I've eaten here plenty of times over the years and the food was always good until one time I got food poisoning after eating the kalbi plate. I know it was the food I got from there because the food I ate the day before was plain rice and veggies due to my diet plan I was on during that time. But on the day I had ordered at Matiki, I only had their Kalbi plate and then again, my rice and steamed veggies. After eating the Kalbi plate, I had already started to feel a bit off. The taste of the food was a bit off as well but didn't think much of it. After about an hour or two, my stomach was not happy and I began to get nauseous. About 2-3 hours later was when the, excuse my french, sh*! show began. I was in and out of the bathroom numerous times with everything just coming out through both ends. Sorry for the gross description.... It got to the point where I may have been getting dehydrated. I was so tired from all the action that I eventually just camped out on the bathroom floor... Since then, the thought of eating at Matiki has unfortunately turned me off and no matter what I do, I can't seem to eat there anymore... But another reason for this review is because my Lola in law (lola - Grandma) ordered a half tray of their mac salad for thanksgiving because she loves it that much for some reason. She loves it so much that she paid $135 bucks for a HALF TRAY. Not a full, but a HALF TRAY. When she mentioned this to me and the family, we were all speechless... The website says that a half tray can feed about 20-25 people. I guess you can if you gave them little kid sized scoops of it. But a full on adult with an appetite could eat enough to make the half tray good enough for maybe 10 people. And this is going based off what an average sized adult with a good and regular appetite would and could eat. I cook and do the shopping for whatever I cook in my family. I've made mac salad plenty of times and have made large batches of it for parties. I can tell you that a half tray cost no more than $10-15 bucks. This would be including any eggs that I believe are in this recipe and eggs aren't cheap anyore. So I am just wondering how something so easy and so cheap to make, can be sold at an increase of over 780 percent? Hopefully google gave me the correct number LOL... If you look at their catering menu online, they have kalbi going for $215 for a half tray and $430 for a full... Again... a half tray is said to be enough for 20-25 people. A full is good for 45-50 people... I know and have seen average sized adults, to regular sized adults whom dont have a huge appetite kill AT LEAST 5-7 pieces on their own. I've seen small kids eat close to that number as well. The cost of Kalbi isn't cheap and you can only fit so many pieces into each size tray to where there is no way the number of people they state can be fed off each size, would be good enough. I mean I guess it would and could be a good number if each person were to only get 2-3 pieces each, but that would never be enough food and too costly to even be a good financial decision to make. I know some of you are wondering and want to say some negative things about all this, especially since my grandmother unfortunately made the dicision to pay that price.. Believe me, we went in on her and she knows now to do some price checking before doing such a thing ever again. In her defense, she has never had to order/purchase that amount of food in her life. Yes, she goes grocery shopping and could have figured how much they are jacking up the price on such a thing but she has no experience or knowledge of the rates of catering orders and thought this was just normal. Now she knows and she honestly can't believe how much she paid for something so easy and cheap to make that she is disappointed in herself. We thought she was lying about the price she paid that we called to see what the prices were just in case someone was trying to pull a fast one but sure enough, the prices match and are close to what the website says. It's honestly disappointing to see that this price for mac salad is being charged. Especially when their food is great, other than the time I got sick, and their staff is always great too. But unless they are adding gold sprinkles or using fiji or voss water to boil their eggs and mac noodles in for whatever reason, there should be no way that it should be sold at that price nor should anyone, other than my grandma, be stupid enough to pay that. I could be giving them a 1-2 star review but again, their food and workers are great. BUT, with me getting food poisoning and now my grandma OVERRRRRRRPAYINGGGGGGGG for mac salad, I just had to do a review. Their food, other than their mac salad, and their workers is what is saving them with the 3 star review. read more

Phone in your order! This is place is good! The ribs plate comes with two rice and either Mac or greens. I asked for one of each and was charged an extra $1 so beware of that. The ribs were goood! My only complaint is most of it was fat, but I mean still tasty. There were four tables to eat inside. I can't say they were "socially distant" though. read more

