I really wanted to love it and say the food was awesome! Alas, it was good, but I could not say great or awesome. I got the Kalbi plate. They give you a lot of food and it was tasty. However, it was way overcooked, so some of the pieces were tough. There were a lot of bones with little meat. My husband got the Kalua Pork and Cabbage. It was yummy and not over seasoned. But my husband would have preferred more Kalua Pork and less cabbage. The Mac salad was good - can't go wrong there! So...maybe it was just a bad day when we went. Would I go and try it again? Even before I landed in SoCal, one cuisine I knew I needed to eat was Hawaiian. Matiki came to the top of the list as I searched through Yelp. Glad I got to remove this restaurant from my bookmarked list on my most recent visit as it didn't disappoint. Ordered the Big Kahuna Plate to share amongst four people, which was more than enough for two adults + 2 children. It came with teriyaki chicken and beef, and kalbi short ribs, rice, macaroni salad, and tossed green salad all for a whopping $30! Really enjoyed the teriyaki beef and short ribs, which were both super tender and flavorful (both were a hit with the little ones!). Wasn't a fan of the teriyaki chicken, which I found to be dry. Also thought the rice was on the dry side (needed to add more water to it as it was being cooked). I found the macaroni salad to be just okay, but probably because it was mixed with potato salad as well (which I'm generally not a fan of). Others enjoyed it, though. Also tried some of the Kahlua pork, which was also very flavorful. Service was friendly and efficient. Food was ready at the promised time. Plenty of parking in the lot out front. They seemed to be pretty busy during lunch time, we all the tables full (they have several) and people ordering to go. read more

So much fat in my #2 Kalbi beef plate. Ratio of fat to actual meat was 70/30. Each piece had fat or was just fat. My daughter and I wanted to split the plate thinking we would be getting lots of meat. The plate costs about $20. To our dismay it was full of fat. I ate 2 small skinny pieces of meat. My daughter had a little more than that, but not much. We were still hungry. I wanted to order spam musubi too. But, they weren't ready. They needed 30 minutes. We came in at 11am and were 3rd in line. I wanted to like this place but like...where's the beef? I know the chef who cooked the food saw how much fat they were cooking and eventually giving us. Couldn't he at least given us more meat than fat? I don't know how he thought this was ok. What little meat we had was good. The rice and Mac salad were good too. Place was clean. Disappointing and overpriced for what you get. I got the #1 Beef ribs and for $19, I expected a decent portion of meat, but instead what I got was mostly bones, fat, and the rubbery membrane parts. I ordered a few different things and while everything tasted great I felt like everything was just absolutely full of fat and lacked meat. The short ribs were just bone and fat as if they trimmed out the actual meaty parts and kept it for themselves. The beef ribs tasted great but there was not a lot of meat on those bones. I ordered to go recently. I normally get their beef ribs. But the beef ribs this time wasn't falling off the bone like they usually do. Which is a bummer. It's still yummy regardless especially when you're craving for it! This time I tried something new and got their chicken and galbi. I definitely like their galbi more than the chicken. For the plates, I order all mac and no rice since it's easier for us to cook rice at home. I do like how you can get rice, mac, or salad though. Nice to change it up a bit if needed. Service is good. I only order to go from Yelp and they always have the order correct with enough napkins, sauces, and utensils. So that's always a plus. For the ambiance, it's a cool island vibe. While waiting a few minutes for my to go order everything looked clean. The table was wiped down and not sticky. read more

This place was awful. There is no bathroom for paying customers to use, even to wash your hands. The portions were tiny for the price. The beef rib plate looked like they cut off the meat and then grilled what was left and called it a day. The place was comfortable only because the AC was working. Will never come back. read more

If you're looking for a bang for your buck kind of deal, Matiki is the way to go. I've been to the Fullerton location years ago and this was my first visit to their original location in Anaheim. I went with their #2 Kalbi Plate and it was amazing as always. My GF got their #3 Chicken Plate and it was very disappointing. Most of the chicken were too hard to even bite into. The flavor was off for that one as well. Meats are good, rice is abit cold, and the mac was flavorless. Prices are high but the portions are even bigger. One downside for this location is that there is no ventilation at all. There is no wall that divides the kitchen from the front of house seating area so it was very smoky inside. I understand that this is a mostly take-out establishment but there are still tables inside for patrons to enjoy but that is not possible. I prefer the Fullerton location. read more

I came here today for lunch today while I was visiting Long Beach. We were craving Hawaiian food and wanted to try this place out. We ordered their kalbi short ribs plate and their chicken plate. The customer service was amazing! We were surprised how fast they made our food and they were super friendly and our order was ready less than twenty minutes which was nice! The food was great the kalbi short ribs was tender, super flavorful, and well seasoned. The chicken also had a nice barbecue seasoning but some of the pieces was moist and some was kinda dry but overall it was still good. The plates also came with two scoops of white rice and a macaroni potato salad. The rice was super soft - I love the texture of it! Their macaroni potato salad was super tasty. Only Hawaiian place I can think of with Beef Rib on menu. Very highly rated so came by when in town. I noticed the plaza also has their HQ which advertises franchise opportunities so an interesting brand to keep an eye on and see what happens in the future. Right down the street from Knott's Berry Farm, Matiki is old-school "local food." It captures the island flavors that Hawaiian transplants line up for. When you first walk into the busy little restaurant, you are welcomed with the sweet smell of charcoal-blackened meat. I went all in with the Beef Rib and this review is based on this one combo though I would love to return and try some of their more standard Hawaiian proteins. Beef rib was sparse with meat and had a lot of fat left over. It was tasty but seriously just a couple edible pieces once removed from the bone. I got this to split with my parents and while everything else in the combo was bountiful, the beef ribs were lacking and we ended up needing to buy two lunches that day. read more

