Hidden in the back of a liquor store is this unassuming empanada shop. I ordered the spicy beef, nortena (filled with potatoes), and spinach ricotta. They were $3 each, which was a great price. Each empanada was stuffed with delicious fillings. My favorite was definitely the spicy beef since it had so much flavor. I also enjoyed the spicy chimmichuri sauce they came with. Overall, a hidden gem!

Bomb!! Located inside a liquor store so it's kinda hard to find. I asked which were the most popular and tried the spinach and ricotta, spicy beef, and nortena which was potatoes inside! they're fully stuffed and soo warm and delicious especially with their chimichurri sauce which I wish they gave more of! I got 3 for just under $10.

The best empanada was the pineapple and cheese. Though that sounds like a weird combo, trust that it was strangely delicious. That is, if you like pineapple and if you like cheese. I wanted to love the other flavors but sadly, I've had my fill of empanadas and this spot, inside of the liquor store, is a bit odd .

Truly authentic Argentinian empanadas. The place is hidden inside a licor store, the place looks extra clean which I like. The lady that gave me my food was probably the owner and she reminded me that is I place my order directly with her, the food is a little cheaper. The empanada were so good, sorry, didn't take a picture because we ate them so fast.

Thanks to fellow Yelpers, I found this out of the way place that just happens to be fantastic. Don't be deterred by its back of a liquor store location. Heritage House Liquor which has been around as long as I remember. It's one of the old school Tustin places that make Tustin Tustin - not you, Tustin Ranch. I doubt you will find better empanadas anywhere, and they serve quite a variety of them. They serve also sandwiches and pizza, both of which I intend to try based on my experience with the empanadas. There are a few small tables if you want to eat there, but It's mostly take out. My empanadas traveled well on the 15 minute drive home. For my first time, I chose the beef empanadas served, of course, with house made chimichurri sauce. Three of them at $3.00 each were plenty to fill me up. The service is very friendly. Be sure to tip. It's a good place all the way around.

Excellent food. Incredible empanadas. Ordered the beef, spicy beef, Arabic, and pineapple. Good service. A few tables to sit down and eat but mostly to go. It's in the back of the liquor store. Nothing fancy. Will be back to try other things on the menu. read more

Their ham and cheese empanadas and corn empanadas are the best! Also their chicken milanesa are delish! I grew up in S. America so I missed their food from time to time. Its always good to have your home town food around you even though you are far away. read more

Great empanadas, call the restaurant to order. It's notably cheaper - there's a website that seems official that isn't and is charging waaaayyy more than they do. As of today it's $30/dozen which is a totally fair price. That being said, the empanadas here are pretty great. Spicy chicken is a favorite, the Arab has a nice sourness/lemon flavor to it. Spinach ricotta, sweet beef, all good. Worth the trip. read more

The chicken was very rubbery and I wouldn't recommend this to anyone! I was honestly hoping they would have a chicken parm sandwhich, but I guess I got this instead, which left me very unsatisfied! This place is really close to my work and so i decided to finally try it! It's inside the liquor store for those who have trouble finding it, anyway! I usually get the Spicy Beef which i love so much, the chicken ones are ok, not bad. Overall, good empanadas and never have i had issues with customer service. The only annoying thing is this liquor store & surrounding area is always filled with homeless people so it's annoying having to deal with them all the time. Nonetheless, will be back. read more

For $12.00 a portion. Their Locro was horrible. It was a posole with pumpkin. Locro was missing Sausage, tripe, stomach lining, and beans. I mean it was interesting for posole but disappointing as locro. I understand not adding Tripe to the locro since it is impossible to find as most won't sell it. But stomach lining (mondongo/ menudo) that is always accessible. Some places I argentina also don't always use it. So I may even understand that. But it was mostly hominy, had no beans, no Chorizo, and only two types of meat as locro usually has 5. The color was what I remember and the smell. But the taste was not what locro, not pozole but a mixture of both. read more

Definite hidden family owned spot. It feels like these places don't exist anymore (food shack inside liquor store) but here is La Porteña. Looks a bit sus from the outside cause it's basically a liquor store. But once you go in, it's a really nice convenience shop with liquor . They also have wine and other things. The empanadas are in the back kitchen area. They were delicious. We got a dozen with ham and cheese, spinach, Arab beef, regular beef. My fav was the Arab beef. Kids liked the ham and cheese. Had a craving for empanadas after watching the Netflix street food episode on Latin America. Discovered a local Argentinian place in the back of a liquor store that makes probably a dozen different flavors. I called ahead for pickup and the auntie working baked them all to order for me and packed them with love, even labeling the outside of the pizza box with the names of the empanadas. You could see in her smile under her mask these are her labors of love and she is so proud of her work. The boys couldn't wait to eat them while we drove home! I ordered 7 but should have ordered more--we devoured them in about 15 minutes. Delicioso! Chimmichuri and salsa Criollo were on point as well. Got to practice my Spanish. We will definitely come back, and order so much more! read more

An amazing find. Their empanadas are outstanding. Pair it with their spicy chimichurri sauce and you have a great meal. They are located in the back of a liquor store, they dont speak English very well but the empanadas are very good. When you pick up your order, the owner always has a smile and is very sweet. Ive tried some of their other things and they are ok. The star is their empanadas. read more

