The decor of this restaurant is nice, feels like I was in the French quarter. The customer service was great, the chef even came out to check on us. The drinks I got were good but not the strongest. My friends loved their old fashions. I like the seafood egg rolls but don't think the pepper jelly that comes with it pairs well. The seafood pasta was very spicy, wasn't expecting that. It was hard to eat because of the spice. I would also use a different noodle. My fried got the fried chicken and that was amazing. The dessert menu was disappointing. They change it often which I don't understand. I ended up just getting the praline ice cream which was really good. My expectations were high because the reviews were so good. I wasn't disappointed with the service or the food. Madeleine was attentive, nice and played along with singing happy bday. I was celebrating my bday month and she made sure I had a good experience. Her recommendations were spot on. We shared 2 entrees: breakfast burger with cracklings and catfish and grits. Tequila pineapple margarita was strong and hit the spot pretty quickly. You will only need one drink. I saw that this place was opening up around a week or two ago, and while I didn't go right away, I finally decided to go today. When I arrived, the parking space wasn't anything special, but it seemed adequate enough to find a spot even on a busy day; additionally, they share parking spots with the next-door establishment, so there are more nearby spots if there aren't any available; regardless, I had no trouble finding a spot. Now, my main concern was that when entering the premises, as you can see in the photo, there are two flights of stairs. While this is a very beautiful entrance, the flaw is that those two flights of stairs may seem very discouraging to those who are unable to go up stairs. From what I saw, there wasn't really any accommodations for those who may require extra assistance, such as a ramp. Which may not seem like a big thing to others, but as someone who has a relative who uses a wheelchair, it is extremely disheartening to bring them to restaurants with these types of entrances. Irrespectively, keep in mind that these were just my observations, so it's possible they have another entrance, but from the looks of it, they don't. Although, I'm still optimistic about the situation because I noticed construction continuing along one of the outer walls, so perhaps better access to the entrance will be available soon. Getting into the atmosphere of the restaurant right now, it's a compact space with limited seats, so I can see why reservations could be necessary in the future if it grows in popularity. The inside was a lovely modest take on French New Orleans culture, with navy blue wallpaper with gold embossed fleur-de-lis, a marble bar with gold flourishes, indoor and outdoor stained glass acquired from all throughout North Texas, and plush, cozy booth seating. (Eater Dallas interior photos) The food itself is inspired by Creole, Cajun, and Louisiana cuisine. I was fortunate enough to have their mammaw's fried chicken, and let me tell you, it was crunchy just enough to make it lovely, which of course means it was very crispy, as well as slightly juicy but not too much. Then they plated the plate with what I believe was honey, making it a really sweet twist on fried chicken. I'm a spicy man, so it was good to have something sweet for a change, and it was all topped off with a nice fluffy biscuit. Aside from that, I think if the chicken had a little more flavor or was a little juicier, it would be a really excellent pick for anyone to acquire; however, the chicken was still fantastic. I followed the main dish with a small dish of dirty rice, which was possibly the best part of my visit; I only wish the portion had been a little larger, but that was potentially some of the tastiest rice I've had in a long time, so if it's available when y'all go, I would definitely recommend giving the dirty rice a try, though be aware it was a little greasy. Finally, I finished off my dinner with a six-layer strawberry dessert. The cake itself was light and fluffy, and what I liked best about it was that it wasn't excessively sugary, but just right, making it an excellent way to close the dinner. Overall, I give the meal a four-star rating, and I would have given the restaurant a four-star rating if it weren't for the personnel, who were extremely pleasant and polite, ensuring that you felt confident throughout the journey and that you were satisfied. For example, I had an issue near the conclusion of my meal, and the person who assisted me was swift and adaptable; she promptly handed me my bill and then, without asking, gave me a to-go box in case I wanted to take the dessert