Loved it here! We came on a Friday evening and they had live music on, the vibe and atmosphere was great. The tacos were great, I could eat some right now. The place is kinda quirky, reminded me of Chuys. Our seats were old fashioned car seats. I visited this location for the very first time for Orlando Burger Week this year. We were welcomed in. The location is in a busier area of Winter Park, easy to miss. The layout is gnarly. I loved all the beach themed decor and this location is also family friendly. The cuisine was delicious. I loved they had meat free options as well. I ordered the Aloha Burger and it was great! This location is near my office and is the perfect lunch spot. They are always quick, efficient, and very nice. The food comes out hot and fresh every time and I've never had anything wrong with my order. (And I usually modify everything, yeah I'm that person) I love that they have a nice big patio that is dog friendly. It was almost 5 hours since I had eaten breakfast and my tummy needed some food ASAP. Since Jimmy Hula was close to work, I made a quick stop here. It was Taco Tuesday (they offer the standard and another for $6) but I was jonesing for a burger so I got the Kahuna in a double which brings two 3oz meat patties tucked into a bun with lettuce, a slice of tomato, red onion diced up, bacon and some sauce. It was greasy in such a spectacular way. I don't think I took a single breathe while devouring it. Side was cajun fries which were crisp and very salty, a touch more than what I should be dipping into the sodium side of foods. 5 stars for a restaurant that should be called Key West North. It took about 9 months living less than a mile away, but we finally checked out Jimmy Hula's. As you can see from the check-ins, we have been back many more times. Located on Aloma between Lakemont and Semoran, Jimmy Hula's is a fun restaurant with a great laid-back atmosphere that will keep you coming back. The restaurant itself looks like it should be on the water. They have that tiki wood shack look that would make Jimmy Buffett feel at home. All of the workers are fairly young and all appear carefree. You walk inside, grab a menu, and wait to order. They have lots of taco and burger options and everything I have tried here has been absolutely fantastic. Some items I would recommend is: tacos - big island, luan, and baja (always get at least 2), burgers - aloha, hulius, and hermosa beach (great burgers and pair well with the cracked corn). Everything is super cheap, so you can order as much as you want without worry (unlike some of those Key West spots). We also heard they have brunch, so we want to check that out as well! Once you get up to the counter, you place your food order and then you get drinks. While the tap beers are good, one of the unique things about this place is they have margaritas on tap! My wife and I were a little suspicious at first, but they are solid margaritas and make your meal extra fun. Overall, Jimmy Hula's is a fun restaurant that provides the island food and atmosphere without the island prices. 5 stars for a great menu, delicious drinks and low pices! Holy guacamole! This place is awesome! I'm mad I didn't come here sooner because I was really missing out. Jimmy Hulas doesn't look that impressive from the outside, but it's tiki bar themed space makes a lot of sense once you try the food. The menu is sort of Key West meets Mexican meets college kid. But I mean that in the best way possible. I had the "cracked corn" appetizer (which is also known as elotes or Mexican street corn) and it was perfect. Best I've had in Orlando and only $3.25!! Definitely get that to go with your entree. As far as the main course, I settled on the Juan Jovi burger. It was crazy good and had an amazing sauce. It was also like $5, so it had a great value. I'm so excited to go back and try something else because everything looked great. Also, the drink options are great! They had a pretty decent selection of craft beers on tap and a much larger bottle selection. However, the star of the show was the Margarita! At first I wasn't sure because she said it was "wine based" but I decided to give it a go after she told me I could add tequila (yes, please!). It was fantastic. I went with a group of 10 coworkers, on my recommendation of this place. My yelp has me listed as a regular here. We all placed our orders as to go so that we wouldn't run out and we sat pretty close to the counter. They brought about 3 of our orders out and then they forgot to bring the rest so we waited about 30 min before they finally gave us our food. Of course it was all cold by that point. I ordered a steak jimmichuri bowl w a friend egg. I was so excited to eat it w an egg. When I finally got it, it was nothing but a disappointment. I was about to let it go but I