Kudos for taking my review and making some changes for the better. We were greeted nicely today with our children. I also noticed they made space to accommodate our folded stroller. The waiter was so nice and brought over crayons for the kids to color. I was really impressed with the children's menus they gave my kids. We ordered a la carte from the regular menu because they are used to eating from our food. We had the spinach salad with warm goat cheese which was beautifully balanced and we had a heaping portion. Then had a tartufo pizza which was delicious! Even my daughter who is 4 loved it. In addition we had two pastas penne vodka and spaghetti funghi both were aldente. Since the penne came earlier for the kids and was cold, waiter brought over hot sauce for me to pour over. To finish the meal we ended with a creme brule perfection! I always pass Serafina on my way to Central Park and each time I would think to myself "this would be such a nice place to eat at outside" especially on a nice warm summer day. I decided to eat lunch here on a Saturday around 2pm because I wanted to take advantage of their outdoor seating (and my ability to eat lunch with dog company) before summer was over. Upon arriving to the restaurant we were seated immediately outside as requested. The servers were quick to bring out menus and ask if we had any questions. Since Serafina is an Italian restaurant we felt obligated to order pizza and pasta- and they did not disappoint! The Food: - Raviola Alla Salla - That's spinach and ricotta ravioli for the non-Italian folks. This was absolutely delicious! You can't beat homemade pasta and the butter sage sauce on top was a nice compliment to the pasta. My only issue with the dish was that for $19 lunch/dinner entree I was expecting a little more food than I received. I left a little hungry from just eating the entree, probably should've ordered an appetizer as well in retrospect. - All'ovo Pizza - Mmmm this pizza was also delicious. Thin crust cooked perfectly! Their tomato sauce on the pizza was SO good, it tasted like they had just grated a fresh tomato on top which is a nice break from over-engineered tomato sauces which taste too much like canned tomato paste. Service was attentive and ambiance caters to many including families and children. The place was bustling for Tuesday dinner and we came here casual work dinner. Great place if you love pasta. The menu has something for everyone. I don't love pasta so i didn't order any. I thoroughly enjoyed the branzino in wine sauce with asparagus and roasted potatoes. The server just took our plate without asking if we were done. It seemed like he wanted us to get out of the restaurant. I'm not sure if people eat risotto with fork but didn't offer if we want spoon when the food was served. We had to ask for it. The server also forgot one of our drinks and we had to remind him. I recently had the opportunity to go to Serafina's on 61st for the first time but I can assure you it will not be my last. The wait staff was exceptional fully knowledgeable in both food and the wine, as well as welcoming and friendly. The food was excellent (And I recommend saving room for the tiramisu.) We were there for a private party with a prix fixe menu. The service was solid, decor is very cozy. Honestly, what stands out to me as outstanding as I reflect, was that the mozzarella that was served with the prosciutto was probably the best mozzarella I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. It was so perfectly seasoned that I'm practically drooling just thinking about it. Everything else we ate was good, but the mozzarella? Amazeballs. Came in after shopping on 5th with some friends. We were promptly seated upstairs and had our drink order taken. They had the customary typical Italian beers, Moretti and Peroni but sadly no Menabrea. I went with a Moretti and we ordered the prosciutto and burrata appetizer along with fried calamari. The burrata was very good, it was fresh, creamy and flavorful. The calamari was also very good, crispy and light, and came with a well-seasoned marinara. We split a few pizzas as entrees with the Quattro Stagione being the best as it had a good mix of ingredients and was light and crisp. Beware the $20 food minimum. At my suggestion, my daughter and five friends ate here last night. It was nearby and seemed like a good place for six teenagers to go, share some pizzas, and not spend a fortune on ridiculously pricey entrees. Although they liked the food, they found the staff hostile and were alarmed to find out that they each had to order at least $20 worth of food (overpriced sodas didn't count), because it was "rush hour." This was in fact stated on the menu, minus any actual indication of what that means, and when asked for the specific time frame for "rush hour," the waiter simply ignored them. To make things worse, a 20% gratuity was added to the bill, which I understand, but it certainly wasn't earned by a wait staff that was surly, ignored them, and never even bothered to bring bread, despite being asked several times. Finally, when I went to meet my daughter there, I told the host that I, a woman of color, was looking for her. He told me, "No, we don't have any people like that here." I started this review a few years ago and just realized that it was never published. But those bad feelings persist, and I have to wonder if anything has changed. read more

Delicious. I came here with my friend after work and was really pleasantly surprised by the food and service. There was a large party behind us celebrating someone's 18th birthday, and a few other sizable parties scattered throughout, but we were seated and served promptly. We started with some bread and olive oil, as well as minestrone soup. The minestrone was really good, and very authentic tasting. For my friend's main course, he had a whole wheat penne dish, and I had the vegetarian platter. So delicious. The vegetarian platter was full of delicious vegetables, including a heaping tower of spaghetti squash. I had never had it before, and was so surprised and delighted by its texture and how it complemented the vegetables. My friend also had a glass of pinot noir, which he seemed to enjoy, but I kept it wine-free for the night. I'd definitely come back to Serafina. I'll end the same way I started: delicious. read more

