! But I told them I was waiting for a friend. When my friend showed up, they came again to assist and we were immediately seated. Not even a minute later, a basket of sangak (Persian flat bread) yummy butter, and glasses of water were presented to us. When asked if we wanted anything else to drink, we took advantage of the check-in special for a glass of house wine, using the Yelp app! If it weren't for the wine, I would have opted for some Persian tea. :) It took us a while to figure what to eat because they had so many delicious options! Hearing that they serve huge portions, my friend and I decided to share two dishes: the tahdig with beef stew and the shirin polo with baked chicken. I already told you about the tahdig, which we finished quickly. Like I said, "I dig tahdig!" As for the their shirin polo and chicken dish, we just couldn't stop eating it! It was incredibly delicious! Shirin polo is "sweet rice" but not like a rice pudding. It's a rice dish cooked with saffron, cardamon, oil (not overbearing), and in this case, orange rinds and almonds or pistachios (I think). It was wonderful! And the chicken, it was so tender, tasty, and succulent, that the pieces fell off the bone! It was a great accompaniment to the rice dish. Dreamy is probably the word to describe this dish. :) After pigging out, we just didn't have time for dessert. Perhaps next time? Throughout our meal, we had several people come back to refill our water glasses, asked how everything was, and made sure we were enjoying ourselves. There was even a baby grand piano, but it was a guitarist that was providing the live music on Saturday night. Street parking. Food: This Persian restaurant has the biggest selection of different flavored rice I have ever seen for the same dishes (i.e. orange peel with almonds, cranberry, sour cherry, etc). The portions are also generous for the price you pay. 1. Albolo Polo- Chicken (dark meat) with Sour Cherry Basmati Saffron Rice. Big enough for 2 to share with an appetizer. Chicken was tender. The entire rice was covered with the flavor of the sour cherries which were mixed into the rice. I was SO FULL, yet I had to keep eating! 2. Ash Joe- I've had this vegetarian soup at other Persian restaurants and this one was also slightly different and delicious. The large can be split into 2. 3.Homemade Pistachio Rosewater Saffroon Ice cream with sour cherries- Good portion for 2 people. Thicker than Mashti Malone's rosewater ice cream. Flavorful with plenty of pistachios. My friends also ordered lamb and an appetizer dip which were also delicious.
