This is the best place ever. My first time to SD and not my last. I'll come back just to eat here. prom worthy. a sea of taffeta, sequined cleavage and tuxes came through the door. the hostess asked if we were with the prom group. i wish that i could say my prom was that fab but it probably included more hairspray and blue eyeshadow. the large layout could accomodate big groups or a more romantic setting for two to enjoy the views of the city skyline and the san diego bay. some pacific rim standouts were the jumbo lump crab, avocado and mango stack. be sure to try out some of their inventive rolls. filet mignon prepared any way is delectable but rolled up with some seafood was a fun take on surf and turf. the lamb special was a hearty portion that was well seasoned but not overly impressive. we made the classic rookie mistake of not saving room for the choco lava dessert. so for that night, the views were sweet enough. read more

The restaurant can be quite crowded and the staff is so accommodating to their customers.. everyone hoping for window seating and staff working to please everyone. The food is always delicious! Location, location, location. My husband and I took the ferry from downtown to celebrate our anniversary. Despite our reservation, we had to wait at least an extra half an hour to be seated. Once we were seated, our service was excellent. The view of the city skyline from our table was amazing. Very romantic. Too bad the fake rocks, fake plants, and empty fish tanks were more than bordering on tacky in my opinion. The decor really needs some help. And the music they were playing was seriously horrid. We tried to ignore it, but it was so bad that we kept laughing at the fact a place that charges $30 an entree would allow such cheesy music to represent their restaurant. It seemed most people there were on dates, and we were in a very romantic mood. It is romantic. Although, the lighting is rather dim. (I don't want it bright, but I do like to see my food.) Our server suggested the chicken spring rolls with a delicious plum sauce. It was good, but it did have that deep-fried after taste that you don't usually find in fine dining establishments. The bread was fresh. The wine was okay (not much of a "by the glass" selection). My man ordered the crab stuffed Tilapia, and it was delicious. My crab topped Ono, was not so good. The flavors of the crab and dynamite sauce was delicious, but the Ono was way way way overcooked. It was so dry and tough, it was nearly inedible. I kept thinking of what the judges on Top Chef would have to say about overcooked fish. How could the kitchen let that go out like that? I don't return my food, so I ate it, but I expected more for the price. It was particularly disappointing, because it ruined an otherwise very flavorful dish. From reading the other reviews, it seems I was not the only one whose Ono was overcooked. The highlight was desert. When you place your order, the server will give you a spiel about their trademark "lava cake" and how delicious it is (with it's homemade chocolate cake with melted Belgium chocolate and macadamia ice cream topped with heath bar crumbles) and how if you want one, you better order it now, because it takes a half an hour to prepare! Well, call me a sucker, because we went ahead and tacked it onto our order. Sly move, but it made me wonder if it was just a ploy to get people to order desert before they are stuffed on their meal. In any case, it was delicious and the portion was not too big. Perfect for two to split. Our bill came to $90, and we tipped $20. We had a gift certificate for most of it, otherwise I would have been more disappointed in my overcooked Ono. Overall, it was good, but not great. I couldn't find the quality to match the prices. It made me wonder if they just get by with that amazing view??? I don't know if I will return here again, unless someone gives me another gift certificate, or if I hear that they redecorate, hire a music consultant, and never ever ever send out overcooked fish again. Came here for a birthday and definitely enjoyed our time. They printed the birthday girls name on her menu which was a nice personal touch. Staff were friendly. Atmosphere/decor was A++, fantastic views right on the water. Service was good for the most part, our wine order was forgotten about but quickly rectified. We came for lunch and it was not too pricey. The rating is reflective of the quality of food which was the main thing that let the experience down. Location great. Decor great. Staff good. Five stars because if you want to impress anyone from out of town this is the place to take them. The inside is like they tried to imitate a Hawaiian theme. The view is spectacular. Even if you are a local you can come here and pretend you are on vacation. I've seen celebrities here. Yeah, the prices are a little steep. The food is all good. I like to get the lamb chop because I don't cook lamb at home. I take the leftovers home and hubby and I have another meal out of it, so calculate that into the price. When my girlfriend and I go here for lunch we order a bowl of soup and the pu pu platter, the price is reasonable and the lunch is great. read more

