Yet another organic salad place. I usually order the cowboy but today I ordered a make your own salad. The mixt greens tasted a little bit grimy -- not unclean but it needed maybe a rinse. Some of the lettuce leaves were also wilting -- for my $10 salad, there should not be any wilty leaves. The portions are good and there are lots of salad options. Boxed Foods on Kearny is still way better though. read more

I love this place despite the price tag and the fact that 2 of the times I went they had run out of everything. It is so good, its worth it. The fact that they do run out is realistic, they are not buying en masse from the fast food providers and there should only be a finite amount of this delishiousness in the world. I never thought a salad could taste so good with the freshest ingredients and splendid dressings that could accompany each salads. I swear they picked their crop at its peak before opening each day, but I'm sure that wasn't the case, though it felt that way. My favorite was the mixt cobb--it was made to perfection each time; the dressing wasn't overwhelming and everything was just right. I loved it and made me keep coming back. But $10 for a salad is a bit much, no matter how fresh it tasted. I also don't like waiting in such a long line. There were a couple of women that worked here who always seemed annoyed, and were not the nicest/friendliest--well, at least not towards me. They seemed nicer to those that looked 'older' and more 'professional'. I once tried the Maui salad, and I had the worst stomachache shortly after consuming it. I'm not sure if it was the fish, or the mac nuts, but my body should've been immune to them since I grew up eating raw fish and mac nuts. Either way I will not be eating that salad again. :'( I'd like to come back again one day to try the Dagwood--that sounds so good. read more

Okay...so I know my bf is going to read this review and then laugh in my face and tell me that I should have expected this kind of shit to happen when I eat at such retarded over-priced joints, but I had the salad craving and I couldn't help myself. This place is amazingly yummy for a salad bar type of establishment. The pre-designed salads are all very expensive averaging out to be $10 or more per salad. I try to stick with the $6.95 create your own salad and cut expenses a bit that way. However, when you do create your own, be prepared to know exactly what is in all the categories as the peeps behind the counter will not inform you. So if your idea is to do 2 staples and 2 specialties, then don't fuck up or they will charge you an arm and a leg for it and not even feel any sort of sympathy. And what is with the guacamole style of avocado? When I ask for avocado on my salad or my sandwich, I want slices of avocado. What is with the smashed up, blended crap that they throw in there? How can you charge so much for a salad and not even have decent products to put in there? If I wanted guacamole, I would have gone to a Mexican spot! Also, anywhere that charges this stupid Health Care surcharge, especially quick lunch spots that don't even come out and serve you, are already on my shit list. read more

Newest of the string of Mixt Greens to pop up in the FiDi. The outdoor seating rings zen - located in a hidden plaza in front of bamboo and beneath a breathtakingly serene, kinetic sculpture (George Rickey? ...must investigate.) of spinning rings on a bed of shallow water. That should be a separate review. Apologies. Best part of this Mixt Greens is that there isn't the ridiculously long line to wait like the ones in the inner FiDi. Not so great is that it's usually colder in the windtunnel and in the shade of the big buildings- unlike the sunny location of the others. As with the other MGs it's nice to have them prepare your salad, which they do expertly, but getting the premades in the cooler are fine by me. read more

I'm giving this place the higher end of three stars. Personally, I've never been a fan of $10 salads (some friends would say that I'm not a fan of any salad), no matter how good the ingredients are. Still, I like Mixed Greens because for what they do, they do it well and you're getting what you pay for. You don't need to go very far to find overpriced salads that do not live up to expectations. This place actually exceeds the standards for a $10 salad: fresh greens, wholesome and tasty mixings, a variety of dressings, and the opportunity to either build your own salad or get one off the menu. The portions are also fairly big. Overall, I'm a fan of places that are worth the money. This is one of them, though it doesn't change the $10 price tag. read more

