STEPH JUDGEMENT: Charming Peruvian outpost on the West side with some great vegetarian options. We happened to be across the street waiting for our order at Vegan Castle and spotted this place. I'd actually read about them in the LB Post and had wanted to visit but never really looked up exactly where they were. The hubby and I took a look around and were intrigued by the homey decor and the vegan/vegetarian options they had on the menu. I got a flan to go, and we decided to come back for dinner another time (the flan was excellent, btw). A couple of months later we came back for dinner on a weeknight. It wasn't very crowded and we were able to get a table right away. We decided to share the Tofu Saltado and the Tallerines Verdes. The tofu saltado was absolutely delicious, with perfectly tender, seasoned tofu cubes and fries covered in a gravy-like sauce with a scoop of rice. The Tallerines Verdes was very rich and creamy, with great flavor. They gave us two cute little complimentary bread rolls with our meal, which went fast. I was waffling on whether to get dessert since our meal was pretty decadent, but I couldn't resist their flan. It's so dense and silky, with that wonderful caramel sauce--I do believe it could be my most favorite flan ever! OTM Club recently started expanding their partnerships in the South Bay/Long Beach... the week had just started & Casa Chaskis offering was already out. =( Then towards the end of the week, the CHAUFA DE POLLO (Peruvian fried rice with chicken) was available again. =) I didn't realize how close they were... Waze gave me a 13-min. drive :-O so I had to redeem this full sized entree. I called en route, & said I'm redeeming for OTM Club & added the POLLO SALTADO (chicken sauteed with onions, tomatoes, & fries, steamed rice), one of my Peruvian favs; my order should be ready in 15-mins. Payment was fast & easy, & I was on & out in a few minutes. About half way home, I realized I forgot to ask if I could get some AJI VERDE. I love this green salsa for some added flavor & mild heat; it consists mainly of cilantro, aji amarillo, huacatay. Peruvian food is quite pungent (in a good way) so I was intoxicated by its fumes wafting from the trunk, & I was hangry by the time I got home. The bag felt heavy & the portions were decent. I was happy to find 2 small containers of aji verde. =D I gave the kids the fried rice while my husband & I split what's left with the pollo saltado. Normally I love this stir-fry but it was heavy handed on the salt & I needed the rice accompaniment to eat the chicken & veggies. It was also too saucy because the fries were no longer crisp but soggy. If you can ignore the saltiness, the flavor is otherwise spot on. The curated/freebie fried rice was the better dish with a good ratio of chicken:rice, though I found some of the chicken to be on the drier side. My kids were quick to finish this dish since it's similar to Chinese-style chicken fried rice. I added aji verde to the fried rice for a mild chili kick... I need more of this awesome green stuff! I love the homey Peruvian decor & the other touches that separates them from a more familiar franchise (EPI). Their condensed menu concentrates on the classics/favs... but the execution needs to be tightened to be added on our regular takeout rotation; Casa Chaskis is a solid 3.5-stars with room for improvement. Servers are polite & detailed-oriented; they double-checked to make sure my order is complete with utensils & napkins, & of course, the more important aji verde. We're likely to be back to check out their other classics, but it remains to be seen if they're on our takeout rotation. Doesn't look like much when driving by but HOLY CRAP this place is so good and reasonably priced! My boyfriend and I have actually eaten here a handful of times but I didn't want to leave a review because I wanted to keep this place all to ourselves lol The staff are all very friendly, have always provided amazing customer service towards us, and respond in a reasonable time frame when we have any requests. The restaurant itself is home-like, the patio on a cool breezy day is the perfect spot to eat in my opinion. The food is 10/10. