It's a 10 minute walk for me to get to this place, but it is completely worth it. The salads here are delicious. You can choose from the pre-designed salads, design your own salad from scratch, or split the difference and request modifications to one of the pre-designed salads. While the salads are a bit pricey, they are also quite large. Moreover, they are made with all fresh, locally sourced ingredients. A selection of sandwiches is also available, but I've actually yet to try them. Given the same people are behind Split Bread, though, I'd wager the sandwiches here are pretty good too. Beware that there is a lunch time rush and the line often stretches out the door at that time. You'll need to allow 10 to 15 minutes to get your salad in this case. The peak time is usually 11:30 AM - 1 PM. Also, you may not want to wait too late to go there (they close at 3pm), as they do run out certain ingredients later in the day. If you become a fan of this place, I recommend that you sign up for the rewards program offered through Thanx: you receive a free salad after buying 10. Yay I finally made it early enough to get the Maui and try the ahi tuna for the first time. And boy was it fan-fresh in your mouth-tastic! Pricey, but very good stuff. I came to this location because I had a coupon from a friend and I was always always curious about what was all the hype about. I will say this right off the bat the place always had a line, but it moves pretty quickly at the busiest time around 12pm I still only waited about 5-8 minutes until I got to the front. I made my own combination of a salad and created a pretty good ranch dressing salad with corn, chicken and a ton of veggies. The staff were very nice and although I still find it hard to pay 10-14 bucks for a salad I enjoyed the fact that the place is very clean and have a very fresh product. Oh I absolutely LOVE it here. I wanted a quick to-go dinner that I could anti-socially eat in my hotel room while catching up on work (and crappy TV, let's be honest), and Mixt was the perfect solution. The menu and build-your-own salad/grain bowl options are wonderful. I ended up going the classic route with a chicken caesar salad, and it was so above and beyond what I expected. Beyond fresh greens and tasty chunks of chicken, it included giant hunks of avocado, radishes, garlic croutons, fresh herbs and a housemade dressing. Really appreciated that the gal making my salad asked if I wanted light/medium/heavy dressing, so when I got the salad it wasn't uncomfortably drenched. I'm really somewhere between a 3 and a 4 on this one. Here's why: Mixt Greens is one of those places you just feel healthier walking into. It is, of course, a place devoted primarily to the custom salad. At lunchtime in Fidi, the line is usually out the door. They do have these beautiful pitchers of water with cucumber for those waiting in line to quench their thirst. I just love it when restaurants do this! But since, i'm no fan of lines, I often come here and turn around when I see the length of the line. But on those days when I do make it, the salads are always fresh. Even more impressive than the food is the staff--always super friendly. Mixt Greens has a really positive atmosphere with fun employees. And I think that's definitely a plus. I usually walk out with a smile. Even though the salads are tasty, I think the cost-value ratio is a bit off at Mixt Greens. If I ended up getting what I really wanted on my salad, it would probably cost $20-$25. So, I just pick a few toppings and spend about $14 or $15 on a salad--which means I never get the salad I really want and still feel like I spent a lot on take out lunch. The ingredients are all fresh, however they definitely skimp a little on the toppings. I've had the Hatch salad off of the summer special menu, which included grilled chicken, avocado, kale, radish, and shaved fennel. I had the cilantro jalapeno vinaigrette instead of the regular dressing, and it added a nice kick to the salad. Like I said, the portion of chicken was definitely too little for the price I paid. I've also designed my own salad with mixed greens, quinoa, chickpeas, roasted red peppers, and cucumbers. Once again, the salad was primarily greens and just a little bit of the toppings I chose. I do like the slice of bread they include. It's a good additional carb, and the texture of the crust is nice and crunchy. The one I've tried that I really like is the Bachelor - it has skirt steak, potatoes, blue cheese and breadcrumbs in addition to the normal salad stuff (aka greens). Boyfriend rocks. Because of my super glam job, I have very few opportunities to leave the office for so much as a breath of fresh air, much less a full lunch. On days like today, I call Boyfriend around 11 and start whining, fussing, and crying about the injustices of being me. I threaten to do things like jump out a window, throw myself into oncoming traffic, or undergo sexual reassignment surgery if someone doesn't get me a damn bowl of soup or salad by 12 noon. Being the most wonderful boyfriend ever, Boyfriend almost always complies. Today's lunch was from Mixt Greens. While it wasn't HORRIBLE in actuality, it was indeed horrible after all the hype I've heard about this place. Boyfriend and I have attempted to brave that city-block-long line snaking out of the joint on numerous occasions, only to give in to our tummy grumblings and waves of dizziness after 3 or 4 minutes in line. Apparently, if you go closer to 1:30 you'll wait only 20 minutes as opposed to the usual 30-40 it appears people are willing to endure. Boyfriend got me a cobb salad and it was alright. My main problem was that my lettuce was largely browning and wilted and some of it was of that tissue-thin, transparent, and watery, mushy consistency that old, rotting greens take on. The toppings were plentiful but the chicken was chewy and all bruised looking. Ew! I did love the generous sprinkling of very crispy, very thick, very UNchewy, UNfatty bacon. Delicious! And the cheese was very good too. They could have been a little less stingy with the avocado considering this is a $10 salad. The cherry tomatoes were perfectly sweet and very ripe. Steep pricing at $10 for a sandwich and a cookie (mmm...cookies), but the ingredients are quite tasty and fresh. Sandwiches are not as creative and adventurous as Boxed Foods, but they're still quite good. I'm a little bummed that they only have a handful (3 or 4) of sandwiches available, but I suppose their real focus is on salads. Try to time your arrival off-peak (12:30 is the worst possible time), but if you do see a huge line don't worry, they have excellent process flow and good line management (yes my enginerd roots are showing). read more
