Although I consider myself at the very least "knowledgeable" about cuisine, I have to be honest in saying that I have never had the pleasure of trying the specific specialties that this place serves up. For those that are still unfamiliar, Ama chicken rice is a sort of asian fusion place nestled between Redmond Town Center and H-Mart. From my understanding, it is a a Cambodian/Thai take on Hainan Chicken rice, and they also offer a Cambodian noodle soup called Kuy Teav. The simplicity of this menu cannot be overstated, they essentially only serve the 2 things I just mentioned with a few small variations. I always order the Kuy Teav for myself and usually initiate a trade with my friends or family for a piece of their chicken etc. I think the Kuy Teav is at the moment my #1 favorite dish that you can buy in Redmond. The broth is phenomenal, the meat is delicious, and all of their table condiments and sides are phenomenal complements to the dishes they serve. For example they have pickled green garlic cloves, ginger paste, and chili oil all of which find their way into my soup in generous amounts. The service is casual and slightly hands off, the majority of clientele order completely on a QR code ordering hub that can be found on the table, and a food runner brings your food to you. This is convenient for most but just be aware because I have witnessed a hand full of people who can't figure it out. This being said the staff is prompt and courteous, and the owner; named T, is a regular presence in the restaurant. Be sure to shake his hand and say hello. I can't help but be touched that this little family owned joint opened in my hometown, and only a short walk from where I live. It's a refreshing new addition amidst a litany of new places all over the east-side that can be hard to keep track of. Because of its unique quality and masterful focus on only a handful of dishes, it has quickly become one of my favorite places not only in Redmond but my entire community. Went a second time and had to take a star off. Since they just soft opened, seems like they are still working through the kinks, like consistency. If the menu only offers a few items (classic chicken rice, crispy chicken rice, combo chicken rice, and 3 noodle soups), then they really have to deliver on every component of their dishes. My first time, the rice was fabulous--grains separated, flavorful, and I specifically mentioned not MUSHY. But this second time? MUSHY rice. Again, just as they opened after 1100, so you can't say it's because they were packed and needed to rush. So when the rice is not separated, but rather cut-able, there's a problem. Half the dish of chicken rice is well, the rice--something that really can't be discounted. Disclaimer My standard is Nong's Khao Man Gai since this style was the first time I tried there. I was super excited for this place that took over the space for "Dak" and ordered the classic chicken and rice. Ultimately can't say anything good or bad would say it was average but def not worth 18 dollars plus tip. The sauce was similar to Nongs Khao but they gave such a small portion that I used it up with more than 50 percent of my meal left. The highlight was the soup not the chicken or rice! So pleasantly surprised by this place! Saw an IG reel introducing it and everything was as delicious as it looked! Order by QR code, but food came out so fast. Small space but tables turned quickly and our wait was much shorter than the Yelp waitlist time advertised. A lady in front of us recommended the combo with both crispy and classic hainan chicken. The meat was so tender and rice was so flavorful. This was hands down our favorite dish. We also tried the Kuy Teav soup noodle, which if you don't like liver I'd recommend ordering without. The online ordering makes it easy to deselect ingredients you don't want. And lastly we tried the Beef Loc Lac, which was also delicious. Here is our repsonse to restaurant owner Your response to our review said how inconsiderate you are toward tour customers' experience at your restaurant. First of all, we finished the whole bowl does not mean the food was good. We finished it because we don't want to waste food. There are alot of people who don't have anything to put in their mounth. For us, eating bad foods are still better than going hungry. We also paid for our foods. With that being said, we ate the noodles but only two of us ate most of it. You know how we were able to eat most of it? we added alot of hot sauce. 2 of us couldnt. About service, we scanned the wrong QR code is our fault for not knowing it ties to the table number. After we pressed submit, less than 20 seconds, we notified your server. We asked him to cancel it so we can reorder. He didn't know how to do that so he asked the table with that QR code what they ordered instead. I called his attention 3 times, he completely ignored me until the gal from the kitchen came out and we talked to her. Then your server came over immediately and asked us "WHAT DO YOU NEED?" I put it in all caps so you know he was like yelling at us for talking to the gal. This happened multiple times during such short time we were there. We asked him for lectuce becasue the pictures on your menu show there is lecture. He said we dont have lectuce. If you dont have lectuce, you need to update your menu. We also asked him, 1 order supposed to have additional pork heart. It had no pork heart. We had to repeat ourselves more than 5 times. He still didnt understand. As soon as we said we want pork heart. He asked "you don't want pork heart?" All orders supposed to come with liver, none of them had liver. If adding pork heart that confusing, then perhaps more practice of taking orders with modifications is needed. With a negative review, you should respond with a positive repsonse. Negative feedback helps you to improve and welcome customers back to try your foods again. Not only us but your future customers as well. Your response seems to blame your customers instead. Your business need customers. We, customers don't need to come back to yours. There are alot of restaurants offer superior quality foods and service. You are still in your soft opening stage and this is how you respond to your customers? It's sad! This is the first time, we gave a restaurant a 2 star for food quality and service. I came here for lunch with my dad for the kuy teav. We arrived 5 mins. Before opening and there was a line. It was weird they were already serving a family in the restaurant but the door was locked. Finally a few mins. Past 11 you can see one of the employee telling another to open the door. The place filled up quickly and lots of people coming and going. The menu is small and they were all out of the ice coffee or Thai tea ;( The noodles - It was delicious! My dad and I both commented that it was like being back in Cambodia. Was excited to find out that their main classic chicken rice as well as their soup was gluten free. It's hard to find easy Asian food when it comes to gluten free, so I was delighted. The sweet and sour sauce that comes with the chicken was also gluten free (but not the other brown sauce). The service was extremely fast, basically came out as soon as we ordered as well as giving us waters quickly. They were also very accommodating with giving us extra seats for people who joined late as well as high chairs. They gave us kids cups for water and kids plastic plates for our kids which was really helpful. The kids weren't super enthusiastic about eating but I think that was just them and not the food.
