This has always been my go to restaurant. You can pretty much pick out anything you want and be satisfied with it. Even during the virus crisis, it was pretty easy to get food, pick it up, and take it home. Orders were always accurate. Only thing that I do not like about what's going on now is that you cannot have a salad made to your specifications. I am not a fan of cucumbers and just to pick the cucumbers off the existing salads does not cut it for me. I can still taste it. I wish this restaurant would go back to the way most other Lubys have been doing their salads and that is making them to your specifications in a bowl instead of a plastic clamshell. Also to make it a side along with a vegetable plate would be nice also. read more

The fried fish with tartar sauce is the best around the world. The fish is crispy on the outside and delicious. However, the mashed potatoes with gravy & macaroni and cheese are delicious...sometimes. I visit lubys frequently and this visit was a miss for the sides. A bit bland this time around, but take a chance on this place and you'll enjoy the cafeteria style comfort food. read more

The food is not the issue as it's passable. The service also decent. The issue was lack of proper food handling by the restaurant. A female server handling food had three nails naturally prohibiting her from wearing gloves. The first time we observed we phoned and spoke with manager and said we'd prefer to speak with him before phoning the Health Department. He agreed it wasn't right and would take care of the issue. Went back a couple of weeks later and to our disgust the same girl with long nails was still handling food with no gloves. We filed a complaint with Health Department and they went out but didn't see the offending employee. We went to the Luby's again yesterday and saw the same employee again serving food.!!!! So we phoned the Health Department yet again and the inspector went out today and observed the employee now on the register. Hmm... very coincidental indeed! Was said this Luby's has had several violations. Most likely the employee will be returned to the serving line but we don't plan to ever return again. We will be contacting Luby's Corporate Offices in Houston to let them know as well. read more

I worked at lubys in the early 80s. I wish they could bring back some of the old recipes. I know times have changed, but the selection now is pretty dissaponting. They used to have the best salad counter, and now its all pre-packaged and a very limited choice. What they have is usually pretty good. I always like the jalepeno corn bread but the selection is very limited compared to what it used to be. read more

