Xinjiang is a typical skewers experience. Eat may sticks, but feel barely full... but the nice thing is you get to try a little of everything. Though the wait time was about 30 minutes and the area is cramped, the wall projections and karaoke promotions are well enjoyed. My table ordered a variety of items that could be expected of any skewer restaurant. What was surprising, though, was the unexpected items like sheep testicles... an addition, one could say, to the usual kidneys and intestines. Outside of these special items, the cucumber salad was not crisp. It was fairly sloppy and limp. The A choy felt basic, smothered with Satay on top. The brown sugar dessert was brought earlier and was hard to eat since the sugar inside leaks everywhere. The other items (pork belly, lamb, beef, and bacon mushrooms were good with the cumin provided. The fried tofu was very salty and not too enjoyable. If the excuse is to drink beer and eat, then this definitely got the job done. Overall, dining here can be enjoyable if you're fluent in Mandarin, but it otherwise felt pretty lacking. My friends and I dined at this restaurant on a Friday evening and it was a great experience. Very different than many other restaurants in the SGV area. We joined the waitlist prior to coming so we didn't have to wait to be seated upon arrival. The inside of the restaurant is nice and cozy, dimly lit with nice visuals playing along the walls. They played a mix of Asian and American music which was fun, and had the music video displayed on the digital pad on each table. Every table has a QR code to scan and order from the menu. The beef, pork and enoki mushroom wrapped in bacon skewer were my favorite items from what we tried. It was really good and flavorful. It's also pretty easy to share amongst friends as they obviously come in separate skewers. The clams were good, though very saucy and had a lot of onions. The sweet and sour fries were a no for me. The fries were super thinly cut and had chunks of sugar around the dish. It just wasn't what I was expecting and I probably will never order it again. The garlic cucumbers were good, a nice palate cleanser in between each dish. The chicken wings were good too, the seasoning were great. We dined in here for a few hours, it was just a great place to order, chat, and hang around. Though after a while, I got a headache because of the projected visuals moving against the walls. I always see this place on Yelp and never been to any skewer place in the 626 so I thought why not try it out. I joined the waitlist on Yelp and it said the wait was going to be 150 minutes even though I was 5th in line which was crazy?? It honestly wasn't that long so it must've been a bug. When my friends and I got there we were so surprised by the exterior. They had a bunch of LED lights all over the storefront. Even at the entrance there were a lot of neon lights and decor on the walls. Walking into the main dining area was insane too. They had projectors showing random videos/scenery on the walls constantly. It was overwhelming but also really fun. Cucumber salad (4/5): A nice and refreshing appetizer. It was garlicky and crunchy. Sweet and sour fries (2/5): I regret getting this. I thought it would've been some fries with a sweet and sour sauce on the side or something. It was really thin shoestring fries drenched in sugar and some sour sauce? Not a fan. Spicy clams (3/5): This was supposed to be 1lb but it was mostly onions and peppers. The clams itself was good. Beef skewers (5/5): These were SOOO good. Perfectly charred and seasoned. We got the mild but honestly should've gotten it spicier. Loved it and we ordered 2 more rounds of this. Lamb skewers (5/5): Very good. Basically tasted like the beef skewers. Not gamey at all. Chicken wings (4/5): These came on skewers too which was cool. Just regular chicken wings. It was good though. Pork belly (3.5/5): I thought these would be thicker and on a skewer but they were thinly sliced. I would've liked it more charred. Enoki mushroom bacon (3/5): These were ok. I ate here a few times before, but the recent experience tonight really left a negative impression on me. We ordered on the website through the QR code, but about 30 minutes later, I noticed on the website our order disappeared and we never received our food. I asked the waiter, and he said there was an error but not to worry about it. Later on, he came to our table and told us to re-order our food. So if I didn't bring up the problem in the first place, nobody would have told us that we had to re order our food because they lost our order. If there was a problem with the order, they should have told us right away. Not wait for us to bring something up after waiting for so long.. This place has a fun vibe. We got there around 8pm on a Thursday night and the wait was 45 minutes. Inside was a bit noisy. The food was excellent and more importantly, the prices were great ! You can get 5 flavorful beef skewers for $5.99. It's a great value. The lamb skewers had similar prices and were delicious too. I also got the cold noodles. The texture of the noodles was hard to chew. It's a plant-based noodle so unless you have had it before and liked it, I wouldn't recommend it. We also got the spicy eggplant. It was super flavorful and very spicy. So watch out for the heat. Service was good. In fact the server gave us some extra cumin to take home because we loved it so much. I can see myself coming back for more beef skewers and other types of skewers such as firm tofu, scallops, white buns and corn. This is the only place that is open in this part of town until past 2am! Everything