really wanted an egg on my steak bowl. So I asked if they can make another one but not burnt and showed then exactly how burnt the egg was. They all looked baffled. They had no clue what a non burnt egg even looked like. Finally the manger came over and said it can be done. Great. After about 5 minutes and no egg, we asked for an update and everyone looked clueless. They all said "what egg". What was the point in having a number when you can't track the order smh. I usually love to eat at Jimmy Hulas, but today (07/29/2023 at approximately 11:30) I am absolutely disgusted! I came in for lunch with my son and was immediately greeted by a man on a ladder just inside the main door. He was cleaning an air vent in the ceiling with what smelled like a bleach solution. The air vent was very dirty, dusty, possibly moldy. I could feel mist getting on my skin as I walked by. As a registered nurse for 30 plus years experience, I am very troubled by the fact that this man was disturbing dust particles potentially contaminated with mold, likely releasing spores into the air to be inhaled by customers and employees alike. It is especially upsetting to me that this occurred during business hours when food was being prepared and served. It is very possible that all the food that was prepared and walked past that ladder is contaminated with mold or God knows what else. It is also alarming that the man that was doing the cleaning was not wearing any personal protection equipment. OSHA has very definite instructions on the cleaning of contaminated dust and mold in a public setting and he was not following any of them. Everyone that was in that building on that day is potentially exposed to some dangerous stuff. Cleaning solution not to mention airborne contaminants including mold. How did I end up at Jimmy Hula's Saturday? Because when our guest pulled up to our original lunch choice, Panera, he asked, "Why are we eating at Panera when we could be having tacos?" So we marched across the parking lot to enjoy a California take on a Mexican staple. I had been to Jimmy Hula's years ago when it first opened in Winter Park. I wasn't all that impressed. This time around I was hooked. The tacos range in price from $3-$5. I got the Wipeout and Voodoo. The Wipeout was killer; steak, shrimp, french fries (fries in a taco?! ), avocado and Baja sauce. It was delicious. I got the Voodoo blackened and it had a nice kick to it. Chips come with your taco order. For extra you can add salsa, guacamole, or queso. I got queso. We went out to eat tonight with some of my girlfriend's friends from undergrad. The menu had a ton of taco options along with burgers and other assorted items. Our friend recommended the Johnny Utah which came with pork, pickled, Mac and cheese, and chives. It was delicious, and the portions were very reasonable. Usually I remove pickles from my food because I like pickles by themselves and not as a compliment. However, this was one of very few dishes where I have felt they were appropriate. Besides the terrible and barely noticeable sign near the road, this place is 5 stars and here's why: some of the food is amazing. I first came here on a whim because my parents had just returned from Hawaii due to health reasons and I felt it would be a good feeling considering the restaurant has lots of theme to it. It does look the part. It's got a pretty chill vibe; some interesting seating and what not. Hawaiian and surf decor on the walls, stickers and surfboards... it's totally rad man. I ordered the basic burger, and others in the group ordered the fish taco, a chicken bowl, and the primo fish. The Food: - My burger was pretty average. A two star burger. Not great. The fries I ordered were good however. Everyone else had pretty nice looking food. The burger wasn't average because there was anything wrong with it, it just didn't have much flavor and was kinda boring overall. I'd compare it to a burger I'd make at home being lazy. - The chicken bowl was really really good. Not sure the exact one but it had cabbage and rice and spices and the flavors were impactful. Think of a Chipotle chicken bowl with actual flavor. I don't like cabbage too much but it didn't matter it was just good! - Fish taco I didn't taste - not a big fish eater, like... at all. But it didn't have much meat on it and this person complained that they couldn't even see the meat. The chips were boring and yeah it wasn't a hit; but the fish meat was good at least. - The Primo Fish: this is one of the reasons to come to Jimmy Hula's. This persons sandwich was so good he raved about it and the fish taco person was happy to have a good bite of something good when offered. I could tell by this eater's reaction that it was really good, and it looked really good, but I didn't dare bother the bear while he ate. And then