with me. Which just goes to show how much the staff cares about their guests, and the cherry on the top is that the restaurant itself follows an intentional policy of honoring all ingredients and minimizing waste, which, if true, just adds to the reasons why one should support this business. As a result of that mission statement and the wonderful employees, I believe this is currently a 5 star establishment. My girlfriend and I had an awesome experience here. The food was really really good. This place is a fancy cajun restaurant - think, high-end New Orleans style restaurant that focuses on locally-sourced foods and everything made in house, even their hot sauce, which is DOPE. Best hot sauce ever. We got the fried chicken - much better than Popeyes (and Popeyes is dope, don't hate). We also got their surf and turf special, which was a delicious steak and a lobster boudin. I had never had had lobster boudin. It's good. We also did it up with some mama mia oysters. On the half shell, yo. I totally recommend their food. So happy this placed opened up down the street from me. But, the best part was definitely the service. The staff were super nice. Shout out to Panda, our server, who did a great job and took the time to get to know us. We had an amazing brunch at Restaurant Beatrice. Our server, Ebonee, was excellent and the manager, Romona, was involved in the movement of the staff as well as checking on all of the tables. The restaurant does a great job of transporting its customers to New Orleans through both the decor and the food. We ordered the Beatrice Breakfast and the Bananas Foster Pan Perdu. I wanted to treat my friend for her birthday. Restaurant Beatrice just opened and I was immediately intrigued with their sustainability mission to use local foods while reducing food waste. The menu also looked amazing with great vegan options - even though I'm not vegan but do appreciate well prepared vegan meals that are tasty. I didn't take pictures because I wanted to fully be present with the food and my friend for her birthday. We started our meal with the tequila old fashioned (I forgot the name). I'm not a cocktails person since I prefer my liquor neat. This was a very tasty old fashioned that was perfect. We had the charbroiled oysters as an appetizer. For dinner, I chose the vegan jambalaya and my friend chose the Cajun carbonara. The vegan jambalaya was seasoned well with all the right spices. It wasn't like a runny jambalaya that you'd get elsewhere. The vegan sausage was delicious and had a nice bite to it. It wasn't a Beyond Meat or Impossible Meat crap; it was homemade and in a vegan sausage casing as well. I am not vegan and I would gladly have this dish as part of my dinner rotation! My friend really enjoyed her Cajun carbonara with the freshly made pasta. We had a glass of cabernet of our dinner and the selection was an excellent pairing with the meal. Because of the restaurant's sustainability mission to reduce food waste, the portions were perfectly sized and we were perfectly satiated. We had room for dessert! For dessert, we chose the blueberry cobbler with a glass of port each. It was freshly made and came out to us piping hot. Not too sweet and not too rich. Perfect. My friend was gifted a small jar of freshly made strawberry preserves for her birthday. It was a great touch! Service was attentive and really respectful and friendly. Hello DFW! Today was a beautiful Saturday and began with the usual search for brunch. Our selection is Restaurant Beatrice (RB), a hidden gem located between Trinity Groves and Bishop Arts. My rating is only for service. I arrive around 11:20 a.m.; the walk-up is enchanting and brought back fond memories of New Orleans. Up the steps and through the outdoor patio is a quaint dining area. A small lot for parking is situated between RB and the neighboring building. Upon entering, I inform the hostess of my party of two. A gentleman from behind the bar comes to tell me about drinks on the back of the menu - I order coffee. I would suggest reservations, as the dining area is very intimate. There weren't many diners during my visit (a party of around six seated at the back of the restaurant, a couple near the front and a gentleman at the bar). Service seemed rather relaxed. The gentleman from behind the bar had limited knowledge surrounding the history of RB or the prominently placed portrait, which I assumed was a nod to Beatrice. My hostess was "new" and didn't know much about the menu. At 11:50 a.m. my friend called. She is at the "other" establishment we discussed, forty minutes away. We decided to stay at our respective locations and meet afterward to compare notes. I inform the hostess and she said she would let my server know. Another gentleman comes