Outback.... my how you have gone downhill. We have always counted on outback for good food and consistently. My steak was cold, shrimp were hard. We sat at the bar and the bartender just let our plates pile up. I really couldn't believe it! Appetizer plate, both our salad plates he finally picked those up when he gave us our bill. This was my first trip to Outback. We had a gift card and went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon around noon. Denise was our server and was the perfect blend of attentiveness and letting us be. We started with a loaf of warm brown bread and butter which was really good. I had the 9 oz. filet mignon with a salad and steakhouse mac and cheese (made with smoked Gouda). The salad was excellent - romaine, cucumbers, cheese, onions, and grape tomatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly as ordered (medium) and the mac and cheese was on point. My husband had the 13 oz. boneless ribeye with the same sides. His steak was also cooked perfectly. The manager, hearing it was our first visit to Outback, came out to see how our experience was. A bonus is that they have Fosters on tap and ice cold. We frequent a lot of steakhouses and my one complaint is that they often are only open for dinner. I prefer to eat a heavy meal early and Outback offers that. And at a faction of the price. We have easily paid twice as much for the same cut of meat at other restaurants, where sides are usually a la cart. I had a great experience at Outback and will definitely return. It's not swanky, but the food and service are excellent and for me, that's what matters. read more

Terrible service! Seriously the girl had 2 other tables. She kept walking by and didn't even say hi. We waited 15 minutes to be greeted. Brought our meal when we asked for horseradish for the prime rib and another drink refill. Took about another 15 minutes. By the time we got our condiments for our meal. Everything was cold. We love the food at outback .....but this is our 2nd time at this grant Rd Tucson outback. And the horrible service will make it our last. The poor older couple next to us had the same issues she brought them both the wrong salads and never came back to check on them. There is no excuse for unfriendly poor service. I have to say that my two most recent experiences at this location exceeded nearly all of my expectations. The bartender, Joel, was my server both times and he really goes above and beyond to give you a 5 star experience! The two new cocktails on the menu were both tasty and refreshing. The kitchen on the other hand needs to step up their game, my friends has the ribeye which was cooked perfectly, unfortunately my fillet was overcooked twice. Let's go Outback tonight......... Funny how I've never seen that commercial in Tucson yet can't get it out of my head. I love Outback! I'm not a big red meat eater but when I'm in the mood for it I want it cooked just right and don't have the patience for trying new places. Outback is a sure-fire choice. I always know what to expect at Outback. This particular Outback is smaller than the rest that I've been to. The bar area is much smaller and there are fewer dining tables. Regardless, on the night that I went here there were a couple open tables and with the call ahead seating there was no wait. If you were to combine all menus, from all the restaurants, my favorite item would be the awesome blossom. This used to be served at Chili's but is no longer. Something about this dish being the only item that requires a giant onion and them being too economically challenged to carry it. I only know of two restaurants that now carry the infamous awesome blossom: Texas Roadhouse and Outback. I'm sorry to report that this awesome blossom was my main reason for coming here. And, if you are wondering, the awesome blossom is a shadow of what Chili's awesome blossom used to be, but the batter at Outback is far less greasy and the horseradish dipping sauce has more of a kick. Overall, wonderful. This is not a high end steakhouse, so please don't show up in a suit and/or ballgown. Please do show up in both as that would amuse me. The lighting is dim but each table has an extremely bright light hanging low. This somewhat blackens everything in the restaurant aside from your dining partner but the noise bouncing off the walls quickly reminds you that you're not alone. I love how standard their cooking style is. There is no such thing as an "off night." Every piece of meat, on every night, is consistent. It just blows me away. The downfall of course, as there can be no perfection for the prices that they charge, is that the meat is not of terribly good quality. It tastes good, but that's it. No wow factor here. (Although they boast Zagat #1 rated steaks at a chain) Salads, soups, sides are also wonderful here. The menu is similar to that of Fleming's, meat typically does not come with a normal side. Normal sides are an additional 2.95 which I don't mind paying when my entree is only 13.95-16.95. Desserts don't taste homemade but no matter. They're still good. They often have a dessert on special. Let me compare to Chili's again. Chili's has their standard 5 or so desserts, and none of them are good. Outback also has a standard 5 or so dessert menu (in addition to their special dessert), the difference being that each one of Outback's dessert is fabulous. Happy hour is all day long. The waitstaff is top notch. Every time I go I want to tip 50% and leave with second thoughts that I only gave 25. read more

