We stopped by since I saw that this place had Thai street food and outdoor dining and it did not disappoint. The parklet is super cute and conveniently located in an alleyway next to the restaurant, so you're shielded from the street and pedestrian traffic on Lombard. We didn't have reservations and were able to get a table no issue. We started with the Roti Canai and the roti was super crispy and airy, and paired well with the curry dipping sauce. For mains we had the Crab Omurice and Yaai's Pad Thai. Both were delicious, but our favorite of the two was definitely the Yaai's Pad Thai, since it had a great crab flavor and was wrapped in a fluffy egg omelet. One of the best Thai options in SF, and a staple of my take out rotation. The curry's are excellent and the noodles are all well balanced. I particularly love the pumpkin curry (try it!) I do think they should include rice with curries as this feels a little cheap, and the spring roll portion is very disappointing for the price point. Everything we ordered was fantastic, but the star of the show was Yaai's Phad Thai. Some of the best Phad Thai I've ever had! The addition of the Thai style omelette was something I'd never had (but will most definitely have again). Papaya salad was refreshing and brought a nice amount of heat. Chicken satay had a nice char from the grill and peanut sauce was delicious. Pad Kee Mow with beef was good, but could have had a bit more heat. I couldn't count how many times I ordered this item from this restaurant( basically every week) They made a very unique flavor which you can't find in any other Thai Restaurant in the Bay. I was pleasantly surprised that there's a new Thai restaurant opened up in the Marina. By looking at the menu you will see that they serve some special Thai dishes that we can't find in other Thai restaurant usually. I tried their Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noddle), and it was delicious!  It is spicy so if you don't eat spicy food I'd recommend the Pad See Ew. This place doesn't offer outdoor dining so we ended up eating in our car. We got two dishes the Thai Style Crab Omurice and Massaman Curry. Thai Style Crab Omurice 4/5 ($21.99) They don't cheap you out on the crab pieces so that's good, but the portion was small and a little bland. This is my first time trying omurice so I wasn't sure what to expect. There wasn't much flavor and kind of oily, but overall still very delicious. The sauce reminded me of Vietnamese fish sauce. The Massaman curry 4.5/5 ($15.99) is not on the menu from what I remember, we ordered since it was on the lunch special. The owner was really kind and asked if we wanted to sample the curry before buying it since I have tried or even heard of it. I personally thought the curry was quite sweet, and maybe that's what it is supposed to taste like. It pairs nicely with rice and the chicken was good. read more

Wow, this food was terrible. The one star is just for the friendly people working there (which strangely seems to be the only thing other people complain about). I have had tons of Thai food from tons of Thai restaurants, but this was by far the worst I've ever had. Everyone in my family was confused by how bad it was. We had pineapple fried rice, chicken wings (which still had wing claws attached!), Pumpkin tofu curry, and another totally forgetable tofu dish. Even the appetizers were bad - money bags and something else I can't remember right now. There was a very pungent fish sauce on most everything. On top of the food being terrible, it was inexplicably expensive. We paid $150 for dinner for 3. Sure, we would have had leftovers, but it was so bad we just threw it all away. What a waste. I will allow that we might just not like this style of Thai, or that it was one off night, but after that experience, definitely not going back again to find out. read more

So my friends and I went to Baan Yaai because we were craving Thai food. They have just recently opened and we wanted to check them out. Don't let it's quaint and unassuming façade fool you, great eats are to be had here. So here's the scoop: Baan Yaai's menu is designed to cater to Thai street food, giving a twist to some of your more commonly known Thai food fanfare. This innovative take allows for some of the most creative fusion dishes I've seen and eaten in a while. For starters, I recommend the Roti Canai. It is Thai flat bread fried to crispy perfection which holds up and compliments the unctuous yellow curry dipping sauce. It's a shame I forgot to take a pic but I was too busy fending off my friends so I can get some Roti for myself. Another must try dish is the Chicken wings, whose name does not do justice to the feeding frenzy it caused between me and my friends. It's crispy, sweet, and salty. But the real kicker is the sourness that just makes your food mojo go haywire. We also ordered the papaya salad so I can feel healthy and good about eating the rest of my meal. Make no mistake! This salad is no runt of the liter. It's fresh, snaps to the bite, and acidic in a way that makes you unconsciously gulp as it whets you appetite. Finally, I ordered my main dish: the Thai style Crab Omurice. Like a siren song, it called to me before it reached the table. One word: Heaven! The warm steam from the omelet, the herby notes of green onions and cilantro, the salty pillows of soft crab meat, the umami you can only get from expertly layering flavor profiles, and the heavenly bliss of going in for the next spoonful until it's all gone. I'm not sure if I'll bring my rowdy friends next time I come. But, one thing is for sure, I'll be back for my yum yums sooner than later! read more

Came in a group of 7. Very cute small place. It can be a wait depending on what you order but it's worth it. Don't let the names of the appetizers fool you. My favorite of the three we tried was The Fish. It was crispy with a good sauce. Tried the Yaai's Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao and Pad See Ew. I liked their thai tea although it was very sweet but I normally don't drink thai tea. The food was good and their portions are pretty big. You had to have your vaccine card to eat inside. This was my first time here and they do have outdoor dining which was great and we really liked it. Customer service was excellent and the food was delicious! We ordered Lunch special mussamun curry, Roti Canai, and Pad Kra Tiem with Pork. We loved all of them (I took a picture only one dish because we were starving and forgot to take the rest) I LOVE the curry sauce that comes with roti. This place was honestly excellent! A slight hole in the wall, and if you're in the west Lombard area, I highly recommend this place. Thai food in general has a great palette but this restaurant adds more to the flavors and textures that you'd normally expect.
