I've had my eye on Sweet Maple for about 5 months now and finally got to try it out. After being in the area a few times before and seeing the line, I usually skipped past it. I finally swung by on a Friday morning and our party of 2 was seated right away. Settling on the deep fried french toast and millionaire's bacon sampler, I have never had such a unique and tasty brunch. I'm well acquainted with traditional brunch menus and regular french toast and bacon, but rarely come across items that catch me off guard. The deep fried french toast was so delicious and tasted like funnel cake to me. It was crunchy yet soft and perfectly sweet. The millionaire's bacon was thick, fresh, and greasy in all the best ways. My favorite flavor of the bacon was the original, but each of the other flavors easily impressed me. Better yet, putting a slice of the bacon on top of a slice of the deep fried french toast was a fun combo to taste. Overall, excellent food that came out very fast. Both items were delivered in about 5-7 minutes. Our waitress wasn't the most friendly, but was attentive and regularly filled up our waters. Ordered the Hemingway. I was curious about the wasabi hollandais sauce, all honesty I thought it'd be terrible. I really enjoyed this dish. You can taste the wasabi but it just adds a bit more complexity to the egg Benedict, in a good way. The wasabi doesn't over power the sauce or dish in any way. I believed it enhanced it. Wasn't crazy on the 1 hour bottomless mimosa limit since I feel u can't take ur time eating & drinking. Felt too much pressure to jug to make it worth it, when I like to take my time with my food & drink. I'm a slow eater/ drinker. But I understand they are a very busy restaurant. I ordered the Big Hip with a side of eggs and chicken apple sausage . I will admit when I first seen the meal I was skeptical of how it would taste. The French toast itself was pipping hot the butter melted easily. The French toast itself had a crunch too it but it balanced with the soft texture of the middle of the bread. The syrup that came with the meal was warm which added to the flavor of the meal. Next time I'm going to ask to have my eggs and sausage on a separate plate. What a disappointing brunch... I've been here countless times since my previous review and ALWAYS enjoyed it. Today was a different story. We hadn't been here since covid but by now, it shouldn't make too much of a difference and our disappointment had nothing to do with it. We got: 1. Dungeness Crab Benedict We ordered it without English muffins (we're gluten free, not by choice) but they would not swap it for a bed of spinach like they used to. I also asked for lemon hollandaise instead of wasabi hollandaise but it still came with the wasabi one whereas in the past, they always got it right. The Benedict itself was delicious with a good amount of crab though I must mention that it is indeed pricy. 2. Gardena Soufflegg Skillets "Soft steamed egg scramble served on a skillet. Fluffy, delicious, and wholesome! Served with potato medley and ciabatta au levain toast. Sautéed mixed mushrooms, spinach, bell peppers with roasted tomatoes" This was a new item on the menu for us. We had tried to order the smoked salmon Benedict but they were out of salmon, so we thought we would try this. When we asked about it, the waiter said "some people hate it because it tastes burned". We figured that was impossible so we decided to try it. Bad idea! It tasted A. Burned and B. Bland. We each took one bite and left it. Sadly, the potatoes which we loved before are now no longer the medley, they have herbs and they are fried. It's less healthy AND in our opinion, less tasty. When the waiter asked how we were doing, we told him how terrible the egg soufflé dish was. He said he had warned us and that he would never cook it the way they do, but in a bain marie instead. He didn't offer to take it away, take it off the check or ask if we wanted anything else instead. Disappointing food and customer service today. Had the pleasure of trying out Sweet Maple!!!! We definitely had to take advantage on this beautiful sunny San Francisco day. We got seated immediately, which was a plusssss! Their normal wait time could vary from 30 minutes to 2 hours on the weekends. I love their restaurant decors and the vibe it offers. Their employees were very polite and attentive. The line to this place looks long but it actually goes by really quick. We went on a busy holiday morning for brunch. The 4 of us got the bottomless mimosas. I like how you could change the flavors after every round. They make them pretty strong to watch out. Personally, I ordered a breakfast pizza, which was definitely more than enough. My boyfriend got the soufflé egg skillet. It was so fluffy. Overall, this place is great! I will be back to try more from their huge menu! read more

