I started off with an order of Roti Canai. When the order arrived, it was nothing special, the sauce and the Roti is something you can get for cheaper at other Malaysian Restaurants like Penang and receive a much better curry sauce to go with it. For my entree I ordered a Beef Rendang which my mother recommended to me since she is Malaysian and knows the better tasting food. I would say that I was really disappointed at what I received. For nearly $20, all I received was a small portion of sauce with rice. On top of that, the Rendang was under seasoned and seemed like something you would get at a fast food service. As a Malaysian, I found this restaurant very disappointing as it doesn't embody any authentic malay flavors and is extremely over priced. I strongly feel like this is a once and never restaurant. If you are looking for delicious Malaysian food, I would strongly recommend other options such as Nyonya in Chinatown or Penang in Queens. read more

We had to request 4 times for basic things like forks and water, the staff was extremely unhelpful, and the icing on the cake was when they served us a meat dish when we specifically and multiple times requested them at the time of placing the order that we were vegetarian and we did not want any meat or seafood. Delicious! I'm not sure if it's cause I arrived with 2 drinks already in my system or if it's cause I hadn't eaten for 9 hours, but I was impressed. At 9:30 on a Saturday night, we were seated immediately, which was good cause we were hungry! Wait service was good but not frequent enough - we had to flag down someone to place our order. We started with drinks - I got the ginger pineapple martini, which was pretty sweet and not strong at all. We got the Chili Tofu for appetizer - very tasty! Not too spicy, which is good because I can't handle that, but enough that it give it a little kick. The bean sprouts were a welcome addition. For my entree I got the Mee SIam pan fried noodles with chicken. So good! The flavor was excellent - whatever spices they used worked. The noodles were tender but not limp and all of the veggies and egg worked well together. I nearly ate it all but luckily saved a little for later - can't wait! The bill was reasonable - $55 before tip. We were in and out within an hour. Would definitely come back - maybe this time before I've had any drinks! read more

So I am glad that yelp now publishes the NYC grade but I am very sad that I didn't check first! A C!! I have eaten here in the past but not in a good while. Thought I'd order take out as i was totally starving. Realized when I got home, I didn't look for the rating-which I always do. Sadly, I looked up the report after getting half way through the meal. I sent a message to Laut Restaurant on Facebook re: something in the restaurant I had an issue with and informed them I did not eat the food I ordered ( a dessert) but gave it to a homeless person. The response from whoever runs their Facebook account, which I was later told was the owner: "You're a fucking liar". Yes that's right, cursed out by the owner of this restaurant for mildly & straightforwardly pointing out something I disagreed with in the restaurant to point where I didn't eat the food. "You're a fucking liar" was the response. No I am not, I actually DID give the food to a homeless person in Whole Foods where I went afterwards. I WILL NEVER EVER EVER EVER EAT OR ORDER FROM THIS TOILET GARBAGE HELL HOLE LOW LIFE PIECE OF GARBAGE RESTAURANT AGAIN!! The experience dining at this restaurant was not only frustrating but demeaning. Our waitress was rarely responsive and rarely even on the floor. After a very long wait time to get the table and another long wait time to then put in orders and then another to receive our food, we were OVERCHARGED BY 40$. When we confronted our waitress about it (which we had to wait about 20 minutes to do) she started mumbling and sternly said "Just sign it." It was incredibly rude and obviously criminal. Lunchtime is a mess. We had a team of 7, and 4 out of 7 arrived on time, we were waiting for the other 3. They wouldn't seat us even though there were about 10 (TEN!) tables free - we had purposely arrived earlier than the lunch rush so we could get seated and order. We said we would order immediately, but a server told us that she wouldn't seat us because then we would spend too long at the table. We eventually said that we'd take a 4-top table and the other 3 could sit on their own. The service from there on was really rude. Our 3 colleagues showed up and there was an empty table next to us, so we asked if it could be added to our table. We were unfailingly polite. The server acted like she had never heard something more inappropriate in her life. Seriously, nothing that had happened was strange for union square sit-down restaurants during lunch. The food is so good that I went a couple weeks later on my own for take-out. I waited 45 minutes, no joke. Tables got their food before me, which is fine, I understand that in-house dining should come first, but also other takeout people got their food before me too. I think that they forgot my order and put it in late. Soooo - not good for groups, not good for takeout. I wish I could go back but it's not going to work out. read more

This review is in regard to the delivery service only. I ordered delivery last night on a Tuesday to an address that they were unfamiliar with. When they called and I explained that I was at the intersection of 16th St and 1st Ave, the restaurant told me they still don't know where this is and it will take over an hour for delivery. They were not lying! My food didn't come for over two hours!! Mind you, I also placed the order around 8 pm...not exactly delivery "rush hour." I understand if I was far away, but it should not be confusing going from 17th and 5th to 16th and 1st. I'm not even from NY and I can figure that one out. Anyway, the food was good when it came. Wouldn't order delivery again due to the situation, but wouldn't be opposed to dining in the restaurant. read more

I heard so much praise about this place before I had a chance to try it. However, it was rather disappointing. For the starters, we ordered butter garlic soft-shell crab and crunchy okra. We asked the waitress how the okra was prepared. We were told that it was sautéed. The dishes arrived a few minutes later. The okra was deep fried. Same as soft-shell crab. Mango salad dressing was flavorful with intense saltines. Nasi Lemah was super salty except for the coconut rice. Everything was either salty or fried. Very disappointing. read more

The vibe in this place is good, however the food is quite expensive, the portion given is very little and priced more expensively, the taste is just so so, the Singapore crab tastes so Americanized, it's plain sweet and sour. I'd not recommend to order that dish. Coconut rice is bit hard to chew. And the Family satay costs $21, with only 11 skewers! This place apparently used to have a Michelin star. The food is great and at a pretty reasonable price. Good for groups, too. The spicy Indonesian market noodles, pad Thai, and roti appetizers are phenomenal. They also make a mean Thai iced tea. Of course, the mango sticky rice is great but the real highlight on the dessert menu is the ice cream waffle. Seriously try it. Also, the staff are pretty attentive. read more

When i was looking at the menu though i found many interesting items including roti, which, me being Indian i told myself ill come back next time and try this!
