We were here at 6pm. Their little restaurant is packed. Well, there were only 5-6 tables inside, 2 tables outside and 1 table behind the restaurant together with their trash bin. There is no one to greet us and there is nowhere to put your name on a list. The waitress is telling everyone the waiting time is 15 minutes. After an 40 minutes wait time, they placed us on the street with their plastic table and shaky plastic chair. The kitchen window is right above my head. No one came to greet us or take order after they placed us there. The group behind us who came 20 minutes later got sat indoor and there were other empty tables inside and still, nobody is here to serve us. Mild chili = not spicy at all. --+ Fish cake is overly salted and the sauce that goes with the fish cake is very sweet. It tasted just like dissolved honey with crushed peanuts. ---tom kha kai tasted watery and sweet. There is galangal, chili, fish sauce in the soup, but the soup lacked of lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves aroma and the punch of lime juice. The chicken inside is little and dry. ---Beef salad: Beef is very chewy and it's tasted overly salted. The cucumber tasted sour not because it's pickled, but it start to be fermented because of it has been in the kitchen for a long time. Very unhygienic. ---Fried rice with BBQ pork is overly sweetened. The rice is dry and sticky, BBQ pork is just chopped Char siu. This dish is just mushy, sweet, but not spicy. The fried rice from Thai spice is even better than this one. It's at least spicy. +++ Roasted duck curry is the highlight of the whole night. The roasted duck is probably from SW or Lien Hoa BBQ Deli, the dish is a bit sweet, but overall it's tasty and well balanced. I love Thai food. But I am also a fan of places where you get your money's worth, especially if there are lunch specials. With a selected list of entrees, you can get a soup and salad as part of the lunch special. I ordered the yellow curry with chicken with mild spiciness. Don't get me wrong, the food is decent and the flavors are standard, however I was disappointed with the portion size. My yellow curry came in a mini cup with a small amount of rice. The yellow curry was good and I wished they had given me more of it. Despite that, their mango sticky rice is really delicious and definitely appropriate for sharing. 5 reasons why I like this place: 1. It's one of the better local Thai restaurants. I can't seem to find one within Irvine that is worth going to yet. 2. Really delicious Tom Yum soup!! Perfect balance of flavors. Love how the sourness of the soup is just right and not overpowering. A must try! 3. Beef panang-red curry based dish which has a nice kick of spiciness to it. I always end up eating more rice when I'm eating this because of its sauce. Trust me, that is not a bad sign. It only means it's THAT good! 4. Pad see ewe here is delicious, not great but decent enough for us to keep ordering it each time we're here. I like mine with tofu and egg. 5. Mango sticky rice!! One of my favorite desserts of all time! Ripe, sweet, chilled slices of mango on top of warm sticky rice smothered with sweet coconut milk sauce and sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds. Need I say more!? My only complaint: Place is too small and is run by only 1 or 2 people out front. This only means service can be slow. Not for big groups. This is a long overdue review update. I have come back to this place several times after my first experience and I am so happy I did. I must have been super HANGRY and my thoughts were driven by my hangry-ness. I still stand by it being small and hot inside during the summer, but that said, they have redeemed themselves. Last few times I came here I had excellent service. Yes, it is a bit slow service, they run a small staff... They are so polite and so helpful. It's in a tiny tiny tiny shopping plaza. Just follow what Google Map says! Decor is nothing special - typical pop & mom restaurant. Tiny! It's only 6 tables inside and 2 outside tables. It's very quick and friendly service. They charge you the credit card (Visa and Master) usage for under $10 ;( So bring your cash. - Gluttony Expedition - Panang curry: I don't see "panang" is served as curry nor with coconut milk ever, though I eat at Thai restaurants a lot. "Medium" spicy isn't so spicy. I can't take much spiciness and usually go with "mild" at Thai places. This wasn't so spicy. A couple of friends told me about this place as some of the best Thai food in the OC. Couple that with all the yelp reviews and I was really expecting more. First of all, don't get any of your dishes mild. Mild = no spice. Medium = a little spice. I've tried a few dishes here: pad thai, pad sew ew, pa nang curry, and the roasted duck curry. Their noodle plates always kind of disappoint me. When it comes, it comes on a huge plate, but the dish doesn't even fill the entire plate. It's kind of disappointing seeing all the empty space on the plate. It just feels like you're not getting as much food as you should be. Anyways, onwards to the food, the pad thai and pad sew ew are just ok. They're not terrible, but not great. they're just ok. The Pad thai didn't have a lot of flavor and they don't even provide you a lime to squeeze on top (you have to ask for them, but service kinda sucks). The pad sew ew seemed undercooked to me and thus, it was lacking a lot of flavor. The pa nang curry and the roasted duck curry honestly taste the same. The duck curry just has duck added to it. I think the curries are some of the best things you can get on their menu since their noodle dishes are sub-par. But even then, the curry isn't the greatest thai curry I've ever had. It's just missing something, but I can't really pinpoint what it is. The place is tiny, so expect a wait. They're always busy so if you try to phone in for a reservation, good luck getting anyone to answer the phone. But you should try. The parking lot is small. read more