Nothing out of the extraordinary, but the food was to die for. We ordered the deep fried french toast and the Pimped Shin Cupbop. Let me start with the french toast. It tasted like a rich, soft, and chewy bread with a crispy battered crust similar in taste to a funnel cake. It was SO good. Their syrup is also something else. Kind of tastes like vanilla maple syrup and was a really nice addition to the large portion. It was topped with fresh fruit which also added a nice punch. The Pimped Shin Cupbop is so clever and unique to say the least. The fried rice is simple, yet tasty. Topped with a sunny side up egg and their famous Millionaires bacon, it was wonderful. The rice was nicely seasoned using the Shin Ramen flavor packet with chopped ramen also mixed in the rice. It was not too spicy at all, so I added some Tapatio to it. Recommend that. Yesterday lunch with a friend something happened that I have never experienced in a restaurant before. Sweet Maple offers "Bottomless Mimosas", and the table next to ours was imbibing. When they got up to leave, one of the women could not walk without assistance, and then she promptly "hurled" all over the floor. Our waiter opened a window while the cleanup was in progress, and we asked him if this had ever happened before. He told us it's a regular occurrence once or twice a month. I seriously love the food and environment here and it's always one of my go-to brunch places when I'm in SF! I came here with my friends (a group of 8) on Sunday around 10am and the line was out the door long... like wrap around the corner type of long. I also shared the big hip french toast with my friends - I thought it was yummy, but also quite heavy and cakey. Recent times I've been here, I've ordered the omelettes and they really do not disappoint! My friends and I also ordered mimosas - pricey @ $11 a cup... but hey, we rarely ever got together as a huge group, so we decided why not. Stop scrolling through the reviews and go freakin eat at the Sweet Maple! *Sigh* Fine, here's why: Atmosphere: Ended up having to dine outdoors due to COVID-19, which was fine because the weather was perfect. As far as I can tell, the indoor dining is tiny, but let me tell you, it's worth the wait. It's pretty popular, so do expect a wait. There isn't a parking lot, so be aware of that. Also, if there is traffic in the area, be prepared to walk. Nothing too surprising when dining in San Francisco really. Food: Where to begin? There are plenty of food options that vary, and let me tell you, it was difficult to choose because I want to go back and try so many more dishes! I finally decided to go with their Italiano Morning Pizza. As a pizza connoisseur, I couldn't help myself. It's exactly as it sounds, the best of both worlds of breakfast toppings intermixed with popular pizza toppings baked on a pie. No regrets whatsoever since everything blended well and nothing was overpowering anything else. The Millionaire Bacon is a great side dish to try, but a bit pricey. Still, live a little! Four strips of thick cut bacon with four different seasonings to provide different experiences. I suppose I could tell you the flavors, but what fun is that?! Order it and experience it for yourself. It's been what seems like forever since I had a brunch out, and this place did not at all disappoint! Sweet maple was a last minute plan but I'm so glad I went and I will definitely be back when I'm in the city. They have PLENTY of outdoor seating and the tables are quite a distance from each other which was literally amazing to see- I was so surprised at how they converted to outdoor seating so well! I'm really picky with my French toast and this was potentially one of the greatest places I've tried! Not at all eggy (I hate eggy French toast haha) and it's was the perfect sweetness when I add syrup, nothing heavy or too sugary even with the powered sugar on top. First time here with Cousin & Bestie who are more like sisters to me. We were celebrating Bestie's birthday and she picked this spot two weeks ago and I'm glad she did. Mo was our server and was excellent. She and the rest of the staff were absolutely amazing. Everyone was very attentive. I ordered the Hass omelette with no bacon add mixed mushrooms with potatoes medley and bread. Cousin and Bestie had the Mariner french toast - Cousin & Bestie got their meal with bacon and potatoes and Cousin had eggs. it was an enjoyable experience overall and we would definitely return. Although they appear to be known for their Millionaires bacon, neither Bestie or Cousin ordered it but I will tell you it was flying out of the kitchen so it must be pretty popular but none for me. I would've tried if still eating meat, I use to be a huge fan of bacon but I will truly pass nowadays but again, no shortage of people who clearly love it. I enjoyed that once you place your order, the wait time is minimal. Everyone clearly knows their assignment and executes it quite well. I tasted the French toast and it was