to confirm the number in my party has changed and that I will be remaining and dining solo. He removes the second water and place setting and goes to the bar to notify the first gentleman that brought my coffee. There is a tense exchange between the two, and it was apparent they disagree about how to resolve whatever the problem is. I hear the second gentleman ask the first, "well how do 'you' think we should handle it", to which he replies with shrugged shoulders. A table of six to seven is seated to my left. The second gentleman, the one that confirmed I would be staying, immediately approaches the table and begins filling glasses with water. He asks if the entire party has arrived and begins telling them about the daily specials and recommendations. WAIT! Where and who is my server? Am I entitled to information about the specials? Is "this" what the exchange is about? Are the servers at RB hustling tables? I don't know, and didn't hang around to find out. I was super excited to try this place as Cajun creole cuisine is a favorite! However, I was left sadly disappointed. We ordered the crawfish beignets as an appetizer, and these were good (sadly they were the only thing that was worth getting). We also ordered the BBQ shrimp, which was a tiny portion size (only like 5 shrimp) and could use a bit more flavor. And a side of okra fries and dirty rice which was just okay (but definitely overpriced as the okra was $16). We also ordered the charbroiled oysters (which were a hefty price compared to other places) and they were severely overcooked to the point where the cheese was hard and we had to use spoons to dig the oyster out of its shell. When we mentioned this to the waiter and showed him, he agreed that this was NOT how the oysters were supposed to come out and were overcooked. However, there was no offer to replace the bad oysters given to us with a new batch of oysters or something else, which felt like his response to our complaint was like "oh well, just deal with it". The very mid taste of the overpriced food and the response to the admittedly bad oysters that were given is the reason I wouldn't go back or recommend to anyone else to go this place. read more

Beatrice is wonderful! We had a delightful early dinner last weekend and loved the look, vibe, food and drinks. We had the grilled oysters, peach salad, gumbo, fish special, etoufee special and an incredible slice of lemon blackberry cake. Everything was delicious. Everything is cooked to order so don't expect a fast delivery. The only reason I gave 4 stars was because of the $12 hot sauce! You heard that right! I asked for a side of hot sauce for my potatoes and the waitress brought me a condiment cup of it. When I went to check out, I realized they charged me $12 for that! The burger was only $20. We arrived for a 6 pm reservation on a Thursday evening and we were seated timely. There were perhaps 8 other people in the restaurant and even tho our drink order - very simple order - it was over 20 minutes before our drinks were served - just the wine and then 10 more minutes before a martini was received. We order the oysters - East Coast we were advised - the waitress kept describing them as baked and when I said their menu states they are charbroiled she just looked at us and kept saying baked. They were about nickel sized at best. We ordered the special - blackened fish over risotto. It was dry and tasteless. This is sad as my first experience here was far far better. We sat at our table for nearly twenty-five minutes before a server so much as greeted us. After an apology, a fried green tomato plate made its way to the table. The complimentary glass of cheap prosecco could not wash down the chewy tomato and slightly bitter sauce fast enough. The namesake oysters Beatrice we ordered must have sat too long somewhere after the "creamed greens" had every once of moisture cooked out of them. They were cold. I imagine licking grandma's ashtray would taste akin to my first bite of the Jambalaya with chicken. A small portion of overcooked rice, the sad bird laying on top met a worse fate. Like a mummified corpse on a funeral pyre, somewhere deep in the back of a smoker it had dried out and shriveled up to nearly the size of a pigeon. What little skin remained was so hard and crunchy, it sounded like eating peanut brittle. For hours afterward the acrid taste lingered to the point that with each burp I expected a puff of smoke to follow. My partner's carbonara dish was no better. A sauceless, trivial portion of over cooked pasta with a lump of coagulated cheese served slightly under room temperature. Granted, sometimes a restaurant has a bad night. Therefore, I always try to find one redeeming quality in a dining experience. I admit, the breadbasket was somewhat acceptable, despite the hot water cornbread tasting of fryer grease. read more

