First, thanks Annie C for organizing Reno Foodies Sushi get together. This was my first event with the Reno Foodies. As always its great to get together with fellow Yelpers & Facebookers . Today besides meeting Annie, we sat near Jeana R & Alex R and Chris & Bob and enjoyed our time chatting and getting to know them. At a Sushi bar, it's hard to talk and meet with everyone. The sushi was okay, but I was not wowed. The service we had was excellent and friendly. And because it was a tasting arranged by Annie, a few special dishes were prepared and passed around for everyone to taste. In addition, our $30 got us all you can eat, including tax & tip. On the whole it was a great early dinner, and I'm looking forward to other "Foodie" events. Reno has so many sushi options these days, and if I were up at the Renown Hospital area (just across the street), and in a mood of sushi, I would definitely eat here. Been going to this place for years. Ordered the hurricane roll to go as I usually do. The menu states this roll comes with cream cheese. Got home and only 1 piece of the long roll had cream cheese on the top (which is my favorite part). When i mentioned this, the. lady told me that yes only one or two of the slices get cream cheese on top and then said if I wanted more cream cheese I need to ask for it. There're so many options when it comes to AYCE Sushi in Reno, so when I asked a local they suggested us to try the new Pisces Sushi. Once you walk in your quickly greeted and asked if you would like to sit at the sushi bar or table. We opted for a table since our party was big. Service was spot on in regards to getting our drinks started and asking if we were having the AYCE option or ordering ala-carte. If you like tea you gotta have their brown rice green tea. Very yummy in flavor. Kinda like a Korean tea but less toasty. They had Cajun Seared Tuna that was a must try for us, it was different from the seared tuna I'm use to but I must say it was very good. Next we opted for rolls as Reno is famous for the presentation of rolls as they don't have that many fresh items as we're used to in the Bay Area, but non the less it was presented very nicely. Our favorites were: Golden Gate Crystal Roll Blue Moon Sunflower I personally don't like cream cheese in my sushi but hey if others like it, kudos to them. I prefer to opt it out and the dish was awesome. I love sushi so when the rolls came out nice and small vs other AYCE that have an abundance of rice, this was a nice change. Items that were least favorite were: The Green Apple Roll - it was very different to say the least. I'd say I'm not a fan of sweet sushi but hey give it a try and see for yourself. To me it reminded me of Halloween in which it tasted like a candy apple and the orange reminded me of pumpkins. Lol... The miso soup - I love miso but all I got was miso. It was so salty that Me So Not wanted to drink it. The Cotton Candy - if you like baked rolls this was ok but it depended on the chef. The first one we order the chef was very heavy handed in the sauce and the roll was swimming in it, I had to use a spoon to eat it. (A first for me) My late arrival party came and ordered another one and it came out with less sauce and it was much better. (We did not mention anything about the first roll swimming.) The baked diced scallops were still very good. All in all a great experience. Nice ambulance with TV's so you can watch your favorite sports. ((Go WARRIORS)) Good service very attentive. (She was cute too.) Great sushi that needs minor adjustments in some areas of consistency but stellar as far as AYCE. Pisces gets some really great reviews, but this AYCE option on South Meadows seemed to not be speaking my language during my recent attempt at trying a new place. The service was good, but I generally wasn't super excited about what they were offering. Fish here was about standard for Reno with regards to freshness and flavor, but wasn't really a shining star among all of the other options we have available to us. There was a decent ratio of rice to fish, but that doesn't really matter if the rice falls apart as you dip it into your soy sauce/wasabi sludge. They do have a ton of options with regards to appetizers and the cajun tuna is a really nice change of pace. In addition, spicy tuna is usually chopped so fine it becomes almost more of a paste, but Pisces left the pieces slightly larger giving it a better texture. While there were some positives, definitely avoid the green apple roll--it has a weird texture, not very good flavor, and the pieces of salmon along the top are so thin that you can barely taste them. So overall, not terrible, but not super motivating to go back either. read more