This is a super original and humble place. There are a few tables at the back of a convenience store. Great for takeout or a quick dine-in. Very friendly owner with an extensive menu plus many Argentine items like sidra, quilmes, and home made chimichurri. The porteña pizza is just like what I used to have in Buenos Aires and the empanadas de carne taste super authentic. They also have a spicy beef version with a nice kick which is turning into a personal favorite. Call and order by phone to avoid the online fees added by the web host. But either way, you have to try this place! read more

Guys! This place is a hole in the wall in the best way possible! At first I thought I had the address wrong because it's a liquor store. However this place is located inside the liquor store towards the back. It's an Argentinian food. Very good! I paid $13 for a very good portion of Milanesa sandwich. I'm stuffed. A counter inside a liquor store. We got a variety of empanadas to-go. It took a while, I assume because they were making them fresh. My favorites were the norteña and the arab. The chimichurri sauce was delicious too, my boyfriend wanted to go back to buy one of their jars. read more

This place was soooooo good I had to go back to back days to try more items! I found this gem randomly looking for a new spot to eat at and my god what a gold mine this is! Tucked in the back of the liquor store is a handful of amazing Argentine cooks enjoying some music, cooking their hearts away and laughing amongst themselves to whatever stories they're telling each other. Then comes out the orders you've placed and let me tell you, nothing disappointed! I tried 3 different types of Empanadas yesterday which were all absolutely incredible and perfectly baked, then I ordered two sandwiches, Steak Milanesa and Lomita, to try a little of each and wow were they delicious! My family shared the rest of them once I got home and wanted more! So today I went back and ordered 3 different pizzas, the Napolitana, Fugazza, and Chimichurri and wow! Brought back flashbacks of being in Argentina when I was younger. I think I found a new go to spot and honestly I'm gonna make my way down the entire menu because I can't imagine anything not being just incredible! read more

Wow! These empanadas are DELICIOUS! We ordered delivery and tried the corn, beef, chicken, spicy chicken, and spinach. My young daughter kept asking for "more please". Each one was unique with incredible flavor. The chimichurri sauce was also very yummy. Will definitely be back for more. Thank you for the delicious food read more

wanted to try a new place and I'm so glad I tried La Portena! The food is delicious and customer service is awesome. One of the items I ordered only had a small amount left, so they added an additional item for free. It was amazing! The pizza is great with lots of topping, the empanadas were super tasty and their Pasta dishes are homemade with lots of flavor. I encourage everyone to give them a try. I recommend it!! Their bread was amazing... fresh as can be and warm. Almost melts in your mouth. read more

Came in here the other day to get some empanadas to-go and to support some small businesses during all this craziness happening in the world! And why not my favorite food and culture? Empanadas and sandwiches de miga were good! But I am mainly pretty bummed that they definitely threw in empanadas that they wanted to get rid of instead of the ones I wanted.. Asked for all beef empanadas but instead got 4 beef, along with random spicy chicken ones and a ham and cheese? A bummer when you want to come and support a business but, they end up blindsiding you! Not sure if it's a new owner or what since the named changed. But, we'll see if I come back! read more

Glad I skipped the can to try the real deal. The cashier offered two different options for the iced Yerba Mate. Regular and Mango. Mango was my choice and it was great! Way better than the can. Empanadas were delicious and filling I chose 3 spicy beef, chicken and the Arab. All were very good. I was full after the second but still devoured the third. Both came with a cup of hearty Chicken Aguadito Soup. And they served complementary bread with a spicy Peruvian green sauce. The service was good. Friendy waitress and quick service. Both of us enjoyed the meal. With two refillable sodas (@$4 each), tax and a 20% tip it came out to about $50.00. Pricey for a casual lunch spot, but the food was well portioned, flavorful, warm, fresh, and the proteins seemed to be of good quality. Clean rest rooms too.

Finally made a trip to the mainland, made off with my daughter's car, and headed down the 22 for some Spanish bread. I ordered a box of 20 STAXX, and six assorted donuts. While waiting for some freshly BAD-baked STAXX, kid behind the counter helped me pick some donuts cuz I was overwhelmed by all this BAD-assery. On a positive note, the patacón con todo was good, chorizo had flavor and the jugo de lulo en agua was good and refreshing. Overall, the experience was just okay. It's disappointing to see a place I used to enjoy lose some of its quality over the years. Unfortunately, for the price, I'll probably go elsewhere for Colombian food in the future

I love their potato, egg, and cheese kolache. Another good flavor is their jalapeño popper or Philly steak. A single kolache can absolutely fill you up so be warned! The workers here don't really smile at you or have customer service. They don't say a lot or are friendly. If you're expected some "hellos" or "how are you?"s. I got a sweet beef, a chicken and a ham and cheese. Pretty decent. The dough was not my favorite but out of other ones I have been trying it was ok. Really liked the chicken. The chimichurri sauce is good as well. The service was nice, the guy who helped us was polite. The place is in the back of a licor store so it's not a place to go take a date or family to sit and eat, it's a little odd.