The food is great as well as the drinks. My second visit here was today. Service was slow. I didn't ask for a manager while there however Chef Terance (who was oddly aggressive) came over to our table and said he heard we were not satisfied with the service. Up until this point we hadn't said this to anyone outside of me saying the waitress to put in a second round of drinks immediately because the first ones took 45 minutes. We finally got and finished our food. My spouse ordered the cake and one of our friends ordered the bread pudding to go. We got home and we had the bread pudding and our friend had our cake. I decided to call at 4:18 and asked for a manager to call me. The lady said they were closed and would have someone call. At 6:17pm I receive a very long email saying that my complaint had been investigated. Umm...what complaint? I only asked for a manager to call. So very typical for this type of establishment. Instead of listening to a customer they automatically become defensive. Short of this all is I won't be back even though they do have good food. My suggestion is to have additional staff on your weekends and provide Chef Terance some coaching on how to address your paying customers. I hate when my expectations are not met. Gumbo had 1-2 pieces of okra, house made andouille lacked flavor, almost tasted like spam with no spice, no crawfish meat present. Shrimp and grits- the tomato gravy was rich, thick and overpowering and covered the shrimp and grits to the point you could not taste the shrimp or the grits. Bread pudding tasted previously frozen, dry like and very firm. For a 5 PM reservation there is no excuse for the food coming out the kitchen to not be fresh tasting unless it's been previously frozen or the ingredients sub par. read more

I've been trying to get a reservation at this Oak Cliff gem for a while. Our party of 4 finally got a late reservation. The restaurant was quaint, very NOLA style. It is small and the noise level was a little high, nothing intolerable. We order the raw Oysters with Pomegranate Mignonette. These were so delicious. We also ordered a Vietnamese pork egg roll that was over cooked and lacked flavor. The pickled relish was the only good thing about the dish. I don't know if perhaps they sat under a Salamander too long? Next up was Shrimp and grits. The grits were cooked to absolute perfection! We also ordered the fried chicken- really crispy and tasty. Not the best ever, but delicious. The blackened trout with Cajun rice was good, would have liked to see a whole trout on the plate rather than what appeared to be just chunks of fish. The best dish we ordered was the VEGAN Jambalaya! YES I said VEGAN. The red bean sausage patty was outstanding. This is the dish to order! The oyster salad was good, but the oysters were over battered. The food will not disappoint but their wine and beer list surely will. Basic was an understatement. I expected a lot more from an James Beard award nomination. The beer and wine selection appeared to have little thought to potential pairings. Seems the waitress admitted the beer selections were super basic. I opted for a gin drink that was tasty. One of my pet peeves are split charges for a dish. We found this to be the case here. We were charged $3.00 to split the salad, oh and get this.....I ordered butter for the roll that came with the fried chicken and I was charged $1.00. I know it's made in house but this is crazy. It's the little things like this that with so many choices with regards to restaurants in Dallas that will make customers think twice when they make their dining choices. I'm surprised this place has such good reviews. I wanted to like Restaurant Beatrice so much. The food was underwhelming and expensive. Unfortunately this place was all smoke and mirrors. There is a reason ppl love cajun/Louisianan food and it's not because its fancy. Part of the charm of cajun food is the accessibility of the food being for everyone and unfortunately this restaurant misses that concept by embellishing southern Louisiana cuisine, taking out the authentic flavors and putting it on a fancy plate. I had a pasta ($40) and my mother had the fried chicken ($40) the chicken was juicy, but had no flavor and they charged us $2 +tax for hot sauce. Which was funny given that was the only reason the dish was salvaged! I'll try any OC establishment once, but I won't be back; probably a cute place for a cocktail at the bar though (drinks range from $18+ so may be better to visit a real craft cocktail lounge at that price point) read more

