This is my all-time favorite restaurant! It's a small two story restaurant located in the outer Sunset district. The parking can be tricky since it's located in a residential neighborhood. The service is fast and friendly. No visit to San Francisco is complete without the Roast Crab from Thanh Long. The garlic noodles are also popular but the Roast Crab is definitely the star. The sauce is absolutely amazing! It's no wonder it's made in their secret kitchen within the kitchen. It's pricey but so worth it.
Came here for Valentines Day for an early dinner and had a wonderful time! On a busy day like Valentine's, the food came out fast and the service was great. The roast crab and garlic noodles were just as delicious as I remembered. They really do have the best garlic noodles in SF!I will always come here for those two items. I ordered the lychee martini and it was a tad strong for my palette. Parking can be a little difficult, so make sure to allocate some time to not be late. Will always come back anytime I am craving crab and garlic noodles!
The food was OK. It's been over five years since I've been back here and then I remembered why. My brother took my mom and I in here for Mother's Day this year. We were eager to try the garlic noodles but when they served them, they didn't taste the same. The Portions were so so, but I guess this place is only known for its crab and possibly garlic noodles. I really big cleanness and the walls were pretty nasty. They looked as if they haven't been wiped down for months and then I'll have a very bad taste in my mouth, but maybe I'm just too picky.
Oh. My. God. Every time I come back to the Bay Area -- which is home to me -- I make it a point to eat GOOD food. This visit, I randomly told my brother I was craving seafood (which is funny because I usually don't come here for seafood). But it's crab season in the Bay, so we did a little TikTok/Instagram research and found 10 Long. First things first: make a reservation. This place gets PACKED. It's a small, mom-and-pop style spot on a corner, super cozy but very popular. We walked in and were greeted by the cutest host ever. There's also a bar, which is a plus. We already knew what we wanted and ordered: * Shaken beef * Shrimp toast * Roasted crab (market price) * Garlic noodles with prawn We even asked our server if it was too much food, and she confidently told us we'd be fine -- and she was absolutely right. Customer service was a solid 10/10 from start to finish. We both ordered drinks, and I had a white wine that paired perfectly with seafood (I was very happy about that). Everyone was incredibly friendly and attentive. They even give you crab crackers/tools to open the crab, which I appreciated. And when I say that crab was FILLED with meat, I mean FILLED. Yes, it's market price and can get pricey -- our whole crab was $88 -- but it was 100% worth it. Food breakdown: * Shaken beef: 10/10 -- insanely tender and flavorful * Garlic noodles with prawn: 10/10 -- perfect balance of garlic, butter, and whatever magic they put in there * Roasted crab with buttery garlic sauce: absolutely amazing * Shrimp toast: 8/10 -- good, but probably wouldn't order it again Normally with crab or seafood, I feel like I need rice -- but here, you don't. The noodles and crab are more than enough. Nothing felt wasted or overly heavy, and we didn't leave feeling uncomfortably full at all. We arrived earlier when it was still calm, but by around 7:30 PM, the place got very crowded -- another reason reservations are a must. This is an amazing date night spot, special-occasion worthy, and just an overall vibe. Yes, it's on the pricier side -- but the quality, service, and experience make it well worth it. I will absolutely be back next time I'm in the Bay Area.
I used to eat at their An the Go trucks back in college and suddenly had craving for their noodles and beef. Thought id finally make the trip to their restaurant. Althought pricing May be on the expensive side, the service and taste is spectacular. Food is serve just a few minutes after ordering and their wait staff is very attentive. Just watch for the receipt as service charge is already included.
Still the absolute best crab in the city. The food is so damn good! The service was good but not the greatest. The staff are moving fast & attentive but its not personable. It was our birthday & they did nothing to help us celebrate that ( yes I made a note on the reservation). I hoped for more after spending over $200$. We had a reservation but they sat us about 10 min late. The ambiance needs some improvement its pretty casual as is. I would still go back cuz the crab is AMAZING!
We came to Thanh Long to celebrate my birthday. We had made reservations and were seated immediately after checking in. The restaurant itself is older, pretty deep, and has upstairs seating as well. Since we were a larger party, we ordered a handful of items including: steamed sea bass, shaken beef, 2 crabs (tamarind and roasted), garlic noodles, and eggplant. The seasoning on both crabs were pretty salty so we had to order some white rice to tame the flavor. Based on taste and the size of the menu, personally I prefer PPQ in the Richmond more. I'm glad I was able to try this long standing restaurant and their service was solid, but I probably wouldn't come back as often.
This place was amazing. As soon as you walk in, there's a nice bar to your right, and the vibe immediately feels welcoming. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time--the wait can get pretty long--but I promise, it's worth it. The atmosphere is intimate while still being great for groups, and the staff were all incredibly friendly and accommodating. We ordered their most popular dishes, the roast crab and garlic noodles, and it did not disappoint. So simple, yet so flavorful--absolutely mouthwatering . They were out of the seafood dumplings, but the staff recommended the calamari instead. It came with a well-balanced dipping sauce that paired perfectly. The only downside of the meal was the steamed rice--it was overcooked and a bit hard, which threw me off. Aside from that (and the struggle to find parking, but that's SF for you), this place is a must-go!
An SF staple! I made reservations for 4 at 6:15pm on a Sunday. Parking is limited, I suggest parking closer to the beach and walking, which isn't too far, just dress warm! Crispy Rice Paper Roll: ($14) 7/10! They only provide 2 rolls cut in half, so it's truly just an appetizer. Roast Crab: ($88) 10/10! Super pricey for one, which is 2lbs. One was enough for my party, however 2 might be more filling. I love the oil and pepper in the crab!! Garlic Noodles: ($16) 10/10! We ordered 2 plates which was enough. Note that one plate is enough for 1-2 people as it is a small plate. Steamed Sea Bass: ($42) 4/10. Very tiny, sauce was just lemon-ey. Not the best, but pretty good if dipped in the crab oil! Chocolate Lava Cake: 9/10! They make this there, and it's delicious! I'm typically hesitant about chocolate cake and this one was delicious, which vanilla bean ice cream. Recommended by our waiter! Fried Banana a La Mode: 6/10! Not bad, included ice cream, but the lava cake takes the lead. You can also ask for free birthday ice cream upon request! Overall, a great place to celebrate an occasion. Very pricey for what you get, but I was very satisfied with my meal!
omg holy crab THE FOOD WAS AMAZING!!!! Unless you're allergic or out of your mind, you HAVE to get the garlic noodles. So buttery, garlicy in the most perfect way. The sauce coats the noodles well and the egg noodles are perfectly soft. The roasted crab...ADDICTING! High quality crab meat in the most delicious garlic, butter, salt, and pepper sauce. MMMM I was obsessed. The thanh long fish was good but could've used more dill in my opinion. Shrimp toast was moist and flavorful and great way to start the meal. Service was fast and attentive, but the crab was so good, I barely noticed the waiters LOL Would LOVE to come here again. I think it's the perfect get together spot that can be casual but also seems more upscale.
So glad I finally got experience this SF institution. Did it live up to the hype? Yup! We went for the collosal shrimp and the roasted crab. Tons of flavor in both dishes. My partner and I regretted not ordering the toast to sop up all the savory, peppery butter left over from the crab. Dobt sleep on the the fried banana dessert! It was a perfect way to end the meal! The service was great. They were busy, but our server was still able to provide us warm, genuine, good service. We can't wait to come back to try the other crab dishes.
My family has been coming to this restaurant since the early 70's. So this is my all time favorite restaurant. Since I moved to the East Bay , I don't come here as often as I would like to and also it's hell expensive but worth it lol. What I order ..... Crab puffs 8/10 Crispy spring roll 2/10 ( I almost asked for my money back . This use to be my favorite item to eat her and it did not taste good . No one at my table enjoyed it .. sorry being honest . Roasted Crab 10/10 garlic noodles with the Tiger prawns 10/10 Garlic fried rice 8/10 Seafood rice 8/10 Fried banana 10/10 Cheesecake 10/10 Customer services 10/10 My only complaint is that I wish they would bring back the fried pineapple and go back to the old recipe for the crispy spring rolls.

