Cute little place. Went on a Sunday an hour before they closed and my gf and I were the only customers (even got the hook up on a miso refill). Great cucumber avocado rolls and miso, we even had their habanero spicy sauce that was really really good. It's close to our place now and we will definitely be return customers. Sushi is great. Small place and it gets warm (hot days can be tricky) Why I switched to takeout. Lobster roll is my favorite. I'm not very adventurous with my sushi. Staff is nice and very helpful. Cash only but atm next door. Parking has never been a problem. Prices are reasonable. read more

I decided to go for my lunch and walked in I sat myself, they didn't greet me as when I go to other sushi restaurants. As soon as the cashier person/waiter saw me sat down and when he finished with another person came and took my order since I had already decided what I wanted. I got a miso soup, a firecracker roll and spicy tuna hand roll. The food was great! The firecracker roll was amazing, the spicy tuna hand roll was amazing as well.The service was good but not great but the food was super good so they deserve the 5 stars. Julio and jose are at "super ninja" this place is the best around! The miso soup says it all it is so tasty and amazing.The chef is funny and very knowledgable of the fish. the cuts he does are thick and delicious. Absolutely amazing. Julio is an artist and a remarkable host as well. His staff are all equally courteous. You'd never know from looking in - it's in a suburban type mall and with so many other hole-in-the-wall joints in similar locations you might not take a chance. We where frequent customers of this place when Julio and Jose where around, we would always call for pick ups. today I gave it a try with high hopes but the soup was watered down the rolls where falling apart and the chicken teriyaki was missing the teriyaki sauce plus there was a hair in our food, all in all we will not be going back. We were regulars for years at the Encino location. We went last Friday and our hearts almost broke when we saw the lights were off. But the sign on the entrance said that Toshi had moved to this location. So we went! It's a smaller restaurant and they are still setting up the decor. But we got our favorites: Miguel Angel roll, Diet Roll and Shrimp Ryan roll. Anything you get here will knock your socks off. It's the same wonderful staff, fantastic sushi and Toshi was rolling behind the bar. Follow Toshi to NoHo! (Also, they DO accept credit cards.) read more

What can I say? We love Toshi. I have to admit when we first heard he was closing the doors to his Ventura location we were bummed. After all it was only four miles from our house. However, given that the Ventura location was our go to spot we had to follow Toshi and so we did. With that said, I can definitely say that we were not disappointed. The customer service is on point they always know what my drink order is, my water and tea cup are never empty, they always check on us and they love my babies and my babies just love them. I went Friday for mommy and son date night and all of the staff played and talked with him. As for the food, it's still delicious, it's very fresh, and never fishy. Some of my favorites are the albacore with crispy onion, the Miguel Angel, the Toshi roll, Vanessa's roll, toro is on point, the eel is great, if you're looking for cooked rolls then the baked lobster (my babies love it too) and the bsc roll. If you're looking for something for the kiddos my two year old loves toshi's fried rice with shrimp, the tempura and the green tea ice cream (of course). Also I did see that Toshi has implemented some of the old rolls that were severed by his previous employees on his special board. I just haven't tried them. read more

The prices are pretty high for the quality of sushi. Its a really small place that has about 8 small tables, I found that they were under staffed especially for lunch. It took over 1 hour to get my our food. read more

Please read!! Very dirty place. I saw ants all around the trash. I also saw the chef go to the back to sneeze in his hands and came back out to make sushi for another customer. Disgusting. They also had ran out of multiple menu items. Plus the coloring and quality of the fish did not look fresh. No wonder the place was empty on a Saturday night. I recently moved to Sherman oaks from Playa (sigh), and have been desperately trying to find great sushi around here. Not much selection in these parts, and what they do have does NOT compare to the westside! But Toshi saved the day! Very, very good sushi, a little pricey compared to comparable sushi on the westside but what do u do? Run down hole in the wall, so hesitant to take guests here.....but the best sushi I've tried so far. Great sushi chefs, enjoyed my little visit. First sushi bar I ever went to were there were no Asian chefs, but rest assured had over 20 years experience preparing sushi. The sushi is some of the best I have ever had. This is my new go to for a nice casual Japanese meal--just opened in March (it's cash only at this time) and they don't advertise. They have a nice variety on their menu for the space they have and it's very fresh with thoughtful presentation. The ambiance is peaceful and clean and simple, the service is gracious and courteous (they speak fluent Japanese and have worked with Toshi in the past at the Silverlake location) and the food is what I like.
