    Tzatziki and poached eggs
    Kerry N.

Love that this place is 100% gluten free which is hard to find! The parking lot fills up so quickly, but there is a neighborhood behind you can park in. I will say it's definitely on the expensive side for a brunch menu, I tried the cheesy garlic bread which was delicious and I got the poached eggs with Tzatziki which was good but the ratio of eggs to Tzatziki was very off and I felt like I had so much left on my plate. Still a great place to eat!

First time visiting this all gluten free restaurant & bakery for a birthday dinner. It's clean and spacious, with lots of indoor and outdoor seating with a small private parking lot. Service was a little slow, we had to remind them to get our drinks and desserts a few times. But overall we had a good experience, it's a great place to hang out and chill. The food was fantastic, we enjoyed everything we ordered. For appetizers we got the mezza sampler (Hummus, Baba Ghannoush, Falafel, Cheese Sambousek, Heirloom Tomatoes, Marinated Olives, pita). The pita bread was so good! We also really like the chicken sambousek, I wish they had beef too. The Fattoush salad was refreshing & super tasty, I really liked the pomegranate lemon dressing. For main entrees we enjoyed the Mediterranean Chicken Manoush (pizza). It was a good size, next time we will try the Merguez Sausage pizza. We also really like the Braised Short Ribs and the Mediterranean Halibut. Both dishes were tender & flavorful, just wish they were bigger. We really liked their fresh squeezed hibiscus lemonade and the fresh mint lemonade. Unfortunately the desserts were only ok, they were a little dry. We tried the bread pudding, pistachio rose cake, Nutella jam cookie and carrot cake. We will definitely return to try more items on the menu.

Delicious! My boyfriend and I had a great meal here before a Dodgers game. They have a parking lot but a little crowded. Food was so yummy and is 100% gluten free.

Found this place on Yelp with rave reviews and decided to give it a go for our Saturday brunch during our weekend in LA. The place was fairly busy but we were able to get a table quickly. The menu had an interesting take on Turkish/Greek dishes one may usually find with vegetarian/vegan options too. We got the Lebanese egg pie, the mushroom manush and the Halibut. All three were excellent, they elevated these dishes with a very interesting flavor profile. The Manish especially had an interesting citrus note to it. The Lebanese egg pie was so flaky and delicious - the pie was excellent! The halibut was nice too with pistachio sauce but was my least favorite of all. Check this place out if you're a fan of Mediterranean brunch places - it will not disappoint!

Wow, incredible experience here! We came without a reservation on a weeknight for dinner. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant, calm and felt elevated without being overover the top. I am vegetarian and have celiac disease (strictly gluten-free), and had an absolutely wonderful time with all the food. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu, and everything was gluten-free. This was impressive given the multiple Mediterranean items on the menu that would traditionally have bread. We had the cheese sambeuk appetizer, and it was amazing, warm, soft, large cheese filled pastry dough. I could have eaten just a plate of these for dinner. We shared the arugula and artichoke manoush (flatbread) and the eggplant and falafel for entrees. The flatbread itself was delicious, and the toppings mixed together really well with the coolness from the labneh, acidity from the sundried tomatoes, and freshness of the arugula covered in pomegranate glaze - great! The eggplant/falafel plate was excellent too, the falafel tasted very fresh, and we were able to try multiple delicious dips like the hummus, baba ghannoush in it as well. We had the baklava tart as the dessert - it was definitely a good attempt at recreating some of the baklava flavors, though I think it is very difficult to recreate the adequate flakiness/crunchiness iconic baklava in the gluten-free tart form. Overall, food was fresh, delicious and thoughtful, and we had an excellent experience!

Second time at levant! I had the same server I had last time. I can't remember his name but he's always so nice! The gluten free pita bread was insane. I don't know how they got the texture to be so good! The carrot cake was yummy too. Can't wait to try more

    Cheese + spinach Sambousek

I took my husband here since it's fully gluten free and we had a fantastic time! Its such a cool place inside and they have a nice outdoor area as well - we ate outside. Everyone was so so kind and attentive to us. Truly fantastic customer service! I got the chicken kabob with pita and garlic whip too. We shared the garlic cheese bread and spinach and cheese sambousek. I really liked the cheese one. My husband got the sausage manoush. I could not taste the difference in bread (im not gluten free) at all because it was so soft and fluffy and not dry at all. The only thing i could tell the difference in was the pita, but i still snarfed all my pieces. Excellent hummus and garlic whip! My chicken was not dry at all and a good portion size too. We ended up taking some home! Unfortunately neither of us were wild about the baklava "tart" which i felt bad for my husband because i dont think hes ever had baklava and i love it. I would love to come back for brunch!! Despite its location there is actually parking (gasp). So please make sure to visit here if you love lebanese or are gluten free!

