I've been a loyal customer to Sutha Thai for a while now. Their Pad Thai and Pad See Ew are phenomenal. However, they disappointed me when they robbed me of $5.39 for the saddest "large" order of brown rice I have ever seen. They claim a large can feed 4, but it's barely enough for 2 people to eat. It came in a small togo box and my girlfriend and I barely got by with this large order--we don't eat more than the average person. How I heard of this place: My sister's good friend and fellow PhD. She's local and all about tasty food. Type of cuisine: Authentic Thai. Ambiance: A tiny, cramped hole-in-the-wall found in a small Tustin strip mall, this establishment is easily missed. A handful of tables sit extremely close to each other, as diners bump elbows with their unknown neighbors, and await take-out orders. The close quarters are warmly infused with deep, rust-colored walls and simple decor. A haven which places great attention to simplicity, while delivering some of the most authentically spiced Thai food I have had in the USA. What I ordered: We started with Cream Cheese Wontons ($8.99): crispy fried wontons with cream cheese and onion, and Shrimp Sarong ($8.99): deep fried shrimp and ground pork wrapped in crispy egg noodles served with sweet and sour sauce, and a Papaya Salad ($8.99): shredded green papaya mixed with crusted roasted peanuts, green beans, palm sugar, and tomato with seasoning and spicy lime juice. For our main entrées, my husband selected the BBQ Pork Fried Rice ($8.99), and the BBQ Pork Ribs ($8.99): marinated pork in house special sauce. The rest of us shared a Pa Nang Curry with Chicken ($9.99) with roasted curry and coconut milk, Pad See Ew with beef ($8.99): stir fired flat noodles in brown sweet soy sauce with egg and broccoli, and the too-spicy-to-consume Pad Kee Mow ($8.99) with chicken: flat noodles stir fried with chili and mint leaves in a spicy sauce. Great food. Curry is delicious. While still tasty (obviously cream cheese...) my wontons were burnt last two rounds. Still highly recommend. I'd stay away from the cream cheese wonton and go egg rolls. read more

Isn't eating good food fun?! This has been my go-to, secret little Thai place in the Tustin area since I discovered it about a year ago. Tiny place- 5 or 6 tables, plus 3 outside. Excellent, excellent food. The owner is very friendly and- like all good restaurant proprietors- cares about his customer's satisfaction. Amazing food. You simply can't go wrong. TIP: on a cold day, order their soup to start your meal. It's a brothy, complex bowl of some beautifully fresh asian-style veggies in a flavorful borth, served piping hot. The perfect meal starter. Both the BBQ chicken (excellent) and the BBQ pork (excellent) will surprise you with how good they are. The traditional Thai restaurant dishes (the various "pad" selections) are wonderful: ultra fresh, excellent flavor, thoughtful presentation. Not bad for a tiny hole in the wall. The lunch deals are amazing (under $7 bucks). This place mixes in a few "Chinese" dishes like Kung Pao, and things of that nature, but they too are better than most Chinese places I've been to. Guess what, I came back again for another take-out on Friday afternoon. The place was packed by 5pm. I couldn't find parking and had to park across the street. This time we ordered our favorites Panang Beef, Roast Duck Curry and Spicy Catfish. I usually get mild and they definitely know how to make it according to spicy level. I got off work late & was starving, my usual spot Thai Pepper in HB was closed 'cause they're going on vacation back to Thailand & since I had Sutha bookmarked for a while I decided to give it a try. It is a small restaurant (smaller than Thai Gulf I believe), but I like that 'cause it gives it more of a mom & pop feel. Luckily I arrived around 8 and there wasn't a wait, got a table inside. Duck Curry - Was debating this or the Panang curry everyone raves about, but the lady said their duck curry was their specialty so I decided to go with that. It had plenty of duck pieces which was good, and the curry was red, but for some reason it needed more flavor. It was a bit too sweet even though she said it wasn't going to be. It was a really heavy dish you could see globs of oil everywhere which was really unappealing to me. Plenty of pineapple and bell peppers also. The dish went well w/ the brown rice. Spicy Scallops - I originally wanted the eggplant chicken, but sub chicken for scallops 'cause I like the spicy sauce in the eggplant dish, but the lady said it's better to get the spicy scallops and they'll use the sauce from the eggplant dish in it. However, when the dish came out it wasn't even spicy and the sauce reminded me of the sauce that vietnamese restaurants use for pho ap chao. The scallops were the frozen kind and not good at all. Also, every entree comes w/ rice, but instead of rice I wanted more veggies since i had already gotten rice from the curry entree. She said ok, but the dish DIDN'T COME W/ MORE VEGGIES! It came w/ more onions like wtf? I even confirmed w/ her twice to add veggies as in broccoli carrots etc. Tom Yum Soup (chicken) - White meat chicken so +1 for that, the soup was the best dish out of the 3 I ordered. However, it's not the best Tom Yum I've had. There was globs of oil in this as well which I didn't like 'cause most thai places I've been to have a clean soup. At least they didn't skimp on the mushrooms, tomatoes, and chicken. Overall I'd give this place 2.5 stars, but it's located in Tustin/Irvine so I'm not surprised that it wasn't good quality so I'll bump em to 3. I frequent this restaurant once a month. Sutha Thai is one of the most consistently Thai restaurants in the area, in my belief. I'm a fan of the pad Thai, but their fried rice is always a must when i visit or take out. I haven't tried all the menu items but their Yellow curry and bbq beef is also a go to. I don't do many reviews, but i feel this should be a try for most people who enjoy Thai cuisine. read more