Crab was cooked very nicely. Probably the best roast crab I've had in SF. GARLIC NOODLES An's famous noodles made with our special garlic sauce & secret spices 13.50 4/5. Garlic noodles were quite tasty. Definitely one of the best ones I've had. SEASONAL VEGETABLE SAUTÉ , 12.5 3/5. Just some sauteed green beans. Wish they cut off the ends. Service was good. read more
Yeah sometimes being the first doesn't necessarily mean being the best. Thanh Long is famous for being the birth place of Garlic Noodles. The garlic noodles were tasty, and probably the only sensibly priced item on the menu. However, the texture left much to be desired. I wish they were a bit more al dente, instead they were soft and soggy. Still the best garlic noodles in the bay, but when compared to Vox Kitchen in SoCal, it's not even close. Everything here is way too expensive... $40 for a tiny portion of shaken beef... $80 for roast crab... Hell no! Service is decent for the most part. The food came out super quick. However, they forgot to give us the plastic bibs for protection. Looking back, this place is cool to try as a one and done, but overall, it's not justified. Shoutout to ShoPhoCho. read more
Straight Outta the Bay, With Hella Garlic and Love I'm from San Francisco, and it's been years since I last slid through Thanh Long. But man... coming back here in 2025 reminded me where my love for seafood came from as well as my international pallet. I still remember my very first time back in 2011... them garlic noodles and roasted crab touched my pallet in a way I never felt before. And let me tell you: the game ain't changed not one bit there. If anything, it's been upgraded like a '64 Impala on switches. Let's start with that legendary roasted crab. Now it's a smooth $85. It use to be way cheaper but let's keep it a buck. This crab ain't no weak, overcooked, basic crustacean. Nah. This is that fresh out the Bay, caught by humble fishermen type of crab. Soaked, marinated, baptized -- whatever you wanna call it, in a mix of garlic, salt, pepper, butter, and a secret something... something that makes you forget your own name. It's so rich and flavorful you'll be licking your fingers scooping up all that goodness. The garlic noodles? Bruhhhhh.... These things should come with a warning label and a pair of fresh socks. Because your current ones? GONE. Knocked clean off your feet. They're al dente, buttery, garlicky perfection. Like your grandma and a Vietnamese chef got together and decided to change your life forever. The vibes when you walk in? Slightly classy but comfortable. Chill ambiance, and that signature garlic aroma letting you know you're in the right place. And shoutout to the staff: customer service is attentive , respectful, and straight-up on point. From the moment we walked in to the second we rolled out full and happy & had extra to-go orders! Thanh Long is an iconic SF establishment in the Sunset renowned for inventing garlic noodles and having a must-try roasted crab dish. It was honestly amazing seeing so many crabs get sent out from the kitchen within an hour before closing time. My friends and I visited after a trip to Ocean Beach and had a pleasant dining experience here! recs: garlic noodles price: ~$50/person - Garlic Noodles: Buttery, kind of cheesy? Noodles cooked to perfection and really addictive. I loved these. Given the relatively small size of the tiger prawns, I'd say just order the garlic noodles straight or pair them with appetizers. - Shaken Beef: Generous portion of well-seasoned beef on a bed of salad with pieces of what tasted like yam. Pretty pricey but filling if you're looking for a meat dish. - Sautéed Seasonal Vegetables: Inoffensive! Well-seasoned. Nice freshness to cut the butter from the garlic noodles. Overall, this meal was pretty pricey, but I'm glad we came to try this famous dish. I have yet to see any other establishment replicate the flavor and texture of these garlic noodles. Went on a Sunday for dinner and it was extremely busy! We got the tiger prawns and the shaking beef. The prawns were excellent, and the garlic noodles were buttery. Shout out to Carol for being on top of everything tonight! She made us very comfortable during our dinner and was super attentive despite it being busy for Mother's Day. However, this 3-star review is ONLY about the food and has nothing to do with the service. We ordered the calamari, shaken beef, garlic noodles, sautéed veggies, and iconic roast crab and everything came out in a timely manner. Calamari was VERY salty.. pretty sure the cooks were heavy handed on the salt with this dish. Roast crab was really pepper heavy. I love me some pepper, but I fear that's all you tasted and it was quite overpowering. I prefer more of a garlic, buttery taste on my crab but that's just self preference. It's