    Grilled Tawook Chicken Sandwich

Ordered DoorDash from here for the first time last night. Here's what I tried: -Grilled Chicken Tawook: the green sauce on here is so good! 10/10 for the sauce but the chicken was a bit too dry. -Garlic Herb Bread: cheesy, crispy edges, buttery goodness. I'm not gluten free but would happily order this over and over. Arrived piping hot and fresh and I'm thinking about reordering as I'm writing this -Chocolate cake: again, I'm not on any dietary restrictions and this cake was still so decadent and rich for a vegan dessert. Absolutely would order again as well! Overall very solid, healthier menu options here - looking forward to trying some of the other items!

This place was delicious and definitely worth the parking hassle. We thought there would be easier parking because there was a parking lot but there are other high traffic businesses in the same lot so it was busy. I found parking on San Fernando and there is an opening that opens to the back area as well with outdoor seating. The staff was really friendly and answered questions. We tried the egg pie, flat bread, fattoush salad, meze plate. The cheese filled bread on the meze plate was my favorite and so good. Also amazing that everything is gluten free?! There were plenty of vegetarian options and delicious drinks. I tried the peach Italian soda and loved that real fruit puree was used. The egg pie was very good but a little dry. You can add toppings to it which may have been better. It was a nice peaceful lunch with friends and great food. Definitely a place to try!

Off The Grill Lamb Kafta ($23) GF pita ($4)

Great stop into LA. Amazing delicious fresh food. **Gluten free restaurant good for those with celiac. Including beer! Also clearly labeled menu for other dietary restrictions. (DF-dairy free, nf-nut free, ef, egg free). Pita bread was gf delicious when warm but hardens when cold, typical of gf breads. Service this day was a little slow, one waiter working all the tables for inside and outside eating. But it was fine, we were in no rush. Waiter was friendly and working hard to care for the needs of the patrons. We sat outside. The weather was pleasant and seating was shaded by the trees. We ordered the mezza sampler ($23), the lamb kibbeh ($18), extra pita ($4), off the grill lamb kafta ($23). Gf beer - ipa. Loved our food. This day we saw people ordering the sandwiches, so I want to try that next time. Parking lot was full but we managed to find a spot. There was security for the parking area so we felt safe leaving our car full of luggage in the back. (Always park at your own risk). Overall great experience and will definitely hit this spot when next in LA.

    Kibbeh
    Mariam I.

Really wanted to like this place: the interior was nice, the menu looked great, but the food was so disappointing. I split the kibbeh and mixed grill plate (chicken, beef) and all the meat was bland and dry. The hummus, mutabal (baba ghanoush) were also quite bland. Will not be returning.

Levant Bistro and Bake Shop is an absolute gem! We came on a Friday night without a reservation (which is recommended) and were lucky to get seated in the bar area overlooking the kitchen. Watching the chefs put together the dishes added to the experience, and the service was incredibly friendly and attentive. Everything here is gluten-free, making it a dream spot for anyone with dietary restrictions but a love for carbs. We had the merguez sausage, a Lebanese flatbread with cheese and sausage, and for dessert, the knafeh and baklava tart--all of which were absolutely delicious. The ambiance was warm and welcoming! The owner, Danny, was so welcoming and took the time to explain the dishes and their incredible coffee selection. You can tell the passion and care that goes into everything they serve. Can't wait to come back!

Dined here for lunch. They have a lot but its kinda small and its shared with lots of other restaurants. Your best bet is street by the school or metered. My wife and I shared a few dishes and all of them were pretty good. My only complaint is that it was a busy Friday rush and literally had 1 person doing the waiting, serving, cleaning, bartending, etc. so service took long - but not the mans fault they are understaffed.

