30 dollars for a microwaved tofu lasagne that tasted like it came from an Amy's box, some veggies with a very bland cashew dipping sauce (would plain tahini have been all that hard?) a chia-Açaí pudding and an iced tea. And the service? A confusing 4-5 trips to the counter with a mistaken first order and multiple name/order number interactions around a crowded, poorly-laid out space. I can't comment on the coffee as I was too annoyed to stay. We went to Everyman for espresso, which totally rules. As for the pros, the sheep toys decorating the walls are cool. I also noticed that an oddly large percentage of the female customers were dressed like Chewbacca--fur coats, fur hats, fur boots. If you're looking for a coffee shop in Tribeca, this is a great spot. I was looking for a place that had hot chocolate so I could wait for my husband to get off work and passed by this cute place. It looks real dark from the outside so I wasn't sure if there was seating. It's a long cafe so plenty of seating on the side. The hot chocolate was nice - not too rich and sweet but just right. If you like your chocolate blazing hot and super rich and chocolaty, then you won't like it. I think it was under $4 for the chocolate - can't remember but I said it wasn't THAT bad of a price considering the area I was in. I grabbed a seat and hung out for a bit. My gripe was that this place was dark. Hard to see or read unless you grab a seat closer to the counter where there is more light. Cute shop, although probably not my cup of tea (or coffee, rather). I have been here a few times because of the convenient location. I sometimes have meetings in the neighborhood, and will stop by. The espresso is delicious. The food is good too. But everything takes forever. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese one time and it took at least 10 minutes. There was probably one other person ahead of me. I have waited at least 5 minutes every time for my coffee, regardless of what I order. I could probably be okay with all of these things, if the service wasn't so terrible. I'm not looking for 5-star, white-glove service but all the employees seem so uninterested and dissatisfied at being here. Kaffe is my go-to for a bougie coffee pick-me-up during the work day. Must tries are their coffee of the day (any day), their concubine tea (they will write the word "concubine" before your name on the cup, making you the newest member of the Kaffe harem), and the delicious buttermilk biscuit with jam. I get "reprimanded" for taking coffee breaks, so I don't usually sit inside the store, which seems a little dim but oddly cozy. During less frenetic times of day, I can imagine that it would be a lovely place to just sit and chat. Décor is adorable! Yes, the sheep are for sale. I asked a barista and the going rate is $85, about $75 more than I would be able to pay for it. But apparently each one is different, as they're hand-carved, and you get to pick which one you want to take home! All in all, a great place to treat yo'self to coffee during the work-day when you want to pay almost twice as much as you would in the cafeteria or from the breakfast trucks. read more

Relaxing and low-key coffee shop. The decor is rustic, minimalist. Hardwood floors, long wooden tables and square stools and benches and plain beige walls. There's plenty of seating and we easily found a table. The matcha latte is great and they add plenty of green tea powder. They also have great latte art; something we all need a little more of in our lives. Baristas were friendly. Jam cookies are also a definite plus! We found the place in search of a sheep-themed cafe. Although there are shelves with sheep figurines haphazardly lined against the walls, it was a more relaxed definition of a theme and I would keep looking if you're in the mood for a more enthusiastic commitment. It's very dark and every table adorned with candles. It adds a cool atmosphere compared to the typical coffee shop but it makes it a little difficult to see while reading or working. read more

When I walked into this swanky, low-key coffee shop, I thought I had mistakenly stumbled into a hipster restaurant. People were sitting at low tables by candlelight at three in the afternoon. The surprisingly tall wood-covered walls (a couple of which had rows and rows of stuffed sheep) made me feel like I was in a billionaire's barn. The patrons either celebrities, gorgeous, well-dressed, rich...or at least two out of four of those things. I was a bit confused by the ordering process. I *think* there were menus, but I just breezed right by them and felt like an idiot when I got to the counter and had no idea what to order. I ended up getting a $4 iced tea rather than a $6 coffee (which I understand has beans that are ground-to-order). I had to sweeten it myself, which was a bummer, but there was simple syrup at the counter, which was awesome. My iced tea tasted like someone had put orange peels and rose petals in water. In other words, it had both a lot of taste and not much taste, which was an odd combo. But I ended up really liking it. I can't say that I would make a huge effort to return, but if I were in the neighborhood, I would certainly stop by, if only to people-watch! read more