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal coming here. My favorite part would have to be the drinks! They serve your drinks in a large mason jar and by the time you finish your meal and transfer your drink in a to-go cup.. you literally have a full drink at hand! Looking for a real Peruvian meal with a low-key vibe? Casa Chaskis is off the beaten path on the West-side, so you will find plenty of street parking! They even have a parking lot in the back. Their outdoor patio is more spacious and open than their humble indoor dining area, which is currently closed for patrons anyway. I've been here a couple times now and have not been disappointed with any of the dishes I've tried thus far. Yucca a la Huancaina ($7) Lightly fried, thick pieces of yucca to dip in their creamy, fresh cheese dip with a kick of garlic and Peruvian pepper. This makes a great snack I could eat everyday! Empanada de Carne ($3 each) Warm, flaky crust and seasoned meat filling. Nothing out of the ordinary, but not bad either. Ceviche Mixto ($15) Love how they mix zesty, marinated fish, squid, shrimp and mussels with sweet potato, purple onion, boiled and roasted choclo (large Peruvian corn). So refreshing and light! I'm not used to eating ceviche without tostada or tortilla chips, but the potato and choclo served to complement the seafood. Lomo Saltado ($14) Much like what you would expect of fries, bite-sized steak (back of the cow, well-done), onion and tomatoes sautéed in a garlicky, vinegary, soy sauce seasoned marinade with a scoop of white rice. I like how generous they are with the addictive sauce and how it gets absorbed into all the ingredients here. Tallarín Saltado Marisco ($17) Spicier than the Lomo Saltado marinade, this dish filled our carb craving with pasta. There was more calamari than fish, clams and mussels, but I was okay with that. Arroz con Mariscos Norteño ($18) I had this during my first visit, so I will have a hard time describing it, but I remember loving it! I recall some unique spices were used to marry the seafood with the rice the way saffron does with paella. I'm pretty sure garlic, salt, peppers, cilantro and maybe parsley were involved. Guess I'll have to get it again to refresh my memory! They serve traditional Peruvian beverages like Inka Cola, chicha morada, as well as sweetened and unsweetened iced teas. The maracuja (passion fruit) drink tasted fresh, but may have had a tad too much sugar added. The chicha morada I had was really good with a hint of cinnamon and not too sweet at all. No refills, but they serve them in large mason jars. Too bad they don't have beer or wine though! I really appreciate how eco-friendly they are by banning plastic straws, utensils, styrofoam, harsh chemicals, and plastic bags too! Love that they are located pretty close to my house and I truly hope they can survive this pandemic! One of my favorite Peruvian restaurants. Authentic and taste worthy, I am sure you wont be disappointed. I highly suggest starting off with the best drinks ever.. That aji Verde sauce with the bread.... Never had anything like it. Spicy and so tasty.....wanted to put it on everything. The shrimp saltado had better flavor then the lomo saltado. The meat wasn't as tender or flavorful. Also the mixed fried rice. Was hoping for a Peruvian twist with their flavors but instead it was really a Chinese style fried rice. It was one of the better flavored fried rices that I've had and would have to say now my second favorite and will be the go to place when craving this since the first go to place for fried rice is in Altadena ...so a lot closer for sure. After the agreement and putting down a deposit to reserve the spot for my daughters 6th birthday we had lunch and I've gotta say, food here is delicious. I've tried Pollo Inca and 2 other hole in the walls which usually are the best but Casa Chaskis flavor is better. Where do I even start, this place is so so good! They have the best lomo saltado and chamoyladas! They even have their own garden and they use the veggies they grow in their dishes. The service is always spectacular and the server Carlos has always been accommodating and attentive. The restaurant itself has indoor and outdoor seating and it gives off very nice and homey vibes. We stopped here hungry after a day full of play in the Long Beach area. Easy to locate using Yelp directions in map. Thank you Yelp. Parking in rear, it's a bit tight If you're driving an suv or big truck and if there are other cars in the lot but convenient nonetheless. We were promptly seated, we had a choice of outside seating or indoors. We wanted to stay out of the sun so we opted for indoors. Colorful Peruvian decorations and the Peruvian "huaynos" playing in the background made me feel nostalgic and ready to eat some authentic