What Happened Sutha? We have gone here for years, and was surprised by the 1 Star below. We ordered anyway, and were super disappointed. Tom Kah missed both ginger and lemongrass and had no flavor. The Penang curry was soupy and just way too spicy (asked for medium) but no reall flavor, just hot. The bean in garlic sauce was nearly OK but overall not at all what we have gotten used to. Sutha, I hope you read this and turn this around quickly. If there are new people in the kitchen or as owner, hurry up! If anyone gets good food again, please post here, I am staying away in the meantime. read more

My pals and I headed over here for our Thai Thursday lunch fixing haha. I'd heard good things about this place from different people so our expectations were high, not to mention we were all pretty starved after school. It's quite small with only about 5 tables, but I found the decor and vibe of the place to be super cute :) I ordered a beef Pad See Ew and tried a bite of my friend's Chicken Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mow (spicy level 3) - all very yummy. If you aren't too confident about your spicy tolerance I'd suggest ordering a milder number than 3. 10/10 service - both ladies were very kind and checking up on us. All of our dishes came out hot and we were quite full and happy afterwards. I'd say the portions are more than fair for the price ($9). I'll definitely be back! read more

At around 8pm on Monday we came after a game of kickball at the park so we were hungry. It's a cozy little place that makes you feel very comfortable. I think we had some confusion with placing orders b/c of some language barriers, but the man was super nice. we had asked for hot water and he brought out a cup of hot water with lemons. Most places just give you a pot of hot water that's too hot to drink. I ordered the eggplant entrée with chicken. There were also curry, bbq beef, and fried rice. The portion sizes are pretty decent and it was not too salty, with a lot of flavor. I actually liked the rice a lot, it was soft and fluffy. Because the place is small, the tables are mostly for 2 and 4 ppl, it's a bit difficult to seat 5 or more if other tables are taken already. read more

Overall this place normally has good food. This complaint is more based on management.... I Ordered $55 worth of food. One item was Pad Thai, got home to eat with family. The pad Thai smelt and tasted very burnt / charred. Couldn't eat. Called to see if they could deliver a new order and take this back. Stated they don't have delivery. We said a refund for the inconvenience and a new pad Thai was fair for making another trip to and from and having to now make my kids wait 20+ more mins to eat dinner while the rest of the order gets cold. Manager says ok come here. Drive there. Manager says I either get refund or the food. I explained why I wanted something for my time being wasted on the cooks mistake. She literally said again. Sooooo good. We've only ever done take out, so I can't say much for the location itself, but the food is excellent. Highly recommend if you want authentic Thai. Personal favorites are the yellow curry, Tom Kah, and Drunken Noodles. The kids love the chow mein and chicken satay. Enjoy! read more

