Real cheap and fast Chinese food. Quality is OK..Not so good, not too bad..But I live in the E, so I'm not gonna ask for much. Pretty clean interior which is always a plus at a Chinese restaurant. Some of the dishes that stick out are: honey walnut prawns (b/c you can't mess it up!), beef stew in claypot, and shrimp and scrambled eggs. Always sure to fill you up, but as far as making you happy, ehh.. One more thing, I wish they wouldn't put that darn cat in the kitchen area. after our utterly disappointing, frustrating and overall nightmarish experience at medjool only chef hunan's could assuage us. every aspect of our first meal there was pleasant and enormously appreciated. our meal for two consisting of mongolian chicken, shrimp fried rice and sauteed chinese brocolli was $18. we had leftovers for lunch the next day also. this being said, one can probably assume that the decor and ambiance were not the most impressive, but peeking in, you will know its ghetto fab. more importantly, its clean, (both the restaurant and the food, no gross MSG aftertaste). the dishes were tasty, perfectly cooked, fresh and plentiful. also, the waitress was unbelievably kind. she was helpful with recommendations after they didnt have the braised duck we wanted. she even wrote a little message for us on our check. the only negative thing i have to say is about the restroom. i feel like you can tell the quality of a place by its restroom. if they have good soap, towels and toilet paper, they dont buy cheap ingredients. if its immaculate, so is the kitchen. this place has piss all over the toilet seat. its not their fault if people dribble though... read more

Had a strange experience but most people seem to like their service so it may have been a strange night for them. The sign says they close at 9:30pm. I placed my order at 8:00pm and showed up half an hour later to pick it up. I was very weirded out to see that they had the deadbolt locked on the door even though there were still a few customers eating inside. I had to stand sheepishly outside knocking until a lady came to the door, and she made me recite my full pickup order before she'd let me in. On my way out after paying she had to bring her huge keyring over to let me back out, and she actually jabbed her finger at someone's face who was trying to come in. I don't know what the deal was, everyone just seemed battle-weary as if they'd been hoarding off an army of hungry undead zombies all night. Very Walking Dead-esque. I left feeling unsettled but hey.. at least I had my chicken wings. read more

This place is one of the cleanest hole in the wall place that I've been to so far. Chef Hunan has been around since back in the days. My family and I used to eat here way back when... I haven't eaten inside the restaurant in years but it always seemed clean whenever I go and pick up our order. My brother ordered food to go last night and it reminded me that they still have one of the best perfectly cooked broccolis, I can't say anything about the beef cause I never eat the beef in this dish. Most Chinese places that I do go to always ends up over/under cooking their broccolis. What I did have was their crispy chicken and black pepper pork. Both dish were pretty tasty, chicken was nice and crispy on the outside and quite moist in the inside and the black pepper pork turned out yummy. One day I was totally starving and getting an oil change right across the street. I than began to venture past a couple of spots down mission than decide to give this Chinese spot a try. Although it was such an inconvenience that they didn't accept debit/credit card, the quality and price for my meal was so worth it. Another bargain lunch place in the outer mission Excelsior. I head here for lunch sometimes when doing my laundry across the street near Persia. Their downside: ONLY CASH is accepted even if you have an order over $10. Their restaurant is small but has lots of space with lots of small tables & chairs and as another reviewer said, cluttered, loud, not very clean but it's a great place to bring friends and save a whole lot of $$'s on decent American Chinese food. They have lunch specials but they're really just lots of white rice with a specified entree. The drinks aren't very special unless you like soda. A tip: bring your own drinks before you come. I was brought here for lunch by a coworker because it was one of his favorite Chinese places within fairly short drive from the workplace. The decor was good compared to other restaurants I've seen in this area. They do have a menu with reasonably-priced lunch specials with good selection. I ordered the General chicken. It wasn't quite what I imagined it to be, but still it was a good meal. Entrees and soups look quite reasonably-priced also. Since the operators speak Cantonese, that means that on the menu are Cantonese items like won ton noodles, chow mein and such for which more typical Hunan dishes are not known for, which for me is a definite plus. read more

This is a hole in the wall chinese place that is pretty tasty, but more importantly, will give you huge portions for not very much money. The entrees range from 4.75 to 8.25,but most fall into the five dollar range. If you order over $20 worth of food, you get free eggrolls, if you order over $25 dollars you get a free thing of chicken fried rice. If you get confused about what the lady is talking about, she'll give you both for free. The portions are beyond generous and taste about good as one could ask for and you'll definitely have leftovers. They don't deliver though, because the delivery guy quit. First time to this hole in the wall place. First impression, seemed remodeled or new owner, clean and bright, I could see part of the kitchen also looked clean. According to other reviews, the owner renovated this place. Pricing are very reasonable in this type of small restaurants. We had general chicken (5/5), beef chow fun (4/5), sweet corns with cod (4/5) and seafood in pan fried noodle (2/5) (gravy was super light close to tasteless, seafood was weak, very choppy tiny little shrimps,squid,fish). So....I came here another time after my first review of this place (after thinking it was pretty good), ordered another one of the Chicken with Salted Fish Fried Rice. I found out it's not the best since I found pieces of MSG. At first, I thought it was salt....so I kept eating, but soon find my throat acting up maybe 2 hours afterwards? One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood. I wouldn't say they have the most delicious food in the world but the food they serve tastes decent in terms of their affordable cost. You can fill your stomach less than ten dollars. The restaurant is clean. The host, or the staff whatever, is very friendly and smiles to customers all the time though sometimes she is not understandable due to her accent. This is the first review I've ever posted online, a testimony to the fact that this really is the worst food I have ever eaten. We spent $20 and when we saw the massive piles of food, thought we had gotten a great deal. As we prepared our plates, I became curious, as I'd never seen shiny, gloppy Chicken and Mixed Veggies before, nor brown Sweet and Sour Chicken. Still, we were hungry, and had never had a truly bad Chinese experience before, so we weren't too concerned. I grabbed my chopsticks and prepared to chow down. The very first bite of what was represented to be chicken slithered and squirmed down my throat like a slug. The cabbage, which composed almost 75% of the plate, was soggy and heavy with the strange brown sauce, which was about as tasty as a piece of paper. Seriously, the blandest, nastiest thing I've ever put in my mouth. I tried, I really did. I ate the high-school cafeteria eggroll, and some of the rice (even the rice was bad!), but stopped when my stomach started to turn. Something you should understand: I LOVE to eat, and when I've paid for something, I'll eat it even if it doesn't taste good, on priniciple alone. My boyfriend wouldn't even let me try his sweet and sour out of fear I might lose it right there on the couch. We ended up throwing away almost all of the food, and will probably end up throwing up the rest. He asked me how a place with food this terrible could afford to stay open in this economically challenged neighborhood.