was delicious and legit for an Asian restaurant with midnight snacks. Had some of the best potato, eggplant, and scallop dish there, the bbq with cumin was also delicious. Lots of neon lights and modular seating. I am not sure if they offer drinks other than water ? Have been wanting to try this place. It's fun, delicious, and open late. The only thing I was confused about was when they bring the skewers to your table and put it on the grill-top, I thought it would cook there. However, apparently they skewers come out cooked already and the cast iron grill top is only to keep them warm? But there are 3 votive candles heating the grill, which is definitely not enough heat to keep the skewers warm, so eat them quickly. So the bad thing is, they let you sing from your table but you only get 1 song per table. The heck? At least allow each person a song. One of my boys introduced me to Xinjiang claiming that this has the best Chinese skewers in SoCal and I wasn't disappointed at all. Xinjiang serves Chinese skewers in a moody setting and is perfect for hangouts and socializing. They cook the skewers for you in the back and you place your order via your own phone. Don't expect much service but the food was amazing! I enjoyed the intestines & chicken skin the most and they went perfectly with the spices. They were tender, decadent, and packed with flavor. I have been here twice and this place is a solid late night and skewer place. There is plenty of parking in the plaza. It can be tad overstimulating with projectors on at all walls. Service is solid with being minimal interaction as you mainly get things from the website which they give you a code. Price wise it is fairly affordable. You do get a cup of boiled peanuts to start off with. Also your dips of cumin seasoning are on the table for you. Remember to check in on Yelp for a free soda. Things to get that I recommend: - beef - lamb - pork belly - garlic eggplant One of the biggest things to skip in my opinion was the lamb soup. The broth and the noodles are seperated. This was my first time going into a restaurant to have skewers and this was a pretty cool experience! This place is very cozy and intimate with the soft couches and music. This place isn't very small so I can see why people could stay here for a long time to just drink. Ordering is super handy, which you can order just everything on your phone. When number one son comes to LA for taking care of business, the first inclination is to stop at one of his favorite Chinese bbq spots in Monterey Park. This time it is XinJiang BBQ. Did I say this place is quaint and really busy with hipsters in the know. He did all the ordering as I really have no clue. The lamb and beef and chicken skewered meats were actually the highlight of our adventure. We also had fried tofu which comes with some sweet sambal dip. The crunchy chicken skin and squid tentacles were least favored but if you take a fried tofu cube and then take a good chunk of the chicken skins, it somehow comes together as a savory and crunchy bite. The lovely missus was not a great fan as we tried several more dishes hoping she would favor one. We did order her the special Chow Mein and Cucumber/Garlic and Enok mushrooms wrapped in bacon. None of these dishes fancied her, but she did like the charred steamed buns. So much more skewered items and I think I can skip that fatty Taiwan sausage. All of the items we ordered come with XinJiang special mix of herbs and sauces and some on the table in powdered form. I am not a real big fan of this type of a midnight snack or even as a dinner option. The spices kept with me throughout the night. Number one son enjoyed all the items that me and the lovely missus left on the candle light warmer on the center of the table. Ambiance wise, the patrons are having a good loud time and we marvel at the surrounded wall projected images. Servers were bringing a carafe of more water as I need to temper my spice intake. We had a great time here! It's located at the end of a small complex. The seating reminds me of a karaoke place with its dark-ish room, large screens and music playing. The seats are really comfortable and it is well spread out. Ordering is through a QR code that leads you to a website where you make your selections. We ordered cucumbers to start, lamb skewers, beef skewers, chicken skin, quail eggs, fish tofu, mushrooms, whole quid and beef roll. It was definitely enough for 2 hungry people and probably could've fed more. The food took a little while to come out but once we got the first hot dish then it was pretty quick. While waiting, we snacked on the cold peanuts boiled in salted water; they were not bad. Note that the skewers came with the same fragrant, cumin-based spice blend. You get 3 other blends to dip them in. - Lotus root. Cooked, but still has a snap. SALTY! - Potato. Oxidized and scary looking, but texturally soft and creamy. Also extremely salty. - Pork belly. Extremely salty, destroyed my taste buds. At this point, I started eating the free peanuts between bites to save my tongue. - Fish cake tofu. The rectangular kind, cut in half. For some reason, everything at this point and beyond was salted normally. This was yummy: hot, juicy, and chewy. - King oyster mushroom. Just meh. Not too salty, but also not cooked enough. They served the tough bottom part of the stems, so mushrooms were not meaty and juicy. - Intestine. I didn't have one, but my friend said it was good. However, he also said that eating just 1 skewer of this was a lot. - Beef. Juicy, beefy, with crispy slivers of fat. My favorite skewer of the night. - Lamb. Just okay.