The place is pretty small and hard to navigate around the seating. The best and our favorite of the three wraps was the tongue wrap. This was seriously outstanding and one of the best I've had. It was juicy, lemony, cooked well and flavorful. After that, things went downhill. The vegetable wrap was greasy, almost slimey, and falling apart. The vegetables were all soggy and there wasn't much flavor. The chicken shawarma panini was the biggest disappointment. This was so salty and had a bad taste like the chicken was rancid. It was dry and just not good at all. On the way out we spoke to the owner and mentioned how salty it was, to which he said he knows about it and people complain about it often. So why isn't there a change? Sadly not a place I would return to

Let's start with the drink....I'm not a fan of anything rose flavored or scented so I wanted to make sure the rose flavor wasn't too strong in the Jallab. Since I was told the rose flavor is pretty prominent, it was suggested I do the Jallab with lemonade. What a perfect selection! I didn't pick up any rose flavor and the drink was so pretty. This is a refreshing alternative if you don't want to go with a soda. I already had my heart set on the appetizers and fortunately the other person was on board with the same choices. For dippers, I always go with a yogurt and cucumber appetizer and the Babaghanouj did not disappoint. These sides came with three pieces of pita bread. Neither side was overly garlicky and paired well with my entree. If you love cheese borek like I do, get you some cheese rolls. My only regret is only getting one. The cheese rolls were perfectly flavored and not overly salty. Now for the entree...I already had my eye on three meats so the waitress said to go with The Your Way Plate, which came with a kafta and tenderloin skewer. I also added a lamb skewer on the side. Both my lamb and tenderloin skewer were cooked medium and they were perfect. Lamb is one of those dishes that can be a hit or miss because if it's not cooked right, it will be chewy - mine was perfect! And, the spices they use to cook the lamb in will have you trying to pick up every last drop of juice with your pieces of meat. No complaints with the kafta either. I chose rice as my side because I love me the carbs. We went on a weekday for lunch and parking was easy enough to find on a side street. My go-to order is the lamb kebab plate with half rice and half cabbage salad. The lamb is always cooked perfectly--tender, juicy, and incredibly flavorful (I usually order it medium well). The rice is delicious, but I especially love the cabbage salad, which is tossed in a bright, refreshing mix of lemon juice, olive oil, and garlic. It's the perfect balance to the rich, savory lamb, and the meal always leaves me feeling satisfied without being overly heavy. The restaurant has very limited indoor seating, so if you can, I'd recommend dining in. This is one of those meals that's best enjoyed fresh and piping hot. I like taking my time cutting the lamb into bite-sized pieces and savoring every bite. If you're planning to order takeout instead, I'd suggest the combo plate with the chicken, tenderloin, and ground beef skewers, also with half rice and half cabbage salad. Those meats are softer and easier to enjoy on the go, especially if you're eating shortly after picking it up. And don't skip the garlic sauce--it is absolutely delicious and takes everything to the next level. Simple, fresh, and consistently well-executed, Skaf's On York has definitely earned a spot as one of my favorite restaurants in Highland Park.

They also play a lot of 90s music, which somehow fits perfectly and adds to the whole experience. I've dined in plenty of times and the service is always solid -- staff is friendly and attentive. Just a heads up, food can take a little longer sometimes, but that's because they're always busy and everything is made fresh, so it's worth the wait. I've also done takeout here more times than I can count -- probably over 100 orders at this point -- which says everything. This is easily one of my go-to spots and I keep coming back for a reason.

The food was okay, nothing extraordinary, but decent. Unfortunately, the service was, without…read moreexaggeration, one of the worst I've ever experienced in my life. From the moment we arrived, the vibe felt off. The host who seated us (who later turned out to also be a server) left us at the table, and no one approached us for about 10 minutes. When a server finally came over, the first thing she said was "Ready? Ready?", no greeting, no welcome, nothing. We were never brought water. I had to ask a busser for it because the server walked past our table multiple times, clearly saw us, and chose to ignore us. The food runner was also rude, he dropped the plates on the table without saying a single word. Throughout the entire meal, no one checked on us. No "How is everything?" No "Do you need anything?" Nothing at all. Meanwhile, we noticed that nearby tables were being greeted, checked on, and treated kindly. When we asked for the check, the server literally threw it on the table without saying a word. The experience was so bad that we decided not to leave a tip; Something we never do, especially since we truly value good service and I personally work in the restaurant industry. I don't know if the treatment had anything to do with how we looked or how we were dressed, but I've never felt so ignored and uncomfortable in a restaurant before. The food may be fine, but the service completely ruins the experience. I would not return or recommend this place.