Peruvian food. We ordered the Peruvian staples: Lomo saltado, ceviche and yuca a la huancaina. All three were killers. Nice flavors on the lomo and the meat was juicy and tender. The ceviche and the yuca were appetizer portions but the flavors were authentic. The green "salsa de guacatay" placed on the table was a perfect spicy complimentary flavor to the cheesy huancaina one. Mix them and your palate will be in heaven. We also ordered pollo a lo pobre. Rice, fried yuca, fried plantain Yumm, a nice sized chicken breast cooked perfectly so it wasn't dried up and topped with an egg. This dish is generously served. The fried fish was served in a bed of rice and a side of lemony onions that brought the flavors together. The fish was so good, we asked for a side order of another fish fillet. Every dish was perfectly seasoned and you are brought some warm bread while you wait. The drinks were amazing. They are brought in a mason jar , we asked for to go cups at the end and they filled a large to go cup even though we had consumed half of it already. Desserts: holy crap. They were mouth watering. Crema volteada Is basically a creamier and better than flan, sweet goodness. Alfajores and bite size cookies filled with manjar blanco and the lucuma ice cream is a creamy and maple flavored Peruvian ice cream. Good food Good service Fair pricing. My grandma is from Lima, Peru so naturally I love to try new Peruvian restaurants but THIS PLACE is very special and it's my favorite. The food is amazing! The ají verde sauce is excellent. The Saltado had a sauce on the bottom that is so different than what I've tried before and just delicious. I really really appreciated that this dish wasn't overwhelmed with onions and tomatoes. It was perfect. I was hesitant to try the Tallarin Verde because I didn't like it before at other restaurants but this one was amazing! I really like that they have Peruvian drinks too. The Chicha Morada is my favorite and everyone else's too apparently because the owner told me they usually sell out quick. I love the hint of cinnamon in it. The Maracuya is very good too. I usually call ahead of time and they give me the time it will be ready and it's always hot and ready when I get there. All of the staff are really nice! Can't wait to see what I try next! read more

I don't know what type of magic they cook these beans in but they were one of the most flavorful beans I have ever had. Stopped in for dinner and we were extremely pleased with our meals. Started with beef empanadas, seasoned and fried to perfection. Next came their calamari. Yay! Tentacles are my favorite. Their batter was light and the seasoned with lime juice. They make their own tarter/dipping sauce but it wasn't even needed. I had the lomo saltado and loved every bite. The portion was huge. I might make two more meals out of my leftovers. My hubby had the bistec a lo pobre. His was a gently seasoned piece of carne accompanied with fries, two fried (to perfection) eggs (sunny side up), rice, and some plantains. This place looked so appetizing from a video I came across on Instagram, so we drove to Long Beach for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. A little hole in the wall that gives you an authentic Peruvian feel once you get to their back patio for dine in. They open at noon & when we got there around 1:30, they were already sold out of their famous empanadas so goes to show this place may just be THAT good? I guess we just had to taste it for ourselves lol Besides my delicious & refreshing passion fruit iced tea, we ordered 2 of their popular dishes: lomo saltado & Tallarin Verde con bistec. Their lomo saltado was cooked/seasoned well & their fries were crisp enough for a perfect textural contrast. With the tallarin verde con bistec, the first bite of my pasta was satisfying with the pasta cooked nicely & the sauce being creamy but they were just a tad bit heavy handed with the salt for my liking. When I tried to cut a piece of my bistec, it was impossible. It was so hard to cut & even harder to bite. I asked for a knife that may be able to cut it better than a butter knife TWICE & the woman serving us always seemed to come out with something else for other tables except ours. Even asking for a to go box & the check took multiple requests that we eventually decided to just walk up to the cashier to ask for them. I definitely feel like it's an overhyped location to have 4.5 stars & their service was just horrible & frustrating. read more