FIRST time trying out Matiki and being a Vegas local there's a location back at home, however, somehow my boyfriend and I made the trip to this location in Anaheim. Thankfully it was a 20 minute drive from our hotel so it was worth it and we're so excited to visit and get to see what the hype is all about. For a Friday afternoon, it was busy with multiple people waited for their orders which I have to say we waited about 10 minutes inside for our orders so they are quick and efficient! The plate does come with 2 scoops of rice and choice between greens & Mac salad! The inside was a cozy, homey feel with limited seating inside so I appreciate the feeling you get once you are inside of the restaurant! I did ordered 2 pieces of spam musubi on top of their kalbi plate on top of extra beef rib! I'm so excited to try my order and get to try the delicious flavors for myself. I can't wait to get back home to Vegas and try their location out as well!!! read more

Wow!! Wow!! Wow!! My first time here. Talk about making my heart skip a beat with pleasure and my stomach couldn't be happier to have eaten here as I devoured my plate. I ordered the Beef Rib Plate & my wife the Chicken & Kalbi. We shared between the both of us and enjoyed everything. My beef ribs were falling off the bone tender and with the hint of the sweet bbq sauce as it was charred on the grill gave it a kiss of blackening which made these ribs that much more succulent for me. The Kalbi and the chicken both had their own sweetness and they too were kissed by the the char from the bbq grill making them just as delicious within their own way. I personally can not wait until I'm back in this area of the OC once again because I already know where I'll be eating. We got the beef ribs, short ribs, and kalua pork dinner dishes, with white rice, Mac salad and green salad (upon request we chose what sides we wanted). We ordered 4 plates total. $70 total. Food came out within 10-15 min. The beef ribs were very generous, about 4 ribs per plate. We were very disappointed in the kahlua pork. As you can see, it was mostly cabbage. Barely any pork!! Huge bummer bc the pork was tasty and tender, just wasn't enough of it. We got jipped! I still would give this place 5/5 stars. Was super excited to check this place out after seeing all the posts in IG. I love me a good beef rib and haven't found too many places that does a beef rib. Throw in some mac salad and I'm good. If I could I would have given 3.5 stars for reasons below. On Memorial day for dinner, first tried their fullerton location. They were closed. I feared I wouldn't get to try this before I left the next day. Called the Anaheim location and they were open! Got to Anaheim about an hour before they close. Walked in and the place was smoking, literally. You can see the smoke in the restaurant and behind the counter where they were grilling. It also smelled like BBQ so that was a good start. I ordered the rib plate for myself and my wife got the beef bowl. When I got my order and opened up the box I was a little disappointed. I'm not gonna lie. It was like IG vs reality. My ribs certainly didn't look like all the ribs I was seeing. And they were a lot smaller than everything else I saw. This could be my fault for going on memorial day and about an hour before they close. Maybe all the good ribs got eaten earlier in the day! Once I got over the initial shock, I dug in to see if it was good. I will say, even though it didn't look like the ones I saw on IG, it did taste good. I just wish the ribs had a little more meat and were cooked over the fire so I could get that BBQ char taste. For the ribs I got, it still had good flavor and fall off the bone tenderness. The marinade it came with (I say marinade because it's not like a thick sauce) was super tasty. They have it on the tables but it was in a soy sauce bottle so I originally thought it was soy sauce but later overheard that it's their Matiki sauce. I would put that sauce on everything including white rice and eat it just like that it was that tasty, but I'm a sauce guy to begin with. The mac salad is a potato mac salad so you can definitely taste the potato but it was creamy and delicious. I'm a mac salad fan as well and this was some good mac salad. I just wish the portion was a little bigger. It also comes with two scoops of rice and like I said, it's best with that matiki sauce. Overall, I finished everything and left feeling satisfied. Overall, it tasted good and I was full. I do wish the ribs were more meaty and were more bbq'd but I will definitely give this place another shot. Maybe try the Huntington Beach location, but I will definitely try the LV locations as it looks like most of the IG posts I see are coming out of the LV location. It also looks like the LV locations have some different menu items like a mac salad musubi which I would love to try. read more

Located at the end of a strip mall, I ordered online via Doordash this time and my order was ready when I went to go pick up. Workers there was super friendly and were wearing face masks. Social distancing was being observed. Overall, great pickup experience! The good 1. Sam's Plate or Beef Rib Plate - The ribs brought the review to a 4.5 stars. The ribs were tender and had great flavors! You know a beef rib is a good when one or two bites aren't enough, you need one or two whole ribs to yourself. Loved the crispy charred bits which added more flavors to the beef ribs. 2. Mac Salad - I felt this was pretty well done. It had a good balance of sweetness and savoriness. One of the better well done Mac Salads. The alright 1. Teriyaki Chicken Plate - This was alright. I did really enjoy the crispy bits at the ends of the chicken but the chicken itself was quite dry.