devine. Sooo like any other popular brunch place in SF, always expect to wait in line for a seat. It's funny how my friend and I strategically planned to come on a Monday so we could avoid the wait. But little did we know that there was STILL a line out the door. Sob. Anyways, the food here is tasty! Just a bit overpriced. I got the Pacifica salad, which comes with dungeness crab and shrimp. But the salad itself cost a whopping $21!!! Tbh, as much as I love huge salads, I don't think the taste justified the price. Still, I appreciated that they used fresh (versus canned) crab. The dressing that came with the salad was also pretty flavorful, so thank goodness I ordered that on the side. Otherwise, I worry the dressing would have been too overpowering. Overall, this is a nice place for brunch in SF. What I like most is that the interior is very roomy. *Covid-19 Outdoor Dining Review* Came here for Sunday Brunch with a friend and was alarmed by the amount of people in line, but it was worth the wait! I got there at 12:30pm and was seated at 1:25pm (I was 24th in line). There is a tablet at the entrance for you to manually enter your name to get a spot in line. People in line tend to gather in clusters around the front entrance, so I encourage you to walk around the neighborhood while you wait if you want to practice safe social distancing (you will get text updates on your place in line, so it made it very easy to get back in time!). The outdoor seating was well spaced out and the service was very quick. You have to use your phone and scan a barcode for the menu. All of the employees were wearing masks and gloves and taking all safety precautions. I felt safe. I ordered the Hip Dip (deep fried French toast) with Millionaire's bacon and it was worth every minute of our 1 hour wait! The Hip Deep tasted like a blend of an old-fashioned donut and a funnel cake, so it was THE perfect dish to get on a sunny day that gave me nostalgic feels of happy days at state fairs and carnivals. I added on the Millionaire's Bacon (MUST TRY) and WOW I have never had bacon this flavorful and delicious. It was sweet with hints of spice and the fat just melted like butter. "If you go to any restauant with more than 20 employee, we assure you that fee is either built into their menu prices, or added in plain view on to the bill. We prefer to do the latter as it brings awareness to the situation, which is hardly immoral." I believe you misunderstood what I am calling immoral, as you just admitted that the fees can be "built into their menu prices." I am not saying it's immoral to pay well and give good benefits, obviously. I am saying it's immoral to surprise patrons with a higher price than promised on the menu, aka Vegas resort fees style. When you buy a car, do you get your new truck for $40k then at the end see you owe $50k due to health benefit costs to engineers and machinists??? Well, if that happened it wouldn't be so bad because you could probably just cancel the sale when you see the charge, but in a restaurant situation this would be too late. Imagine signing up for cell phone service at $70/month, then when you get your first bill you see it's $110--"fair health practices, health benefits to workers $40 additional". ABSURD, right??? Just pay your employees what you think they are worth, and make sure they can afford to be healthy. You don't need to exclaim it to the world that you simply are doing the right thing. "Built into their menu prices" = okay, "Added in plain view on to the bill" = -1 points. They are not forced to charge it on your bill. It's simply operational costs for the restaurant, and should be rolled into the prices. Anyway, join me and fight this immoral practice. Have you ever had crisp bacon that's dripping juicy? Amazing. It was unanimous at our table that the original is the best, but we all appreciated the effort in the other flavors. 10/10 5. I must admit, I am a Sweet Maple Stan! As a self-proclaimed breakfast connoisseur, who has partaken in several breaks locations around San Francisco, I can truly say that Sweet Maple is the best. It truly is an experience. Now, in fairness, I can't say that I've tried everything on the menu not have I given their lunch / dinner items a try, but despite all of that, nothing touches their breakfast menu. Sweet Maple used to serve my personal favorite, "three thin sweet potatoes pancakes." Good golly miss molly, those were awesome. They were discontinued because of the pandemic (thanks Rona SMH). Now, let's get to the flood stuff, I recently ordered their Mariner French Toast, Thin Pancakes, Potato Medley, Chicken Mango Sausage, and Bacon, which were all FANTASTIC (see the pictures)! Now, the only critical feedback I can offer is that it is "pricey." What I ordered for two people was about $65. Additionally, due to its popularity, especially on weekends, you can expect a line down the street, if you don't get there