I love this location. It's always clean, fresh selection, great chicken and plenty of sides. The dessert options can vary from day to day. I love their fried fish and the gravy for the chicken tenders is delicious. Their breakfast buffet is absolutely delicious and I was very surprised by how good the menudo was. Decided to not eat at home tonight and order from a place we both like, Luby's. Specifically the one at Bandera/1604. We ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with 2 sides and Fried Chicken combo with 2 sides. The Chicken Fried steak came perfectly. I got the 2nd order with Chicken and no sides.. I called back and was passed around 3 times. They didn't seem to care that they got my order wrong. We had been seeing everything closed and just drive thru's only open, before you say that they were busy they weren't. It was just the 2 of us. I guess Luby's hasn't figured out drive thru ordering yet, yes they have a dedicated drive thru. I won't be visiting this place anymore. If I could give zero stars would of. My daughter and I dine here on her dinner breaks from dance. The food is always super fresh, so tasty and extremely reasonable! I always get the LuAnn which includes an entree, a side and a roll for only $7.99 (pictured). My daughter gets a kids meal which is $4.99 for an entree, 2 sides, a roll, jello cubes and a drink. Wow! The place is spotless as well. Also, we love Roy (server/busser)! He is so friendly and always goes out of his way to make us happy. Always a smile on his face and happy to help. Do not go to Luby's!! I hadn't been there in years and now I remember why!!! The food was lukewarm. The fried chicken was pink inside. I called the manager over and showed it to him and his response was "oh now that's just juices from the bone marrow". What he should've done was replaced the chicken and skipped the chicken story. Hi, ripped off my suit, put on shorts and a top and headed to Luby's for take out. Loved this place. Good food, good people. My husband wanted liver and onions and they were out. Said it would be 4 minutes. 12 minutes later I broke up a group of 10 chatting line people to ask where my order was as my other food was getting cold. We forgot, but we have some right here. Then the line manager acted like this was no big deal. I asked for the mgr. she said she was it. Second week in a row I have been at this Lubys and both times I came In to order family order of enchiladas it was 6pm and the worker told me they don't have enough enchiladas to make a family order I walked over and looked at the line of food so I asked the manager she said there wasn't enough enchiladas as she motioned. Luby's...we reunite once again since the last time I remember eating at one back in the early 2000s just before they left the market in Odessa. My first impression of this location was that it is clean and modern outside than some of the other Luby's around the city. Since I last ate at Luby's the menu has changed used to be like a one price for the cafeteria line now it varies on the entree you choose in which the combo includes only 2 side and a bread and the salad is now $2.74 extra substitute for your side. I ordered the classic fried fish combo with mashed potatoes with brown gravy and Mac & cheese and a roll. The food tasted like I last remembered it, crispy southern fish paired with tarter sauce, creamy cheesy Mac and great mashed potatoes with creamy gravy. My fiancé got the crispy fried chicken, fried okra (not good) and mashed potatoes with gravy. Overall the food is good brings me back to the times dining at Luby's with my parents as a kid. The service was good the waitress was attentive and assured our needs were met! This is my favorite lubys in San Antonio. Every time I've been there the food has been really fresh. This tells me that they have to refresh the food a lot. Nothing to write home about. I've never been here before and needed something small for a snack. I went to the drive thru, friendly employee taking my order & she patiently waited for me to decide - as I mentioned it was my first visit. I ordered: Fried okra - a bit soggy but overall not bad flavor. The okra was good, it was the breading on some pieces that was soggy. It didn't come with a dipping sauce - I used 1,000 island when I got home. It was a good size order, could easily with split for 2 as a side. Mac n' cheese - velvety smooth and the noodles were cooked to perfection. Complaint; no flavor! They must use mild cheeses because there wasn't a tang of cheddar or Swiss. I wasn't happy with it. Eh, for $4 it's okay - maybe good for kids who like plain flavors (hey I used to be one of those kids... So it s good option for families to come here). I don't plan on returning; everything on the drive thru menu is fried (entrees). At least I can say I've tried it. The drive thru menu has 9 entrees and some sides to choose from... Worst visit ever! There was a ridiculously long line, everything was disorganized and dirty. No one to help at the ToGo counter, there were tons of people (myself included) waiting to be acknowledged and helped regarding our pre paid online orders and then another bunch of people waiting to order. One employee literally paused as I asked her for help then said nothing and continued walking past me. Then I managed to ask another employee for help and she told me the dine in customers take priority so us who made online orders in advance have to wait until they've serviced everyone else. How is that right considering I ordered ahead and already PAID!!!! Then I had to literally beg a third employee to get my order which I could see since I walked in just sitting on a cart. She bagged it with a huff and a puff and I left with my cold and soggy food. Not to mention how terrified I felt standing in the restaurant with people literally should've to shoulder with absolutely NO social distancing even being attempted. First time here. Came at about 10am for the breakfast on Saturday. Wasn't crowded. We had amazing service from Leticia. She helped bring our trays since we had small children and the stroller. Solid! Brought my very, very, extremely, really picky, out-of-Towner family and highly critical, culinary critic, husband (did I mention he's extremely selective about his food?). Everyone found something they enjoyed and for a very reasonable price. I had turkey breast, cranberry and two sides (spinach and sweet potatoes) and there was more than I could finish. Didn't even touch the cornbread or get dessert. Too full! My husband had the angus "chopped steak" (thick hamburger steak) with rice and potatoes (really must speak to the man about veggie intake) and was happy/full. My son devoured his fried chicken drumstick, Mac n cheese and green beans. Pecan pie was good. I'd skip the apple pie (had a bite of Mom's and it was Straight Outta Comstock - you know the canned pie filling they sell at Dollar Tree) but the okra and beans were also delish (Dad's sides - really must also speak to this man about un-battered/fried veggie intake). Cornbread could be more moist, but I was happy. Best of all, you can go full on, "fry me up a pants size," decadent or pretty healthy here. Luby's used to be our favorite place to eat but in the last few years the food and service has deteriorated. First off, we order the same food on the menu so it's easy to be able to distinguish what the problem is. The food it mostly always cold or dry, but worst of all is the restaurant itself. The Bandera location had a "Closed/Remodeling" sign up for a few weeks so when it finally reopened we were ecstatic. Upon walking in NOTHING had changed. No new furniture, carpets, tables, flooring, kitchen or even bathrooms. Not sure what was "Remodeled" or caused the temporary closing. Either way the restaurant is absolutely disgusting and we are finally walking away. I hope they decide to invest in this location as it has always been the busiest. read more
