Such an amazing hole in the wall restaurant! It reminded us very much of our time in Japan. A small little place owned by Toshi who also runs the place by himself. He was so friendly and because it was just my boyfriend and me in there, we ended up talking with Toshi for well over an hour. So if you want speedy service on a slow night, don't count on it but he makes up for it in amazing sushi and great conversation. The fish he used was so fresh along with all the veggies that were crisp. We got 4 different rolls: spicy tuna, yellowtail, Toshi roll, and the Eel and Avocado and literally all of them were a hit. The miso soup was some of the best I've ever had and he even surprised us with his own little creation with the leftover spicy tuna so he didn't have to waste it. I will definitely be returning and bringing friends, I could not recommend this place more. Unless you want water or hot tea, you'll need to go next door for some drinks but we will always be down with BYOB lol. Lastly, for everything we got, the total was very doable and reasonable. We love Toshi Sushi!

Small place with interesting, eclectic wall decorations. The house salad is big and comes with fried onion strings, yum! I picked out every last one. The service is great and prices are fair. I really liked Toshi's Wrap roll. There's no rice, instead extra imitation crab meat and cucumber slices in place of the seaweed. Plus TWO tempura shrimp pieces per roll! I loved the stronger shrimp and crabmeat taste. Their sushi has big pieces of fish. Don't judge a place by it's cover and I'm guessing you'll enjoy a visit here.

This is your neighborhood sushi spot. Don't expect high end sushi but this place has all the staples - everything from nigiri, sashimi, hand rolls, to specialty rolls doused in teriyaki sauce or spicy mayo if that's your thing. This place is really close to our house so my husband and I have stopped by twice on a week night just to get our quick sushi fix. The latest time we came was a Tuesday so the restaurant was fairly empty. The chef came by to talk to us since we were the only ones there towards the end of the night. He's really friendly and is actually from Japan. We recently visited Japan in April so we had a nice conversation with him about that. The quality of the sushi isn't too bad but they could work on their service. Their food is very slow to come out and the young waitress working that night clearly seemed confused / flustered. That's our only complaint so far - will probably be back again soon since the location is convenient and the owner seems nice.

After my twins graduated, we headed out for our fave AYCE sushi place, but they were packed. Called Toshi and they said they had space for our party of 10, and we were all SUPER happy to have found out about this place! The dynamite roll is piled with succulent, scallops with the perfect amount of salt and sweet. I wabted to drink the sauce off the plate. The seaweed salad had three different types of salad, all yummy. Tempura served hot and crispy . Rolls were perfect balance of veg/fish/rice. Everything was great! Service was good. Tip: No liquor license, so bring your own beer & sake

Prob my favorite place to eat in the deep valley. Super cheap, super tasty, has lots of top of the line sushi and baked sushi.... Lots of other options if you don't like fish. Cash only but totally worth it. There is an ATM in the 711 next door if you need cash. read more

My husband and I have been coming here since Toshi first opened...we live just blocks away and get our Toshi Sushi on at least weekly. Amazing! Large portions, super fresh, and oh so tasty! Never disappoints :-) I'm asian and have had my fair share of sushi and can honestly say Toshi is definitely up there. And the icing on the cake is the friendly staff :-) read more

Delicious! The staff was so friendly! It was my first time and they gave me some extra sushi for free. It was so sweet. I got the spicy tuna crispy rice it was super yum, and the salmon sushi was just what I wanted. It was very inexpensive also, 7 pieces of sushi for under $10? Nice! :) I will def be going back. read more

This is my go to place every week! The chef Julio is such a nice man! The spicy sauce that he makes for me every time is just to die for... Just ask for chile sauce... It has onions tho... My most favorite rolls are Baked Lobster and Langustino roll! Can never get enough if those! He knows his customers by heart and jokes around with all of them! The Only thing i dont like is the fact that they have only one server at all times... Who works really fast and all... But i think it doesnt look too good :) overall its a great place! Ok I don't know if i had high hopes for this place because of the great reviews but it just didn't live up to my expectations. I went with my boyfriend and we both got the spicy tuna platter i think it was? Anyway it wasn't bad, it was just not as good as i thought it would be. Maybe I was let down because i was imagining finding a little gem close by, or maybe because again, the raving reviews but it just wasn't as impressive as i thought it was going to be. Besides that the ambiance was really crappy and i kinda figured it would be because of the pictures posted but idk when i walked in it felt very drab and it kinda did have that greasy smell another yelper talked about lol. I don't know if i'd return, probably not... But to make this review fair they may have other awesome rolls that we just didn't get to try but this was just my experience. read more

