ShaBushi recently changed its format to become an "All You Can Eat" structure - including sushi. The shabu shabu was good as usual, despite different cuts, and I really like the pork belly addition I think that was superior. Broths were great. But the all you can eat format means that your beef comes out in small portions as you need it, and so your small table gets even smaller and you get buried in serving plates... this despite the amazing service. I have to say the service was really phenomenal. I am glad the window is open and the added tables were brought in. The presentation of "all you can eat" sushi is really not very appetizing - a strange business move in this time. They will lose any savings in meat cost with labor and utilities. I am immune compromised, as are many people are, and it is not recommended for me to eat buffet style. The sushi itself was not as good as in the past either, but I did feel it was carefully controlled. The restaurant is clean, but they need to clean the inside of the hoods until they look pristine. I think if they were having financial problems with the place before, what they need to do is paint the floor, and charge a few bucks more and go back to table service. My first visit got me hooked, so I came again just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, and I came a third time to REALLY make sure it was the real deal- and I'm so happy to finally find the perfect spot so close to home! The food is great, the service is always good, and you really can't beat the price. Arf has been our server twice and she's been nothing but wonderful 100% of the time. Everyone else is also amazing! The tom yum broth is our favorite and we pair it up with the wagyu brisket. Thai iced tea is super yummy but so are the other drinks they have. We even bought bottles to go. This place is always my go-to when I'm craving shabu shabu in the middle of the night, or just need a late-night meal that isn't Korean or fast food. The shabu shabu and sushi here are both just okay. It hits the spot and it's not terrible. It's not the best I've ever had, but it's pretty good considering it's in East Hollywood and I'm there at 12 AM. I'd get their gyudon if you're not feeling shabu shabu or sushi. Again, I'm not sure it's the most amazing place for it but it's pretty darn good when you're starving at 11 PM and heading home from a 10-hour road trip! The place is really small, but service is quick and efficient. The parking is tight as well and we may have been lucky to find a spot on the lot. The food was really good. All of the appetizers were also really good. Just be careful not to fill yourself up on the appetizers or you'll miss out on the hot pot itself, which is the star of the place. My friend and I were craving soup the other night, and after discussing various places we decided to come here! It was my first time trying Japanese hotpot :) We split a large tofu shabu-shabu, and each also ordered a roll of sushi (she chose spicy tuna, and I went with a salmon maki). The hotpot came with a large plate of vegetables (bok choy, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, and enoki mushrooms), and our plate of tofu was about as large. For the broth, we chose sukiyaki. I cannot express how happy I was while eating. The sukiyaki broth made all of the vegetables tender and incredibly yummy. (The only vegetable I couldn't get into was the shiitake mushroom, and that's more of a texture issue than anything else). The dipping sauces were also quite delicious! I attribute eating my weight in tofu from all the pieces I dipped into the peanut sauce :P Our server was very kind and patient with us, considering the large central table with their many dishes, and our changing our order several times. I can truly say this is one of my favorite spots for Shabu Shabu in LA. There may not be a lot of Shabu places in town, but this Thai-owned Shabu Shabu spot is awesome. First off, if you're not a big food and just looking for a lunch stop, Shabushi has a nice lunch menu that isn't too filling and not too expensive. The portion of meat is perfect of lunch and runs maybe $10+. Now for dinner, the large order of the beef or pork is plenty of meat for anyone to handle. Also if you get the veggies, you're in for a full Shabu experience. I'd say if you were a party of two, one person orders the full Shabu set with meat and veggies and the other person can order just the ala carte meat. There's plenty of meat and plenty of veggies to share. The full set might run $20-$24 which the ala carts meat runs about $15-$17. The broths are yummy, get the Shabushi special broth (darker broth which has a nice taste to it). The three dipping sauces are delicious, typical Goma and Ponzu sauce. Did I say Thai owned? Yeah they also have a red "suki" Thai sauce which has a spicy kick to it. Give it a shot. They also sell specialty sushi and the service is pretty awesome. They call the restaurant. The restaurant doesn't pick up their phone. I had to tell the restaurant to pick up. Then they finally acknowledge the order. Then they tell me I have to still wait. The second bok choy the waiter brought to us had APHIDS just chilling on the outer leaves. Before I went to this place I already checked on Yelp and Google that they are closing for break at 3pm. Got there at 2:15pm and I ordered sushi but the waitress told me that it passed the time to make sushi. I knew that she was full of BS because the table across from me they were eating sushi. My husband and I ordered edamame, miso ramen, dragon roll sushi, and Gyuu-Don. Everything was amazing! It was definitely different, as a first timer trying ramen I would say that it is definitely a different taste. I went in with an open mind and it was definitely very good. The soup has a good taste BUT I recommend adding their chili powder to the soup. The chili powder gives the soup a better taste and I love spicy food so to me it made the soup taste better. Their edamame didn't fail, it was super good. The Gyuu-don was similar to a beef bowl with rice but the meat was so much better in taste. The meat was very tender and juicy. Got excited to see a sushi and shabu place. We ended up not eating shabu and got other items. We tried their Tonkotsu ramen and it wasn't very good. The broth was not flavorful at all. I had to add more garlic and other ingredients to make it taste better. Their rice bowls were pretty tasty. The Gyudon (beef) bowl is the best one. Not the typical Shabu Shabu place like that ones that you have been to. This one is like a hole in the wall type of restaurant owned by Thai people. The meat quality is honestly not bad for what you pay for, and some of the broth are tastier than the others. (The pork bone broth was a bit tasteless while the other one that I ordered was ok). I really like their spicy sukiyaki sauce which went well with the meat. Beware that during peak hours there might be a little bit of wait because there is only one waitress serving. read more
