This small diner really surprised me. They used every space to their advantage. There's about 7 booths and 8 counter stools. Super fun. We ordered quickly and our food came up quick. We had normal breakfast items; Belgian waffle, French toast, eggs, and bacon. Everything was delicious. It's not a place to linger. There's a 45 min limit. The food comes out quick and hot so it's a perfect place to eat and get along with your day. Great food. Welcoming service. We'll be back. read more

Wow! What a delightful brunch experience! This ambiance still has all the charm of a 60s diner almost taking you back in time to a by gone era. The owner, Ami, was so welcoming with her bright, beautiful smile and she checked on her guests any time she had a break. What I've always loved about Eddie's is its worn leather booths, big windows to Divisadero, and an eclectic mix of thrift store mugs, with coffee always refilled. Nopa's greasy spoon option in an ocean of trendy, and overpriced hype. I've been a customer at Eddie's for 14 years, but I don't feel good about supporting the business anymore. I feel like a chump when I walk in the door. The food is extremely average, which is what you expect of a greasy spoon diner, but at the price of fine dining. On Saturday my meal was $38 for myself and my six-year-old son. The hot chocolate he ordered was served as half a cup. Adding two very average pancakes, cost $6. The portions are tiny. The staff was extremely agitated, rushing to get people out of their seats as quickly as possible. The servers were watching us closely enough to drop the bill before we finished eating, but never brought water and wondered why I didn't leave a tip. The coffee tastes better than I remember, but everything else feels like the owners are putting the squeeze on customers far beyond the rising cost of ingredients. read more

We had such a great breakfast at Eddie's Cafe! We'd been meaning to come by for over a year, and finally did last weekend! We learned it's under new management, and they're so lovely and attentive. They keep checking on us and even brought water and a pup cup for our dog! The food was also so tasty. The eggs were perfectly fried: crispy, no undercooked egg whites, and a perfect somewhat runny yolk! The salmon croquettes were new to me, and so different and delicious! Definitely a way to shake things up from bacon or sausage. Now the home fries were my absolute favorite! They're a combo between home fries and hash rows. Perfectly seasoned, have onions and peppers added, and have a crispy bottom. The biscuits were homemade, and more like a biscuit and dinner roll hybrid, which I loved because it wasn't as heavy and I have more control over how much butter I consume. I also tried my boyfriend's pancakes and sausage and the pancakes were so fluffy and homemade tasting, and the sausage had these criss cross lines on it that gave it extra crispy bits! Eddie's Cafe is an absolute gem. Honestly, it's one of my favorite breakfast spots in the Bay Area. The food is classic Americana done right; the service is unparalleled in that category. The atmosphere is clean, vintage, and cute. It's got authentic character from years of serving locals. The food is priced very reasonably (quick note: they accept cards, but bring cash if you plan to only get something under $20). The owners (and absolutely LOVELY couple) are kind, organized, and make sure service runs like a well oiled machine. I swear they remember everyone and make sure all feel welcomed. I have long hair - they noticed I was trying to put my hair up before eating but couldn't find the hair tie usually on my wrist. Without me saying a word, one of them came up and offered me new one. You never have to wait long for food or a fresh cup of coffee. The coffee is reliably good & served in a mug. The menu covers everything you want from a breakfast diner and it's all very tasty (I'd say it's a good bit better than other diners I've tried around the bay). I meant to take a picture with my full plate, but the eggs and hash-browns looked too good (so all you get is a picture of my coffee & the sausages I devoured shortly after the photo). If you want iconic American comfort food, or somewhere to just enjoy a regular cup of coffee, you'll be glad Eddie's still exists in this city. If you're a tourist, THIS is where you want to go, not some diner over near Fisherman's Wharf or the Marina. Here's a wish that they'll keep thriving for years to come. read more

We found a little spot while sitting in the city and waiting to wonder where we're going to have breakfast. Eddie's is a cool little café that's right on the corner with outdoor seating and OK parking. We had gotten there right before the rush thank goodness we were seated pretty quickly on the inside and wow it was really super cool inside lots of bobble heads coffee cups and definitely a dedication to the San Francisco Giants. We all ordered something pretty simple our little friend LaLa she decided she was going to have the hamburger my sister ordered the bacon and two eggs with hashbrowns I decided I was going to have the meat over omelette. It was all super yummy got there really quick and it all tasted very very good. Our drinks were very often refilled and there was a friendly person that that kept coming by to make sure that everything was good. It was very fair priced and again super nice little place. When we go back to San Francisco will definitely be visiting Eddie's café for breakfast! read more

They didn't take the time to level the baseboard so our table was slanted and almost lost our plates at times! LOL The staff were attentive and funny. The food is great for a quick breakfast for affordable prices. They do accept cards now, I guess they were cash only before. The hot links were extremely oily but I think that's normal. One of the best Belgian waffles I've had in forever. One of the best I've ever had, really. Perfectly slightly crisp exterior and nice and fluffy inside, with the sweet flavor in every bite. Most waffles flavored ok on the outside but are flavorless throughout. The waffle here is a perfect bite, every bite. I had two over easy eggs and the pork link sausage. Although pretty standard diner fare, they were both tasty and perfectly cooked. Friendly service, seems very much like a family run joint. Interior is old school diner with a counter and some booth/table seating. Obviously has been there a while. I ate here maybe 20 years ago but can't remember much about the visit. Eddies cafe was the only place open before anyone else at 7:30am and there were only a couple of regulars seated at the counter so I figured I might as well try this place I've been passing by for years. Inside there are so many different mugs filling the shelves behind the counter along with one shelf just for baseball bobble head dolls mostly from the giants. The walls are decorated in original San Francisco designs from the summer of love etc. and Motown is playing in the background. The friendly Korean uma who keeps the coffee filled and maybe her husband keep the business running with the help of Hispanic cooks and busser/dishwasher. The coffee was good and the toast crunchy, hash brown were crispy brown and the omelette was more meat than egg. All essential condiments were prepped and sorted on the counter and it felt like a place I could get used to being a regular and looking forward to seeing familiar faces. Feel lucky to have a place like this in the neighborhood although on weekends, it seems to get a bit too crowded for late breakfasts. read more

Great little dinner in town with that small neighborhood feel. We haven't been to a dinner to eat your classic all-American breakfast with hasbrowns, so we decided to try out this place since we avoid chain restaurants. I got the two eggs breakfast, and my SO got an omelet. We were both craving hashbrowns, and the food there got the spot. Nothing was "blow your mind" unusual or spectacular, but everything was cooked as expected and tested fresh and made to order. The prices were decent too for SF prices. Service was friendly and quick. Even as the line got longer, we never felt rushed to order or leave when we were finished eating. The reason I gave the place 4 instead of 5 stars is because of how small it is. We always get lucky with seeing when going out, but we see a few larger groups decoding to leave because the seating is so limited. They should really offer a few more outdoor tables as an option. The place obviously gets good business, and I love it when people support small local places like this, so it's sad to see people leave simply because there just isn't enough seating.