Thankfully, we had a reservation, so our wait wasn't long. Once inside, the restaurant was buzzing and packed with people, but even with the crowd, the service flowed smoothly. The waitstaff was on point throughout the evening. The beauty of dining with a group of four is that you can order a bunch of different dishes and share the experience. And that's exactly what we did! For cocktails, we went with the Nebuchadnezzar, Semira, and the Khoda. Then came the food: * Hummus Duck 'Nduja * Chicken Liver Pâté * Fried Quail * Farm Cheese with Buckwheat Toast * Oyster Mushroom Kebab * Slow-Roasted Lamb Neck Shawarma * Wagyu Beef Cheek Tagine For dessert, we finished things off with the Fresh Peach Tart. Everything came out timely, fresh, and cooked to perfection. There were a lot of great dishes on the table, but the standout star of the night was the Slow-Roasted Lamb Neck Shawarma. Tender, flavorful, and absolutely delicious! Overall, Bavel was a great first experience. Good food, great energy, solid service, and the perfect spot for sharing a meal with friends.

It was quite busy but the staff and service for my takeout order were excellent. While I waited I sat inside and sipped on a very tasty iced Moroccan mint green tea at a nice table surrounded by lovely artwork. I ordered a bit of food to eat over several meals. Foul M'dassa. Baba Ghannouj. Wild Cucumber Pickles. Lamb Skewers. Falafel Plate. Watermelon Halloumi. Garlic Toum. I could eat it every day. Every dish looked so pretty and was so delicious. I love how the pitas are thin. I enjoyed every bite of every bit of it! I am definitely planning on coming back to eat more tasty things. 10/10 No Notes

So glad I finally got to stop by many years later for dinner! Parking was easy (on a weeknight). Plenty of street parking and many open meters but I can see it being very difficult on weekends. Bake in some time to find parking! There's both indoor and outdoor seating at this location. This inside is cozy and there's a second room for additional seating. I went on a Thursday night and it was slammed. They do not take reservations but they do have a waitlist via toast that you can join while you walk around and wait for your table. Plenty to do and see on 2nd street. We ordered the party platter for 4 people! It was the perfect amount of food with leftovers to take home. Everything was cooked to PERFECTION. Our beef was a textbook medium rare and was so juicy and tender, as was the rest of the meat. The chicken was so moist and flavorful, as was all the shawarma. All meats were seasoned beautifully. The rice underneath was stunning as well and really caught all the juices from the meat on top. The roasted tomatoes, onions, and pickles were the perfect compliments to help freshen up the palette during the meal. The sauces were amazing and there was a clear favorite (the garlic sauce) which was annihilated by all four of us. Service was friendly! It was very packed so it was slow at times but understandably so. They come by and give you orange blossom water for your hands post meal - what a treat! We smelled amazing! NO NOTES FOR OPEN SESAME! I have to come back with more friends! We did have an issue but it was with another patron who had the audacity to yell at my table (while I was in the restroom) for "having too much fun"?!?! This is a public restaurant and it was loud as hell in there because it's tight and everyone talks over each other, not to mention the open kitchen. The energy in the restaurant is exciting and frenetic. If you want a quiet dinner f*cking STAY HOME and leave the streets to those of us who have had a WEEK and want to enjoy a fun dinner with friends. We will be back and we will have even MORE FUN, xoxo.

Hands down one of the best Mediterranean meals I've had in Long Beach…read more Everything we ordered was incredible. The lamb chops were the star of the meal--perfectly seasoned, savory, juicy, and beautifully grilled with that fresh, smoky barbecue flavor. The hummus was a 10/10: silky smooth, topped with whole chickpeas, and full of rich, authentic flavor. The rice deserves its own mention. It was light, fluffy, buttery, and perfectly cooked--not sticky at all. Paired with the fresh salad, it balanced the meal perfectly. For drinks, the sorbet drink was so refreshing, and the pomegranate tea was outstanding with bright, fruity notes that made it the perfect way to end the meal. The ambiance is absolutely beautiful. Sitting outside on the sidewalk felt cozy and romantic, and the decor inside genuinely made me feel like I was back in Turkey. The restaurant is spotless (including the restrooms), and the customer service was warm, attentive, and welcoming from start to finish. If you're looking for authentic Turkish and Mediterranean food in Long Beach, this place is a must-visit. I'll definitely be back for those lamb chops!
