I wanted to give you guys more stars but it's really the inconsistency that prevents me. I have been going here off and on for lunch at least 3 days a week for the last 3 months. Sometimes I get fabulous salads, other days I don't. I never know what causes the issues since I've probably have had a salad made by every single one of the people that work there. Maybe it's a training issue as I have noticed that everyone seems to make their salads slightly different. I just wish the salad guys and gals would slow down a bit and LISTEN to the customer when we're telling you what we want. Got the bachelor salad (~$15) asked them to sub out breadcrumbs for avocado (you're allowed one sub for preset salads) and walked out with neither. On several occasions I have tried to order something else, and indeed before my first Maui, I had many other wonderful salads from here. Finally went here last week for lunch with my coworkers after walking past it for 2 years wondering what the long line was all about. We arrived just after 11:30, and the line was already 10-15 people long. Luckily it moved really fast, so it was my turn in no time. We were also able to grab two tables inside. I went for the Design Your Own Salad (4 Staples and 1 Specialty Item) with mixt greens, cucumber, carrots, edamame, jicama, marinated tofu, and balsamic vinaigrette dressing. It was nice that they asked how much dressing you wanted: light, medium, or heavy. The only thing I thought was strange was that tomatoes weren't part of the regular staples but things like roasted zucchini and herb roasted potatoes were. So I had to skip the tomatoes in favor of the tofu. Overall, you get a LOT of salad and the prices are reasonable ($6.95 plus tax for my salad) as long as you don't go too crazy with extra specialty items and other add ons. Seems like they can add up fast! I would definitely recommend getting there early as the line was out the door probably about 30 people long by the time I left. But like I said, it moves quickly. I usually don't dig rabbit food, but these salads are awesome. I got the Maui salad with seared ahi, avocado, mango, and crushed macadamia nuts -- and it was healthy, tasty and a good-sized portion. I didn't feel hungry an hour later, so I consider it a win. Don't let the long line out the door scare you -- it moves really quickly. If you're in a big hurry, I also hear they let you call ahead. The only downside: $13 for a salad is hard to justify. The salads are good, but I'm not sure it's worth it on a regular basis. read more

Came here with a coworker one day for lunch. I am not a big salad kind of person because it never really fills me up (I need carbs) but surprisingly this filled me up. We came in and there was a line, not super long though, and I ordered the orchard. Another reason why I don't like ordering salads is because most of the time the leaves are welted or doesn't look fresh, here, what I got in my to go box, I didn't find a single welted or unhealthy looking leaf and I was really impressed! The salads are really yummy but mixt has messed up my order every single time. Last week I ordered for delivery- a salad with added tofu (the added tofu is almost an extra 4$). My salad came without tofu. I called and was told that they would re-deliver the salad with tofu. Two hours later, I received the salad with no tofu. My friend who ordered with me received the entirely wrong salad. This place has potential but seems to have a lot of issues getting the orders correct, which makes it hard to return as a customer when salads are around 14$ each. read more

Is it overpriced? Yes. Does it make me happy to eat here sometimes? Yes! Look, you're paying around $12-$16 (inc. tax) for a salad which is ridiculous but they are quite good and it's healthier than eating a chicken sandwich from next door. Be prepared to wait in a line unless you come around 11.30am but the line does go fast. Also, don't assume all the salads are healthy. Some of them have 700-800 calories so if you're being health conscious, check their online calculator before you go. read more

Fresh, tasty, healthy ingredients, makes for a delicious salad or sandwich. First off, salads here are Huge! So far, I've only finished an entire one once in one sitting. The cowboy salad is my favorite, and any sandwich served on the herb slab. They let you substitute ingredients in the salad if you're not partial to anchovies, etc. which is pretty awesome. Somehow I manage to wind up with a whole lot of extra cheese (yum!). Definitely quite pricy though, this is my lunch splurge of the week, but I consider it part of my health to eat good vegetables every so often, as the price justification. The staff here is really friendly, occasionally have conversations. Apparently I eat lunch at a weird time, and there is never a line when I go. read more

I really like this place. My favorite sandwich is rooster. Rooster is grilled chicken with sliced apples, greens, and fontina cheese. The food is healthy and filling. In one word I can describe this place as FRESH :) It's on a bit pricy side but hey you get your money's worth. BTW the line to register takes about 15-25 minutes during peak lunch hours. So either try and go early (11:45ish) or really late (1:30ish). read more