I love love love Mixt Greens for lunch! Particularly this location because the courtyard space makes for a really nice place to eat. The line in is of course o.o.c. honey! I always just get the Mixt Cobb to go in order to bypass the line. Staff aren't particularly friendly but I guess they don't have to be/ don't have time to be given how busy they are. I used to not come here too much because frankly I was kind of scared of the place. The line is always really long but it moves really fast so you're tricked into thinking you have tons of time to order and then all of a sudden you round the curve and someone's screaming at you NEXT and you blurt out craziness like "I'd like the corn, tofu and sprouted wheat in my salad please!" Trust me, that does NOT taste good. Nowadays I just get a premixed salad and things go much better. I've been a regular here ordering lunch for executives multiple times a week for over a year and we all love it - I alternate between here and Working Girls across the street. Mixt Greens is definitely expensive, but it's great service/personnel, very fresh, customizable salads with extensive ingredient choice, and pretty much worth the wait. I try to go early to beat the rush as the line can be down the street. I would have given four stars but unfortunately when I went in today, I found that my and my coworkers' favorite salad, the Zen, has been discontinued along with its AMAZING dressing. I know restaurants like to switch things up, but I am not sure why Mixt Greens wanted to mess with a great thing. The Zen has been replaced with the Tuk Tuk, a lighter but similar themed salad, which I ordered today. The Tuk Tuk is an ok salad and includes some of the flavors and spicy peanuts previously offered by the Zen, but unfortunately it has higher glycemic, low protein white rice noodles instead of the Zen's healthy high protein buckwheat noodles. So that's one disappointment. The other, kind of major problem is the Tuk Tuk comes with "toasted rice" which is actually just partially cooked white sushi or arborio rice that has serious potential to crack your teeth! By "toasted" they mean the same as the stage when you're making risotto where you've just barely sauteed the dry rice in the pan before you add liquid. Amazing, I know. Definitely not ok. I couldn't believe it. I don't have time to go back out so I am just being extremely careful, which is not easy with this salad. Be sure if you order the Tuk Tuk to ask for no "toasted rice" unless you want to risk racking up a huge dentist bill. Also the dressing is pretty good, but not nearly as good as the Zen dressing, which was so good I (thankfully) bought a bottle. I will be seriously rationing that dressing now that it's no longer available. read more

Not the cheapest, but then you're getting the highest quality ingredients. Portion sizes are spot on for lunch. Not too much and not too little. What really draws me back is that their flavor combinations are so thoughtfully pulled together. Don't bother making your own - let them do the work and order off the menu. Mixt Greens is pricey, but their salads are DELICIOUS. Even though the lines are long at lunchtime, they move quickly. I would have given them 5 stars except that (1) they don't offer online ordering for individuals ($30/min.) -- Specialty's does, and it's super convenient, you skip the line, and (2) their expansions in recent years mean they've had to lower their hiring standards. Let me elaborate: When the first Sansome location opened a few years ago, the staff was WONDERFUL. But a recent visit to the Mission location went like this for me: - I order a "Be Well" salad with extra avocado. Salad maker puts half the stuff in the bowl, is mixing it up, tells me they are out of edamame -- a key ingredient in the salad! - I frustratingly tell him that in that case I would like a "Cowboy" with tofu on it instead of chicken. Again, he makes the WHOLE salad, then puts chicken on top! I stop him and generously agree to take the salad anyway, if he removes the chicken (even though that grosses me out a bit, I don't eat meat, but all these ingredients are already being wasted!). He tells me they are out of tofu. At this point I can't help myself and exclaim, "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME THAT BEFORE YOU MADE THE SALAD?" - So I finally order the "Fruity and Nutty" after several initial rounds of "do you have all the ingredients for that one?" and "are you SURE?", and the third time was the charm. Finally! The "old" staff would never have been this sloppy -- they were friendly, charming, and great at their jobs. I've had other similar service issues that I won't detail here. So to summarize: despite service issues and a high price, Mixt Greens has a great selection of seasonal salads with many veg options. read more