My family and I took the ferry here and had a really nice dinner. We had arrived about an hour and a half early prior to our reservation but kind of got ignored. After I went up to talk to the high school hostesses a couple times, they finally seated us in the half empty restaurant. Eh, not a big deal.. we were just hungry. The ambience and the view is really nice and the fake underwater floral decor is ALMOST bordering on tacky but not quite there. They dim the lights and it's a very romantic and intimate setting. My family isn't very romantic and intimate but we try . The bread was fresh out of the oven, always a good thing. The food was pretty good although some of it tasted like it was premade and just reheated (ahi tuna spring rolls in particular). The crab CAKE (not cakes) was pretty awesome. As for the entrees, my mom's pacific fire shrimp was very tasty - the shrimp was really good and the sauce went really well with the rice, kind of had a Thai-style kick to it. My sister got the crab stuffed tilapia which was delicious and turned out to be our best entree, highly recommend it. Unfortunately, my dad's crab coated ono was terrible. It was really really overcooked to the point that the fish was chewy and dry :( We couldn't even tell that it was coated with crab. My mahi mahi wasn't too bad but was also a tad overcooked. Birthday party for a friend. The best part of the experience was sitting outside for the view. Service was extremely slow, we waited 45 minutes for drinks (mostly wine!). My food was ice cold when it came to the table, everything on the plate was cold. Not lukewarm but cold. I asked the busboy to put his fingers in it to prove how cold it was, he was shocked. I'm giving a mean 1 star for CUSTOMER SERVICE. Very poor on the part of the hostess and the whole management of this restaurant. I booked through open table for 2 people at 11:30am. Got there on time, we waited for a good 5 minutes to be seated. No worries. When the hostess was seating us, she sat us inside the restaurant. I told her that when I booked through opentable, I placed a comment for outdoor seating. She looked in a piece of paper and said " well it does not say that on your reservation". So we asked anyway even it does not show can we seat outside anyway, since there's so much space out in the patio. Next answer of the hostess and she talked on a walkie talkie "I'm moving table blah blah blah to outside patio", whoever answered her responded "the waiter is not here yet, he's late so they can't seat outside". Blow # 2. We didn't want to ruin our good day so we decided just to seat inside. But still curious about the dining situation, I peaked at the patio and saw a waiter taking orders to more or less 8 people ,2-3 tables occupied. So we called the waitress and we asked again, how come we can't sit outside well in fact there's a waiter. Response: "well the waiter is full, he can only take those tables".. Wowwwwww!!! Really??? Non apologetic staff and zero customer service attitude. Where is the manager?? Anyway, this needs to improve, or else they will lose customers. Horrible service!!! read more

I have booked this place for Mothers Day 2012. I went here recently to try it out to make sure it was going to be good enough for dear old mumsies. The food is pretty good, and the ambiance is nice. Kind of a funky layout inside with a loud carpet. I felt like it was 1976 again and I was really high on cocaine. I will only say this, if the wait staff acts anything like what I experienced on my test run, I am going to be really pissed off at this location. I received some bullshit service. This is my story: I came here on a weekday for happy hour. I sat outside. I chilled at my table for about 15 minutes. The waiter cruised in and out, didnt really look around to see me. I ended up moving to a closer table where everyone else was. I didnt want to do this because I had rubbed corn starch all over my thighs to "beat the heat" in Coronado that day. But this is beside the point. Servers/waiters need to look around the area to make sure they are taking care of all tables, I just kind of expect that in a pompous place like this. He took my order and was pretty quick with the drink, cant complain here. (hence 2 stars) I then asked for the bill, he brought it, then went to serve another couple (who was mad dogging me). Then he cleared off a table and went back inside for a little while. I sat there with my credit card for like 10 minutes waiting to pay. By then I was a little pissed so I just walked out. The waiter/server ended up getting no tip, since he forced me to pay in cash, and besides, I dont tip for shitty service. Peohe's if your wait staff does this to me on mothers day, just know its going to be crowded and mumsies and I are just going to take extended bathroom breaks while we sneak out the front door without paying. We had the worst experience we've ever had in a restaurant at Peohe's on July 21, 2012. What happened? First we were kept waiting for a table for about 15 minutes. Finally we were seated and we looked around and saw that the place was half empty. Why the wait? Next we waited for a waiter. Another waiter came by and noticed us and said he would tell our waiter. Finally our waiter showed up. In case management reads this, his name is Marco. We ordered two glasses of wine. Then we waited and waited. After 15 minutes he came back and said the bartender was slammed. Finally we got our wine and ordered our lunch. And we waited and waited. The lunch was lobster bisque and spring rolls. The spring rolls were good. The lobster bisque was below average. When we were finished eating, we were ready to leave but again we waited and waited and waited. Finally Marco came around and we told him we were in a hurry. He brought us the check and left. I looked at the check and found two other entres on it that we didn't ordeer and didn't receive; about $37.00 more than it should have been. I waited for Marco to come by so he could correct it. He didn't and after another 10 minutes I went to the front desk and found a manager. I gave her the check and told her the last two items on it were not part of our order. She went looking for Marco. Then she came back and said "was it the last two items that you said shouldn't be on here?" and I told her yes. She went back again. Finally she came out and said that Marco had put the two meals from the next table on our bill. Inexcuseable! She also had a corrected check for me to sign with the two items removed and the price corrected. I did not leave a tip. I conclude that nobody working here knows what they are doing. I would never return and I suggest to you reading this that you consider what happened to us when you decide if you want to take a chance with this place. read more

