Review 75/365 Day Challenge review Came here on a Friday afternoon for lunch w my hubs & our babygirl. Celebrating my Birthday/along w our 15th Wedding Anniversary. 07.03.26 Was were seated right away when we got here. What we ordered ~ Lucky Gai is seared crying Tiger w a specialty sauce they have to dip the sliced up steak in. The marination for the meat was really yummy and tasty. ~ Beef Fried Rice tastes like every good thai fried rice should taste like. ~ Kow Mun Gai Duo with both Fried & Poached chicken in Mighty size. Came here specifically for this and boy i just say. It's pretty scrumptious. Definitely recommended. I crave for this thai dish every now and then. It's a thai staple dish to enjoy even everyday. Comes w a small chicken soup broth that's in a cute teacup size. Accompanied by 4 style if dipping sauces to your liking. The chicken Either it's the poached or fried was tender. LOVE LOVE how the dipping sauce for the Kow Mun Gai bottles was labeled which helped tremendously. ~ Thai iced tea tasted a bit off. Like it taste a bit plastic. Their thai tea seems to be in a dispenser behind the counter. I wonder if that had a role into the taste a bit. It's not as bad as where it's not drinkable but definitely leaves somewhat of a plastic taste after each time you Gulp the drink down. I was gonna tell Ryan but the restaurant was a tad bit busy during lunch. Along Ryan went in the back because another associated came and end up assisting with servicing the other guests along close out our tab to pay. Owner Ryan was really Social and awesome at greeting us along checking in occasionally if everything was fine and if we needed anything. He seems to be the only associate tending to all of the guests. Which was pretty good for about 6/7 other tables with a couple or a group dining in. They have a great amount of wooden table set up right outside the restaurant. Their restaurant is a Fox mascot which i thought was pretty cute. You see Foxes around the entire restaurant including in the restroom even Ryan had a cute button up shirt w the fox character on it. Lots of parking right outside the restaurant. They have a lot of daily deals/promos. Including student gets 10% off and Especially on your birthday/1 day b4 or 1 day afterwards, free entree up to $ 16 is free for the Birthday Celebrant. ONLY THING I didn't like with the atmosphere was there were a lot of flies in the restaurant. The entrance door to the restaurant was open and we were one of the tables near the entrance. It even bothered another guests and his kids. With flies flying around inside the restaurant was unpleasant and hard to enjoy your meals dining in because we were busy Choo~ ing the flies away. I even saw it on the kids and their parents face w the fly flying constantly around their table. If i could've deducted a half star on yelp. This would really be my concern and issue w our dining in experience.
The location is a little bit tucked away but definitely worth the find! Just a Mom and Pop shop with the nicest staff. Authentic flavors and great portions. The Thai tea is sweet and strong. Highly recommend if you go during lunch. Lol Pad see ew had great wok hei & fresh ingredients. The wings were crispy and delicious. Looking forward to coming back soon! Chang beer from Thailand is refreshing with the meal. I will have to look for this in the supermarkets!
Took me a while, but I finally found my new go-to Thai spot in oc (plus Hainan chicken!). I ordered the crispy Hainan chicken, edamame, dumplings, and mango sticky rice, everything was super fresh and well-seasoned. The sauces that come with the chicken are a standout (pro tip: mix them all together... you won't regret it). The tamarind sauce was also great on its own. Service was amazing; warm, welcoming, and it honestly felt like eating at someone's home with their family. The location is a little hard to find, but that just makes it feel like a hidden gem
I'm a big fan of this place!! It's located in an odd spot right under the bridge. When you turn into it, you'll be a bit confused, but it's perfect! Quiet location without a lot of foot traffic unless it's restaurant patrons. We always park right in front. There is limited seating and it's best to call for big parties a head of time. The chairs are cute and the interior is captivating; it feels just like home. Whenever I come, I order the Hainan chicken combo. It has the crispy chicken and the poached chicken with a bed of garlic rice or garlic noodles. You can also make your own combinations of sauces right next to that table. To compliment my meal, I usually order their beer or get the lychee martini. It's super cute and refreshing! The workers here are always polite and upbeat. They don't bother you and are very mindful of remind you your needs. Again, I love coming here. Can't wait to make the trip back!
Great location with lots of parking in front. There are plenty of seatings both indoors and outdoors. Good for big group. We came around 9pm and there are plenty of seatings. The service was fast and courteous. We got the yellow curry and the duo kow mun gai. Both were very delicious. The chicken is fried to perfection, not too greasy, but super flavorful. We also got 2 drinks, Thai tea and Lemonade Thai tea, tho they're alright in my opinion.
