    Khao Soi

Came by Baan Yaai for dinner on a weekday and had no problem getting seated. The restaurant itself is well-decorated and offers nice counter seating at the window where you can people watch as you tuck into some comforting Thai street food. recs: khao soi price: ~$15/person - Khao Soi: Such a generous portion for the price -- this is easily shareable between two people! The curry soup leans on the thicker side and is very well-seasoned, so it was nice to have some roti on the side to cut the flavor with. This came with a large bundle of fried noodles on top, which tasted so good with the soup. Comes with extra chili and a lime. - Roti: This was surprisingly flaky, almost like a puff pastry. Tasted good dipped in the red curry sauce on the side. Service was phenomenal -- the waiter came by multiple times to check in on us and refilled our water.

Really cozy and underrated spot in the Marina. I've come a few times to Baan Yaai, often on a weeknight evening post-workout with a friend, and I've always enjoyed my meals here. It's usually not super busy and often there's a family or big group dining in. Green curry here is solid, but the Pad Kee Mao is quite good -- would definitely get that again. Omurice was also surprisingly creamy and delicious. The inside doesn't have a ton of seating but the service is friendly and appreciate a good Thai place in the Marina.

Ordered for pickup and ordered pad thai with chicken and the thai style omurice (first time seeing this on a menu in SF so i was super curious!) The pad thai came with a few pieces of tofu and chicken which confused us, and it also was mostly noodles. I would've liked to see more protein. But the serving itself was huge so we saved the leftover noodles for another meal. I liked the crab fried rice -- it had a good amount of crab, but the eggs were not soft scrambled as advertised. Still pretty tasty and the rice was delicious under! And it was also a large serving. The inside looked cute and intimate for dining in -- cozy seating inside and very lively on a weekday evening.

We easily got a table for 7 on a Saturday around 7pm! Service is fast and friendly. Cute decorations! I loved the coconut ice cream and mango sticky rice desserts! Not too sweet, very creamy, and flavorful.

Green curry - this was a standout dish. Most flavorful green curry I've ever had. Full of veggies and lots of meat too. This is the real deal Roti - this was a letdown. Very greasy, not flaky. Just mushy interior. Papaya salad and pad kee mao were both tasty! The papaya salad was served with a bunch of raw cabbage on the side which was odd though - not very tasty.

Was struggling to find some good Tom Kha in Boston and happened to stumble upon this little gem while visiting SF. The soup was rich, flavorful, and came out fast. The Thai tea was also smooth and perfectly sweet. Quick, delicious, and definitely worth coming back for.

Classic, delicious thai food in a very cutely decorated setting. It's a little bit hard to fit big parties here, but we were able to sit at tables next to each other. Service was quick and helpful!

I've been here before & it was good but was a little disappointed with my last visit. It could be because I came later in the day closer to closing time but the noodles weren't very hot and tasted a little stale or like they had been left out for a bit. The service was very friendly though so I appreciate that and they were polite about us being there an hour before closing. Two of my friends got the chicken noodle soup because it was a cold day and they finished all of it so that was probably worth trying! Ambiance is great and not too loud. Nice smaller restaurant to catch up with friends.

Cute little 'street food' thai joint owned and operated by a mother/daughter combo. Flavors were authentic -- and the hot sour soup delish! the decor strives to take you to a warm evening in thailand with little table and stool seating by a busy street; definitely a unique add to lombard.

Stopped by on a Friday night for some Thai food. Lombard street can be busy so we were lucky we got seated here without a wait. It wasn't too busy around the time we went (around 7pm). We got the pad thai, tom yum soup, and the sweet roti. We've tried roti before but not a sweetened version, so we were pleasantly surprised by this dish. The tom yum soup was flavorful and tangy. We got it with rice on the side too. Finally, the pad thai was fantastic. The portion sizes for all of the dishes were pretty big for the price. Overall, a great spot for some thai food at a good price.

Tom yum soup was a bit too much of tomato flavor instead of the lemongrass fragrant taste. Pad See Ew is Drunken Noodles and was adorned. They didn't use Asian broccoli but regular broccoli for this dish, otherwise, it would have been above notch. One has to ask for their spicy peppers and it complemented well with this dish along with other dishes. Green Curry was yum! Pineapple fried rice was spot on. Casual hole in the wall kind of spot with waitress service and the decor is hipster meets Thai. Great grab if one is craving Thai around here.

They text you when your table is ready and got have about 5 minutes to get there. Right away I knew I wanted the Khao soi which I got with tofu. This was beyond delicious, but I wish they have more broth. I've had Khao soi before but it was a bit more broth which made the noodles less dry. Also I wish the tofu was cut into smaller cubes, the tofu wasn't very crispy which made it pretty bland and one dimensional. Other than that it was very good. The Thai tea was also good, not too sweet which was perfect. The duck breast curry had a similar taste to the Khao soi but the duck was one of the beast we had. Super moist and flavorful in the broth, definitely one of the best dishes of the night. Also the beef fried rice (Khao pad mun neur) was cooked well, my favorite was the flavor of the fried rice. Had a smoky wok flavor to it which made it addicting. The ambience was very nice my favorite was their music playlist. Was nostalgic and gave good vibes in the restaurant. Definitely a great experience and worth a try when in the city. I would come again for the duck curry and maybe the Khao soi with a different protein or ask the tofu to be extra crispy.

We ordered the same short rib beef fried rice but tried the curry chicken noodle soup this time which had a crispy fried ball of noodles topping a bowl of mild, spicy curry broth, soft noodles and chicken. It was very good. For the first time, we ordered their Chinese broccoli which was sliced into smaller pieces and surprisingly very good. We were full but decided to get the pandan kaya toast with large scoop of coconut ice cream to share since we've not ordered this in a long time. The chefs cooking that evening were doing a great job as the flavors were delicious.

Every bite and sip was delicious. We ordered family style and shared everything. The service was also fantastic, even though we got there late and didn't realize until the food was beginning to come out that it was last call, our server and all the other workers that came by were all so friendly and made us feel welcome. We ate quickly and boxed the rest so they could get home. What we ordered: Tom Kha soup - coconutty, creamy, a lil sour and a lil spice. Delicious. Fresh rolls - crisp and springy with lots of greens and tofu and a good peanut sauce to dip. Crispy pork belly sweet basil - the CRISP and flavor of this pork belly was to die for. Chicken larb - this was my favorite dish of the night. Heavy basil/herbs, just a little kick from the chilies, full on flavor explosion. I will be thinking of this dish for a long time haha. Beef Pad See Ew - chewy in the most delicious and favor packed way. Love pad see ew and this one was great! Pad cha scallop - Came out sizzling on a cast iron! This dish was fun and the scallops while small, were fresh and had lots of flavor. And finally, for dessert we ordered the black rice durian. It was all three of us' first time trying Durian and we loved it! Creamy and a little funky but the black rice and sauce emphasized its natural sweetness. The interior is well decorated with Thai culture and with the darker tones of the design, it makes the restaurant feel quite fancy. 4.5/5 - Crispy Pork (Moo Krop) Fried Rice - Very savory fried rice dish. Spiced well and very filling. We didn't expect the pork to be cut so large and mixed into the rice, but it was very tender and easy to still eat. We would've expected the pork to be sliced maybe in half or fourths to make the dish feel like a "pork fried rice" than a fried rice + pork mix, but it still worked well and if you love pork, this will definitely be your fix! 5/5 - Pad Thai - We thought the restaurant nailed this classic noodle dish. Filling portions and did not overcook their noodles. You can taste each component of the dish, which speaks to everything not being under or overcooked.