Omg im in heaven right now... im still here at the restaurant about to get a food coma. I love this place. Its quaint, clean, quiet and the food is fantastic. I had the Toshi roll and it was just perfection. And the sushi chef is so cute and nice. He's very happy to be here making you beautiful, delicious plates. Right as i was about to leave he stopped me and gave me a free little bowl of watermelon pieces. What a nice touch :-) Come on over ppl you need some of this! read more

Fresh fish, courteous, and friendly. The food is the bombbb, they really want to please you and care about customers, so don't let the appearance fool you! They use high quality fish. I have been coming here for years and they have never failed me. I love how fresh the sushi is and that is it bigger than a quarter size like every other sushi place. My favorite thing is that rather than 6 pieces they are 8 pieces on your plate. Not to mention the service. They are both amazing and Jose knows japanese despite him being Latino. I love all there selections. I would recommend this little gem to everyone. BUT BRING CASH!!! read more

They were open at 11am. It was my lunch break. I ordered the Bento box . Beef short ribs was so tasty. California rolls were good. Green iced tea was good. Miso soup was yummy. All in all I really loved my lunch! We even got complimentary sushi called Lily roll! Go visit this place and experience a great meal! read more

I came here twice with two different friends and I have to say that I was impressed. Both of the chefs/waiters were really sweet and friendly. The sushi was delicious and filling which is rare. I remember they surprised us twice on the same night with sushi on the house which was cool and with an artistically cut pineapple when we were done. I guess they were on a giving mood. Haha. Prices are decent and it's overall a very good place to relax. The only downside is that it's cash only which caught me off guard the first time I went. I really recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a fun and enjoyable experience. read more

This place is fantastic!!!!! Julio and all the rest of the staff are super nice and very attentive. They truly give 5 star service in a not so 5 star location, which is so rare to find!! The food is the best sushi I've ever had. The baked scallop roll is phenomenal. So is the firecracker and the crispy rice. Julio gave us a complimentary roll and it was so amazing. They also have the best Philadelphia roll ever. Absolutely loved it!!!! read more

Maybe they got the memo about decor because now there's some color on the walls and four huge Asian fans. The large teriyaki photos behind the sushi bar are a bit tacky but whatever. Since I sat in while waiting for my take out, the portions in my chirashi bowl were monstrous. The waiter also gave me a glass of water which I think was very nice also. It's late and I was hungry. Quickly checked Yelp for places around me for dinner, I decided to hit this place. I walked at 7:45pm on a Wednesday night and the whole place was empty with only one table of customer - not a good sign. Kind of weird to just walk out, I sat down and order a teriyaki chicken plate and mixed tempura. The shrimp tempura was a joke, probably the smallest shrimp tempura that I have ever eaten in my whole life. Chicken teriyaki is blend. I probably should have ordered sushi, but the empty place gave me a weird feeling and I didn't want to eat raw fish at a sketchy place. If anything, it's cheap. read more

Stick to the rolls and nigiri.

That's what makes it a great restaurant. Becoming a regular here has been a delight, especially after finding our favorite items and sections of the menu. The service was unremarkable at first, but with some geniality and consideration, the servers will open up to you and take care of you. Over the past year or so, we've come to appreciate Alex, who always makes sure our meals are delicious. The restaurant itself is temperate and not too loud with plenty of space between tables/booths. The music playing is not too loud and allows for conversation to flow. They upgraded their ordering system to a tablet-based system a while ago, which has greatly streamlined the ordering process. If you're looking for recommendations on what to order, I highly recommend trying one of the AYCE options and ordering the lemon pepper salmon nigiri (I order at least 50 pieces of it every time!). The eel, salmon, and tuna nigiri are also great choices. The cucumber salad is a new favorite side we found, alongside the brussel sprouts, edamame, and green beans.

She was patient when he worked up the courage to ask for some items and brought extra cucumbers for him to snack on. We sit on the patio since our kids get a little rowdy and messy.

I liked the black sesame slight more. We also tried both of the shave ice and it was refreshing despite of being slightly too sweet.

Don't let the strip mall under estimated appearance for you. This is a Beverly Hills quality sushi restaurant with Van Nuys prices. I feel guilty just leaving this review because I don't want people to discover it. But at the same time he deserves to be supported as this is the best sushi around. We are so lucky to have discovered this place and enjoyed it for the past couple years. It's the best date night around. read more

If it was bad before now let's sadly even worse. Don't know if they sold it, but now it's a one person operation. Rolls came out falling apart, and not as the description said. Food is mediocre. The fish is not fresh. Order eel hand roll , the seaweed is mushy. The place is kind of dirty, the menu and table is sticky. I should have left when I saw the chef is Latino. It is not a good sign. The only positive thing is the food potion is reasonable. read more
