This is a cozy spot, first time here. Service was good and fast despite going at a busy time (11 am). I tried the sweet dreams French toast cause it looked very alluring on the menu. It's 4 French toast slices topped with Nutella, strawberries, and vanilla ice cream. It was good, I'm satisfied with just that one try cause that was too much sugar for me. For over 28 years, I lived in one of the greatest areas of Los Angeles called the San Fernando Valley a.k.a., the Valley. The One and ONLY! Since moving further south, there are things/places you wish you would have done before. My wife and I were going to pass through, but even before we pass through, we had to stop at one of the most famous restaurants in the valley. It has been seen on television many times and it would be great to stop by and take a bite. We take a drive over to the Hungry Fox in North Hollywood. Located on the northeast corner of Sherman Way and Varna Ave., you will find a green little building. Before, I was used to many different colors of the building. Now, it is GREEN! I remember coming here when I was a child. I don't know why I never continued to visit. This time I brought my love with me. This is a spot where it is both hidden and a local favorite. Yeah, you can enjoy a bigger breakfast chain down the road or you can have a piece of home. Their motto: Happiness You Can Eat. Their parking lot is not quite small, but fits about 10-15 vehicles. You may have to park on the street on those busy days. As we walk up, the building is colored with green. I am definitely not sure if it was because of new ownership or just trying to attract attention. I was trying to find some old photos, but it was all of the GREEN building. You'll open the GREEN door and be taken automatically into the dining area. This was simple and feels very at home. There were a lot of diners and the kitchen was BOOMING! You can sit at the counter area or take a table. A lot of the guests looked like regulars. They were just enjoying a cup of joe or having a laugh at their table. Some of it were politics and some it were just: I haven't seen you in awhile. A lot of the staff refilled drinks and had some conversation as if it were a diner on the side of the road. I Love It! We were greeted by our hostess, Pum. She helped us with our menu as it was a long time since I've been here. Plus, she helped my wife get the better deal. Now, I really feel at home. Someone who watches what your order and suggests the best, I am sold! She took our drink orders. My wife ordered Apple Juice ($3.29) and I ordered some Raspberry Iced Tea ($2.69). The menu is vast with many varieties of options to choose from. They have an All Day Breakfast Menu to lunch/dinner options. My wife wanted to order a la carte, but Pum helped her out and suggested to go a certain menu route. My wife ordered the scrambled eggs, white toast, and veggie bacon ($9.59). I ordered the simple Veggie Wraps ($9.79). The wait was about 10-15 minutes. Time went by fast as we were still looking at how simple the Hungry Fox is. We got our food and it was straightforward simple. Yeah, we took our photos of our food. That's what we do! I can't comment on my wife's food, but I did have some of her scrambled eggs. Nice, fluffy and delicious. I didn't even add ketchup as the eggs had its own flavor. As for mine, my veggie wraps packed a lot of ingredients. It had eggs, spinach, zucchini, tomatoes, many various cheeses, and my favorite, Mushrooms! Mmmm...So Good! I added side of sour cream to my veggie wrap and I had a wonderful breakfast! I have been coming here off and on for over 35 years. If anything, the food is even better. I was here with my family recently, and we all loved it. The waffles are large and tasty. The bacon and sausage were terrific. Our coffee was always topped off. The wait staff were prompt and friendly. The place was packed when we got here, but had less than a five minute wait. I went here last week and there was a hair on my plate and egg shells inside my omelette, they gave me a new one and didn't charge me for the new one or the one with hair and eggshells. The chicken and waffles are phenomenal. The Belgian waffle may be the best I have ever had, it's tall and fluffy, but just crispy enough. The chicken is delicious and really crispy without going overboard on the breading. The chicken sauce, basically a sweet and sour chili garlic sauce, is great on the chicken and the waffles. I'm so glad I did! We got the chicken & waffles, stuffed French toast, and the combo with bacon, egg and home fries. Then another waiter comes and starts cleaning our table when we weren't even done EATING and took my kids plate (which still had food) and threw dirty napkins on top. I can see where these guys get their high ratings! The service here is extra friendly. The prices are ridiculously cheap - especially if you're coming from the westside! I was super hungover when I hit up this spot. We waited about 5 minutes, which seemed a lot longer due to the head pounding. Waiting is expected here as it's always crowded. When I'm hungover, my hunger pains really come and go... we all know how that works out. I ended up ordering a burrito with the chorizo option. I'm not going to lie, I have had way better chorizo, but who am I to judge in that state of mind, right? I actually was able to stomach about half of it and take the other half home. I thought it a bit odd how they served it. It came out like it was 'to go' on a plate. All wrapped up in paper with a little side container of sour cream to go. Did make it easier for me to take the other half home though. First timer today in the AM :) Went with my brother and best friend. So we found ourselves at the Hungry Fox after driving past it for YEARS. We walked in at around 10am and it's pouring like crazy, We were seated rapidly but then asked to move because a larger party who could use the spacious table needed it so we gave up our table and waited 2 minutes for another one. I wasn't bothered by this at all. So we get seated and ordered coffee, OJ, and water, the little one got the 1 pancake, scrambled egg, and sausage patty combo, best friend got the corned beef and hash browns, and I got the egg white only veggie omelet with a side of fruit and we ordered chili cheese fries for the table. The food came out really quickly despite the full house, we were also served a side of whole wheat toast and the home made jam (YUM!) We ate and were taken care of very well. The food and service was good but here is where my rating looses one star. We were all finishing up our plates and were very promptly being watched so that we could get cleared out and sent on our way. Not even halfway through the meal we were served with our check (what if we wanted more?). I understand that there was a line of people but the parties that had arrived were also large (6+) so our small table for 3 really wouldn't have been that useful. I hate feeling rushed to leave a restaurant because they have people waiting, (we actually wanted dessert but oh well) especially with a full cup of coffee still on the table and wanting to relax and talk while it rained outside. Forever my go to brunch place. The staff is very friendly and will always greet/serve you with a smile. The waffles are delicious, very soft and feels like it melts in your mouth. The only reason I'm giving this place a 4 is because it's a tad small so the wait lines can be a little frustrating. read more