Good food at decent prices, I'd go back again though I wasn't super wowed by anything we ordered. It's located in a small strip mall on Irvine Blvd. next to an alterations place and florist. The owner is Thai, which adds to the authenticity. We ordered the Tom Yum Khai soup, Pad See Ew, and Panang (Red) Curry. You can order all soups in a bowl (for one person) or a larger pot to share. I enjoyed it - chock full of mushrooms and lemongrass with that refreshing hint of acidity that I like so much. The pad see ew was typical... and the panang curry with chicken had bell peppers in it, which I could have passed on. The service is a little slow, but everyone is really nice. Everything is reasonably priced and the portions are bigger than Thai Cafe. We might just make this our new local go-to Thai place. read more

Second time here and loved it just as much as the first time! I do agree with the other yelpers that ownership has changed (cute old man wasn't there) but I still think the food was good despite that. I went with my family of 8. We made reservations for 6 pm on a Friday (the place is super small so if you have a big party make reservations!!) we got lucky and it was empty. Andddd the sweetest thing! They had our table ready with a sign saying reserved! Loved that! The food is amazing! We got the Thom khah with chicken soup, Spicy fried rice with chicken, Pad Thai with chicken, Basil leaves with chicken, and the Garlic pepper with chicken all medium level of spice since my niece is 8 and doesn't like super spicy food. If I was alone I would have gotten hella spicy!! Anyways, everything was sooo tasty and cooked to perfection! Their red hot sauce is bomb too, we finished most of it ;) The service was amazing! We came here once on a Friday evening and this place was packed! There was a line out the door and the restaurant only had about 6 tables. After a second try we came on a Monday mid afternoon (4:30pm) and found plenty of tables available. I was so excited to try their food! Food (4 Stars): Yummy Thai food from a mom and pop shop always sounds good to me. You have your spices, heat, and a ton of bold flavors! Thai food is not for people who enjoy bland food. Chinese Cream Cheese and Crab Wontons: Okay, not exactly the most Asian dish in this store, but Yelp reviewers highly recommended it. It was good. For $6 you can get 10 wontons which are more than enough for an appetizer. It comes with a small dish of sweet and sour sauce. Roast Duck Curry: This is SO delicious! It is a coconut curry with cherry tomatoes, veggies, pineapple, and succulent pieces of duck! It comes with a side of rice and I could eat this all day. There were plenty of pieces of duck in the curry, this place doesn't skimp out. Pad See Ewe: Usually a plain dish, in my opinion, but they cooked it well. I usually like my Pad See Ewe a little crispier with burnt edges (kind of like a Chow Fun) but there was more than enough for me and my boyfriend. He ended cleaning up the entire plate, and that is usually a good sign that the food is good. Service (5 Stars): The man (who I believe is the owner) gives great service! The ambiance of the restaurant doesn't feel like a restaurant, it feels like you have walked into his home and he is serving you his food. He walks around quietly, offering suggestions, and peers over your shoulder to see if you are doing okay. He also has this beautiful pitcher that we walks around with constantly refilling your cup. Check, check, and check. I'll add in one last check since it took about ten minutes to get my, you guessed it..check! Small: The restaurant is small. There is probably more outdoor seating than indoor. And at that, there is not much outdoor seating. Busy: Limited parking, limited seating. People walking past the aroma of food= busy. The food itself: it was mediocre. I think what is saving this restaurant from lower reviews is the fact that they have lunch specials for 6.50! I read that this place was small, but holy crap this place is tiny, if I stood next to myself side by side I would get stuck in this place! Since I'm not Thai I cannot say for sure how authentic their flavors were but everything tasted just a little off from what I am used to in what I believe to be authentic Thai food from SGV. Let's face it, when it comes to Asian cuisine, your first pick would be the country of origin, then Canada, then San Francisco, then San Gabriel Valley....no one would say Tustin, and that's for a good reason. This place is missing something, I don't know what but I just know it can taste better. Since I head over to the SGV every two weekends of so, I will have