unfortunate because the menu lists that the crab is roasted in a garlic sauce, but I really didn't taste it all that much. Garlic noodles, veggies, and beef were great. Unfortunately, I don't think I'd go out of my way to come here again. Prices are steep too -- $82 for a roasted crab I didn't really enjoy is a bummer. Parking is a challenge in this area. Thanh Long never disappoints!!! We have been going to this restaurant in the sunset for years... and we love it! We came for Thanksgiving Eve dinner. The staff is friendly, the food is yummy and ambience is just right, always busy. I checked Chat GPT for facts... Thanh Long NEVER disappoints. From the service, to the ambiance and the food. During my last visit sat upstairs which was new for me. We ordered two servings of the Thanh Log Mussels (New-Zealand green-lip mussels broiled with Asian pesto $16.50), Salt & Pepper Calamari (in a light salt & pepper batter, seasoned with scallions & red peppers $18), Garlic Noodles (An's Famous noodles made with Thanh Long's special garlic sauce & secret spices $15), Combo Wok Egg Noodles (Sautéed with chicken and prawns, vegetables, chili & Soya combination $19.95) and three orders of the Roast Crab (A whole Dungeness crab roasted with An's garlic sauce & secret spices $MKT). The Thanh Log Mussels are DELICIOUS EVERY SINGLE TIME hence the double order of them! They are full of garlicky goodness! The Salt & Pepper Calamari are also super flavorful with the perfect crunchy texture. I didn't try the Combo Wok Egg Noodles. The garlic noodles have that dry garlic flavor. I don't usually eat much of the garlic noodles, but they're ale a favorite. The Roast Crab is the star of the show and is ALWAYS buttery and delicious with that blend of secret spices. Everything was served hot and our waiter was mindful of when to place the orders for the crab to provide us with enough time to enjoy our appetizers. Ive been wanting to try Thanh Long forever and finally made it here on a Sunday afternoon. We found street parking easily and walked over to the location on the corner. From the outside, this place is very unassuming - you can't really see inside, the colors are bland and the sign is faded. But everyone has told us that it's definitely worth the hype. We walked in and the place was already super busy at 6pm. We were greeted right away and walked to our table. We were pretty hungry and wanted to try and few different dishes besides their famous crab and garlic noodles. So we also ordered the calamari and mussels. Everything was AMAZING!!! And the service was impeccable. We definitely understand the hype now and will be returning soon! read more
ADDICTION WARNING! If I would have went here on my first night in the Bay Area I would have absolutely been back every single day because it just THAT good. Are you kidding me right now? I'm going to be searching high and low for something even remotely close to this crab and noodles that I was able to enjoy. The crab is by far the freshest and best seasoned that I've had prepared this way. Service was fast and the drinks are well made and tasty, a little on the sweeter side but pairs well with the savory food dishes. We had a reservation and were seated quickly as we got there right when they opened. The staff was kind and helpful and regularly cleared the bowls of shells as we were eating which kept the table clean which was nice. Everything is great about Thanh Long! 1st the service is too notch! They are always on top of it and constantly refreshing your bowls for shells. At the end you get hot towels for your face and hands. The food is always great and i always get the crab. The pepper and butter seasoning are top tier! I crack all my crab, add the delish garlic noodles to the plate and feast! You can dress up or down! I never feel under dressed wearing jeans or over dressed wearing a beautiful dress! The power of delicious crabs. Take the most talkative person you know and watch how silent the table becomes. The seasoning and butter flavor sticks so well to the meat making each bite juicy and delicious. We took my daughter here for maintaining good grades (4.0). So proud of her. We had the roast crabs, garlic noodles, salt and pepper calamari and lemongrass chicken. read more
The food and service was excellent. I've always heard great things about this restaurant and I finally had the opportunity to experience it for myself. The roasted crab was everything I dreamed of and the garlic noodles were superb. I also had an order of the garlic shrimp and I was equally impressed. The vibe was very chill and I was comfortable going in after a long day at the beach even though I wasn't dressed up as nice, I managed to get through the meal without any rudeness or strange stairs even though I looked a mess lol read more

