My friend and I really enjoyed their food, which is where most of the 4 stars come from. I was disappointed by their coffee (it's European sizes at SF prices), but the food - although basic - is tasty. Their sous vide eggs are amazing, and they come with yummy toast. Four stars purely because the Black Swan latte is amazing! I've been to Spro twice and tried out a variety of things from their menu, and it seems to be a little hit or miss for me. Good: The hot lattes are a work of art, both visually and taste-wise. I've tried the Black Swan latte (activated charcoal) which could be my absolute favorite latte in the entire city. The activated charcoal gives it such a beautiful black/dark grey look, and even with almond milk Spro is able to create intricate latte art which is impressive. The latte itself has a really nice light, not too sweet taste. I've also tried the red velvet latte, which is slightly sweeter than the charcoal latte in my opinion, but still good. The umami bomb avocado toast is also so good. The ikura and furikake make the normally bordering-on-bland avocado SO savory. They also give a fairly generous amount of avocado; it definitely isn't just a thin smear. Crepe cake (only available Fri/Sat/Sun) was delicious! I tried the original charcoal flavor, but they also have seasonal flavors available, like black sesame. Not so good: I'm not really a fan of their cold drinks. I tried the sangria, which is a cold brew with various fruit syrups/bitters added to it, as well as the strawberry mint drink (forget the name). The cold brew was EXTREMELY acidic, to the point of being undrinkable. On the other end of the spectrum, the strawberry mint drink was extremely sweet, and we had to ask for extra ice to water it down. Also, this place is expensive even for SF. A latte with nondairy milk will run you $6, as will most of their cold brew drinks. The food menu is likewise overpriced; a toast with almond butter is $6+, and I literally watched the barista spread Kirkland almond butter over the toast. I guess you're also paying for the ambiance of Spark Social in general. In any case, I'll be back for more Black Swan lattes! read more

Favorite coffee place in the city! Spro is a gem in mission bay/soma and a well kept secret of the locals, and is always bustling with people during the day. It's rare to find a coffee shop that has both good food AND coffee, let alone also a great friendly staff and great outdoor seating. I come here almost every morning, and the coffee and food are always spot on! Personal favorites are: Coffee: coco de mer, a spro signature coffee with tcho chocolate and coconut, not too sweet and rich and perfectly delicious. Food: The mash up, parmesan-potato puree on buttered toast with sous vide eggs. Super rich and filling! The toast and eggs, sous vide eggs on delicious buttered toast. SPRO is my new favorite coffee discovery of 2017-2018, and in fact, I'm kicking myself for not knowing about it sooner. After seeing a picture from one of the food bloggers I follow on Instagram, I made sure to come with my fiancée the next day. We arrived mid-morning last Saturday and Spark Social was bustling with the typical Mission Bay crowd - tech folks, families, and dogs galore. Spark Social is a gathering spot similar to Off the Grid but way cooler, i.e. fire pit surrounded by individual porch swings, playground area for kids, dog beds and toys. We ordered the fifty shades (their version of earl grey latte), the shiro (matcha latte with belgian white chocolate), and the umami bomb toast (avocado, black truffle citrus ponzu, furikake, black sesame, togarashi chili & ikura salmon roe on sourdough rye - easily the best take on avo toast I've ever had!). We loved everything so much that we stopped by again 3 days later on our way home from Tahoe to try different drinks. If you order a regular espresso drink here, you're doing yourself a disservice; try one of their specialty items and you'll thank me later. This review is long overdue seeing as I've been here many times over the years and tried quite a few menu items. Some of my go-to favorites are: food: * umami bomb - super tasty and great if you're looking for a light but super satisfying breakfast. * sausage & eggs - hearty, juicy, buttery-- perfect if you're looking for something a bit heavier. * salmon sandwich - SO good! The honey wasabi aoli is great with the salmon, and it pairs well with the capers and onions * veggie tales sandwich - I'm by no means a vegetarian but I LOVE this sandwich. I was a little worried that I'd be underwhelmed by the lack of meat, or that it wouldn't be a big enough portion, but I was pleasantly surprised because it was packed with generous portions of avocado and egg salad. The cheese was tasty, the smoked guava rum dressing was BOMB. What can I say about SPRO? Where do I even begin? Simply amazing. The coffee has earthy aromas and a smooth finish. The "steak and eggs", made with 4h sous vide steak and 63C eggs, is to die for. But the one item you must not miss is the crepe cake. My favorite flavor is the activated charcoal, made with Hokkaido milk. It's usually available in the weekends. They alternate between that one and the matcha crepe cake, shown in the picture. It is 20 layers of crepes with cream in the middle. I hope I can convince more people to go get it. I had a class around Mission Bay, and was looking for a good, quick coffee fix in the morning. I stumbled upon Spro and decided to give it a try. It's located in the lovely food truck corner, and was the only food truck I could see open in the morning. Less than a 5 minute walk from the UCSF Children's Hospital for those who would like a nice walk. There is some seating outside for those who want to stick around and enjoy their breakfast and coffee. There wasn't much of a line in the morning, so I was able to order my drink quickly. I was craving the basics, so got a gibby. (like a cortado) It was delicious! Milk, espresso..was the perfect combination and really enjoyed it. Apart from the basics, they also have other unique drinks like ones with red velvet and belgian white chocolate. A fun combination looks like organic honey, orange, SPRO, and milk. Would love to try one of their fun combos next time. They also have food for those that are hungry. I didn't order anything but it all looked good. I came here looking to get only an iced oat milk latte but ended up getting food too! My drink came out fast, they told me they only use oatly milk and it's one of my favorites. It didn't take too long waiting for my food either, I