to pass on this place. I never would have even noticed Sutha Thai Kitchen if it weren't for Yelp. I've always driven around the area, but there was this one very small and kind of sketchy that I've always looked past... until now. Not going to lie, the little area that the restaurant is in could be deceiving at first, but after having read the reviews for Sutha and that it really was a hole-in-the-wall kind of place, I decided to venture in. The restaurant is VERY cramped. There are six tables, and they were already full.. so we had to wait... and wait... and wait... for about thirty minutes. What was great was that one of the waiters had asked us to order earlier, so by the time we sat down, our food was already out! We ordered the Papaya salad, Tom Ka Kai (Chicken) Soup, Pad See Ew, Pumpkin Curry, and dessert (I have a story for this one). Papaya Salad It just looks like a bunch of cabbage at first, but then you notice that there are peanuts and peppers and other things sprinkled on the salad. The dressing is very good. Definitely isn't a "wow" dish, but it is very refreshing. Tom Ka Kai (Chicken) Soup THE best Tom Ka Kai Soup I've ever had! I wouldn't have changed a thing. There was a perfect balance of lemongrass and coconut milk, and both the vegetables and chicken were of great quality. ORDER THIS! Pad See Ew A bit on the sweet side, but it's still very good... kind of like Thai comfort food, if I say so myself. We got tofu instead of meat for this, and it was done very well. Pumpkin Curry The curry is SO good and full of flavor... once again, I wouldn't have changed a thing about it. The pumpkin was just the right texture and everything about it was just very, very good. Now for the dessert... originally, we were going to get the sweet sticky rice with mango, but as soon as we were going to mention it, the waitress informed us that they were sold out.... then this was followed by a chorus of laughter from two other tables and a "We all wanted to eat that!" Very fun. We ended up getting the Coconut Ice Cream, which was still exceptional and obviously home-made and perfect for a hot summer day (which it wasn't, but it was still amazing). Great stuff. Small joint, parking is limited due to the other businesses there, very limited tables, but no one was there at 2 pm on Saturday. Score! It appears that everyone is Thai. Our homeland waiter kept thinking we wanted it mild, so we kept repeating spicy, spicy, SPICY!. C'mon, we're not your typical Anglo customers, bring the heat brosif! It smelled really good when he brought it over and fack, it had like 10+ thai chili peppers! Very tasty broth, but the mushrooms weren't brined long enough. It's okay though because we got the hot pot and which allowed it to cook. Next order was the Pad Thai entree. Deelish I thought. It was nicely prepared and under it was a bamboo leaf...fancy! Noodles were done perfectly and did not stick, veggies were fresh and clean and it tasted awesome...had a nice sweet and sour touch. Definitely one of the better pad thais I've had. Last order was the Mongolian Beef. Looked good, tasted horrible. Beef was tough and over-cooked while the veggies were under-done. I got scared to send it back because I'm not the type of person to do that, but good thing my friend was with me and said something. The cook came out, apologized and redid it. 2nd time came out better. The veggies were definitely re-sauteed, but it came out yum! All it needed was another re-fire. Still wouldn't order this though, especially because it's a Chinese dish and the place is Thai! All in all, not a bad place. I think it was $30, but that's because we ordered entrees. I realize the outfit I'm wearing is Ghetto! So we had to skip that choice because likely I'd get kicked out! I can't help it If I dressed like a G.? We were creeping up near Tustin and Thai was still in my eyes, so we Yelped again and the wife came up with this place, Sutha! Our first visit here was within an hour from closing time and it was still busy, seats all taken and we where told that it will be a 15 minute wait!? I was still itchin' to leave this joint because we where standing right at the entrance way and this place is tiny as f**k!!! and my ass was rubbing on stranger's backs. Despite all that standing like caved punks, we stayed patient. I was all in for their food shooooot!!! Best OC Weekly awards on their wall?...they got some street cred. here. I ordered the Spicy Fried Rice with Basil Leaves! I'll tell you what? it was the best Spicy Fried Rice I ever had! not as greasy and the good thing about it was that I didn't need to add any spices to it because the balance was already there and meshed really well! Was craving Thai food and Sutha was less than 15 min away from me at the time. I understand why previous reviewers had to wait 1-2 hrs for their food. This place is tiny! Inside, there are 3 tables that can seat 2-4 in one corner and another larger table (maybe fits 7-9 people) in the other corner. There are 2 tables outside with convenient umbrellas/shade. When I got there at 6:20 PM on a Monday night, there was no other customer there. The 2 ladies who showed up later initially sat outside and eventually moved inside because it was too cold. I tried the panang curry with chicken because several reviewers mentioned