Omg the crab is soooooo good. In fact, everything is good. I'm still thinking about it afterwards. Air was our server and he was the sweetest! Super kind and attentive, he made sure we were okay throughout our dinner. He's super intuitive and anticipates your needs. Air instantly grabbed us warm, moist towels for our hands after we were done with our crab. He was so attentive - I thought he read my mind!! He saw that my hands were still buttery from the first towels and instantly ran back to get me another warm towel as a napkin. So so kind!!! I hope Air gets a raise because the service was so amazing. Really liked my lychee martini, butter garlic crab, and garlic noodles with prawn!! Will be back! read more

The freshest and sweetest crab we have ever had! We got the Roast Crab and the Tamarind Crab. The Tamarind had a sweet tang that had us dipping our crab back in the sauce! There's lots of seating, so make sure to book a reservation to avoid waiting! read more
I had a friend in town & told him it's Dungeness crab season so we must have it for dinner. He found thang long online & when we saw the photos of the crab and garlic noodles we thought "we need that". The restaurant is situated on a semi busy street with other bars and restaurants but it's also close to a neighborhood with free street parking. When we arrived around 5pm the place was packed and we were told we had about an hour wait. (We had no idea this place was a neighborhood staple since 1970!!). The restaurant was busy and lively that evening! When our table was finally ready we ordered right away as we already knew what we wanted to eat and were pretty hungry by this point. We started with the jumbo prawn wontons which were crispy & I loved the prawn with the crunchy pancetta combo. But the real star of the show was the crab. They were huge, but deliciously seasoned with garlic, black pepper and butter & of course paired well with the garlic noodles. The crab was so good we ended up getting a second one! The food was delicious & the service was attentive and friendly. I would love to go back and try some other things on the menu. read more