Paying for a salad. never really liked that idea of paying for a meal that has lil or no prep at all. nor was it filling. But this spot is different. its filling and its surprisingly good. I tried their stead and potatoes salad with carmelized onion and i dont feel like its starving me. Lots of choices and pre-made combinations and everything was fresh. I bought a cookie as well just in case I was hungry after. I wasn't. Yummy yummy good for my tummy. Love this place when I'm looking for a healthy lunch - which happens more often than you would think. I always go for the create my own. The thing about this place is all the vegi's are super fresh and the salad tastes like it was made from someone's garden produce. I'm giving this place a low grade based on their charging $2.50 to add chicken to a salad and for this chicken to be overly dry on one occasion. I suspected something was amiss when the server was in such haste that he gave me a wad of chicken strips that happened to be sitting on the counter. I let it slide at the time but it occurred to me another server probably left it there temporarily after realizing it was overly dry. I would think they would cut the chicken fresh. I was pretty pissed off at the gesture and too far away at the point I realized how pissed I was to return it. Every time I go here the servers are just cheap labor in mechanical mode trying to get through lunch hour rush. No denying the restaurant was founded by chefs. Their combination of ingredients is inventive and the flavors are outstanding provided you actually get the desired amount of vinaigrette instead of the hastily spurted squeeze bottle from the dunce caps they employ. People who eat here work in the area but it's a slow moving line so you burn half your lunch hour if you go at rush times. No real competition though for creative salads. Just be prepared to burn at least $10 for a salad, more if want to chance getting dried out chicken. read more

I used to work super close to this Mixt, and so I would end up ordering a salad around twice a week. I would order online (for efficiencys sake!) and pick up the salad from the side fridge. Unfortunately, this Mixt would end up getting my order wrong more often than they should've. I would request something like "no Blue Cheese", and pick up my salad only to see there was blue cheese in it. Or, I would pay extra money to add sugar snap peas, and see no sugar snap peas when I picked up my salad. While this wasn't happening every time, I would say that a good 1/5 times something would be wrong with my order. When I'm paying ~$15 for a salad, I would really expect it to be made correctly. read more

i remember a few months back i was at park chalet and i noticed the plastic cups we were drinking out of said something like bio plastic, corn based. having spent the last 4+ hours drinking in the sun, i was thinking to myself, that cant be right, wrote it off as "me too drunk and sun too bright, drink more and be happy" well god damn it. i DID read it right, corn based plastics...... i did more research into it cause im a nerd like that..... and an assumption i had about it was also right.... though corn based, it is not suggested to eat these plastic cups. i am smarted. soooooo anyways, im driving over to the fidi to meet up with three yelp hq ladies, connie, jessica and nicole to talk a bit o business... hi ladies... i get a text when im a few blocks away from cpk, "mixt green, on mission, between 2nd, and 1st...." mixt green? hrrrpm. doesnt really sound like a place a meat loving, beer drinking korean would have lunch, but im game. im still looking for a spot to park when connie calls and says they are in front of the line, so i should order... ummmmmm i say grilled cheese sandwich? she says roasted red pepper, i think prosciutto something, and something very fancy sounding..... i say ok. wow, thats one tasty sandwich!!! no really. i nibbled away at it while talking about some stuff.... im one of those, cant eat and talk at the same time, nor can i eat when i drink, but thats another story. yum. i love the idea of the place too. eat seasonally, eat locally, environmentally friendly. the organic ingredients are, well yeah, local and in season. of course i DID get into my 1 freeway, 0 city mpg car afterwards and raced a carrera on the freeway, but you know, yin and yang... its all about balance. read more

I refrain from giving this lunch spot 5 stars because of the high price tag for some lettuce and dressing and the long line. Beyond that, the "cowboy" salad was delicious and fresh. Not to mention the portions are large. The 560 Mission Street location has a nice outdoor seating area which makes it easy to find a seat in spite of the lunch hour rush. The staff had a great sense of humor and made my experience memorable...so unfortunately my wallet will be dented occasionally by a $10 salad! read more

Love Mixt Greens! But this location is HORRIBLE!!! I was unfortunate to have had this one lady made my salad twice, and both times, she did it wrong. I think she is on auto pilot and just works REALLY fast. I ordered the bachelor with olive oil and salt and pepper. Both times, she gave me the bachelor with their dressing. There are a lot of places to get a sandwich or a salad in downtown San Francisco, some on the high end and some on the rock bottom end of the price and quality scale. Mixt Greens is firmly on the high end. Expect to pay about $9-12 on a sandwich or salad. Luckily, it's worth it because (a) you get a good amount of food, (b) the ingredients are all top notch and flavorful, and (c) the menu is excellent. Doing an apples-to-apples comparison, the sandwiches here are better than the comparably priced sandwiches at The Sentinal, and twice as good as those found at most places that charge half as much. Same story on the salads. It helps that they're super efficient and frequently smile. As much as I'd like to knock Mixt Greens as a yuppie trap, I like it. Probably 'cause I'm a yuppie. :) read more