early. I'm taking a star off because it's impossible to get a hold of this restaurant and since our visit I've called and emailed to get a copy of our receipt to expense, and the phone number is out of service and no one has replied in over a week to my email therefore, I am starting my review with this information as I see the owner replies to all reviews here and can hopefully help out with this! As for my actual visit: the food is beyond excellent, the wait was insanely long, the service is good, the atmosphere inside is comfortable, hot drinks were yummy, prices above average. Sunday afternoon wait (during Dreamforce weekend, not sure if that's what caused the delay or if that's usual for this place as we were visiting) was over 45 minutes. Was a tough wait when you're hungry and it's raining but was easier than trying to find somewhere else at that point. After being seated warmly inside and a memorable meal, the wait felt, at least, worth it. Not that I'd be keen to do that again, however. Bill came to approx. $80 for 2 people, a millionaire bacon add-on and no alcohol, pretty high for brunch imo but a nice treat. I like the asian flair to the dishes and the taste was so delicious. I devoured my SM Omurice. The sauce (I would call it a gravy) on this dish was so amazing on top of well-done fluffy thick scrambled, almost omelette-y eggs, rib-eye and fried rice. The meat was flavorful on its own, soft and I like how it was shredded not chunks. The rice was amazing too with spinach. And that was just one side of the plate! I was happy to get one of those fat pieces of bread that I was eyeing through the window while in line, it was so perfectly crisp and underneath was a bed of golden and purple potatoes that were seasoned just right. The cooks definitely know what they are doing flavor and portion wise. I mean it is a lot of food but we were starving and my companion was able to finish off what I didn't. Otherwise, I'd have enough to take half home. We also tried the Grand Marnier French Toast - amazing. Great idea to mix alcohol into the batter, I'm all for it. The flavor was awesome, with some citrus tones and not too sweet. Bread was soft and paired perfectly with the maple syrup, definitely a hit. I'd highly recommend both these dishes. I wasn't feeling the millionaire bacon, I'm not sure if it was just my taste buds that day..just depends what you like. It's very thick, like more so than typical bacon and had sweet and spice to it. My friend enjoyed it though, said reminded him of jerky. I got a hot chocolate that I loved, the right amount of chocolate powder not overpowering like most diners do and tasted melted marshmallows in there which is the best. Love this place! Only been once but would come back if I was taking an out-of-towner for brunch. I think the owner is similar to that of Blackwood and Kitchen Story, because they all make the Millionaires flight. Key favorites: Millionaires Bacon Flight - pricey but if you've never had it and like to try new things I would definitely recommend it. I don't really like bacon or jerky but these are thicker pieces than bacon and softer/not dry like jerky. I love that you can really taste the unique flavor in each. Definitely a long piece so hopefully you have 1-2 people to share if you don't want to eat a whole by yourself! Blackstone - love the colored potatoes (although they don't really taste different, just looks pretty!) Benedict's done well. Couldn't ask for more! What a gem! I have been here a couple times and each time I am further impressed. We got really lucky and were seated almost immediately (table for 2). There were several large parties in front of us but we were prepared to wait. We split a side of Millionaires bacon and I tell you this was the most delicious thing on the menu! San Franciscans love their brunch. Need proof? Sweet Maple still had people queueing for a table past 2 p.m. on a Sunday. Inside was loud. Seriously, if I came here again I'd wear noise-cancelling headphones and learn sign language. Trying to enjoy brunch while my friend and I yelled across our small table to be heard was the opposite of relaxing. Sweet Maple is brought to you by the same folks who run Surisan, a place near the Wharf that I very much like. Surisan isn't quiet but compared to Sweet Maple it's a library. Where Surisan has an intriguing menu that veers off into Korean fare; Sweet Maple sticks mostly to variations on the type of food we traditionally associate with brunch. Think benedicts, scrambles, and omelets (yay for omelets which seem to be disappearing from brunch menus throughout the City). What Sweet Maple and its offshoots are known for is Millionaire's Bacon. I like it but not enough to spring for a $20 sampler plate. Instead, I shared a Blackstone Benedict ($20.50) of which the bacon is but one component. The fact that it didn't stand out, sandwiched between all the other ingredients, was fine but