Came here for dinner with two friends on Sunday and had a good time. Located in Congressional Plaza, Matchbox has lots of seating, both in the bar and main seating area. We got there around 6 PM and there were a good number of people there, but still lots of open seats. We grabbed a booth by the bar and our server quickly brought over menus. We shared the Mini Burgers, which were fairly standard. I appreciated the large pickle slice under the meat. And also loved that the burgers were covered in a generous heap of addicting, but slightly too oily fried onions. Definitely went into fried onion overload. No regrets though...okay, maybe mild regrets. I then had the Apple+Pear Salad. Similar to the burgers, the salad was standard and I enjoyed it, particularly the caramelized pecans. Nothing to go crazy about, but would definitely have it again. Service was friendly and efficient. Our server kept our water refilled and let us linger for many hours. The few parking spaces immediately around the restaurant seem always to be full, but there are plenty in the shopping center it's attached to. Inside, it's quite an interesting multilevel space. The menu at Matchbox has some marked vegetarian options and a gluten-free crust, and they've gotten on board with the vegan meat craze as well (which I'm not really interested in). I ordered a pomegranate blood orange drink, which was strongly flavored from beginning to end; expensive, but a good beverage. The pizza I split was the Fire and Smoke, a spicy pizza with onions and gouda. It's been several years since I last visited a Matchbox, and I did not remember their spicy sauce being all that spicy, but this one had quite a decent kick. It's a very thin crust and if anything I wished there was more of it. A side salad was appropriately crisp. I went here in no small part because of the location. It's prominently in Rockville across from the Metro in an area with a lot of businesses, but this is more of atmospheric place to meet a group than most of the little takeout places around the malls nearby. read more

First time coming here for a work brunch and I loved the layout and decor. Very cute. We were sat upstairs away from everyone which was nice. Our waitress was awesome! I'm going to remember her name and update because she deserves the shout out. We all got the unlimited brunch. You can choose from many different small plates within the unlimited brunch. We all also splurged on mimosas! The regular mimosa is $3 a glass while the speciality mimosas's were over $10 a glass. My tiff with Matchbox is that they were out of almost everything I ordered. I wanted to try the lemon pound cake french toast but they were out. I compromised on the blueberry French toast. I wanted to get a cherry berry splash and they were out of cherries so I compromised and got a lemonade pounder mix drink instead. The food and drinks were still decent! The blueberry French toast did not resemble French toast at all lol but I still enjoyed it none the less. You can't go wrong with blueberries and lemon is my book! Matchbox seems to be a bit over priced when going with a big group of people. I will definitely be back to this location to try out dinner. My review is strictly for the 3-6-9 sliders, as I came specifically here to try those out (had been craving sliders and both Yelp and Google said Matchbox had the best ones around this area) and did pick-up/takeout. First, I parked out front but FYI there is a separate door for pick-up and carry out on the north side of the standalone building. (GrubHub and a few other on-call delivery services are available). Second, even though it was a slow weekday and an off-hour, a staff member was at the front and greeted me pleasantly when I walked in. Third, the bartender was really nice, very cheerful and on his game. Took my order, remembered me and my name when he brought it out. Nice! Fourth, the sliders: I got three sliders (roughly the equivalent of a full-size burger). OMG. Perfection. Soooo good! And the crispy fried onion strings? WOW. The quality of food overall is very good and price reflects that. The pie: Crust - thin - overall neutral flavoring. No unique aspects of note Toppings - double helping of pepperoni (which if you've read my other reviews you'll know isn't a bad thing). Distribution was even, however unfortunate cupping causing build up of grease. Cheese - a good even distribution with no high density in an given area. Good amount as well, though when first opened it did not have that "gooey" texture that is sought after with a fresh pie. Bake - more consistent than competitors thus far, but still slightly weak towards the middle of the pie. Also style of bake will have contributed to the pepperoni cupping and the slight burn. Burn isn't necessarily bad, but much longer and the crust would have surely dried out, the pepperoni would have been marbles, but I would have gotten my thoroughly baked crust. Once again a thoroughly decent pizza that is par for the course in terms of a pepperoni pizza. However, in terms of quality/quantity vs price, this pie doesn't hold up against competitors. read more

Everything was delicious, among my group we went through 2 margherita pizzas, a pepperoni pizza, a white pizza with prosciutto, 6 orders of chicken and waffles (a fried chicken tenderloin on a large quarter of a square waffle with syrup), 6 poached eggs (3 orders, 2 eggs each), arancini, yogurt parfait, multiple avocado toasts (pure fresh avocado, no filler, some fresh tomato garnish and a perfectly poached egg), and more that I know I'm forgetting. We essentially toured most of the offerings haha The one thing I would say is that it takes time for the food to arrive and they are small plates, almost a tapas style brunch. This means you can basically sample everything which is great news for your tastebuds, but bad news for your stomach if you arrive hungry haha So order at least a few plates per person at a time so as they arrive you can kind of slowly keep eating instead of having to eat a bunch at once and then sit and wait for a while. I am part of a group of seniors who enjoy Happy Hour at Matchbox. Tonight eight of us arrived just after 3 pm, but the bar was closed, and the only seating for Happy Hour was in the patio bar (not airconditioned). We asked to be seated inside, but were told that we couldn't get Happy Hour prices there. There was nobody seated inside, so it wasn't a matter of taking seats away from full-price customers. I have ordered thru UberEats many times. The past few times, the orders are missing items or not made to specs. The last time I ordered, I had a full order plus 2 pizzas. I didn't receive either pizza. I called and was told that the expiditer forgot to give the driver the pizza. I was placed on hold for 15 minutes. I hung up and called back. I was given a useless manager who offered no solution. I reached out to them thru the website and the offered a meal the next time I go in. I don't go there, I order.