I've never been to an Outback Steakhouse before, and if this place was any indication I won't be going to one ever again. The building is a dark, cramped, and aging piece of stale wood. Ambiance isn't everything, but nothing else in this restaurant offset my first opinion of the place. The service was awkward and slow. After being promptly seated, our server came by to take our drink orders. That was great; however, we didn't see our server again for almost 20 minutes. Where on earth did he go? Our drinks finally arrived, and he wouldn't take our order. He had something else to do, but promised to be right back. Almost 10 minutes passed before I asked for a manager. The manager apologized, and said she would go get our server. A few moments later, or server came, apologized for the wait, and took our order. Another few minutes passed and our server came out to the table. He said the manager had told him we were looking for him, and didn't understand why. (I'm guessing they missed one another the first time around.) I let it go hoping that the food would make up for the poor service, but it didn't. The chicken dish my guest ordered was bland. That's about all that can be said about it. The cheese, mushrooms, peppers, and chicken breast all tasted the exact same, and that taste was tasteless. The steak that I ordered was fatty, tough, and also bland. The fat was the best part, because at least it tasted a little liked something. I will seriously not be back. read more

They have recently begun serving lunch. There may be some winners on their lunch menu... but we did not get any of them. In my last review I talked about choices... I guess that was when they were not open for lunch. They were inflexible about substitutions on this visit. I ended up ordering half of a Filet sandwich on grilled Ciabatta bread. It came with soup or salad and fries. I really wanted a whole sandwich but did not want the fries and asked if I could sub the salad. The server told me the only thing I could do is add a salad to the whole sandwich for $2.99. Maybe she misunderstood, but if she did understand what I wanted, she could have at least asked a manager instead of just telling me it could not be done. The Chopped Bleu Cheese salad had candied pecans, bleu cheese, crunchy strips of something and some sort of slightly sweet dressing. It all worked together and was probably the best thing I had. It was clearly a better choice than the fries, which were soggy and underdone. The Ciabatta bread had a weird flavor to it. The steak was tender and tasty. The melted cheese added nothing to this unimaginative creation. Wife had some sort of grilled chicken sandwich which she said had no flavor. Daughter had the burger, which we knew from past visits was not bad. All came with more of those flaccid fries which really brought down the whole visit. We should have asked if the choices offered on our last visit were still available. We may be back for happy hour and a burger, but I doubt we will be back for lunch. Yes, I know. A chain. But one of the better chains I must admit. We've been going for years and for some reason I finally felt compelled to write a review. This review is for the Grant/Swan location. We have gone twice in the last month and both times we were extremely satisfied. Service has been fast and efficient. The owner Matt, even checked in a couple of times. Husband has been particularly enamored of the new Diablo sauce that they offer for their steaks. Food was well prepared and seasoned correctly. We'll continue to frequent this restaurant. read more

This is only for the food, the service was great. To get the food review out of the way I'm giving Outback Steakhouse 2 stars. We ordered the onion blossom and it had great presentation however it was extremely greasy and salty. I ordered the steak and shrimp meal and when my food arrived the shrimp were over cooked to the point of being dry and were cold laid next to some sad tomatoes. The steak was very fatty and cooked rare when I had requested medium well. I don't enjoy having food returned so I didn't complain because it wasn't the waiters fault. I had high hopes for the restaurant and it just didn't deliver. The waiter and hostess were very helpful and nice so that was a huge plus! read more

Some of the things that went on during our visit to this outback were slightly odd. We had to ask for the free bread that normally comes to our table at other outback chains. When we asked about the bread the server informed us that they have been told not to give it out unless asked. No one had a smile nor acted like they wanted to be there. When we did get our food (which took a long time, but was expected since it was busy) It was slightly cold, not seasoned, and was just lack lustered. Will this prevent us from going to outback again? No but it will keep us from going to this location again though. Would I recommend outback to my friends? Yes, just not this location. read more