Coming in atmosphere was good aroma of spices fill the room as i make my order. Server came with water first and greeted me as i order the tom yum soup with rice food came out around 20min but came steamy hot. Restaurant was a little busy around 12. For sure can understand why, food came out great.
An absolute must!!! 100% authentic and 200% delicious. It's owned by a husband and wife, she runs the back of the house as head chef and he runs the front of the house. The wife is originally from Thailand and they seem to visit often, so not only is the food out of this world but he can tell you everything you want to know about it, from the protein that pairs best with a dish to how it differs from similar dishes in Asia. The ambiance is inviting, authentic, and a tad quirky, just like the service, but in the best possible way. They have patio seating also. 8 of us went so we got to try a little bit of almost everything. Every bite of every dish was outstanding. I couldn't stop eating my friend's yellow curry. I'm definitely getting that next time. I got the Foxy Kiss with chicken which was served with rice and a fried egg. Amazing! I honestly can't wait to go back. Our friends are regulars there, and now we will be too.
I did a cookie decorating class next door a few weeks ago with my wife and sister-in-law and I snuck in here to order food before the class started and the food was bomb. I can't remember what I ordered but my sister also ordered dumplings and I got a milk tea and it was so good! The restaurant offered a mini discount for the class next door and they even delivered it to us! Lol I call that excellent customer service. The restaurant itself was clean and nice-they had tables outside or inside to eat!
I feel like every family has their cozy go-to Thai restaurant that they absolutely swear by because it's what they grew up with. For my family, it's Jumpa Thai in Garden Grove, CA. While I love, love, love all the amazing memories we've made there, I recognize that you can have love in your heart for more than one Thai restaurant. I encourage everyone to get out of their comfort zone and continue to explore new spots. You never know -- you might find your new fave!!!! And if not, that's okay because you're still supporting small biz :^) So now onto why I sought out Luck Gai Cafe specifically -- one of my best friends has been complaining about his stomach hurting, and I suggested we get hainan chicken for dinner. It's like when your dog is sick and you have to feed them a "clean" meal like steamed chicken and rice, LMAO..... and naturally, it's what I thought my dawg needed. **Hainan chicken** We got a large poached chicken, and I personally feel like it was portioned for one person instead of two. I think I would order just white meat without chicken skin next time since that's my preference, but my friend really liked the dish and he's been here multiple times. It was my first time at Luck Gai and it made realize that I'm more into Chinese/Vietnamese Hainan chicken. I was bummed that I didn't get pickled cabbage or the usual sauces (chili-ginger sauce and ginger-scallion oil) with my meal. To make things clear: the sauces they offered weren't bad by any means. I was just looking for something different and this is my trivial take. I would probably still order the dish again in the future because the rice and soup were delicious. **Pad Thai** I think it's easier to order bad pad thai than it is to find good. It's just a fact of life. On our end, w ise got lucky with the Luck Gai's pad thai being absolutely scrumptious. The noodles were cooked au dente, sauce ratio was perfect, and shrimps were juicy. What more can you ask for? I would order this dish again, and probably also try other recommended items on their menu such as their pad see ew.
Was curious to try this place since it's very highly rated, but let's see how it compares to other hainan chicken restaurants from the 626... First walking in, it's a very small quaint shop. I was unsure what type of service this restaurant had, there wasn't a "please wait to be seated" sign or anything, so I assume you just order at the cashier and pick it up to your table or something. I was greeted by the cashier and was told I could sit anywhere since there wasn't really anyone in the restaurant. She handed me the menu and then... it was a long period of time whether I was suppose to wait for her to come and I order, or am I supposed to just go up there myself.... So I just went ahead and ordered at the cashier and everything, no big deal. It didn't take too long for my order to be prepared. She actually handed me utensils and my meal to the table, and handed my food as well. So I guess it probably was a sit-down service...? lol I got the mighty combo, which I wanted to try both the poach chicken and the fried chicken. I like how they offered a variety of sauces and listed which tasted better with what. I also liked how they added a small side salad and soup, which is a pretty nice set. Now onto the chicken, the rice was pretty enjoyable, I wish it was softer though. The poached chicken was kinda mid, nothing really too special. It also had cartilage in every piece so not sure if that was normal... The fried chicken tasted better, has more unique textures to eating it, but the batter itself gets boring the more you eat it, or at least it just tastes cheap. I ended up enjoying the fried chicken one more, but honestly for the quality compared to other places I had in the 626, it's not that comparable. It's probably just highly rated around this area, but the meal was just okay. In the end, service was pretty slow. I saw others waiting for their order and they feel like they were just dreading to be there waiting for their food. I ended up just going up to the counter and get my own to-go box and packed it. Service was pretty slow and questionable, but it's only one worker on the floor. They really should have another person helping her if this was a sit down restaurant.
