This place was busy and full of locals and tourists but Lethe food was just ok. We started with apple pie, a specialty, but overall disappointing. The apples in the middle were barely cooked. It for better towards the outside but the crust wasn't quite cooked enough either. This theme continued. Has browns were warm but not crispy. The veggies in the veggies scrambled not quite cooked. More steamed than cooked on a griddle. The cheese on my refined beans didn't even melt. We're here for a few days and it's close to our hotel but we won't be going back. read more

This spot is really charming. Most of the seating is around a U-shaped bar in the middle of the diner. The milkshakes were incredible (I had peanut butter, my boyfriend had Oreo) and you can watch the waitresses make them in the area in the middle of the bar. The food is classic diner done right - I had a patty melt, boyfriend had the French dip, and both came with hot and crispy crinkle cut fries. Let's start with a little bragging.....My wife and I are great cooks. Now to the review.....this place is good but it taste like home cooking. When we go out we don't like it to taste like what we can cook at home. But that is our preference. If you are going out and you want it to taste like home but you just don't want to do the dishes.....this place is for you. Clayton's is and old time tradition with me. I try to have breakfast at least once every time I come to Coronado. The place is always busy but the wait is never long. The old time diner is a classic and the food is always good as well as the service. I usually get eggs or pancakes but today I ordered the Huevos Rancheros. ( highly recommended by the waitress ), They were not good, the tortillas were a little hard and the sauce was bland and required seasoning. Guacamole came out brown and in addition to the beans this dish came with hash browns. That should have been my clue. Do not order this item you will be disappointed. For this reason I gave only 3 stars this time. Service very friendly and quick. I will come back and stick to the traditional diner items. read more

I have been here twice and love the atmosphere. I am such a vintage gal and just love the look of the place. The servers weren't on top of it both times I've went so thats why I am giving them a 3 star instead of 5. I understand this is a tourist place but just because you know you may never see me again doesn't mean you should be neglectful to your customers. The turn over rate will be there, yes, however you would have way more repeat business from locals if the staff would kick it up a notch. The tips would be so much better if you tried a little harder. This place is a real popular breakfast place in Coronado, and it's cute old fashioned diner style and a big hit for tourist. I am giving 4 stars because it's just ok for me. It gets crowded and there's usually a wait around lunchtime. There's other good breakfast in Coronado so I'll avoid it if it's busy. Would have given 5 stars if it weren't for the waitress. Good food, the bus boy/runner was nicest person in the place. Very attentive and endearing. Ordering at the window was disjointed, it seemed to take them a few minutes to realize I hadn't ordered yet. NBD, but it could be better. We didn't get a chance to eat in the diner, but frequented the walk up window. Great spot to stop in for coffee and donuts. They also had other diner items available at the wall up window-smoothies, bagels, burritos, biscuits and gravy. Nice to know since there always seems to be a wait for a spot inside. Great service for a small place. We were able to mix and match from the "sides" menu to create our breakfast and keep the price down. They also have a full nreakfast menu. I had bacon cheese grits with sourdough toast. It was a lot of food. THE COFFEE IS GREAT! They get the bean from a local roastery - Cafe Moto. read more

My husband and I stopped by Clayton's for breakfast while we visited Coronado Island. Food was good, although maybe not worth the 20 minute wait for an omelette, hashbrowns, and toast. The price was excellent, less than $20 for my husband and I. The restaurant itself is super cute, has tons of character, and our waitress was really friendly. This place has the best breakfast, and the waitresses are really nice. If I were you I would get a stool at the bar instead of at a table because you will get ignored. Most of the waitresses are at the bar and if you need anything you can get their attention easier. It has a nice 50's diner feel and gives you a lot of food for your money. If you like military guy this is definatly the place to go! More than half the people that I see there when i go in the morning are military. as far as finding an old-school diner, with out pretense, and serving classic american foods, this place is it. the service is fun and friendly, and the ambiance is legit. i avoid this place like the plague on week-end mornings as it is too crowded with tacky tourists. week days are best, when the locals and military guys are there to chill and enjoy the good food and ocean breezes. the burgers are great, and so it the fish fry. read more

This place is totally awesome, I went there yesterday, craving a Cherizo and Egg, breakfast, and OMG, I had the best one in all of San Diego County, it was just what the doctor ordered, it was so great. Also I did not have to beg for coffee, like I have to do at other places, it was like there was a sencor in my cup, it go to be half full and it was full again, awesome. That is what I like. I love this place and whenever I am in Downtown San Diego, I seem to be on a bus and the next thing I know is I am across the street from Claytons and then I am sitted at the counter, greeted with a friendly smile, and asked what can I get you to drink sir. Living in Nado has a lot of perks.....view, weather,great community feeling......and lets not forget Claytons!! I Have been going there for a while now and it is as good as ever. Ordered the Chicken Fried steak and eggs. This steak was a bit small and when itold my waiter (black gentleman...didn't get his name) he fixed it up and made things right. Went there with my wife and visitors from out of town. We first stopped at Cafe 1134, but the others weren't thrilled with the menu selection (or having to order at the counter first before sitting down), so we decided to use Yelp to find an alternative selection. Great Corn Beef Hash and Eggs. The others in my party loved their selections as well. Has that old-time breakfast joint feel to it, and reminds me of the ones I used to go to back East. My wife and I were on vacation in San Diego decided to go to Coronado. After driving around we saw the crowd for this restaurant and decided to give it a try. The decor was throwback diner. After a short wait we were seated at the bar. Our waitress, I'm very sorry I forgot her name was amazing. Funny joked around with us and made great recommendations on food. My wife and I both have allergies to certain foods primarily dairy we expressed our concerns. She reassured us that everything would be great, and it was.