Food: UGH! My food. I will say this Serafina is my favorite in NYC. Its smaller than the other locations but my food is always completely perfect. Ice cold salads, perfectly cooked gnocchi. Just divine. Staff: this is where my four stars come in. Overall staff was great. Our waiter was so kind, even noticed our wobbly table and fixed it immediately. Water is always filled. We sat pretty far from the door and the waiter came over again and again to check in, bring us anything we needed, etc. The hostess on 10/6 at 6:15pm however was so not the vibe. I had a reservation and requested outside seating as my mom is still not comfortable enough indoor dining yet. The restaurant was empty when we arrived and everyone seemed in good spirits. Originally we were walked to a 2 top table right in the middle of two other tables. I'm talking like my booty would hit their hand as I went to the inside seat close. The second she started heading there I knew it would just make my mom anxious to sit there and you cant be sad and anxious eating pasta! If you know this location there is a parking garage next door and then after that there are actually 2 more Serafina tables. Honestly, for likely anyone in the universe except covid weary people this is a horror table. I mean your server has to legit cross in front of a parking garage to get you your food. BUT to my Covid weary mother this table is the best table in the house. We were in such a happy mood honestly and I approached the hostess who just placed our menus down (keep in mind this all happened in a matter of maybe 20 seconds) and asked if we could sit at the two top over by the parking garage as were just not that comfortable yet sitting this close to people. Without speaking she picked up the menus walked over to the table and legitimately slammed down the menus on the table. So loud and forceful that's when we realized the table was uneven because it shook and at that point we were still before the parking garage and we heard it slam with the other guest waiting. There were also two other young women waiting to be seated and they looked and me and my mom and out loud were like "what was that?! to which we all shared a little giggle. This is not a huge deal but with such a cheerful restaurant staff you would think they would hire a happier hostess. Service is so lousy that it's almost a joke. Waiters brought over all our food and forgot to bring plates larger than bread plates. Took over 30 min to receive basic drink orders. Food was just okay and comes out so fast before the drinks that you're basically done with dinner before you have a sip of alcohol. I recently stopped by this location as Serafina is always recommended as a kid-friendly restaurant. There were plenty of other kids there. However, while we were waiting for the waiter to take our order, one preschooler was hungry and started eating a snack (1 hard boiled egg). The waiter proceeded to explain to us that the Dept of Health would not want us to bring outside food. This is the first I've encountered this, especially since there are plenty of children with allergies who cannot eat what's on the menu. Separately, the food was pretty mediocre. read more

This restaurant has been on my list for years after being highly recommended by a close friend. It was pure coincidence that it was conveniently located next to the parking garage I was parked in and they just opened for lunch(luck was on my side that day ). My friend and I just finished our morning makeup class and walked in with growling, empty stomachs while being greeted by a friendly hostess whom seated us right away ( score once again ). The waiter fastly approached us with the option of tap or bottled water and an introduction of the menu. We took a couple of minutes to actually take in the menu -- can you say options galore!?! Yes, it was a good thing they had many food items to choose from but when your stomach is screaming feed me, and your indecisiveness starts kicking in and you find yourself bouncing around the menu as your taste buds are doing the dance of excitement.... let's just a couple of minutes turned into 20 minutes before my friend and I placed our order . We ordered the Avocado "San Pietro" which is Avocado & baby shrimps, arugula, grape tomatoes & cannellini beans in a champagne mustard sauce and I have to say it was quite delicious! For my main entree, I kept it simple ( I know I know... after all that time surfing through the menu) and ordered one of their signature dishes - Penne All'Arrabbiata which is a spicy tomato sauce with parsley and crushed red pepper with spaghetti instead of penne and I have to say it was prob one of the best spaghettis I've ever had. All in all, I'm glad I got experience Serafina. My experience was great from the attentive staff to the great food. We decided to try this restaurant because it was close to our hotel. We had made a reservation and that was a good thing, the place was packed on this Saturday night. It's kind of small, with a large bar I the middle (I'm not sure if there is tables upstairs as well, there could be). The air conditioning was on maximum, which was a bit too much for my taste and the room was so noisy, it was really hard to have a conversation. We had the burger and a calzone and a bottle of Pinot Grigio. The food and wine was really good. We had coffee afterwards. I wanted limoncello, but the waiter said they were all out. Hmm an Italian restaurant that runs out of limoncello, not good. Apparently he found something, but it seemed like it had been frozen and didn't really taste the way it should. A little point for the effort though. The service could have been a little better, of course they were really busy, but I still expect some service, especially if you are to leave a tip. This review is long overdue. I was in Manhattan with a good friend of mine for a few days in October last year before setting sail on a cruise to Bermuda. We stayed at the Loews on Park Avenue. While shopping for some last minute items to take on the cruise, we were also looking for a place to have lunch. Serafina was around the corner from the Loews so we decided to have lunch there. We couldn't have made a better choice. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the Rigatoni alla Bolognese and loved it! We live in the neighborhood and this is sort of the lazy man's choice that always seems to have space available and is low key versus the likes of Lavo nearby. We asked for fresh, warm bread but they said they didn't have any.