By far my new favorite sushi restaurant. The price is per usual AYCE sushi but the menu is far superior. They have various appetizers but include the infamous Yakiton and baked mussels. They also have mussel crunch which is panko fried mussels, delicious!!! The fish is extremely fresh, delicious, and service is fabulous. I tend to order the same things at sushi restaurants but I'm telling you, the taste here is unmatchable. The Gemini is my favorite roll that is beautifully plated and topped with spicy crab mix. Unfortunately, since there are so many sushi restaurants here in Reno this was one of them that wasn't all that fascinating. The service was nice but when we sat down we waited for someone to ask us what we wanted until I had to ask a chef that wasn't our chef and then our chef overheard and said oh I can help you!? I was like oh ok. But you were standing there for awhile with is sitting here waiting to order? Anyway my first experience here, although I don't see myself driving all the way across town for a place that didn't wow me. For all you sushi lovers out there you know what I mean by the wow every bite of sushi you eat is like an art and just melts in your mouth. The flavors all put together just come together as one big flavor and you just crave it more and more. My husband and I, well we were craving sushi for awhile and was so excited to come to a Reno foodies get together. For the price of $30 for all you can eat including appetizer and dessert and tip. I guess that was a good deal but a lot of places are very similar in price. After we ate we didn't feel satisfied like we normally do. Really satisfying AYCE Sushi meal. The servers are super nice. My kids love the appetizers: calamari rings, fried mozzarella and gyoza. What mommy liked was the kids price-$12.95 lunch/ $16.95 dinner. Plenty of rolls to choose from the cotton candy was too sweet for me, but some folks like that. What I found was unique was the Rodeo roll which was a deep fried spam musubi roll. Reno has these staples that every sushi bar carries. Mickie mouse, upside down shrimp, Donald Duck and they are pretty made here. Curious if anyone knows where these sushi dishes originated. Everyone does them just a little different. First time here. My husband and my 8-year-old son were with me. It's a fairly small Place but nicely lit and with background music that was not too loud. We sat at the bar and I have to say the chef was friendly and efficient. He was quite entertaining to watch as well. My husband loved the hurricane roll while my fav was probably the 1080 scallop roll. The hot tea isn't the usual tea bag in a silver pot. It was actual loose leaf tea in a pretty ceramic pot with a tea screen. Very nice. I would recommend this place and will come here again if in the area. read more

This place is totally a hidden gem. I mean, it may not be hidden, but we drove from north Reno for the sushi and it was worth every penny. We picked up to go sushi for my boyfriend and I's anniversary, and we were looking for a new place to try that did take out. They have a super good deal on two, three, or four roll combos. I got the three for $20 and my BF got the four for $25! We also ordered a three-piece side of potstickers (gyoza's), and were treated to a hand written note stating that the gyoza's are "on us". Since moving to the south end of town this is now the closest sushi restaurant to our house and that's both amazing and bad. Bad because I want to go here all the time and usually do. Amazing because the quality of the seafood is top notch! Super fresh fish with the perfect portion of rice to meat. I'm a sucker for nigiri and they have a great selection. I would definitely recommend their cajun tuna and the snow white. The cajun tuna has more of a traditional cajun flavor which I think some other spots miss and the Snow White is like a Mickey Mouse (seared tuna, avocado, imitation crab, Sriracha, rice and sweet sauce) but with hamachi instead of tuna and IT IS SO GOOD. We did a pick up order and the process went smooth and easy. They do a to go special and we got 3 rolls for $20. I believe it is 2 for $15, 3 for $20, and 4 for $25. The to go order had everything you needed and or you'd get dining in. Ginger, wasabi, soy sauce etc. We have dined in before and everything was great then also, excluding my monster toddler. Husband ordered spicy tuna roll and I did the blossom and to be honest I can't remember what the 3rd roll was but they were all amazing! I know it's been a while since we have all had to interact with people, but the hostess was quite unfriendly. Tried calling for 45 minutes to place the order over the phone. Gave up and went to Pisces in person to place our order. There was 1 person in front of me placing an order. 2 other people came in behind me. I told the hostess that I needed to place an order as well. She ignored me and helped the 2 people who came in behind me with their pickup orders. Ok. I'm pretty chill, so I let it go. I ordered 12 rolls, 2 gyoza, 1 edamame and 8 salmon nigiri. My order was already written down before I walked in the door since I had tried to call in my order. We were told our order would be ready in 20-25 minutes. I paid and tipped well. We waited in the parking lot. After 30 minutes, I went in to check my order status. I was told that it was a "huge order" and wasn't ready. I watched people who came in after me and ordered 4 or 8 rolls pick up their order and stroll away. We finally received our sushi after 55 minutes - not 25 minutes. The good news is that the sushi was quite good. Will I wait again for an hour for a to-go order from here and have to deal with a rude hostess? Probably not. read more