A hole in the wall type place! Their restaurant in tucked in a narrow business plaza near the big street. They have outdoor seating that allows dogs which is really nice. My server was really friendly and was a jokester! I didn't catch his name but he was very friendly. Portions were decent and I liked that they give you a whole tray of sauce per person so you can have as much sauce as you want. The chicken itself was very clean tasting but I wish they had a skin-less option!
I had no expectations of this restaurant when I walked in and I was pleasantly surprised! The chicken dish was pretty good and it is a pretty big portion. The egg rolls were light and crispy! The tom kha was actually very sour (so depends on your preference of how sour you like it! Just to note, it wasn't spicy at all, even though we got level 2. The workers are kind and it's a nice and clean seating area!

Luck Gai had a small line outside even at 1 PM on a Sunday, but it's worth the wait. They offer about 8 tables inside and another 6 outside. Staff is cheerful, and there is one guy with Dad jokes The Khao Soi is excellent. I think I prefer Renu Nakorn's in Norwalk, but their sauces taste the same. Here at Luck Gai the sauce is thicker and coats more into the egg noodles. The first ten bites were superb, although the thicker sauce does feel heavier on the back half of the dish. Hainan chicken (Mighty Poached Chicken) seems to be an authentic preparation, not sure what the Thai variation is, a moist chicken with four different dipping sauces. Pad see ew with vegetables is the most vegetables I have seen, an appropriate strength brown sauce that has fully coated all ingredients. I personally would ask for extra sauce on the next visit, I like things saucy. The last dish. Foxy Kiss Chicken was ordered as mild, but had quite a kick that built over 30 seconds in the mouth. The over easy egg was simple to break and drizzle over the rice, and augmented the texture to be creamy. Overall tasty food, great service. Just wish the location was closer to my house. read more

So I came here with two friends upon one of their recommendations. And now that I've enjoyed the food here, I will also be recommending it to my other friends. And of course, returning myself. I ordered the duo Kow Mun Gai (Light size) because that was supposedly the signature dish here, and it absolutely did not disappoint. I initially wasn't entirely sure about the poached chicken (hence why I ordered the duo), but oml--turned out that was the star all along. Super juicy and flavorful chicken, and the assortment of sauces only further enhanced its taste. Next time, I'll do the Mighty size instead. I'm also a garlic noods fan so I opted for that instead of the rice, and it was good as expected! (You can't go wrong with garlic noods.) Ah, forgot to mention this but the owners were incredibly nice and fun to interact with/talk to, especially the guy! (Sorry I didn't catch his name. ) read more
First time back since the soft opening and yea, it's still great! Their menu expanded quite a bit, but all the core stuff is still there. We got the pad see ew, yellow curry, mighty combo, and house fried rice. The flavors were great and so delicious. The place is small, but there's seating inside and outside. The chicken and rice was great value for the price. While lacking in flavor it was definitely packing the quantity. Chicken was average, and was unsure what to make of the chicken soup. The khao soi was lackluster and not worth trying at all. I will probably not be back unless i am in the area a want a quick lunch of the chicken rice to get me stuff. Food is okay, not bad but not great. Normally I would probably give this place 3 stars, but I found a bone in my chicken. The rice and small soup you get were all really bland. The chicken also was somewhat bland too, but the sauces they offer are all pretty good. This place is so good! Always hits the spot and cures my cravings for Thai food. The service is always immaculate. So far I've tried the: - chicken drunken noodles - steak bites (appetizer) - hainan chicken (half steamed half crispy) Everything was so yummy/amazing. I've been to my fair share of Thai restaurants and this one definitely trumps them all. That says a lot coming from a Thai food connoisseur like myself. The prices are fair, the food is so fresh, and the atmosphere is cute and quaint. A+ on the sauces and flavors, spiciness levels are true to taste, and I'm so glad to have found this spot so close to me! 10/10 recommend. Everyone is so kind here. Omg I just ordered the coconut cake after writing this review, had to come back and let y'all know it's LIFE changing! Came here on a Sunday night for dinner around 6:30. Was able to be seated right away. Shortly after it got packed inside. Tom Kha Shrimp (add noodles)- 3/5: This dish was a big portion. It came with tons of noodles and toppings. It was lacking a bit in flavor for me. Kow Mun Gai (Fried Chicken)- 5/5: This dish was really good. The chicken skin outside was fried perfectly. It was a light crisp and paired well with the sauces. Would recommend this! Thai Iced Coffee- 5/5: Taste like your average coffee. It was good. Coconut drink- 3/5: I prefer coconut drinks with the coconut already peeled. This one tasted bland and the coconut was too hard to be peeled off to eat. Not much juice inside. read more