This has got to be the freshest, most flavorful, succulent crab I've had in my life! Let's start with the seasoning. There's a diverse range of ingredients that makes this dish taste excusite. It's made up of pepper, butter, garlic, a hint of sugar, and a whole host of other secret ingredients that I need to uncover! When you take the fresh crab meat and dip it into the succulent sauce, it hits you like a WRECKING BALL! In a good way. You know that feeling you get when you taste something so incredible, you just have to sit there and contemplate life and what exactly you just ate? Yeah, that happened. And it reoccurred over and over until my dish was empty! And don't get me started on the garlic noodles. I've had my fair share while in Houston and Atlanta,but this one takes the cake. It's not overpowering where the garlic steals the show from all the other flavors. But it blends well makes the noodles shine. Also, the noodles are al dente! For the $85 price tag, it definitely hurt the wallet. But for my culinary adventure it was a MUST TRY. I'll definitely be back! read more

The picture says it all! We got a reservation at the time they opened so when we first got there it wasn't too business but slowly it started getting packed and I can understand why. This dungeon crab was SO good and we came when they were in season! Only thing that sucked was that they charged for soda refills and they used the smallest glass ever and with eating this crab you want soda. read more
We came in for a group of 7 and we had to wait about 30 mins for a table. We ordered the roast crab, garlic noodles with prawns, chicken and shrimp eggplant, and shaking beef. Everything tasted delicious. Service was great, I look forward to coming back again. read more

We had reservations, but traffic wasn't friendly. I've been coming to the"Greasy Crab" aka Thanh Long for many years. I'm not a crab girl, but their Tiger Prawns and Garlic noodles are to die for. If I could give this restaurant 10 stars they'd get 11! read more

What's the best food to order?
The roast crab was delicious. Garlic noodles VERY bland no flavor
How much for roasted crab?
Of course it's market price but I think I spent $80 last time.

uh...ONE! I mean, you can be nice and share. On my last visit, I did share a crab with a cousin along with another dish. We both agreed that the crab is not a shareable item. LOL
Is there an elevator/is it wheelchair accessible?
There are two stories however you can always request the first level being that the entry is wheelchair accessible meaning no stairs at the front of the building.
Do you need a reservation or are walk-ins welcome?
I have gone as a walk-in twice. As long as you don't have a large party you're trying to seat you should be fine. Might have to wait a little because they seem to stay pretty busy.

Can I bring my 9 month old (at 5 pm)?
Sure. I've seen plenty of people with babies there. Although a heads up, there are no changing tables in the restrooms.
On average how much is the famous roast crab?
We paid about $45 for the crab we had, but it really depends on the season and size of the crab; it would be based on "market prices".
Is there parking spaces?
There is valet available right in front or you can look for street parking. No designated parking stalls
Are you allowed to make Togo orders?
Yes! You can either call in a Togo order or if eating at the restaurant at the time you order what you'd like to eat also can let your server know that you would like a Togo order. Togo order will be brought out when you ask for your bill.