it. IT IS DELICIOUS. All the curries come with a bowl of rice (+$1 for brown rice). It's definitely shareable for 2 people. The coconut milk flavor is strong. Although we asked for mild spiciness, I didn't taste any spice/hotness at all. If you're new here and love Thai curry, try panang curry!! (I stayed away from beef because a reviewer mentioned beef is too chewy; I've had that experience at several other Thai places as well) I also tried the Pad Kee Mow with chicken. The menu's description said it would be spicy, but she still asked us how spicy we wanted it. I said mild, thinking that I'd get some spiciness. But like the panang curry, it was not spicy at all. I'm not sure what the difference is between this and Pad See Ew, but the pad kee mow was delicious as well! The only thing was that the vegetables and meat were the same in both dishes that I ordered (bell peppers, onions, basil, chicken). Something interesting happened during my visit. The server accidentally gave us green curry instead of panang curry, but I didn't realize until I took the first bite and she came over to apologize. She took the curry away, but I had already scooped some out onto my plate. I got to try a little of the green curry. I like this one as well because I like the bamboo! If this place were to expand and give their customers some more space when they're eating, I'd give them 5 stars. If you are in the area, call (714) 734-6100 to order to-go! So I started noticing the changes a few months ago...computer replaced cash box, receipts were electronic, not written out and the owner, bald guy in his 50's always smiling was there less & less. New faces, new decor and the food was just not the same; but I was still in denial. I figured maybe they had a new cook in training, family was visiting & helping out, influx of money (because the food was great).... Nope! New owners & the food is sadly not as good. The yellow curry chicken was super watery & had no flavor. The pork fried rice, that was once the best I ever had in the O.C, was bland. My friend recommended this place so we decided to check it out. It's a tiny place with a few tables inside and outside. It is very hot inside so I would recommend sitting outside if you can get a table. I called ahead to make sure there wasn't a wait as my friend said this place gets pretty busy. We ordered: Thai Iced Tea-Too sweet for our liking. Needs more tea. Chicken Fried Rice-Very bland and tasteless but it went well with the curry on top. Yellow Curry-Very flavorful but also very sweet. We ordered medium spicy and it was not spicy at all, just sweet. Tom Kha Kai (Coconut soup with Chicken)-We ordered medium spicy and it was not spicy at all, just sweet. The broth was flavorful and perfect with the chicken and vegetables. I saw large peppers in it but was surprised when there was a lack of spice. I like this place since its a tiny mom & pop place and the owner/server is very kind. I will definitely give this place another try next time. I will request my dishes to be very spicy and hopefully, they'll actually listen. There seems to be a ton of Thai food spots popping up in every city... with varying qualities. Yelp pulls through again and presents decent hole-in-the-wall Thai food escape! Green Curry Chicken had well-balanced flavor and the ingredients were fresh. This is always the first dish I order at a new Thai restaurant. Other restaurants usually get it wrong because of imbalance: too much coconut milk, too much fish sauce, too much curry, etc. I was thrown off by the humbleness of the restaurant, not expecting anything high quality, but I was pleasantly surprised. They nailed this dish right: it was creamy, savory, sweet, and had various textures and flavors in the meat and vegetables. Hella NOM! I hope it's this good each time I come here. 4 out of 5. My friends had the Massaman Curry with Beef and though I don't usually order the dish enough to compare to other restaurants, it was also quite a nice dish. Our server was very friendly and hooked it up with a lot of steamed, white rice. They know their audience! Recently, because of work commitments, we went for dinner on almost every Saturday nights at Sutha Thai Restaurant. Foremost, their food price are averagely and fairly priced. Second, they really cook good authentic Thai food! I m a Malaysian and used to vacationed in Thailand so I pretty know their food is the closest to "real Thai food". The best thing is we made friends with the owner Mr Kuman and his staff and were treated exceptionally welcome and feel like home. He often came to our table after our dinners and chat for a long time about his business and things in general. This is what I called a good customer service and I bet you are looking forward to it. My favorite local Thai spot Might not be for everyone Not big and fancy Just a humble little hole in the wall Might take a while to be seated Depending on the time of day you go I never really have a problem though I eat at weird times When it's busy Service might take an extra minute or two There's a good reason for that There's one cook One server And a lot of customers People don't mind cramming in here Cuz the food is that good So don't be mad at the one server That's a lot of work for just one to handle I've seen inside the kitchen It's