You know what they say Winner wins. Me and my mom have came back pretty much every month. This small business is a winner. Real authentic food brought to the local market with a good price. This time, i tried the boat noodle soup. Wow, i have NOT tasted something real Asian flavor here. That soup got the real kick, a good mix of spicy, sour, saltiness and a tiny bit numb. First time here! I tried the mighty poached, which is a Hainan chicken. The rice has a lot of flavor along with the soup! The chicken is very light, so with the sauces, it tastes heavenly! This is a great dish if you want something light! The restaurant has a good amount of seats, so it's pretty good to come with a group. Service is super nice and attentive. I've heard so many good things about this place, especially their Thai style Hainan chicken dish aka Kow Mun Gai! And they were right!! 'Kow Mun Gai Combo': best of both worlds, you get to try the poached chicken and fried chicken! The fried chicken ended up being my favorite: the inside was moist and juicy, and the batter was light but crispy!! It also comes with garlic ginger rice, which was really good and aromatic, along with a side of soup and salad. They also give a bunch of sauces which paired well with the poached chicken. Their size options include the light (small) or mighty (large), got the light and it was the perfect portion size! Overall, it was a pretty hearty meal. 'Thai Tea': classic thai tea, not too sweet! Good tea ratio, and wasn't too milky, which I personally like. The inside of the restaurant is small, but cozy and inviting. And I would say everything here seems reasonably priced too. Luck Gai is pretty average and I can't say I agree with all the historical high reviews. The quality and portions have gone downhill- and our last order here is probably the last. Drunken Noodles (tiny portion, yikes!) were nicely cooked but the shrimp was a bit slimy and didn't taste right. Perhaps even a bit undercooked. House fried rice was quite wet which for Asian fried rice was the wrong texture. Lastly, the garlic ginger noodles was flat out gross and tasted like dried squid lol. What's saving this from a lower rating is our past visit for the mixed hainan chicken- both the fried and regular was pretty decent. Hope this place improves but to me there are better Thai spots in Anaheim and Orange. read more

Tucked away on a quiet street is a hidden gem of a Thai restaurant that absolutely blew us away--especially with their Hainan chicken. A friend and I each ordered the Mighty Combo, which comes with both poached and fried Hainan chicken over fragrant rice. The chicken was incredibly juicy and flavorful on its own, but paired with their house-made sauces, it reached a whole new level of delicious. Every bite was satisfying and well-balanced. On top of the amazing food, the customer service was warm, attentive, and welcoming. You can tell they truly care about the experience. Highly recommend this spot if you're craving comfort food with bold Thai flavors. This place deserves way more attention--don't miss it! read more

How have I been missing this gem the last four years?! Really nice space with delicious food. I ate a tofu veggie Penang curry and LOVED it. We shared the fried tofu as an appetizer and even the meat eaters with me raved. Great service too! read more

I'm officially done, I initially gave it a good review because they seemed friendly and the food was palatable and it was close. But my recent orders have been increasingly horrible. Like they don't care anymore....I ordered pad thai and they served me the thick pad see ewe noodles. And to add insult to injury the noodles were placed on a big pile of bean sprouts. I recently ordered the combo hainanese chicken with the fried chicken and got a huge pile of fried dough flakes and the noodles that I subbed for $2 extra were gummy gross egg noodles with no flavor. Food: the food was great, I got a small order of chicken and rice. Perfect for one person, and their sauces are good. Highly recommend this dish. I also got an order of pad see eww, the seasoning was good, not bland and not too salty, there's a little sweetness to it. The portion is actually pretty big and the price is reasonable. Service: great service and very attentive. The order came about 10-15 minutes after I ordered. Ambiance: very small and cozy restaurant. I see a lot of takeout orders more than dine in.
