As for the bases, we got half organic Bamboo Rice that has vitamin B, Citrus Kale Superfood Salad with shaved red onion dressed in a citrus vinaigrette, black Forbidden Rice that is antioxidant and fiber rich, and Cauliflower Rice that is Paleo Friendly. While for drinks, we got Citrus Chamomile Tea that has no added sugar and Guava Ginger Lemonade that is sweetened with monk fruit. My boyfriend said this was the best poke he has ever had, because you can really taste the high quality poke ingredients. These bowls felt healthy and filling and I liked the Gochujang salmon more than the spicy tuna, because it got too spicy for me after eating too much of it. I was impressed how kale on the bottom and the toppings and the dressing went so well together and it was tasty! I do get sick and tired of salad sometimes but I was downing this one. However spicy ahi was not good at all. First their cubes are very small. Second the texture was very mushy and watery....frozen for sure. And the portion is small. I went for a signature bowl instead of going for the BYOB because it looks like you can only choose the one protein as a fish. Went for the gochujang salmon which was $9.95 for a small. It had a gochujang sauce, asparagus, shittake, bean sprouts, crispy garlic in it. You go on to step 3, which is to choose a base: Bamboo Rice Kelp Noodle Slaw Citrus Kale Salad Forbidden Rice. Step 4 is to choose one of their many choices of add ons (some are premium like avocado). I went for the bamboo rice and added mango, avocado, cilantro, seaweed salad, and even more crispy garlic. It came out in a reasonable time and I was excited. They are right in that the quality is better, as the sauce was salty and meshed well with the salmon. However, the rice was wet and did not taste all that great, and having the sauce in there as a liquid didn't really help it out as well. The ingredients are fresh here but for the amount that you get and how much you get charged, I feel it is not worth it (especially the size + price that you can get at other places are about the same for 2-3x the size). It hurts my heart to update this review. I must start by stating I'm a HUGE fan of Sweetfin and am absolutely obsessed with the Spicy Tuna poke bowl with bamboo rice. However, the other day I ordered my usual via Postmates and was beyond disappointed with the quality of the food in which I received. The tuna was nearly inedible! There were stringy white pieces of fat that kept the all of the chopped tuna pieces connected to each other in the most unappetizing way. Usually the tuna here melts in your mouth, however the tuna I received was so hard and chewy, I couldn't even break it apart with my teeth. It's easy to get of all the salad type spots in DtLA. So, it was good to see a new poke joint in the area. Sweetfin is another one of "those" poke joints breaking into the poke market share. What I like about Sweetfin is that the have signature bowls along with the Chipotle style choose from many options. The options here a bit more extensive and better quality than most places. Sweetfin has a bamboo rice, forbidden rice, kelp noodle straw, citrus kale salad as bases. A bit different and unique. I tried the forbidden rice which is a short grain rice milled with chlorophyll from bamboo. Supposedly good for you. It added a different flavor which I enjoyed. My poke combo was tuna doused with black garlic gochujang which is a Korean spiced garlic sauce. Topped with crispy garlic, crispy onions, wasabi furikake, cilantro, seaweed and cucumber. Rice grains are chewy, perfectly cooked, and is mixed in some green flake (maybe furikake?). This is my preferred base though I did give the kale salad and kelp noodles a try. They were just okay, but not a great complement to the bowl. -fresh fish. I like the big chunks of fish, and the sauces are generally good. The salmon yuzu is a bit bland. The spicy tuna with avocado is good, and most recently, I got the gojuchang salmon which was more salty that red pepper paste-y, but still good. Things that make this place a 3-star: -Small portions / not great value. The small bowl is $9 and not great value. -Some sauces might be bland. The seasoning is kind of hit and miss, but if you stick with bamboo rice, that should be plenty salty to complement the fish. I have had a lot of mediocre poke but this place really stands out. Their ingredients are very fresh, bright and colorful. Their combinations, sauce choices and toppings/mix-ins list are also a mile long. Portions are big and it's very affordable, under $10 