Being generous with two stars here. This could easily be some of the worst service I've ever had. Went for an early dinner with the family. We were sat quickly, but waited over 20 minutes to be greeted by the waitstaff. We ordered drinks (sparking water) and my husband ordered wine. It took another 10 minutes to get the waiter and 15 minutes later to be told my husbands wine wasn't chilled and they could do it if he waited another 15 minutes. He changed his order. We continued to be promised bread which finally arrived at the same time as the appetizer (which was an excruciatingly long time). Our beverages sat empty most of our meal. I had the crab stuffed prawns and Bok Choy was a side. The Bok Choy was ice cold and prawns were merely ok. My husbands mashed potatoes were cold. The food was a true disappointment. Now the worst part....the parking has become horrible. It has changed to a pay lot where most individuals can't figure out how to escape. It took us 15 minutes behind three cars. Our personal transaction was fast, but for some reason most people couldn't swipe their card correctly. I almost got out of our car to assist others! Ever see that movie "Casino"? Reminded me of the 80's and I seriously thought Joe Peccie and Robert DeNiro would have been seated around the corner from us. I took my sister out to treat her, and this was not a treat what so ever. The hostess was pleasant and kind. She informed us that since we did not have reservations, we were welcome to sit anywhere that there were not table cloths. Ok, that was ok and we were not really looking for a formal experience anyway. Let me say this though, I only yep when I truly feel it's needed- good or bad. This was bad..... Very bad. We sat for almost 30 minutes while waiters, waitresses, servers and managers walked past our table. No one greeted us, not once. We didn't even get asked if we had been helped. It seemed like they thought we walked in off of skid Rowe or something with holes in our jeans and no showers for a month! But this was not the case at all ! Before arriving there, we were asked if we were attending a wedding, that's how dressed up we were. We were beyond business casual, we were very formal because we weren't sure where we would eat there, but we wanted someplace upscale so we dressed the part. Anyways, after having sat there for about 30 minutes, we got up and left. We didn't order a single thing and took our business elsewhere. That's it. read more

I had contacts in & had to strain to read menu in the dark, way past comfort level & ambience, maybe deal with SDG&E? Had our waiter pass by at 60 mph saying,"be there in 1 minute", to finally return almost 10 min later. No bus boys in site, no water for atleast 20 minutes(hijacked a dif waiter finally to get some),was finally given bread in a basket, with 5 rolls for our party of 6. This marks the first time I have ever left a restaurant before receiving (and eating) my entree. It started early when we waited 55 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. I get it was the day before V-day but plan appropriately since this is an important day for couples to be stress-free and enjoy each other's company. I asked for a manager just prior (my second time going up to check) to being seated and requested that they bring free appetizers to those of us who were waiting so long (which to their credit, they did bring out appetizers to those waiting while we were seated). One foursome was in over an hour. I requested they sit before us. Since there were two of us being taken to a table for two this could not be accommodated. It felt like a Seinfeld episode where they know how to take a reservation but don't understand how to "hooo-lllld" a reservation. Once we sat, we were asked for our drink order and received bread. The bread came sans plates or silverware. I requested silverware and it arrived 30 minutes later. We even put in our order for dinner - but no drinks arrived yet. A full 45 minutes after being seated, we received our drinks - a glass of wine and a mixed drink (sadly, we drank neither of these). Shortly after, we received a pair of soups that were part of our dinner order - a lobster bisque and clam chowder. The bisque was essentially broth. No creamy goodness you would associate with a lobster bisque. The clam chowder was burnt. It had to be scraped from the bottom of the barrel that had been on high heat all day. This was the kicker. Close to two hours from our reservation time and our first real taste of Peohe was terrible. It wasn't worth it at all. The only solace we had was that I shared time with my wife. We asked for the manager, explained our plight, offered to pay for everything received but declined the rest of our meal. The manager said we did not have to worry about the meal. So we obliged and picked up our belongings and left. It was a sad experience. We have been to more than our fair share of Charthouse restaurants. We will not be back to this one. We ate "dinner" at Stone Cold Creamery and had a far more satisfying experience. read more

