I don't golf. I don't have any reason to be at a golf course other then for this burger. So that's why I showed up. I saw good reviews so I had to come see what the hype was about. I'd like to consider myself pretty knowledgeable in the subject of smash burgers. I've had quite a few around OC and LA so I was excited to try this one. I've had bacon jam on regular burgers but never on a smash burger so that was new to me. Let's get to the good stuff: burger had fresh ingredients, meat was seasoned well but I do wish the patties were smashed a bit thinner. I also could have gone with a bit less bacon jam as it almost overpowered the burger. I think for me, I like a traditional smash burger: patties smashed thinner than a piece of paper, grilled onions, american cheese and sauce. Oh yeah, gotta be on a martins potato to roll too. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all types of burgers but this one just wasn't in my wheelhouse. Shoutout to the service though. I ride my bike past this spot all the time. I just figured it was another golf course club house. Then I saw a banner hanging from the railing stating "Best Burgers in Long Beach" or something like that. Okay, this I have to try. On a side note, golf course restaurants typically serve some good food. The focus at Crack is on burgers and they do burgers right. Smash burgers to be more precise. We were looking for a place nearby that sold good smash burgers. We looked and found Crack!! The photos of the food looked great so we decided to give it a try. We ordered a dirty and bacon jam burger cut in half so we could try each one. We also ordered the white bean chili and elote potatoe salad. It was all mouth watering. The burgers were juicy. The bacon was spot on between sweetness and saltiness. The white bean chili, which was recommened by the owner was great. The spice flavor was on point. It was great comfort food. The elote potato salad was good. We also tried the macaroni salad and it was good as well. Service was fast and friendly. From the ice cold root beer on tap to the amazingly good burger that didn't really need a side but that white chicken chili was chefs kiss. My husband wanted a burger on the way home from the mall so I went to Yelp to search for a local spot. Lone and behold "Crack" is on the results. We had no idea the restaurant was on the actual golf course. But luckily my husband is an avid golfer so it was fine. As we went in to order it was diner style with inside and outside seating. Laid back and "simple" establishment. Smells wonderful! I could smell the burgers from the 3rd hole. When driving into the parking lot there is a sign stating best bacon jam burger. Hence that was my choice of burger. They are all smash burgers with different toppings. The bacon jam burger was delicious and was very filling and perfect jam to bun to meat ratio. They have different sides dependent on the week or day so they state on the monitor when you come in to ask about the sides available. Very humble and simple service. Had the absolute worst experience here. Incredibly disorganized - waited 45 minutes for a burger while watching people who ordered after us get their food first. Then, after we finally left, someone chased us down in the parking lot claiming we hadn't paid... even though you literally pay when you order. They even came back again demanding proof of payment. The hubby and I were out on a Sunday cruise and I wanted to eat somewhere different than our usual spots. I yelped burgers and CRACK was the first place to pop up. I'm glad there were pictures of this place. I may have driven past it, if not. We were greeted as soon as we walked in by a friendly and helpful guy. It's a pretty laid back place. I don't know what you would call it...the golf clubhouse?? Once we found a place to sit, the same person who greeted us came and took our order. Turns out, he's the owner and a pretty chill guy. We got the Ortega burger (and split it), white bean/chicken chili. The burger was flavorful, not spicy at all. We got a root beer float for dessert...the same size as the side of chili was. After seeing many MANY rave reviews on social media I added this place to my "try" list a while back. My family decided to check it out last week to see what the hype was about. I have one word: underwhelmed. We went in with high hopes. The burger was ok, not bad by any means, but not spectacular or out of this world as people were making it seem. All 4 of us shared the same sentiment. They were steep too, costing $14 each with NO side included. Unfortunately, this burger just wasn't it for us. This is my second time here, and I brought a friend along. The burgers are just as juicy as before, and the special sauce is super unique and addictive. The handmade sides, made with the owner's special touch, are really creative and make the burger even better. The sides change often, so it's always fun to see what's new. We happened to find this hidden gem thanks to Yelp! If you like smash burgers this is the place! The owner was so cool & made you feel like you were sitting in your back yard BBQ! We chose to sit on the patio because there was a lovely breeze and shaded area. We ordered the salad with Smashburger. He gave us a sample of his white bean chili, it was amazing. Topped off by a free mini root beer with vanilla bean ice cream float so delightful! Everything was spectacular, I can't believe there was not a line out the door. When arriving, you don't know where the restaurant is because there are no signs, but there's only one building, so it's a given! Owner Dave greeted me and showed me the menu on the TV screen! The food here is soo good!! Stopped by because we saw what amazing reviews they had. Dave is awesome at his craft and you can tell in his food from his special bacon jam and selection of sides. The owner seems quite congenial if you fit a certain look or maybe if you're a regular. He was very brusque with us coming in for the first time - asked us how we heard about the place but almost sounded suspicious of why we would stop by, so we didn't feel very welcome, but I suppose it could've been a stressful day. Yesterday, my husband, son, and I stopped by Crack for lunch. We ordered the Dirty Burger and the Bacon Jam Burger, along with sides of white bean chicken chili and red cabbage, and were sold after the first bite. Hands down, these are the best burgers we've had in Long Beach! The bacon jam was absolutely delicious. We chose to sit on the patio, which had plenty of space and offered a lovely view of the golf course--a perfect outdoor setting for a Saturday lunch. The service was friendly and welcoming, and even the other customers added to the positive vibe. I'm already looking forward to coming back and trying the Ortega Burger next time.