Delicious, fresh and BIG salads. There is usually a line, but it runs really quickly, so don't be discouraged! Got the Gaucho, which was one of their special salads, and subbed onions for avocado. I love how you can sub 1 item from their 'specialty' toppings list - delicious!! Their steak is tender and the chimichurri dressing delicious! I am a fan of the salads of all kinds, but not the ridiculous prices. $12 for a take out salad! Really? Seriously? But they do what they do very well and if you are looking for the schmancy mixed salad for lunch with add-ins like ahi, mangos, crusty macadamias and all manner of gourmet lettuces and unusual dressings, etc. - this is totally your place. One of my fave lunch places.. their ingredients are always really fresh and staff is friendly. Annoying that the line is crazy between 12-1:30 but I just take a later lunch to avoid. Also, they sometimes skimp on the ingredients- always tons of lettuce but the toppings can be lacking if you don't get the right staff serving you. read more

Great place for a quick healthy lunch if you work in the area. The line goes by quick even if the line looks long! A good tip is to have the dressing on the side. From experience, whenever I ask for 'light dressing' they still tend to overly dress it. They have a good selection of menu salads when you don't know what you want but you can easily order something from the menu and add/subtract items or build your own. Great lunch spot! We've been waiting for some better lunch options to come over to this side of Market. A healthy alternative and more exciting than your average sandwich. So many options, so little time. Everyone who works there is so friendly. They are quick (even with the big lines). I love how everything down to your fork is biodegradable too. When MG opened their SOMA location I loved it. Still do to some degree. Always fresh ingredients. Very tasty salads. The cowboy... can't beat it. What's been getting me lately is inconsistencies in their preparation. Went today at lunch and my salad, which is normally filled to the brim, was barely at the half way point. Just moved into the area and found this place. The selection of salad ingredients or sandwiches is huge! The service was fast and they give glasses and bowls for those that eat there. Plenty of outdoor seating and the prices were about average for a big salad-$10ish. There is no shortage of salad places in this area, but this one is one of the best I've tried so far. For some unexplained reason, after waiting half my life in line to get my over-priced salad, the guy who prepared my salad singled me out by bringing my salad to the cashier rather than handing it to me to stand in line and pay like everybody else. When I inquired, the cashier just smiled and shrugged as I handed her my American Express explaining that I have never shoplifted. Holy shhhhhh! This place was so fresh and so damn good it blew my socks off. Wow! Just the right amount of every ingredient was perfectly positioned into my To-Go order. Bursting with flavor. While I love the new location, and the salads are quite tasty, I do believe that the staff should be a bit more selective when prepping the lettuce. For the price that you pay, you shouldn't be given bad lettuce. I recently had the Maui which is made with butter leaf lettuce. However, a majority of the lettuce in the salad was the dark green, outer leaves. Not very appealing ... and definitely what I would throw away if I was making this salad at home. read more

First of all, if this review were based on the customer service, I'd give 5+ stars. The customer service folks are on top of their game. They make me a "special needs" salad that takes into account my annoying food allergies, and they don't break stride. They're friendly, helpful, and faster than all get-out. Amazing. Really and truly the best of the bunch in lunch-rush food service. So naturally I want to leave a tip. But there's no tip jar. Huh. And there's nowhere to add in a tip on the credit card receipt. Huh. GROSS. The least the owners can do is make it *possible* for their stellar staff to get tips, for crying out loud. Also, I've noticed that management has made lots of cost-cutting decisions, including: 1. Smaller salads for the same price the larger models used to cost. 2. Apparently ordering fewer ingredients, figuring that even if they consistently run out of your favorite things, you'll have already sacrificed your lunch time to their line so you'll still order SOMETHING. 3. Bad ingredient substitutions--i.e. weird measly little potato cubes instead of whole new potatoes roasted in truffle oil, again for the same price that the old, better model used to cost. It used to be a lot yummier and more satisfying to get lunch here, but the food has diminished in both quality and quantity. And now that I realize there's no way to leave a tip, I'm mightily unappetized in any case. If I had a lower rating, I would have give it for the overpriced salads and the horrible service. The lady who runs the place during lunch hour is horrible with no professionalism. Save your money and time and go eat somewhere better. Management needs to look into improving the service quality. The salads are a hit or miss (most of the time a miss) as new trainees often put too much dressing without any spending any proper time to properly mix the salad.
