Had heard good things about this cookie/bakery so while in NYC we stopped in. It was busy but they moved through the line quickly. What I really liked is that everyone in my party could have a cookie as they have a gluten free and vegan cookie. Also, the person at the counter seemed to care and asked if it was okay to put the cookies in the same bag. I got the dark chocolate cookie at $5.25 and it was a chocolate bomb. I couldn't eat the whole thing in one sitting but that's not a bad thing. It was soft, dense and well just plain good. brand newish Levain Bakery is up and running in the Flatiron District. serving up its menu of cookies, brioche, bread, & other baked eats + and coffee/tea offerings. Levain's following is made up of cookie enthusiasts bc of its rich and decadent cookie variety which read to me less like cookies and more like a cookie/cake hybrid which are great if that's your thing. but yeah come for the cookies but stay for the baguette with butter and jam. the baguette probably is overlooked and under-appreciated but it is so good. freshly baked baguette split in half with generous helping of butter + jam. the bread is so good: a soft and chewy inside with a crunchy outer crust. the filling of smooth buttery fat + evenly sweet jam is how simple combinations stay winning. the drip coffee was good and complemented the baguette but there were coffee grounds at the bottom of the cup which is kinda unpleasant to discover while drinking. however, i notice this happening with more frequency now--i chalk it up to coffee beans being over-ground til the grounds are too fine to be filtered out. sloppy but not unforgivable...i assume this is just a one-time thing not a regular occurrence as Levain wouldn't survive serving meh coffee in nyc. the staff is pleasant and really puts their effort into service. the interior is small and only has a few seats BUT Union Square Park is so close by that you can enjoy some rich calories while sitting outside... its cookies get the accolades, but the breads deserve some applause. read more

5 stars for this new Levain in the neighborhood! The cookies are consistent across all Levain locations and this is no exception. While many places can ger overhyped, Levain always always lives up to the hype. These cookies are a meal and worthy of the ~$6 price - crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside but not too gooey. As an opening special there is a limited time black and white cookie available only at this location and I highly recommend grabbing one while it lasts! The seasonal lemon cookie is also great if you are a fan of lemon; it is perhaps the best lemon cookie that I've ever had. Don't fret if these limited special are not available, as the double chocolate chip is classic and still my favorite. I came on Saturday night (second day open) around 7:30 pm and there was friendly service and no line. read more

What I mean by that is, even though I had been to a zillion bakeries, Levain was the first to specialize on the tantalizing pastry that was the cookie. I had stood on long lines to enter the original location on the UWS, but was thrilled to see that the bakery was expanding across the city and even the country! I heard that a location was opening in the Union Square/Flatiron-area a few days before I would need to be in that region, so I allocated myself a few extra minutes to ensure I was able to stop in for some sweets. The Flatiron location was modern, spacious, and bright, but I spent little time there and was in and out without a wait. I paid just over $10 for two massive cookies - the Two Chip Chocolate Chip with semi-sweet and dark chocolate and the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip with smooth peanut butter chips. I carefully took the surprisingly heavy bag and headed home to enjoy my treasure. The cookies were as heavenly as I remembered. I found the dough on both rather flavorful, but the generous amount of rich chips made each cookie a delight. Levain cookies is a brand new bakery that opened on 18th street. This place is beautiful. As soon as you walk in, the smell is absolutely captivating. Since this is a new location, the lines are a little long but seem to move pretty quick. I assumed they had alot of cookie flavors but thats not the case. They have about 6 or 7 flavors, etc. They do have alot of brownies as well. Most of their items are chocolate heavy so it doesnt feel like theres alot of options. The cookies are huge and feel heavy like a brick. I bought three cookies last week and still have one. I got one chocolate chip, which is a two chip cookie so morsels and chocolate chunks. I got two caramel coconut chocolate chip cookies. I couldnt even eat a quarter of the cookies without taking a break. They are so sweet and heavy on the chocolate. The service in here was great. Everyone was friendly and the line went pretty quickly. I cant wait to revisit and try other items. The brownies they have look really good. The packaging they use for their items are adorable. My friend and I stopped by the new Levain Bakery because she really wanted to try their new black and white chocolate chip cookie (only available in their Flatiron location, apparently, and here for a limited time). The cookie was actually not too sweet, given the base of it is extra dark cocoa with some semi-sweet chocolate chips and white chocolate chunks. If you're craving Levain but want something that isn't *too* sweet, try the B&W cookie while it's still around! Overall, clean interior and the line a couple Sunday afternoon ago was pretty short and we waited less than 5 minutes. read more

I had gone to the first branch in 1997 when it first opened and had their famous chocolate chip cookie. Since then I had not gone to any of the branches because there are so many other bakeries and also because I make a mean chocolate chip cookie at home. Here I got the chocolate chip cookie and the black & White cookie that a friend had recommended. Each cookie was $5.95 which was expensive. The B&W was not to my taste so I tossed it. Waste of money. I went to a couple Levains while I was in town and this one was by far the loudest and rowdiest. When I came in right before the lunch crowd it was empty except for the girls working in the back who blasted music and were lip syncing lol The cookies were delicious, I took some home. Chocolate walnut is a classic but if you don't like chocolate the oatmeal raisin and lemon white chocolate are also to die for. The cookies here are thicc and like $6ish each.