got the mash-up and a side of their sous vide sausage. A little fact, their sausage is made in-house (well at their kitchen) and eggs are sous vide, 12 hours?! Everything was so good, super flavorful and I got full from eating just half. This is probably one of the best places in the city for coffee/beverages! I have tried a few of their drinks and I've never been disappointed. - strawberry fields: this is so refreshing on a "warm" day in SF. They have fresh strawberries and the flavor is great, not too sweet. My only complaint with this one is that I wish there was more of it! - coco de mar: this is a great latte-- rich, creamy, and smooth. - geisha matcha: this is my favorite at spro and probably one of the best matcha lattes I've had ever. I got mine with oat milk and the sweetness was perfect, the drink was creamy, and the matcha tasted very high quality (ceremonial grade). I did give minus one star for the food. I ordered the steak sandwich with avocado which was almost $20, but the size of a bagel. The sandwich itself was a disappointing as well-- the meat was too chewy and the sandwich was a bit bland. I definitely recommend stopping here for a coffee/drink, but just give yourself some time because there is always a line! read more

What does Spro mean? I don't know, however, I do know that it has some amazing drinks. At this charming little trailer at Spark Social SF, you literally get to stand on a step stool in order to reach the ordering window and pick from their menu of coffee and tea drinks. The staff is incredibly personable and if you have any questions whatsoever, they're either quick to answer or will give you a sample of some of the ingredients to point you to the right direction. My friends and I got three different drinks in order to cover all our bases and quench our thirsts. The yuzu lemonade is refreshing and light, definitely a drink that hits the spot on a hot day, if SF ever were to ever have one that is. The 50 Shades *chuckle* is essentially an Earl Grey milk tea with the actual tea as the main star. It was a little less sweet than I would have liked but they have some simple syrup by the bar that pushed the drink to greatness. The last drink we got was the Geisha. We're talking about a matcha latte with some serious, high quality matcha with just the right amount of sweetness. Went back SAME day so the boyfriend could try the Orange Blossom. I ordered the Coco De Mer (tcho dark chocolate, coconut, SPRO, condensed & fresh milk) and an Umami Bomb, another savory eat item. I definitely prefer the Orange Blossom over the Coco De Mer, for the former is more unique, light, and refreshing whereas the latter is more decadent. As for the Umami Bomb... boy was it DA BOMB!!! The best avocado toast I've had! Totally worth the $6! - avocado, black truffle citrus ponzu, furikake, black sesame, togarashi chili & ikura salmon roe on sourdough rye. I loved how the toast was sliced to a perfect thickness where I can sink my teeth into it, get the crunch, enjoy the chew of the bread, and appreciate the generous ratio of topping to base. In one bite, I was immediately hypnotized by the buttery avocado chunks, briny umami bursts of ikura, and earthy truffle flavors. I am not usually a fan of sourdough but I liked how it complemented the flavor profile rather than just merely serve as a textural vehicle for all of the deliciousness atop. And, of course, the dusting of togarashi chili, meant a surprising kick of heat here and there as I savored this wondrous toast! I am totally enraptured by Spro's Orange Blossom and Umami Bomb! I'm destined to try everything on the menu at this place. Rich is a personal friend, so I'll admit I'm biased, but I honestly think that SPRO is an absolute home run. The coffee or SPRO (espresso) is great - the basics are done to perfection - but the adventurous "mocktails" they make are awesome. Where you *really* see Rich's touch is the food. Oh man. You get great quality for the price, and everything I've had has been outstanding. The Shakshuka is a smoky, cheesy tomato orgy on the best toast ever. The duck breast - marinated in cold brew, dry rubbed in coffee, cooked sous vide to perfection, and then splayed over truffle oil drizzled arugula, and then accented with a dollop of cascara jam - is an incredible dish for a coffee cart, and an absolute steal for $15. Spro coffee is awesome! I'm a big time coffee lover and I usually go with the basic coffee drinks, but Spro had such a unique variety of different drinks on their menu that I had to go with something different so I went with their V for Velvet drink. I really enjoyed my drink. It wasn't too sweet or too bitter. My boyfriend ordered the orange blossom which I got to try out and kinda regretted not getting lol. The orange blossom was one of the most unique espresso based drinks I've ever had because of it's fruity flavor! Their specialty drinks listed on the outside are so detailed to the point where just reading the ingredients are just mouthwatering. After listening to one of the owners explain to a customer how different drinks are crafted, I decided to go with the "Cold Fashion". It is the coffee nerds answer to the cocktails tried and true, Old Fashion. The Cold Fashion is composed of cold brew, orange bitters, gum syrup, flamed orange twist, and maraschino cherries; all on the rocks. They actually flame the orange peel on the spot, so it brings out the essential oils of the orange. The cherries are also imported from Italy. Definitely can taste the flavors in the cold brew . This is definitely a hidden gem in SF. This is a good truck style coffee shop located in the foodtruck area. Not only is the coffee good but they have an amazing selection of Japanese inspired drinks AND food. My favorite thing to get here is the Umami Bomb. Literally so good I tell my friends it's Umami Bomb.com. It's basically a Japanese twist on avocado toast. It's hard to admit it sometimes but avocado toast is delicious and you can totally be basic and eat it all up. The owners sometimes bring their golden retriever as their welcoming committee. I hate that I love you because you're not cheap!! If you come here, you MUST order the umami bomb. It's basically an avocado toast with a Japanese twist (it has umami seasoning on it, fish roe, and truffle oil). I would say this is my favorite avocado toast in SF. It is very small though :( one is diet size, two is more of a meal. I also love their matcha / geisha kiss drink, and I always substitute with oat milk! One of my few places in SF that has oat milk.
