Been coming here for about 20 years. Fantastic sushi and food. Little tough if you don't speak the language although there is an English menu. Friendly service that may come across as gruff if you don't speak the language. High quality food. Highly recommend.

The food was delicious! We started with the Hue deup bap, then got a sushi combo and ended with a mild fish soup. Friendly service! Would recommend and definitely come back!

It's a comfortable place to go and eat. The flavors weren't anything particularly special, but the sashimi was fresh. Overall, the food was a bit on the bland side.

Dining at Awon Japanese Restaurant was a delightful experience from start to finish. The food was exceptional, the staff attentive, and the ambiance was perfect for a cozy evening. Highly recommend! We enjoyed everything about our visit to AWON Restaurant! Definitely try their Sushi & Sashimi but if you're not a sushi lover, there's lots of other menu to choose from.

Awon is a lowkey Korean-Japanese restaurant in LA Ktown!! Their sushi/sashimi are super fresh! And they have signature Hwe Dup Bap (poke+bibimbap)! We ordered - Hwe Dup Bap / Hwae Dup Bap ( raw fish bibimbap ) - A won special ( sashimi, sushi, egg bowl, tempera set ) - Assorted sashimi bowl ( so fresh!!) - Tiger roll - Rainbow roll They have 2 locations in LA: 913 Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90006 3680 Wilshire Blvd Suite 201, Los Angeles, CA 90010

Have you ever had Korean-style sushi & sashimi? A-Won is a lowkey sushi joint serving up some fresh, quality fish. We were impressed by the presentation, the portions, and the taste Standouts include their tuna, salmon, & squid nigiri, as well as their Hwe Dup Bap, which we've never tried before! Everything we ordered --Hwe Dup Bap (raw fish bibimbap) --A Won Special (sashimi, sushi, fish eggs bowl, tempura) --Caterpillar Roll --Boston Roll

This was my first time ever having Korean-Japanese seafood and I was really impressed. If you like poké and bibimbap, I think this is a great place to check out. It seems like a more low key, if you know, you know restaurant that's frequented more by the locals. I got the Al Bap (fish egg bowl) and the Hwe Dup Bap (fresh fish bibimbap). I personally liked the Al Bap more because of all the different textures from the fish eggs, seaweed, radish and crab meat, and also how much sesame oil they used. Definitely would get this one again. The Hwe Dup Bap was good too, but I think it had too much sliced lettuce acting as fillers when comparing to the amount of fish and rice that's given. The fish and lettuce were very fresh though, and so were all the other ingredients.

Wow very big sea urchins yay I only had the urchins here but they were very fresh and dry Probably biggest ones I've seen for the price

This place has a unique food choice on Japanese cuisine in a Korean style. I tried the best seller large sashimi salad which was quite a Korean food. It has a lot of salad leaves and some sashimi. Then it's to be mixed with rice and gochujang sauce. It's fresh and quite good. The bento and eel rice are pretty good too. The food is pretty fusion though, not very Japanese. Parking is valet only, $3 if I remember correctly.

Unagi bowl

They have lunch menu even for weekend which offers better prices for their foods. We ordered a unagi bowl, udon, and awon assorted fish soup which is served with a bowl of rice. Unagi bowl: a good portion with enough unagi and rice. Pretty good Udon: not too special. Just a typical udon Assorted fish soup: also a good portion and flavorful The service was really good. We asked for more broth or hot water for the assorted fish soup and my grandmother thought it was a little too spicy and they were kind enough to recook it for her The parking is valet parking.

chirashi bowl
Rachel K.

My go to at a Japanese restaurant is a chirashi bowl so I had to try it here. The portion seemed pretty big when the food came out, but I was surprised that I was able to finish everything. The fish seemed fresh in my bowl, as well as in the sushi combos that everyone else ordered. The only option is to pay for valet in the parking lot.

Love from my favorite family/chef SKY the best most creative chef I ever visit wherever he goes.

The vibe is awesome inside; there's lofi playing at a nice level and the lighting is beautiful. It feels like an elevated experience right when you walk in. We didn't wait long as it was a Sunday afternoon, and our waitress was so helpful in deciding what to order (the menu is extensive!). We got the baked scallop roll, the crunch spider roll, and the Baja California roll. All three were amazing!!!! We also got spicy tuna crispy rice and the gyoza to start. I am not joking when I say they were the best restaurant gyoza I've had in Los Angeles. Juicy, warm, nice golden crisp on the bottom, and flavorful filling. The baked scallop roll was my personal favorite of the three; it was warm and savory, with an excellent bite from the juicy scallops. It was a great contrast to the Baja roll, which is cold and has crunchy elements to it. And the spider roll was one I didn't expect to like (my boyfriend wanted it), but ended up being my second favorite! The soft shell crab flavor is deliciously salty and pairs great with the surrounding flavors. I'll definitely be back for more!

We ordered the mala rose tteokbokki and the popular yubus. The yubus are good but for me the mala rose tteokbokki is what makes me come back. It's perfectly creamy and the mala flavor comes through without over powering the dish. The numbing spice isn't too strong either which I prefer. It took a while to get the food since it was so busy but the food turned out great so it was worth the wait. I'd rather have them take their time so that each dish comes out perfect rather than them rush the process and deliver a mid dish. I think about the mala rose tteokbokkk every month and would visit more often if I wasn't so far!

The salmon was a bit on the fishy side for me, and I wouldn't get it again. The spicy Mala beef belly, though, was excellent and had my mouth on fire, and I would definitely get it again. My FIL had the unagi avocado and liked it. The star of the show for me, however, was the rose topokki. It was a touch spicy but oh so flavorful! The fish cake and cabbage gave the sauce a complex flavor and kept me coming back for more. Next time I want to give the mala rose topokki a try.

Was sat immediately and served water. They have a pretty extensive menu of most things you'd find at a sushi cut roll spot. We ended up ordering the toro garlic toast, veggie tempura, ginza roll, and several pieces of nigiri sushi. The toro garlic toast was pretty good - sort of like a spicy tuna crispy rice situation ... but a little fattier and more garlicky than crispy. The ginza roll was pretty good too - a lot of fish in the roll and wasn't overwhelming with too much sauce. The tempura was good too- not super oily and all your typical veg involved. The nigiri sushi were pretty well prepared. The size was pretty good for the price - and each were accompanied by a small garnish on top or a little bit of sauce brushed on. All in all - I wouldn't say it's a date night place, but is a good easy eats sushi spot for rolls and nigiri for the price. Would recommend!

It's one of the healthier options in the area, the staff is always incredibly polite, and the food is consistently fresh. I usually order a spicy tuna roll along with a few other rolls, but I've also had the fried rice and crispy rice, and they've all been excellent. I did have one small incident where I bit into a tuna scale that had made its way into my spicy tuna roll. It definitely caught me off guard, but honestly, it wasn't a dealbreaker. If anything, it reminded me that they're working with fresh fish. I let the staff know just so they were aware, and without me asking, they removed the roll from my bill. That level of customer service was genuinely appreciated. The restaurant is always clean, welcoming, and a place I look forward to visiting on my lunch breaks. As I'm writing this, I'm actually getting hungry thinking about my next visit. Thank you to the entire team for the great food and even better hospitality. I'll definitely be back.