This place always delivers. Simply amazing Thai food. The space itself is really small with only a handful of tables inside. I believe they do a lot of take out business. But you can usually grab a seat inside if its not crowded. We usually order a combination of the Pad Thai, Cashew nut chicken, and garlic beef. All are fantastic. Came here for my lunch break cuz I love a good Thai lunch special. The service is extremely friendly and welcoming. An old picture of the menu said they had a $7.99 lunch special, but at the time of this review it's now $8.99 just FYI. Still a decent deal and really good. I got the chicken pad Thai and it is very satisfying. Not anything that will blow you away, but totally fine. New review 2018. It's gotten better since first sold 2012ish. But the quality and quantity fluctuates. The service... awful. The waiter tonight didn't write down my order and passively aggressively apologized saying "I confused him." Not once, but twice. 1st, wouldn't you ask for clarification before submitting the verbal order to the kitchen? Leads me to my next point... doesn't it help to write down an order on a piece of paper. The second batch was still inaccurate and clearly the cook was upset bc I had 1/4 of the protein as the 1st time. The waiter simply shot the shit with another customer who was finished eating. I waited. And waited. And waited before getting up and asking him for service. He seemed annoyed I interrupted to request service. The worst part is pre-apologizing for nothing. I hate when I say sorry for asking someone to do their job. Last, the right side of the menu just went way up. Part of the hole-in-the-wall charm is good eats for fair prices. If you are going to offer hit or miss food, wrong orders, bad service and demand more money... I can't. Please let everyone know when the dishes are more consistent and the waiter doesn't act annoyed when a cu dine inside instead of picking up take-out. read more

Probably only one server because they only have a handful of tables! I asked for a recommendation and she helped me choose with confidence! Food: Garlic Chicken Super flavorful, could be too flavorful haha. Either way, I enjoyed the dish and I think it is worth a try! Pad Thai Can never go wrong with Pad Thai! We were here at 6pm. Their little restaurant is packed. Well, there were only 5-6 tables inside, 2 tables outside and 1 table behind the restaurant together with their trash bin. There is no one to greet us and there is nowhere to put your name on a list. The waitress is telling everyone the waiting time is 15 minutes. After an 40 minutes wait time, they placed us on the street with their plastic table and shaky plastic chair. The kitchen window is right above my head. No one came to greet us or take order after they placed us there. The group behind us who came 20 minutes later got sat indoor and there were other empty tables inside and still, nobody is here to serve us. Mild chili = not spicy at all. --+ Fish cake is overly salted and the sauce that goes with the fish cake is very sweet. It tasted just like dissolved honey with crushed peanuts. ---tom kha kai tasted watery and sweet. There is galangal, chili, fish sauce in the soup, but the soup lacked of lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves aroma and the punch of lime juice. The chicken inside is little and dry. ---Beef salad: Beef is very chewy and it's tasted overly salted. The cucumber tasted sour not because it's pickled, but it start to be fermented because of it has been in the kitchen for a long time. Very unhygienic. ---Fried rice with BBQ pork is overly sweetened. The rice is dry and sticky, BBQ pork is just chopped Char siu. This dish is just mushy, sweet, but not spicy. The fried rice from Thai spice is even better than this one. It's at least spicy. +++ Roasted duck curry is the highlight of the whole night. The roasted duck is probably from SW or Lien Hoa BBQ Deli, the dish is a bit sweet, but overall it's tasty and well balanced. We won't recommend this place to our yelpers with their lame service and overly sweetened food. read more

I love Thai food. But I am also a fan of places where you get your money's worth, especially if there are lunch specials. With a selected list of entrees, you can get a soup and salad as part of the lunch special. I ordered the yellow curry with chicken with mild spiciness. Don't get me wrong, the food is decent and the flavors are standard, however I was disappointed with the portion size. My yellow curry came in a mini cup with a small amount of rice. The yellow curry was good and I wished they had given me more of it. Despite that, their mango sticky rice is really delicious and definitely appropriate for sharing. Our group of 3 had more than enough and ended up with food coma afterwards. Service is decent and there is a small parking lot in front of the restaurant. Credit cards accepted. read more
