We used to like their food and service. But when we returned today after many months, we waited and had to ask a couple of times to be attended to. The family behind us finally left as no one came to take their order. When we finally got our food, the French toast was cold, the bacon was not only not crisp, but in some places uncooked. The hashbrowns had to be sent back because they weren't crisp, as requested. They came back crisp but this time dripping with cooking oil. As we left we also noticed the fan blades were filthy. The main waitress rarely ever came back to check on the table, and I had to flag down waitresses from different stations to help with issues, like missing side dishes. The pork sausage patty was undercooked, and upon request for further cooking, it returned pressed extremely flat, almost burned and overcooked to the point of being inedible. The place is a a smaller joint but there were a few open booths. Ordered a "build your own omelet" with chorizo bacon onions and cheddar, came with toast and hash browns. I can't help to think that this establishment doesn't like to help minorities. This is the third time coming here and all the servers look like they "have to" help us. My little one turned 2 and we know how much he loves the pancakes here so we decided to get take out (Covid times) everything came out as good as it was in the restaurant! Eggs Benedict never disappoints, yolk is perfectly poached and the hollandaise sauce is perfect! My hubby always gets the chicken fried steak, so crispy and the gravy is so comforting! My mother in law got the steak and eggs and she really enjoyed that as well. My boys shared the dollar pancakes and ate all of it! Typical american restaurant with american food and great customer service. I've been here a few times now and the portions never disappoint. The portions are always huge! There was no wait and the host seated me right away. She was the only semi- friendly face in this diner. Employees do not observe masking here so are the guests. With regards to masking, I am not sure how to feel about it. Just no droplets on our food we hoped. SERVICE: We waited about 20 mins to get attention and another for our food. We had to flag our server just to give our order and each time we lack something on our table. She only seem to focus on the center of the diner. Not the people seated by the window. On this case (we also ordered oatmeal but we had to ask for spoons-common sense is rare nowadays). She arrives at the table like her soul just left her body. No sort of hospitality. Me and my friend are not nitpicky. We tip well and we talk to our servers everywhere we dine at with politeness and kindness but our waitress doesn't seem happy to serve us. Even if I smile at her, she gives me a blank stare but when she cleaned up other tables, she was friendly. Not sure because they were seniors, or White like her and we are the only Asians in the diner at the time or what. It is hard to assume. Never checked on us and gave me sausages instead of bacon. FOOD: Same mediocre breakfast. It wasn't warm anymore. Especially our oatmeal coz we had to wait for our waitress to tell her we needed spoons. My friend didn't finish her plate. So that summed it up. I didn't want to complain about my "bacon" which was served as "sausages" because I don't want to piss my server for calling her out for it lol. Sometimes I come and we're waited on quickly, have our food within 20 mins of sitting and everything great! Other times, like today, we waited about 30 mins after being sat to have our orders taken. The group next to us was brought their check before they even got their food??? I know it can get busy but the neglect is completely avoidable. It's small but has a good amount of seating and the seats are spaced out nicely. The staff was friendly and took our order pretty fast. I ordered a coffee and the Country Benedict. The coffee was really fresh and refills were plentiful. The Country Benedict was really good. Here is their description of what it is. "It's Open faced biscuits topped with our homemade country patty sausage, two eggs any style country gravy and served with your choice of potatoes or seasonal fresh fruit." It has always been my go to place a really good breakfast , possibly the best breakfast place in orange county, I need to find a new place now, at least for chicken fried steak. The gravy that came with the chicken fried steak seemingly was nothing but water and flour , and the flour wasn't even fully cooked, you could see right through it, and it was sad and pathetic. Paul's place should not be making better gravy than Kimmie's. Oh, it was supposed to be sausage gravy, but I could discern no trace of sausage or any kind of fat in the gravy much less cream or milk.