today I happened to go back. I wanted to try the Primo Fish. I don't like fish but it looked really good and had such a good reaction before that I had to take the risk. It was well worth it. It is served hot, with a hot bun, so hot you can't really pick it up without a napkin. The steamy fried white fish was actually perfect, with a very thin but crunchy crust. Combined with the hot bread and many other flavors I knew it was worth it from the first hot-hot-hot bite! For those that like their hot food hot this was amazing. It's a good size portion too and I was full before I finished the whole thing. I'm surprised the place wasn't more busy. They are lacking some passion to really keep the place sparkling and on top of its game. I think that is because their sign sucks. You don't even see it driving by. It doesn't catch your eye. I've passed the place so many times and never knew. So hopefully they get a much better sign for what the place deserves. Or maybe they're always packed and I just haven't been there enough. We will see! The Bottom Line is this place is a 5-star rating for certain food. Their cheap menu items, yeah they kinda suck. Good tacos, good burgers, good fries, good times. Jimmy Hula's is a regular lunch spot for me. I often end up here for casual business lunches. One of the cool things about Hula's is they have something for almost anyone. They have a variety of tacos with some unique combos of flavors. They also have good burgers and fries. They offer street tacos that are a little smaller in size and on corn tortillas. I like the pork option that is pork loin with some cilantro, sriracha and guacamole included. I really like the guacamole. It is a good mix and tastes fresh on all the tacos or by itself with chips. They offer what they refer to as standard tacos on flour tortillas that are a little bigger. These tacos are where the flavor combos can get wild. They offer one that they call The Johnny Utah that has pork loin, bbq sauce, green onions and macaron and cheese. It also includes pickles, but I leave those off. I think I'm allergic to them and by allergic I mean I really think they are disgusting. Pickle in and of itself describes a process, pickling of a cucumber becomes a pickle. No thanks on old cucumbers. They do a good flavor of chimicurri too. They offer a steak taco with the chimi on it and it is really good too. The Bangin' Beef is standard taco beef, onions and Baja sauce. Another wild one they offer is the Kingston. It has jerk chicken (chicken with a kick, not a lousy personality) plantains, cotija cheese, avocado, cheese and their sauce. Not to be outdone is The Wipeout that has steak, shrimp and fries all in one flour tortilla. For dramatic effect I'm starting another paragraph to go over their fish tacos. I've heard fish tacos originated in San Diego and I wouldn't dare compare Hula's to San Diego's as I'm sure San Diegans everywhere would be offended and then I'd have trouble sleeping, but I think they are delicious. I order the blackened fish taco (formerly called the Malibu) now called the standard. The guacamole, pico, cheese and sour cream make an awesome flavor combo. They offer them fried/crispy and although I've never ordered it I'm sure like most things, it is delicious fried. I'm sorry San Diego, but Hula's has your number. They offer a combo and that is worthwhile because you can get some creamy queso and a drink with your tacos. The queso goes great with the chips that are included with your tacos. All this and I haven't mentioned the burgers and fries yet! The burgers are done on a griddle top/fried and they are solid. They offer burgers that come with a fried egg (Burnt Reynolds) pork and honey ham (Juan Jovi) and grilled pineapple (Aloha). Wild combinations with good flavor. They offer fries with a mojo seasoning that are good and for those fry blasphemers, there are sweet potato fries too, but be warned every time you order sweet potato fries anywhere an Idaho gold potato hears that Sara McLaughlin shelter music come on and it sheds a tear. And the biggest announcement of the review is saved for last. When I first started coming to Hula's they offered Pepsi products or the P word as I refer to it. This was always a major disappointment at the end of your order. Hula's attendant: Would you like to add a drink? Me: Sure, I'll have a Coke. Hula's attendant: Pepsi ok? Me: Maybe, is Monopoly money ok to pay with? Hula's attendant: Puzzled look Me: Water is fine, just don't get it too close to the Sierra Mist. Management is obviously well aware of the initial mistake and they are now reaping the benefits of this wise change. They probably shipped all their P word overstock over to Uzbekistan where the donation was promptly sent to the local dump. Kudos for making this change! There are more menu items worth