The restaurant itself was actually a bit difficult to find along Haight street because there wasn't a massive sign with the name or logo. This is the best Banh Mi I've had in a good while! We popped by here after a visit to the Asian Art Museum and I already knew it would be good from the Vietnamese shouting in the background. It's a to-go type of establishment and they made the food very quickly. They were out of duck so I got the roasted pork, and oh man--it was amazing! I will definitely be stopping by in the future. I will say the jalapeños were a bit strong, so I omitted them. My friends got tofu, one getting the banh mi and the other the noodle bowl. Most of our banh mi places have disappeared or at least haven't opened back up in any form, so we decided to try Dragoneats as we'd walked past it a few times before while in the Hayes Valley area. We ordered the tofu sandwich and the meatball sandwich. There isn't really proper outdoor seating but there's chairs out front which works just fine for a quick lunch. It didn't take long for our sandwiches to be prepared and we dug in. The bread is the perfect texture and crispness for an authentic tasting banh mi. The tofu was coated with teriyaki sauce which made it stand out from other restaurants that serve similar. The veggies had the right mix of sweet and sour, and everything was fresh and delicious! We also ordered a fresh lemonade and while the ice made it difficult to get the paper straw into the lid, that was a minor hiccup. It was a refreshing drink to go with our food. Hands down best bahn mi in the city! After having tried a bunch of Vietnamese places, there isn't once I love more than this. Their teriyaki tofu bahn mi is so juicy and loaded. I usually get it with extra tofu and all this for under $10 including tip. Just doesn't get better than this :) They don't seem to have online order. I used to come here a lot when I lived in Civic Center. It's in Hayes Valley, so I always loved picking up lunch here and eating it outside. It's a really great place & an affordable one too. I was in law school at the time, and spending less than $10 for a meal was a sweet deal especially in such a cute area! I got the teriyaki tofu bahn mi. It was flavor, the tofu was tender and yummy, and I loved all the pickled veggies on top. I also have tried their meat ones, but they kind of pale in comparison to Saigon Sandwich. There is a bar with enough seating for a total of six people; however, they do have an outdoor area without seats. But the food was so good, we can forgive the lack of atmosphere. I've been here several times during the shelter in place order in the past few months. Tastes just like their other location near FiDi, so if you're missing your usual work lunch spot, this place is a great way to relive the not so distant past! I got the roasted pork banh mi, which was super flavorful and stuffed to the brim with meat, julienned carrots, a couple jalapenos, and some cilantro. I did think the bread here is different from their other location in FiDi - it's a bit softer and not as crusty. But, could have been an off day on that front. The pickled carrots were sweet and acidic enough to counter the saltiness of the sandwich. It also can't be a banh mi without pâté and this one had the right amount. I love Duc Hoang sandwiches in Sacramento, but this place beats anything I've had. It's one of those places where I hope people don't catch on or else the place will have lines out the door. This is the dragon eats i go to as it's near my office. Pros: fast, takes credit card, friendly service, free cucumber water, nice atmosphere, nice neighborhood. Probably the cheapest lunch option in the immediate neighborhood. Cons: if you compare it to vietnamese places in sunset, chinatown, tenderloin etc, the banhmi is quite a bit more expensive here ($7.50 here, $4-$5ish elsewhere.) however I would still continue to come back. The fresh bowls and rolls are a good choice if you want a lighter meal. Their marinated tofu is really good and not deep fried unlike other places. Healthy options here. read more

So disappointing! I ordered the garlic chicken spring rolls which contained barely any chicken! At first I thought they'd accidentally forgotten to add the meat, but upon closer inspection I saw that there was a very light smear of chicken. (Did the kitchen run out and just not tell the cashier?!) No chunks of chicken, no meat visible from the outside of the roll (as is typical with the shrimp rolls), just lots of lettuce and some noodles. As a result it was a bland unsatisfying waste of money. I would have returned and brought it to the restaurant's attention but I'd already taken the food to a picnic before opening the box to discover the issue. After working up an appetite strolling around Hayes Valley, we were in the mood for something fast, filling and delicious. I was pleasantly surprised to find a banh mi spot in the area and we decided on trying the sardine banh mi, the tofu banh mi, and the shrimp spring rolls. I'm used to getting a pork banh mi with pâté, but have been venturing outside of my comfort zone in a quest to eat less red meat. The total was about $28 and the portions were very reasonable. We were stuffed! I liked the extra "punchiness" from the sardines and would get it again. The fried tofu was fairly bland on its own (as expected) so the flavors were primarily from the pickled veggies and jalapeño.