if you've never had Millionaire's Bacon order it as a side (or a sampler) rather than an ingredient in a Benedict. The Benedict was tasty and perfectly executed right down to the runny-yoked eggs. I also shared Omurice ($20; Jasmine rice, spinach, scallion, marinated ribeye, scrambled egg, & sriracha demi-glaze), a hearty entree bearing a strong resemblance to the Hawaiian favorite, Loco Moco. Both entrees were accompanied by fried potatoes which could have benefitted from onions and bell peppers. Different types of potatoes were in the mix but fried potatoes are far tastier and more interesting when cooked with other vegetables. The line moved quckly and the food was good but the noise level, for me, is a deal breaker. I like my brunch a whole lot more serene than this but - judging by the crowd - I'm in the minority. If you're dining with someone you don't want to talk to, Sweet Maple is your place. read more

(12/21/19) I was going to quote that silly song about that one fellow who "wants to be a billionaire so ****ing bad," but that song is about billionaires, not millionaires, and certainly not about Millionaire's Bacon. Let us go back in time to 2016, when I was searching for a restaurant that served bottomless mimosas in San Francisco. My brother and I were blueprinting a grueling urban hike throughout the city hills, but not until we were sufficiently placated with champagne and juice. Say what you will, but it was a good plan. And so it happened! Sweet Maple caught my attention, not only because the mimosas were promised to flow like water, but because of this Millionaire's Bacon they seemed so prideful about. I thought that this sugar-encrusted take on bacon was a common thing that many places did, but I was intrigued to learn that Sweet Maple is where the delicacy originated. In fact, a couple other restaurants where I've ordered Millionaire's Bacon were founded by the same gentleman who started Sweet Maple. The more you know! Anyway, we have visited Sweet Maple annually since 2016 to keep up with our tradition, and my food order has always been the same: | Asparagus Blackstone | I order this in omelet form, though they have a Benedict as well should you want something a little less heavy. This omelet contains Millionaire's Bacon, scallions, asparagus, parmesan, and a Hollandaise topping. Now, asparagus? Why not spinach or tomatoes or mushrooms? Don't ask me. They do have many other omelets available, but alas, only this one has the fabled bacon! It is a glorious blend of sweet and tart, and oh-so-filling Justice. The bread and potatoes on the side make for a solid medley to absorb the Hollandaise, but do consider a dollop of their berry jam! A note on the bottomless mimosas: Godspeed if you order them! Expect a glass and a carafe. My initial impression of this setup was, "How quaint! A carafe which we will dispatch slowly, so by the time we're through, we'll be all mimosa'd out!" Wrong. As you make progress with the carafe, servers will swing by your table with a pitcher, refill your glasses, *and also the carafe*. Verily I say unto you, I now understand what bottomless means... the mimosas are without end. We never saw the bottom of the carafe, and if we did, we do not remember. So, there you have it! As with every excellent eatery, I insist you get there early and dine well. A 9:00 A.M. brunch is pushing it; 10 onward, and you shall wait for many moons in a line that wraps outside the door. Sweet Maple is a very special place to enjoy breakfast, lunch or brunch. The menu has a nice range of choices from eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, omelettes, and 'soufleggs', to pancakes, french toast and of course millionaire bacon. There's lots of seating outside, or in, and the staff are friendly and really attentive. There's something for everyone. Just understand though, that the high quality food doesn't come cheap. read more

Ok... I will say this was a very filling and hearty (almost heart attack inducing) breakfast. As being a fan of a more Southern California, lighter breakfast I was a little wary about the selection. Coming in I had never heard of millionaires bacon and upon reading the description I knew I had to try it. It's a bit pricey for 2 pieces of bacon but I can see the appeal. If you like pork belly that's sweet and spicy and perfectly tender, then you must try this. Even if it does cost $8 for 2 pieces. I'm more of a crispy bacon person (almost burnt) and I don't really like the texture of eating fat so I didn't enjoy it too much. I also had the crab benedict. This was amazing. Perfectly balanced flavors. Not too salty or rich. The potatoes that come with the order are very delicious. I like that they use medley potatoes. We came on a Monday around 11am and only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table but I would say it is worth the wait even if it were a weekend and the line was long. read more