That's right, I'm going to give this five stars. Lines consistently this long mean they know how to make a most excellent salad. Cowboy; wrapped. So delicious. The wrap typically falls apart, but they pile on the extra on top of the wrap, so you end up just using a fork for the whole thing anyway. I got nuthin' to add to all the reviews listed here so I'm just telling you what I get almost every time when I'm here. Guess I eat salads like a dude cuz I need to have plenty of protein, healthy fats, and fiber in my salads otherwise I'll be a hangry puddle by 3pm. Luckily, I can get a pretty good Cobb salad as well as a variety of other protein packed salad options at mixt greens. I also work upstairs so I'm here frequently. It's pricey, it's a splurge, but it is hands down the best salad place I've come across in my lifetime. So until another comparable competitor comes along with a better value proposition, I'm giving this place 5 stars. I think it's better than nearby Tender Greens, Foccacia, and Harvest&Rowe, which are all about the same price range as Mixt Greens. The ingredients are just incredibly fresh and I love the diversity and seasonality of ingredients. It's my go-to place after travelling and I need to feel healthy. Favorites include Hatch, Make-Your-Own, and seasonal salads. Important to note that the quantity you get differs based on which salad barista you get. Some are really stingy and some really pack it in. And some give you TWO pieces of bread. P.S. Sign up for the Thanx app and get $10 off after 10 purchases. I wish it were a free salad because even when you add in tax/health surcharges for the basic Make-Your-Own salad, the total comes out to be more than $10, so you still have to be ~$0.80. P.P.S. This place has ruined me from other salad bars. I used to love Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes but the last few times I went there, the salads just couldn't compare to Mixt Greens. read more

I'm really torn between 3 and 4 stars on this one. On the plus side, this place has a huge variety of fresh ingredients, and the salads are always delicious. On the other hand, my salads are always $12+ and (too) humongeous. You can argue that you get a more than fair portion for your money's worth... but I can't eat that much! I get about 1/2 the way through the salad before I'm full... and by the time I'm ready to eat more, it's usually pretty soggy. I like going here once in a while, but there are definitely cheaper/better options to find salads around the SOMA/FiDi area. read more

This place is always SO packed, but for a good reason. The salads I have had here have both been worth the wait! The last one i tried was the Dagwood which has roasted red pepper, marinated portabella and some other yummy things. I have always wanted to make my own salad but I get a little too intimidated to do so because i fear that people will sense that i'm a novice and i hate that. ha! I gave this place a Round 2 figuring that I probably just ordered the wrong salad. Nope. I got the simple, CAESAR SALAD with chicken. Chicken was so rubbery and the lettuce, blah! The only thing I liked was the cheese, that's sad. Service, that's another thing. The guy making my salad was so grumpy, mumbling questions at me and getting even more pissed that I had him repeat them.. how about you just work on your pronunciation buddy!! I honestly think this place is overrated. But I would suggest choosing the "make your own salad" option, my coworkers always rave about it, but that's because they're mixing the right things. My friend Nancy and I stumbled in here by accident a few months back. We were headed for Joshua Skenes' Carte 415, but unbeknownst to us it was no longer operating, and, as a salad-lover, the sign for Mixt Greens caught my eye. Once inside, it was like veggie heaven. Fresh vibrant produce, wall-to-wall. I had the Maui which was yummy. The best part is that they ask you how much dressing you want: light, medium, or heavy. Light, please! There's nothing worse than a beautiful salad drowned in too much dressing. This is a great place for a quick healthy lunch. Will definitely go back, especially when it's warm to take advantage of the outdoor seating. read more

i love salad. i love organic. i work across the street. and i really wanted to like this place. too bad it's always an awful experience. every time i go there for lunch, i swear it'll be the last time - and i think yesterday it really was. the highway robbery was a lot worse than before - hope it has nothing to do with the "re-mixt" new ownership wiht the founders coming back and wanting higher margins. it always feels like they're nickel and diming you at this place, but this last time it was totally blatant. i shop at whole foods, and have no problem paying what a salad is worth... but $12-$13 for a veggies only box of salad that it loosely packed (dressing on side) and not even full?! i ordered two salads to go. the woman making the first one puts about 4 grape tomato halves on it. i say - "um, can i get a few more tomatoes please?" her: "you want, i charge extra, you want to pay?" me: "never mind then." her, reluctantly, puts a few more grape tomato halves on top and whips out her sharpie to make sure i get charged a dollar extra. i roll my eyes. the next salad is the one that gets made half full. like she's baiting me to ask for ANYthing. you want chicken? no. you want tofu? well, is it gluten free? i ask... she doesn't know. doesn't ask anyone. doesn't care. so i say no. and proceed toi keep my mouth shut, except to ask for a different dressing on the side. i confirm if it's the fat free dressing that she's got in her hand. and again, she says: "you want more - i charge more" this time i emphatically say. NO. and walk out with a half siam salad. and the other overpriced one with my 7 tomato halves. and $25 later. ugh. do yourself a favor and walk over to harvest & rowe or the grove. it'll be worth your while. read more