tiny One little Thai lady back there Just banging out orders Amazing how she keeps up How she does it and how she makes it Is why I go I've had a few things on the menu Haven't had everything But everything I had I liked Everyone talks about the yellow curry So go for it I did and still do every time If you don't like spice too much Ask for it mild That's what I do when I'm with my fam I like my food spicy They don't So we get the mild I ain't worried I ask for Thai chili on the side So they give it to me Little diced Thai chilis in fish sauce Smother your rice with the curry Dump a couple chili bombs on top of that Put a little put a lot It's up to you I like the saltiness of fish sauce too Throw a couple drops in there Have a taste You like Put more You in control Make it as spicy and salty as you want Just a little tip if you gotta share We also get the pad see ew Non spicy stir fried noodles for them Side of Thai chili for me Same trick works here too But not as good as it does with the curry So sometimes I gotta get pad kee mow Pretty much a spicy version of pad see ew Except the vegetables are different Fried squid is pretty much calamari Fat rings though Not little skinny ones So each ring is a nice chunk of squid Batter is crisp Me and the kids love em We also gotta get the crab wontons They got cream cheese ones You get 10 in an order You can do half and half We prefer all crab I'm gettin hungry I gotta stop I've had alot more on their menu I'll write about it another time read more

I will start off by saying that I am not from Thailand and I have never been to sample what Authentic Thai food taste like. But from the previous reviews I decided to give this place a shot (sometime last year) and I've been going since. I've tried a few Thai places here and there and I've always came back to Sutha. This place is small and during peak times you may have to wait. Because of the space there is only 1-2 people taking orders at a time. I've seen other reviews talking about the service and it's unfortunate that you had a bad experience but I can tell you that it's worth it. The food is pretty darn tasty... tasty enough for me to go 10+ times. I've had: Pad See Ew Panang Curry Kang Ka-Ree Curry Spicy Fried Rice Pad Woon Sen All of it has been very good each and every time. That's just what I've tried and I've had many of those dishes several times. I can't imagine what I haven't tried yet. This place makes my mouth water with it's delicious dishes. And top that off with a couple Thai Teas and you're good to go. *2 thumbs up* read more

Despite the fact that the place is really small (total of 5 tables if I remember correctly), the food here is very delicious. It tastes like really like authentic food when I was in Thailand. I and my friends (who are also Thai) went there several times, but I just think I should write a review for this place today. We also had a chat with the owner to know that the cooks came from different regions of Thailand and they usually cook the dishes that are originated from their region. That's why all dishes are really good. Today we had papaya salad, grilled chicken, and panang curry as you can see from photos above. Only cons that I can think of is the place is so small, but if you call them before you go, it'd be fine. read more

Seems like they lost their chef. Their food is totally different and the volume of food is much less than before. I am not going back to this restorante any more. read more

Update: Went back for lunch on a weekday without knowing that they get totally swamped! More calls come in than can be answered, but their food and service kept me happy to wait. I recommend eating at non-peak hours, unless you have some really good games on your iPhone. Kai kua and chicken with basil leaf stir fry lunch combination reminded me of my recent trip through Bangkok. Their Thai iced tea is my favorite of all the places I've tried in the States. Wasn't excessively sweet and still tasted like tea (and not a milkshake). This is a mom and pop joint with limited seating and friendly service. Don't expect a fancy venue. The owners care more about their cooking than decorating their store, which is good. Fantastic flavors and value. We've become regulars, for sure. read more

The place is tiny and the food is good. They have great prices (particularly the lunch specials). If the place fills up (which doesn't require many people), the service gets a little slow. In general though, you can get in and out quickly. The portions are sized right and I never leave feeling I over or under ate. The guy who usually is waiting tables doesn't speak the greatest English and misunderstands orders all the time, but he eventually gets it and you can tell he's trying. Despite its small, compact space, the food itself is great! The restaurant is easy to miss, so make sure you are looking for it if its your first time. I really like their Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mow. Wow! This may be the best Thai food I've had in a very long time. So excited I found it on DoorDash. I ordered the Pad See Ew with tofu and it was amazingly fresh. The yellow curry with tofu had the perfect amount of spice. I enjoyed the vegetarian dumplings but would try steamed instead of fried next time. Highly recommended! read more