a bowl. They divide their menu into 1) signature pre made combinations and 2) BYOB (build your own bowl). They have two vegan options: tofu or chopped vegetables. I would never think these would be good compared to tuna, salmon, albacore, snapped... but the tofu was amazing! I love that they have non-rice bases in addition to their green short grain bamboo rice (it's milled with chlorophyll). The others are kelp noodle cucumber slaw (the best in my opinion) and citrus kale salad so you can go low carb. Prices are excellent: $8.95-9.95 for a small or $7.95 for vegetarian. They pile then bowl deep so a small is just enough food for most people. Free water and ice dispenser... but the automatic sensing does not work. Is okay for DT. 3. Portion. It is TERRIBLE. You get ONE protein. For almost $10. And maybe an extra dollar or so for a tip. I was still SOOO hungry after I finished eating. My bf had to ask for extra rice. But still so hungry. We asked the couple next to us and they said they're going to chipotle cause they were too. It'll be okay if the price is lower or offer 2-3 potien for that price. Or even give more rice or toppings. So disappointed. 4. The workers are all nice though. Good poke, but small portions. I frequent this Sweetfin location pretty often as I work in DTLA and have Mealpal. Otherwise, I wouldn't pay full price. That being said, the fish seems to be pretty fresh and there are a lot of options for customization. I've tried the Truffle Yuzu Tuna and the Yuzu Salmon Bowls. They were both different but enjoyable nonetheless. If you like truffle, get the Truffle Yuzu. The Truffle Yuzu had a very prominent truffley flavor that I enjoyed and there was a touch of refreshing yuzu to cut the overly-richness of the truffle. The Yuzu Salmon was also pretty good. Before having this, I thought I didn't like jicama. But the fresh crunch of the fruit went very well with the soft fattiness of the salmon. Again, a very balanced bowl in terms of flavors. I'm over the whole poke craze to be honest. But one finally opened in walking distance to my husband's work so we decided to swing by for lunch one day. I opted to make my own bowl - large half albacore, half snapper in kale salad topped with avocado, wasabi tobiko, shishito peppers, seaweed salad, and edamame. I asked for the sriracha ponzu dressing on the side. Although I had my dressing the side, their kale salad came drenched already in its own citrus sauce? and I found that overwhelmingly salty. The $1 surcharge for their premium toppings - especially shishito peppers - was not justified. I forgot I even asked for shishito peppers until I finished my bowl. Totally didn't see any traces of them while eating. For $16 plus tax, my bowl was only half filled. I left with still grumbling stomach and emptier wallet. Salvador, the manager, is rude, dismissive and a liar. I was confused when I walked in and was told my pickup order from Postmates wasn't ready considering the app said it was. The manager mentioned my name and told me the order had not gone through and that it was the apps issue so I had to contact them because he had not gotten paid. He raised his voice and gave me attitude. Fast forward to me calling Postmates, where Salvador used my phone to connect with Postmates. He told them he had seen the order and had not accepted it. He wanted me to place the order again directly through the store. I added the rice, cilantro, edamame, pineapple and crushed onions on top with the citrus sauce. Not bad! Sweetfin doesn't make your order in front of you as I'm used to at other poke establishments. Why is Sweetfin sooooo expensive?? I ordered a regular salmon bowl with the Creamy Togarashi sauce and a variety of toppings like edamame, mango, cucumbers, etc. I was definitely kinda annoyed that I could only get 5 toppings, when at most places you can get unlimited. I do have to say the fish and toppings all did taste really fresh. The small was not enough to fill me up, so I'll have to get the large bowl next time, which is $15. $15 for poke is way too high, even if we are in LA. read more

This Sweetfin Poke is across from the Mall on 7th street downtown. The premises are very clean and they have an excellent selection of choices. I decided on the Salmon bowl with garlic sauce and added on extras like avocado, macadamia nuts, asparagus, radishes, cucumbers, the works. The result was the best Poke Bowl I've had this year(year is new but this will be hard to beat this year). Service by Manager Luis was excellent, very knowledgeable and on point.