I was excited to try this place. However, we went on a Sunday for late brunch. With such a small space, I don't know how but there were 20+ flies swarming everywhere. They placed the fly away fans on the table but it didn't deter any. Two of us ordered shrimp and grits which is a tomato based- this is not the norm and the waitress didn't tell us either. We split a bottle of Prosecco and the waitress asked if we would like any juice. We said sure bring all three- pineapple, orange, and cranberry. Now, we like our mimosas like our men, transparent, so not much juice was used. Colored me surprised when each bottle of juice was $8 so $24 total. We asked and were told everything is hand squeezed. I would like to see the hand squeezed cranberries. The manger did ask how our meal was and when we told her, we're met with a sympathetic smile and nothing else. Strike 1 was the flies. Strike 2 was the tomato shrimp and grits. Strike 3 was the $8 bottle of juice x 3. Would not recommend. Will not go back. Restaurant Beatrice is in the home of the old Jonathan's but has gone through major renovations. The patio is reserved for more casual dining and includes seafood boils. It's a major plus that the patio was fully covered. The chef on the patio is the epitome of southern hospitality. Off his energy alone, I plan to revisit to try the crawfish outside. Inside is more cloth napkin and fork dining. I was the first reservation of the evening, and so we were seated by the owner. She gave us these cute cocktail books (very nice touch). I thoroughly enjoyed my cocktail which had rosemary and grapefruit. The charbroiled oysters were very good, but only come two to an order. I could have eaten those all night. The okra fries and the dipping sauce had me coming back for more as well. The fried chicken was good but I've had better, but the presentation and service was impeccable. Great service and food. We were first greeting by the awesome smell of boiled seafood but decided to go inside and try the food off the regular menu. We were first greeting by the owner who surprising was very humble and didn't mind bringing us to our seats and chatting it up which was very nice. She made sure that we had our starter drinks before our server took over. The server and I am so sorry I forgot her name gave some off the menu recommendations that were just awesome. The fried green tomatoes were perfectly fried just like my mother use to make. The boudin egg rolls had such a robust flavor that I could I have just ate them as an entree by themselves. After eating these it was on too the Shrimp and Grits and the Carbonara. Me being a grits lover and pasta lover I had a problem deciding on which dish so I choose both. The Carbonara was must try and I absolutely loved it, very tasty with a good portion of sausage. The Grits were Ok, I've had better and worst but I wouldn't get it again because of how picky I am with this dish. Now the dessert...that bread pudding. Must try if you are a bread pudding fan. One of the best Ive had in Dallas. The head chef even came out and took a moment to chat with us. We found out we had a lot in common and even grew up in the same neighborhood in New Orleans. My husband and I had the pleasure of checking out this new spot a few weekends ago, and I'm so glad we dropped in. We didn't have a reservation but the host was able to squeeze us in. The inside of the restaurant is very quaint, but there is also a patio area directly out front. If you want to sit inside and avoid some of the heat during the "dog days of summer," I would recommend making reservations. Our waiter was great and very honest about the dishes he would recommend. We tried the Louisiana Charcuterie and the charbroiled oysters as an appetizer. The boudin lollipops (one of the dishes in the charcuterie option) were awesome, and the oysters were great but small in size. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and my husband had the Cajun Carbonara. Even though I enjoyed my dish, I will definitely order the Carbonara next time. I also interacted with other customers that said the chicken was phenomenal. was a pleasure to see Michelle again after many visits to Yamaguuchi's in the past. food was beyond wonderful withj excellent service. loved both gumbos and the eggplant pirouge. Hnery's praline icecream on the bread pudding was heavenly-certainly big enough to share.( Chef Terrance had a hand in the creation of the icecream) Terrance was most hospitable even escorting me to my car since I am on a walker, and parking is not easy. definitely will go back again-working my way through the menu. read more

I love Restaurant Beatrice, it's the perfect place for intimate meal. You have to get the creamed greens you will not be disappointed. The service is great and food is amazing. The desserts are so delicious. read more