This is one of my preferred restaurants in Coronado. The fish choices are excellent, and they have so many choices from Halibut to Chilean Sea Bass. My favorite seafood choice is the Swordfish. The fish is always cooked and seasoned perfectly. Also like the Lobster Roll as an appetizer. Good food and reasonable prices, especially considering the stunning views of the San Diego skyline across the bay. For desert try the lava cake. It's totally decadent. They also have prime rib, but it's not that good. If you're not into seafood and are looking for quality steaks, I recommend Stakes Chophouse in Coronado. It's a little more pricey but all their steaks are delicious, and well worth the price. It's perhaps the best steak house in all of San Diego. Certainly better than Ruth Chris in San Diego and a better location too.. Stakes is upscale but casual. I also gave it five stars. read more

I absolutely LOVE Peohe's. I love the tropical atmosphere, the stunning view of San Diego Bay and the downtown skyline, the delicious Mai Tai's and sushi bar and seafood! Everything is always fantastic! I like the surf and turf sushi roll which is a lobster roll with thin slice of steak on top...yummm! Macademia nut crusted halibut with bananas and frangelico is one of my faves. Crab stuffed tilapia...I could go on and on! i like this place for the view of san diego's skyline at night. it's a typical SD tourist stop designed to lure in convention attendees who are out exercising their expense accounts and impressing one-night stands. Peohe's food is OK, but not dramatically better than the gyro shop or burger king next door. The booze is 1 star. i've had better drinks on an airplane. the best bar for drinking on coronado is hotel del downstairs by the beach entrance. they offer strong drinks and parking validation. finally, dress codes are bullshit. this is san diego. And it's kind of ridiculous for a restaurant that is within walking distance of north island. read more

My wife and I made reservations at peohes for Valentine's Day dinner. We arrived just after 5:30 for a 5:45 reservation and weren't seated until about 6pm, which was fine as we could see how busy it was . Although he seemed very busy with other parties, our server Chris was very friendly/attentive, apologized for the delay in getting seated and notified us that the kitchen was taking a bit longer than usual due to the abnormally high volume. He then recommended the featured wine (a delicious red wine from northern ca) to my wife and an excellent local beer for myself. There was a special holiday menu but we chose to order off of the standard dinner menu. Our food came out relatively quickly considering how full the place was and everything was delicious. The sea bass with red wine reduction was certainly a highlight and the filet was cooked perfectly! We will definitely return to this restaurant and recommend it to our friends as well. I have eaten here many times and I wanted to take a friend for a nice Sunday lunch. Arrived on time at 12:30 and was seated. No one near us. The restaurant wasn't busy. We ordered drinks and lunch. People were seated on either side of us. They ordered hot dishes and were served within minutes. We ordered entre salads and sat there watching others have lunch for thirty five minutes. I didn't complain but have thought of it many times since yesterday. I have no idea why we were left to sit while others who had come in after us and ordered far more complicated dishes were served ahead of us. It makes me not want to go back. read more

This is a GREAT spot for lunch on the weekend. We finally ate here for the 1st time today and were very pleasantly surprised. It was right at noon and not too crowded. The inside is nice. The view can't be better. I thought before the place was expensive, but it's not for lunch. Kid had an $8.50 cheeseburger and fries and said it was great. We had lobster spring rolls and the poke bowl. The were both really good. I had thought about trying the calamari - some others ordered it, and it was a huge plate of food. Nothing was over $20 except a lobster roll - not the spring roll. The staff was friendly, although a hostess should always be someone who's cheerful or at least smiles once in awhile. We'll definitely come here again for lunch, and I would recommend this restaurant. I'd say it's just okay to be honest. The location is amazing and the view (especially if you get a good seat) is one of the better views in SD. Unfortunately, this was the only real selling point as the food was pretty sub par. We got some appetizers which were decent, but we got a steak and lobster dish for the entree which were pretty unimpressive especially for the price point. The steak wasn't seasoned much if at all, and was way too cooked on the outside and way too raw in the middle. The quality of the meet (including the lobster) also seemed to be lacking especially for the price point. Overall I'd definitely go there to get a cocktail and some appetizers, but I think there are far better places in little Italy and gaslamp to go to for dinner. The restaurant seemed to be more focused on making money from the quantity of customers instead of the quality of food. This is obviously their decision and totally fine to do, but I was just hoping for something a little better. read more

While most of the menu is uninspiring, I am basing my 4*'s on the prime rib. This is the best prime rib I've had in San Diego. If you ask for it medium-rare, it comes out medium rare and the horseradish sauce it comes with is exquisite. The service is excellent and the view (if you can get it) is great. read more