I'll start by saying the food was really good. The dressing on the Caesar salad was delicious but they put way too much and I like a lot of dressing. The food was well-prepared tasty and hot. My issue was my boyfriend really likes the bread and it was hard to get refills on it. the music was beyond bad it was some awful techno 90s European garbage it was actually hard to sit there and listen to it. A friend and I came here last night. I'm weird and decided to order their wings... They offer mild, medium or hot. I ordered the hot and quite unexpectedly, they were AWESOME!!! Like how did a chain steakhouse perfect wings? It was really the perfect spice level and just delicious. I had a curbside takeaway the other night. Ordered on the internet...pretty cool. On my way down to pick it up I received a call from the outback. The person told me an item I had ordered had been removed from the menu. I changed the order and thought to myself how cool that was, instead of me pulling up and then being informed of the problem. When we got there the manager came out with a couple of bottled waters and an apology for the mishap. He offered up a free menu item but I'm not one to take freebies if asked. The food was average just what I expected going to the outback. I Would usually never wright a review on a chain restaurant. It's an Outback. (Do I really need to say anything else?) I went with 5 others on a Friday night at 7 (I know, I know, but it wasn't my idea). We were shuffled into the waiting area and were continually offered samples of BBQ chicken, cheese fries, Bloomin' Onion by a server with a tray and a cocktail glass full of singles to suggest tips. Klassy. We waited over an hour for our table and when we were finally seated, we were crammed into a booth, three per side, but not before we walked past at LEAST three other tables that sat 6-8 people, all empty. There was more than one comment re: our wait time vs. empty tables, and the hostess took note and sent the manager over who offered us a free Bloomin' Onion. (Okay, I'm being a total hater, but WTF is the big deal about a fried root vegetable?) The booth was inconvenient as we had a 93 year old man who needed the assistance of a cane and had back issues, and the booth didn't provide enough support for him, but they still wouldn't seat us at the other tables. Whatever. Our server was very attentive and our orders came out promptly and correct. Two people in the party ordered prime rib and their cuts were VERY generous, easily the next size up than what they ordered. I ordered the grilled pork chop with a baked potato and green beans. It was okay. The pork chop wasn't dry, but it was really fatty and didn't have a memorable flavor. The green beans were good, but that's because they were swimming in butter, and the baked potato was great. I was gearing up for a long ride the next day, so it really hit the spot. I ordered the toppings on the side and they came in a cute ramekin with generous amounts of bacon, butter, sour cream, cheese and chives. The service itself was good, but I feel like it's because we were flagged as a "special" table because someone complained. We had twice the attention from service staff as usual, and I'm not complaining, it was just....awkward. I'm just not a fan of cattle-call mediocre food chain restaurants, and that's exactly what this Outback is. Meh. read more

I recognize that a review of a steakhouse from a vegetarian might not be fair but I was with five other people who thoroughly enjoy being carnivores; you might say they contributed to this review. I went in with low expectations, Outback isn't exactly the kind of place that is "vegetarian-friendly" (and why should they be? They have "steakhouse" in the name) but that is where Katemonster's parents wanted to eat, so that's where we went. Even though we'd called ahead, we still had to wait about half an hour to be seated, not surprising as it was a Saturday evening. While seated at the benches outside, a sever came around offering drinks while we waited. He became my new favorite person after informing me that they had O'Dell's 90 Shilling on tap (!!!!). I finished off a 20oz glass just as we were called in for our table. First thing I didn't see upon walking into the dining room was the toddler on the floor by the hostess' stand who promptly caught a size 13 shoe to the face. Apparently, Outback's idea of ambiance is "darker than Siberia in winter time". Katemonster pointed out that the lighting was so dim that it made it impossible to see any of the fat on her steak so she couldn't cut it off. Our server had a very utilitarian approach to food service and wasn't very friendly, but honestly if I had to stumble around in the dark during a Saturday evening rush, I wouldn't be either. House salad with bleu cheese was surprisingly good, a second twenty ouncer of 90 Shilling was also good but the garlic Parmesan pasta with sauteed mushrooms was forgettable. There was quite a bit of meat left on the plates of the hungry carnivores, who reported that the over-hyped steak at Outback is just that, over-hyped. read more

The steak was very good, nice hot temperature and seasoned perfectly. The food came fairly quickly, just enough time for my wife to enjoy her Sangria. Great overall experience! I had never been to Outback, so needless to say, I was excited and expecting a great time. Pros: Nothing tasted horrible, we were semi-full by the end because we ate off each others plates and ordered appetizers as well. Servers/hosts were nice and the food did not take too long to come out. Not a clean place, but not as dirty as some others. Cons: Appetizers: Ordered the Blooming Onion because we knew it was the most popular. I had watched videos of people eating this and it looked amazing and filling. However, once ours came out it was actually laughably tiny and limp. We all looked at each other in disbelief and wondered if we ordered the wrong thing. Despite the hype, the food was unimpressive and the portions were small.To be fair, I'm assuming every location might be different. Overall, I think I'll stay away unless I randomly find myself in the mood to spend too much of my money on subpar food. read more