SHEEEEEEESH. First of all, PLEASE take a look at the photos I took. These barely do justice, but let me just say I LOVED the food. Family business, opened for 45 years and I can't believe I barely tried it now. We ordered the #1 Beef Rib plate and #7 Kalbi & Beef plate. No mistakes were made. Only mistake is that I didn't try this place sooner. The portions were very generous! I was so surprised seeing the amount of meat they placed for each plate. The beef rib was so tender, meat fell off the bone by a simple push of the fork. The Mac salad was very refreshing and a great balance between it. The sauce is the finishing piece in my opinion! Very light, with a sweet and salty blend that compliments the beef. The kalbi and beef plate was great too! (Was my GF's). It came with two scoops of rice too. The chefs in the back were fasholy throwing it down, compliments to them! They are very fast paced and busy, so I recommend ordering on the phone if you don't want to wait too long. I also asked if it was possible to sub in rice for regular salad but the person taking my order didn't want to change my order, so the plate itself was boring to my palette. Been coming to Matikis for over 15 years, only the Anaheim location though. Today i visited the Fullerton location for the first time and had quite possibly one of the most unpleasant experiences I have ever had at a restaurant, with the woman working up at the front. She has the most horrible attitude ever and behaves extremely rude and nasty. Her sour attitude makes me never want to return to the Fullerton location and I nearly escalated the situation after her passive aggressive attitude towards me and other customers did not change. She showed no remorse when I confronted her about her horrible service and told me to get out of the store. As i was walking out some young guy that worked in the kitchen began to attempt to intimidate me by walking right up to my face and trying to scare me into walking faster. He's lucky he didn't escalate the situation himself because his size was not intimidating at all, and he would have found out the hard way not to judge a book by its cover. I took photos of both employees. There was a 3rd man working in the kitchen and he remained quiet and peaceful, I commend him for his professionalism. The woman at the front especially had an extremely disrespectful attitude for no reason at all, please address this. read more

What a true hidden gem, so glad I stumbled across this place. Placed an order through their website and it was ready before the estimated 15 minutes. The restaurant was smoky and you get hit with it as soon as you walk in. We got the Kalbi plate with all macaroni salad (2 scoops) and the beef rib plate ("sam's plate") with all macaroni salad as well. It came out to be $37.43 which is pretty steep for what you get. Craving hawaiian barbeque and saw the great reviews for this place and thank goodness I was not let down. Parking was available, you won't need to circle around. When you enter the shop, the smoky aroma almost overwhelms you and you just KNOW that you're in for a legit treat. Ordering was fast and easy and I didn't need to wait more than 10 min for my order. I couldn't wait to eat so I snuck a few bites in the car and ugh.. so good! Great portions ( I could pair my order with kimchi and make it 2-3 meals lol) and it was such good food. Only thing is that if you wait to eat the rest of the meats a couple of hours later, it could be a little dry even though it wasn't dry when you first get it. Some places do their Hawaiian barbeque with weird marinades but Matiki is great because it's not too sweet nor salty. Since I read that this place can get busy, I made a preorder pick up on the phone prior. The lady took my order and told me it would be ready in 15-20 minutes, which was when I arrived. The mom and pop shop is located in a strip plaza. The entire process was super quick and easy as I paid and my food was already ready with many other orders. Although you need to use your finger to sign the pad, there is hand sanitizer for you. They have removed all dining tables due to Covid at the time, but pick up is very efficient. I ordered the #1 Beef Rib Combo ($11.75), which came with 2 scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad/salad on the side. Although I would've liked a bigger scoop of mac salad, it was actually a bit bland in flavor. As for the ribs, you got 4 hefty pieces of beef. This is one of my favorite spots! We used to live in the area but had to come back to this location because the food is bomb. The portion size is also large. I always get extra rice instead of the Mac salad or salad. My favorite is the beef with kalbi. Located close to Knotts, this is a spot you have to try! Make sure to get extra sauce. I usually come to Matiki when I'm feeling extra carnivorous and can't have KBBQ. My go-to platter is the #1 RIBS PLATTER. I always get extra meat so it comes with six beef ribs, two cups of rice and a cup of mac/potato salad. That costs about $16.50. The portions may look hefty and you betcha I gnaw on these bones feeling like Fred Flintstone but it's actually mostly cartilage and fat. Regardless of that, it's still a good amount of meat if you pay for "extra meat". The beef ribs are juicy thanks to that glistening layer of fat. The mac/potato salad definitely neutralizes the oil from the meat. This is a definite must try! read more