Too sweet! Before ordering, I asked the girl behind the counter if there was any sugar in the savory New Quinoa wrap. She said, "No." Well, there was, and plenty! Great place to study. Coffee is good but overpriced. Food is ok and way overpriced. No wifi. If you ask they say they can't give you the password? Sometimes it's cold and the bathrooms defidently do NOT have insulation. It's NY. It's winter. Get insulation. Turn the heat up. For $7 a cup of coffee and $15 for a sandwich you can afford heat. Staff is very pleasant which is refreshing for the neighborhood and for the hipster vibe of the place. You'd expect them to be pretentious but they're not. A-OK is the name of the game here. Love the look and the vibe of the spot. Note: I didn't have any coffee here, so I can't rate them on their specialty. Walked in looking for a lite bite and saw some Summer Rolls (they call them Pad Thai Salad Rolls, filled with rice pad thai noodles, spring roll wrappers, rainbow of salads, mint, lime, miso, cashews, cilantro, jalapeño, olive oil, w/ Lime Cilantro Cashew Dressing) in the fridge and grabbed it. They were ok. Standard summer roll, sans tofu/shrimp/meat. The problem is when they rang up at almost $12. When you can grab a turkey sandwich with goat cheese, bacon and cashew pesto for $11, or a breakfast burrito with all the fixin's for $9, I'm not sure how they can realistically charge that much for what amounts to a side salad in a wrapper. Call it 'the surroundings, the rent, the xyz' this is highway robbery. No wonder it didn't have a name or price tag on it, people would leave it in the fridge. Anyway, like I said, the place looks cool and is probably a great spot to grab coffee and crush some work or talk with a friend. Just remember to check the price tag on some of the items or eat elsewhere. read more

This 'kaffe' is one of my favorite stops for coffee in Tribeca. They offer a relaxed and friendly service that is a staple of any coffee house. A pourover comes at the standard price of $5, but it is absolutely on par with any $5 coffee I've had in the city. For me, what I really enjoy about Kaffe is the versitility they offer: you can pop in for a quick espresso, lunch or get some work done while having a coffee. All of this comes in a laid-back (and slightly dark) environment. The only area for improvement would be in lighting design. It is a shotgun-type layout and offers a narrow walkway relative to the length of the place. Possibly adding more light could help, but it could lose some of its character. Either way, I visit weekly for a pour over or other treat - definitely worth your time if you're nearby. read more

The atmosphere is cool, very much like a place where a latte costs upwards of $4 and makes Starbucks look like a bargain. The coffee was alright--I had a plain black coffee. I've come here for some meetings and found that it's not the ideal place to talk--it's noisy and you can't really hear too well even when sitting across from one another. I had to raise my voice frequently in order to be heard over the din of coffee machines, chatter, and trendy music. I was visiting from out-of-town and was suggested I visit Kaffee during the breakfast hour I was there. I thought the rustic decor and sheep everywhere was charming. I was warned that the place was very dimly lit, so it had more of a dinner atmosphere for a coffee place. Between my husband and I, we ordered the ham/egg/cheese croissant, breakfast burrito, oatmeal, a cappuccino and a pour over coffee. Overall, the food was great! However, the service was far from that. When we ordered the food, the barista interrupted me and hastily gave my credit card back to me. It started getting busy around this time but I felt no reason for the rush. We felt some attitude behind the counter from the staff. My pour over took forever and only received it until we finished eating our food. By then the pour over was getting to room temperature. The barista apologized and said that he would come the pour over, but after checking my e-receipt, he did not. It's unfortunate that I was referred this place from a local and did not have the same experience that she has. I would not recommend this place. read more

I am a MealPal customer and used this place to pick up my Caesar Chicken Salad order here between 1:15PM and 1:30PM today. I noticed being the only black male customer in this place and a black female cashier brought me to the MealPal sign to scan my Pick Up reservation. It must have been her first time since she forgot to turn on the switch to process my order. I received my order after the time has run out and a white female clerk gave me a free drink business card to "compensate the guilt". The Caesar Chicken Salad was great but the service was slow and crappy to me as a professional black man. Had I been a wealthy, Caucasian, or a female then I would have been greeted and thanked.