exploring, but I covered most of my go-to's for a solid lunch. Jimmy Hula's: Disappointing for such a prime location If real estate is what businesses look at before venturing in, Jimmy has it. Located on busy Aloma, across from the busy shopping center that has Whole foods, Jimmy has a very inviting feel from the exterior. You didn't have to twist my arm hard enough to visit them just weeks after they opened. Unfortunately, that's where the fairy tale ends. I did my homework and I was aware that a) you had to order up at the counter and b) the prices are cheap. So, even knowing this, how could the experience be so lacking? First, the math- Teriyaki Beef Taco with Creamy Teriyaki Sauce $3.29, the El Diablo Burger $6.59, the Veggie Jim-Bob kabob $4.99, and a South Beach Fruit Salad $6.29. LandShark beer was $3.25 a bottle. The Teriyaki Taco was modest. Too modest. Heck, I couldn't even see the SMALL pieces of beef that were blanked by shredded cabbage! To even get an appropriate picture for this, I intentionally kicked off some of the cabbage in the corner of the taco to show you the mediocre quantity of beef at the very bottom. Which begs the question- when everyone else is focused on satiating portions, why doesn't Jimmy charge... say, $5 for a taco and actually make it decent? I guess I could've order more than one, but it was my first time and biting into it didn't make me crave another either- nothing exceptional, in short. The El Diablo was laughable- the menu states 'try it if you dare'. LOL. People accustomed and looking for spicy options will add MORE HOT SAUCE upon being seated. And if the adjoining picture for this one doesn't really bring it home- it was such a lonesome little burger- there were no automatic sides for a burger at $6.59. Even so, I would have been fine if the burger was stellar- unfortunately, the jalapenos looked like fried okra. The burger was creamy but there should have been more Sriracha especially if you're going to advertise spiciness. The onions, lettuce, and tomato were fresh and juicy (bear with me, I'm trying to find a silver lining in all of this). I think they got away with murder on the kabob. ONE PIECE OF PINEAPPLE PER SKEWER. Really? There's a difference between being cheap versus being A CHEAPO. Wait, there's more- the small portions of rice wouldn't even satisfy your 10yr old. The teriyaki sauce drizzled over did tie the dish together, but I really wish their kabobs were more substantial rather than just cut up pieces of grilled onions, bell peppers, tomatoes. Is their creativity so myopic? The South Beach Salad was tasty. FINALLY. The ingredients sang in my mouth and it was truly delicious. It would have been a bonus if the dressing was in-house... but I can bet you money that it was Ken's Raspberry Vinaigrette that was just poured out of a tub or jar. IN A NUT SHELL- This place is tragic in it's portion size. At the day that I was there, they were out of take out menus and Iced Tea. Being in this industry, this didn't bother me but others may state that they should have their business in order before opening to the public. Also, the flavors are not spectacular. A triple sucker-punch. For a more satiating lunch, Tijuana Flats across the street will more than fill 2 people up on $26 (my bill at Jimmy's). Unless they regroup their vision, charge a little more, and put something more promising, I don't recommend it. All this, plus tip, gasp!.......$20! My eyes have been opened. Not to mention that the atmosphere here rules, everything from Bob Marley to 311 playing on the speakers. Now, some may say that only one taco a piece isn't enough. Its a double-edged sword here, where 1 taco (incl. tortilla chips) may leave you a little hungry afterwards, but two would stuff you, so make your own call there. ;-) read more

Service was OK and the atmosphere was fine. We sat at a car seat type booth, although I think it can use some fixing up as it was falling apart a little. The Food: I got a Jr. Kahuna combo with Monterey jack cheese, grilled onions and sweet potato fries. The hubs got a Luau taco and a Voodoo taco. We also got a cabo trio. There was nothing special about the tortilla chips, guac and salsa. The hub liked his fish tacos, but nothing amazing about them. Now, the only thing I asked on my burger other than the cheese and grilled onions was some ketchup. I didn't say a lot of ketchup or really specify the amount, I assumed like most people that some ketchup means a sensible sprinkle of sauce. When my burger came and I lifted the bread my hubby said he saw my face and mood completely change. My burger was swimming in ketchup like a little brown raft in the red sea. I said, OK whatever I'll try it. Alas, the burger floated around lettuce and bun like a hockey puck on a newly zambonied ice rink. It was impossible to eat without looking like a heathen with red sauce dripping down my fingers. The sweet potato fries were meh. A little to thickly cut for my taste. That burger though; I usually like a little more burger with my ketchup. The hubby told the manager who apologized but didn't do much else. Casual restaurant that is perfect for a quick bite. Order your food at the counter, then it will be brought to your table when ready. They had a fun craft beer selection and a menu that had a nice variety. The star of the menu seemed to be the fish so that's what I went with (see picts). I was happy with both of my tacos, but not blown away. When we arrived shortly after they opened it was empty but by the time we left the line was to the door. Service was friendly. The decor is bright and surfer-ish. They took what looks like old car seats and converted them into booths. These booths definitely need a face lift as they are worn and torn down to the innards. When people ask me what my favorite restaurant in Orlando is... I usually reply Jimmy Hulas. I know, they probably mean something like Luma, or Citrus, but I stand by my choice. I've been to Jimmy Hulas probably 50 times over the past couple years. Every single time I've been there the food (mainly fish tacos for me) has been consistently good or great. The people who work there are always friendly and fairly efficient. THEY PLAY REGGAE! Did you hear that? They play Reggae music in the restaurant all the time. The Reggae goes so incredibly well with the fish tacos and pretty damn amazing selection of beers. Yes! They consistently have a great selection of medium priced (as well as premium) beers that you'd maybe be hard pressed to find at Total Wine. Is it fast food? Well, sort-of. But you can get a couple fish tacos, a bucket of 5 craft beers and sit outside on a beautiful afternoon and let the stress of a day at work drift away. I really can't ask for anything more from a moderately pieced place like Jimmy Hulas. I have been to both locations... University (near UCF) and the Aloma location. While the two restaurants are laid out completely different, I really like the Aloma spot better. I like their outdoor seating and chill vibe. The UCF location does have a real bar inside, but the outdoor seating there really feels like an afterthought where it feels like the restaurant was built around the idea of outdoor seating on Aloma. It can get quite busy, but it'll be worth the wait. I should be honest that I've never eaten anything outside of the fish tacos and some of the sides. They do have a broad range of additional food like burgers, sandwiches, bowls etc. Love the Epic, Malibu and Big Island tacos. The Big Island was a late arrival for me in that it took a while before I tried it. It's become one of my faves because of the combo of sweet and tangy taste. read more

From the moment we walked in, they directed us to their "bucket of menus", ID'd me, and asked if I wanted a side. I also noticed they no longer have the 3-screen menu disaster. (Jimmy Hulas, if you read this - THANK YOU!). I have to commend them on the consistency of food presentation and portioning. They do have a shelf for the baskets and clearly displayed trash cans, again thanks! Since they opened I have seen a steady stream of business for this location and even though they now have to compete with Panera, I strongly hope they last. I still find myself craving their burgers and tacos... but also maybe for having the random taco sauces become the chip dipping sauce. Maybe that was planned, maybe not. Hidden gem in Winter Park. Nice atmosphere and the food had great flavor. The fries my boyfriend had were a little salty and I didn't realize how much of the sauce (if your burger has sauces/dressings be mindful) they put on the burger. My sweet potato fries were perfect. I have a new taco joint.. Hawaiian style tacos are the way to go! My first time here and definitely NOT my last!! I knew it would be perfect when the sign said "Soup of the day: Beer" My first thought-- it can only get better from here and it did.. You order, sit, and they bring the food out to you. The food comes out fast and as its ready so don't expect everything at once. We got 4 tacos, a side, a salad, a soda and a beer for $29 and some change.. Not too shabby and totally worth every penny. The 4 tacos were the voodoo, malibu, bangin beef and the chicken standard.. The standard was good but so plain after the 3 other tacos we had-lol. The rest were Fantabulous!! The side we got were the zucchini fries and the sauce served with them was super delicious. And the side ceaser salad was excellent! The beer selection is 97% craft..mostly bottles with 4 draughts. I got Kona Firerock on draught since it's my fave of the Kona selections..and it matches perfectly with the Hawaiian - esk theme!
